I was having a girl's day out with my mom after a stressful day at work and we ventured into the Chanel boutique at Ala Moana albeit reluctantly on my part...I often wrongly associate high end boutiques with snobby workers who watch you like you're a thief if you aren't dressed in couture. That was not the case at this Chanel boutique. Everyone was warm and welcoming. I was dressed down and rather casual in comparison to some of the other shoppers there. No one gave me a snide look whatsoever. We went straight for the cosmetics in search of the new limited edition eye shadow palette and the new mousse-y eye shadow pots. Though they were sold out of one thing, the salesman Gareth was warm, welcoming and knowledgeable. I'd been in this store only once before to purchase my mom's special gardenia fragrance because the boutiques are the only places that carry it. Gareth helped me so much then and his stellar service is still unmatched. On our way out my mom got a glimmer of a new pewter colored, partially patched bag and fell in love. Gareth was right there answering our questions and pulling numerous bags out for us to look at while my mom was deciding if she was going to take the plunge and buy herself a much deserved treat. She finally decided on the purse that initially caught her eye. One of the best parts was that while we were looking, Gareth offered us water and iced coffee and cookies. I know some of you may read this and say "Well, it's Chanel and you're spending money so they better offer you something" but let me tell you, not every high end boutique is so accomidating. Don't get me wrong, I love Louis Vuitton and other similar boutiques but this was the first time we were served a treat to quench our thirst while we shopped for purses. Chanel really ups the quality of service to the highest degree. Add to that the detail in the way they wrap the purse and heck, even the makeup to make you feel really special whether you spend a little or a lot there and it's an A+ experience. Gareth is the NICEST sales person I have ever had the pleasure of dealing with in my life. When I was in there to buy a $20 lipstick, he was just as kind and knowledgeable as he was when my mom dropped some $$ on a lovely handbag. My mom left feeling happy and special and after the hell she's been through the last 2 years with fighting and surviving cancer she deserved the treat. Gareth is an A+ at his job. If I could give 10 stars for his service alone, I would. He could honestly teach customer service to people because whether you buy a little lipstick or an expensive purse, he makes you feel special and happy about your purchase. Cocky and rude elder Japanese and Korean sales people. Giving out hate vibe "why this person ask to see this and that if she not gonna buy". They look like they don't wanna work and very intimidating, uncomfortable vibe. Many times asked manager for someone else. Most recently, I felt so insulted I abruptly left the saleswoman, went to Chanel Waikiki and spent almost 10K. Since then managers are greeting me at AlaMoana. For a store which sells overpriced high end products, you ought to expect top notch customer service. Unfortunately, this store is severely lacking in that regard. I am not unreasonable and understand a busy mall experiences high traffic and don't expect to be acknowledged or served right away. I come in already knowing what I'm going to purchase as I've already looked at the purse I wanted from another location. One associate was helping another man, and two other female associates chatted away near the accessories section. I wait patiently and was standing beside the purse I'd like (instead of walking around and browsing) and was not acknowledged. I assumed the two female associates by the accessories are maybe not responsible for helping near the purses and wait some more. Some other tourists come in about 10 minutes after I've already been standing there, and the same two girls rush to ask them if they needed help. To anyone who needs to get a present from Chanel and wants to save money any way possible than come here. Tax is cheaper then California and some of the prices are actually cheaper then the mainland. We even called a Chanel store in California to compare prices. The wallet the wife got was $100 less. Make sure you understand that before you put on the 1 inch makeup you have. Customer service is horrible; I am young and white (a lot of people see me as military but I'm not) and expect me to be poor, so I am ignored. Japanese are more important then locals. To be completely honest I was a bit nervous walking into this boutique because I didn't know what to expect. Obviously there are horror stories from those who aren't wearing ball gowns to go shopping & I was in no way dressed up, I was nervous about getting good customer service. My husband & I walked into the store & kind of lingered a bit, the sales associates seemed busy so we just took a mini tour of the stores ourselves. After one round around the store, we saw a sales associate was just freeing up. Michael W. immediately asked how he could help us & being a girl on a mission I told him exactly what I wanted & within a minute he brought it out from the back in two sizes. I tried them on for size & quickly decided which look & felt best for me. He also brought out a few other options / colors/ fabrics for me to look at & ofcourse they were all gorgeous! I had heart eyes the whole time. I did not feel rushed to make a decision or pressured to buy anything, he answered any questions I had & was very patient. I finally decided to buy the bag & we were advised to have a seat on the "big couch" in the back with some coffee, water & cookies (yum!) while he prepared the wrapping. I was able to inspect the bag before it was beautifully wrapped up & ready to come home. Overall, I'm so happy that I walked out with the bag of my dreams & that we met Michael. We'll definitely be contacting him for future interests. PSA: this may be common sense but I completely forgot, call your bank to let them know you're making big purchases due to the limits & if you're shopping on the weekend, let them know ahead of time during the week to prevent any delay, It's almost impossible to get ahold of anyone in banking on the weekend. Although I didn't buy anything from this store, I just wanted to write a review for their great customer service. I had been looking for the Chanel CC cream all around Hawaii (and Northern California) and every store I had been to (including department stores that had a Chanel counter) were completely sold out. Michael had been helping my BFs mom look at a number of bags and when I mentioned I had been looking for the CC Cream he called a number of Chanel counters and was able to find a location that had a few bottles left - they had 3 bottles left. (Another SA helped too but I never got her name.) After he got off the phone, he gave me directions to the store and told me the name of the SA who had the bottle for me. Even though my BF's mom didn't buy anything he was very helpful in assisting me in my Chanel CC Cream hunt. So happy that I made a stop at this Chanel store. *One thing though - I did notice a number of SAs checking me from head to toe. I was dressed like a complete slob in a tank, shorts and flip flops. I didn't mind because I'm use to it but if that's something that irks you... maybe you should just stay away from the higher end stores because it basically happened to me in every store I went into. I've been meaning to write a review here since my purchase about 2 months ago, and I was reminded by a lovely thank you card in the mail yesterday sent by the employee that helped me out. So sweet! I was determined to buy a Chanel purse during my trip to Hawaii because of the lower sales tax than here in CA. Today I was shopping in the Chanel Boutique Store at Ala Moana Center. They were very friendly and welcoming. I was so pleased with the knowledge and the level of service that I received while there. I was so lucky to be helped by Gareth. He is such a delight to work with! I came initially to get a limited edition Chanel make-up palette and was so pleased with the service that I ended up getting a new handbag as well. I was so impressed with his knowledge of inventory and the care that I received while there. As a business owner I can tell you that Chanel is very lucky to have Gareth as one of their Sales Associates. While he was ringing me up he served me iced coffee and some shortbread cookies. Rent, food, travel or CHANEL...For my birthday month, I CHOSE CHANEL. I must say that the sales person helping me out (Gareth) was personable and attentive. I didn't feel like I was being watched like a hawk and I definitely felt at ease with his personal approach. For once, I had a PRETTY WOMAN moment and I felt giddy. He brought us beverages and cookies and let us chat and think. Plus, they stored my HUGE Chanel bags so that I could wander around the rest of the mall on my unintended spending spree. Lucky for me, the sale saved me several hundred dollars..of course, it still cost an ARM and a LEG...and some vital organs for my purchase. The very nice touch was the custom, bow-wrapped boxes and little cosmetic, fragrance and skin care samples that were included with my purchase. I can't help it...I have an addiction with designer bags, shoes and sunglasses. That is why I try to stay out of these shops. I had the day off and strolled into the boutique JUST to look at their sunglasses. Well one thing led to another and I started to try on a few pairs. I found a pair that I semi liked and started to do some calculations in my head. As I did this, a lovely sales associate named Anna came by and asked if I would like any assistance. I have to say I LOVE them! they can go dressy or casual. As I tried leaving the store my eyes went to the bag section, I asked Anna about a million more questions and she answered them the best she could. I found 2 purses which I believe are rare in general. He let me take pictures of the purses and send them to my fashion advisor in Brooklyn. Workers at this location were nice, manger was extremely rude. I was here on vacation and since we do not have a Chanel store near us, we decided to stop by. I had a purse that had stitching coming loose. A representative on the phone told me that they can take care of it with a repair or exchange for a new purse. They would just have to take a look at it. When I get there, I spoke with and employee and she was friendly. She needed to get manager approval. The manager told me that she will address the situation with her staff instead of taking care of us with an exchange like her staff said. I wouldn't have cared but the fact the manager would undermine her staff and not take care of the customer is not right. Yoko was absolutely amazing! I wasn't planning on getting a Chanel bag but Yoko provided such an outstanding customer service experience that my husband said YES! I had been shopping for several days because I wanted to get something memorable so I can remember our trip. I've gotten Gucci every time we have been in Hawaii but this time I was looking for something different. I had checked out Louis Vuitton but nothing caught my eye. So I walked inside the store and was greeted with a hello by the doorman. I came in and there was a lot of salespeople but Yoko came up to me with a huge smile on my face and asked if she could help me with anything. They all said yes and she brought out these cute bottled waters for everyone. I probably spent about a hour inside the store and within 15 minutes, she could tell what style of bag I like. She made recommendations on what would suit me best. I told her thank you but I would still like to look around. She was so nice and said to definitely think about it because it is a big purchase and to make sure its something I love. She gave me her card and walked us out, told me to call her if I needed anything else. The next day, I decided to buy the bag and my husband agreed because he really liked Yoko's friendly and helpful attitude. He wanted to wait until Yoko was there so she would get credit for the sale. We came back and she was as friendly as can be. She had us sit in a waiting room where she gave us some delicious cookies and drinks. Sadly, those reviews about judgment on appearance are very apparent in this store... the sales associates seem very clingy towards Asian tourists and tend to ignore locals assuming you don't have money to spend.. regardless that is such a bad and greedy attitude to have! After all, you are in a high end retail industry and should provide unconditional and impeccable service no matter what! While I stood behind another couple looking at some products the sales associate saw me but when she was finished with the couple she walked away and didn't even bother to smile. She went to the back room of some sort. She came out and still did not greet or assist me. Another sales associate finished up with her customer and did the same to me. I would've left but really wanted to see if they had the WOC in stock so I could make the purchase. After literally 20plus mins I was services but a gentlemen who wasn't helping a customer before. I did see him earlier but somehow thought he was the security staff. He showed me the WOC and I decided not to get it bc services SUCKED! I know I may not look like the fancy shamancy rich person (hey I'm on vacation and just landed not too long ago). Normally when you are at a high end store they apologize for the wait but I didn't get any of that. I ended up leaving and ended up at the other Chanel store down the street the following day and purchased two Chanel bags. Ala Moana Chanel stores loss because they were snooty sales people. When I think Hawaii I think pleasant people but Ala Moana's staff ruined that. read more

As much as I l claim to be a tomboy, I can't deny that I love shopping. Somewhere in high school my mom's shopping gene clicked in and my consummate shopping partner D and I began driving up to South Coast to get our fix. By no means do I love the mall, but there's something about a pair of damn cute shoes that just wrecks me. Accordingly I've been to my share of high-end stores and sometimes the service can be, putting it mildly, somewhat lacking. However, at the Chanel store in Ala Moana service is clearly priority #1 and it really makes an impression. D came in to look at the white ceramic J12 watches and as soon as he mentioned what he was looking for, Anna had taken them out of their case and was insisting he try it on. As we were oohing and ahhing over the white ceramic against his newly minted Hawaiian tan, she asked me if I wanted to try on the matching woman's watch. Uh, yes please! Even better, she brings out the diamond bezel watch for me to sample. When I comment on the J12 watch with the pink sapphires that she was wearing, well of course, what happens but she pulls it out of the case and has me try that watch on too. Anna's superlative customer service was so refreshing and genuine that it almost pushed me past the tipping point. Even though we were on the last day of our trip and had spent so much already, I couldn't help but do the math and try to justify buying the watch. No such luck this time, but best believe that before my next trip to Hawaii I'm putting away money just for Chanel. read more

Ok, this was my first time entering a "HIGH CLASS" boutique EVER. The first time I entered CHANEL was about 3 months ago to " just look around" I was greeted by GARETH. He was very helpful showed my husband and I the new spring pre-collection. I fell in love with the vintage leather. They only order 3 on island and it was the last black design. I was unsure if i wanted to purchase it due to high cost in price (5k). Gareth offered to hold it for us for a few days. My husband was very pleased with his service and surprised me and purchased it that day. I thought ok, he'll wrap it up and send us on our merry way, happy to have sold an expensive bag. That was not the case, he offered us drinks and cookies while he wrapped it up for us. so, i thought well of course he is going to serve us since we just spent a large amount of money. We waited for about 15 minutes, at the mean time my daughter was enjoying herself with the juice and cookies. Gareth wrapped my bag up and gave us samples of perfumes and skin products. He then gave my daughter a small CHANEL shopping bag full of cookies. This was my first luxury bag and I dont think I would go to any other after having chanel. We returned to CHANEL yesterday to look at other wallets that would be appealing to my handbag... Luckily Gareth was working. He remembered us from the first time and along with what we purchased. WOW!! He showed me a few wallets and offered beverages and cookies once again. My husband joke with him saying, " even if we dont buy anything today," Gareth said, " of course come by anytime if you happen to be in the mall". Now I know that Gareth is all for "CUSTOMER SERVICE" !!! and I have been served by others after my first experience and it does not compare. We ended up buying a wallet which was 1/5 the price of my bag and still got the excellent service. I will definitely return to CHANEL as long I am assisted by GARETH KAI =) read more
