It has sentimental value , so i decided to reupholster all 6 chairs. Pono couldn't match the fabric but searched and found something that was very close. He came and repaired all six chairs at a very reasonable price. We had a little bit of communication difficulty in the beginning, but that was speedily resolved. I am so glad that he took the job as others refused to come to our house to pick up the chairs....we would have had to drop them off at their repair shop. The chairs came out beautifully and I am happy with the job, well done.

Unfortunately, the company it was purchased from was no longer in business. I didn't know who to call so I decided to check Yelp by inputting "futon sofa frame repair" and clicked on get estimates. To my surprise I got 5 responses all saying that my frame was repairable which made me quite happy. All had different suggestions based on the pictures I posted in my request. I selected The Leather Doctor Hawai'i because not only could he fix the frame but he could also fix our dining room chairs. He even had connection for getting the backing of our sofa cover and pillows replaced. I definitely made the right choice. A couple days later Pono came to the house to look at the "damage". He said it was definitely repairable. He would glue the original piece together, add a bracket behind it AND put in another "leg" for added support matching the color to the original as much as he could. Looking at our dining chairs he said just the webbing needed replacement as the set was also over 20 years old. The covers were fine. I was very pleased with his honesty as my husband and I thought we needed new cushions, etc. He left saying Thea, his assistant, would be sending me an estimate. The estimate came a few hours later. The best thing about all of this was that we didn't need to scramble to try to rent a truck to bring the items to him as neither we nor our friends own one. Everything would be completed on site. That was definitely a PLUS! Once I agreed to his estimate, Thea called for scheduling. Pono arrived promptly. Very courteous, friendly and respectful. He explained each step he worked. I was impressed that he notched the wood so that the board could easily rest in. It was centered and the tops of both boards matched. It looked like it was meant to be there. While the leg paint dried, Pono worked on our cushions. Again explanations were given as he replaced the webbings. The chairs now are comfortable to sit on and we no longer feel like we're "sinking." My family and I couldn't be happier with the results of his 5 hours of work. When the work was completed Pono cleaned after himself and took our sofa and pillow covers for repairing. Thank you, Pono. You are a gem!!!

Oncour is under the Dooney & Bourke umbrella, and you can kind of tell from the style, but something about the Oncour bags seem a little cleaner in terms of style. Their bags are both canvas and leather, and let me tell you, the leather they use must have just come off the animal because the scent incredibly strong. I live in a small studio apartment and the whole thing smells like leather even though I got a canvas bag. Like Dooney, the bags are designed and crafted in the USA, but they import materials from Europe. The tag inside tells you the body construction (in my case it's vachetta leather and cabriolet fabric), the origin, style, and edition number and they give you a matching card with the same info. The only thing about the bag is that it does not have feet. The salesperson said it's for a cleaner look, but since I decided on the canvas bag, it's more likely to pick up dust an other particles. I'll just have to be careful.

I've been a loyal customer of Windward Shoe Repair & Small Engine for several years, regularly…read morebringing in my McLaine reel mower for service. Unfortunately, my most recent experience was so unprofessional and concerning that customers should be weary. I brought my mower in for a straightforward clutch belt and throttle cable replacement -- routine work that does not involve any mechanical engine repair. The mower was running perfectly beforehand and still looks nearly new. From the beginning, communication between the owners, Mindy (front office) and Bill (repairs), was disorganized. After dropping off the mower, Mindy called to say I needed to return to pay a deposit and obtain a claim ticket, even though Bill had already issued a "temporary" non valid one, unbeknownst to me. Further, pricing is not posted anywhere, and the shop does not provide written estimates or itemized invoices -- only a texted credit card receipt showing the total amount paid. When I picked up the mower, Bill stated he replaced the throttle cable without removing the fuel tank, which is highly unusual given the tight access. I also noticed freshly mowed strip of grass along their driveway and wet clippings dried onto my mower, despite the fact that I never mow wet grass and always clean the mower before storing it. Upon arriving home, the mower would not start/run at all -- despite running flawlessly before the repair. I called Mindy immediately and was told to bring it back. When I returned, Bill abruptly vociferously refused service, said he was "tired of working on my mower," told me to take it to a shop in Waipahu, and walked away! I had never accused him of anything; I simply reported that the mower no longer started after being in his shop, and that something appears to be amiss. This situation is concerning because Hawaiʻi law recognizes an implied warranty of workmanship: when a shop accepts equipment for repair, the work must be performed with reasonable care, and the equipment must be returned in at least the same working condition unless the customer is informed otherwise. No such warning was given, and the failure occurred immediately while in their possession for non mechanical parts replacement. This was not the first issue. A couple of years ago, after a carburetor rebuild and throttle lever adjustment, I asked Bill to replace the air filter. Upon mowing, the air filter cover vibrated off. One of the clips had been broken during service and reattached without disclosure. I had to return to pick up a used replacement. Amost a year later, the throttle cable came loose again, though I had no receipt to reference. Honesty and professionalism matter. If something breaks during service, disclose it and fix it. In my case, the mower arrived running perfectly and was returned unable to start/run. Instead of addressing the issue, the Bill loses his temper, refused service, and walked away from once a loyal customer seeking resolution. A final note: according to the DCCA Hawaiʻi website, the business license listed under "Windward Shoe Repair" expired in 2014 and does not reflect the current operating name "Windward Shoe Repair & Small Engine" which is not listed or registered. Based upon my recent experience, as well as an expired license alone should give consumers a pause, therefore I cannot recommend this business!!! Caveat emptor!!!!

My main complaint is that their downtown location doesn't have that much selection so if you are looking for slides you are out of luck. So I highly suggest calling ahead of time to see if they have the product that you want is available. Ended up going to their Hilton location to get what I am looking for. My second complaint is that their locations are not really local friendly. Two of their locations are in Waikiki and this location in downtown has limited street parking that is usually taken. I told the lady running the shop at the time (a bigger girl with blonde hair) that I'm looking for 8-inch boot heels. She said that they only have one style for the 8 inches and that she will have to refuse service if I'm only coming to try on heels. She points to a sign that says that they refuse shoe fittings and are only reserved for serious buyers. "Sorry that's her rules" We told her that I'm looking for shoes.... is showing interest not enough? Yeah, I guess I'm not serious for driving all the way there to see styles for a little gift to myself. How am I gonna decide on a purchase without trying? If I like how it looks, I can buy it. Who are you to determine I'm not serious about purchasing? If I'm not serious, I wouldn't have wasted my time coming to you in the first place. I didn't argue because I didn't want to waste my time on them AGAIN (they usually tell me La Beau's might have what I'm looking for). I left and went to La Beau's Boutique to try on styles of 8 inch heels that interested me and even other styles that weren't 8-inch because I have an open mind and am a SERIOUS buyer. I bought what I was looking for that same day. I now bought from La Beau's Boutique twice right after leaving Leather Lace & Lollipops shop because they could not provide the service I needed. Leather Lace and Lollipops does not want you as their client, find another place that actually tries lol. Go to La Beau's Boutique!! Update 12/23: I just thought I'd mention that I went to see if other people also experienced this disrespect and crass service. There is a review from someone that had this same situation saying she was interested in purchasing an item and after trying it on determined that she didn't want the item. She was then kicked out of the store and accused of using the store as a shoe fitting service. The owner Trina replies saying that "people like you" damage her business and said that the girl that posted the review never intended to purchase... when the girl said she was interested in purchasing.... News flash, she WAS intending and interested in purchasing and NEWS FLASH people are allowed to not want it after trying it on because if it didn't look pretty or feel nice or whatever then they are not obligated to buy it. This business is rude and even faced with criticism, they are rude.
