I get intimidated walking into high end luxury stores because I feel like associates tend to pre-judge you. Here I felt very welcome. Tomoko was very friendly and helped me find the gift I was looking for! I was doing some last minute Christmas shopping for my husband. I noticed he was looking online at the Illusion petite H ties. So I went to the Ala Moana store to see if they had it on hand. Unfortunately the did not and Tomoko offered to order it at have it delivered to my home. When I found it wouldn't get here before Christmas, she helped me choose something similar. I told her that my husband loved blue, so she pulled ties with similar designs and close to the same shade to the one I was looking for. She was very attentive and listened to what I was saying. She even told me about the craftsmanship of how each tie is made. When packaging the tie she noticed a very small imperfection that I had missed and went to get another one. Thank you Tomoko! Because of his excellent service instead of just buying one pair of shoes, i bought a 2nd pair of shoes and a bag!!!!! I thought it will be pricier than my other high-end stuff like LV, or Chanel... actually, they're just of same range. But the excellent customer made a big difference! This review is overdue for Hako. She was so sweet, welcoming, and patient. It was my first time visiting this location with the goal of making a connection with an SA. I originally planned to visit the Beach Walk location, but their lines were ridiculous. I knew I wanted to visit both locations, so I stopped in on a Saturday evening. I had specific items I knew I was interested in buying and was hoping they were available. I was in luck, Hako helped me find them! She even showed me some earrings I did not have on my list before, but they were so cool that they are now on my list! She mentioned there was just a FedEx delivery earlier that day, so to my luck, some freshly stocked items were available. During check out, Hako was so kind to my son. Went to the store yesterday and purchased two items. Aya Hara, the sales specialist, left me with her card after I asked her contact information. I texted her afterwards on the same day to see if we could develop long term relationship and told her what I'm looking for in the long run. I also mentioned what are the other items I'm interesting in getting in order to see if it's possible for me to get what I wanted to get in the long run. No response. I called her and tried to leave a voice mail, but I think she blocked me for whatever reason because the number went straight to voicemail every time I give her a call. Weird. Left a voicemail at the store today to see if she's interested in helping me. If not, I voiced that I could work with another sales specialist. An SA greeted me at the door and asked if I had an appointment to see any specific SA to which I replied no, but I know what I want to purchase. She then assisted me and she was wonderful. Her name was Makiko and she was very helpful and super patient. She recommended what she thought I would like and she was right. It's Hawaii. It's hot as hell sometimes. So you know what? Most of my time as a resident here when I'm not at the office is a t-shirt, board shorts, and slippers. That's just Hawaii. I think the staff here needs to understand this aspect of Hawaii culture, where it's too dang hot to be dressed to the nines all the time. We're not in NYC or Tokyo. I say this to say that the pre-judgement you get when you walk in here is off the radar when they think you don't have money based on the way you're dressed. I went in looking for accessories. First stop was a new tie. Hermès ties start at over $200. Apparently that's not enough, as my sales associate's demeanor was cold as though I was wasting her time. She only mildly perked up when I told her I'd also take some $450 cuff links. My fiancée was possibly interested in some new shoes, but was turned off by the SA's attitude so opted not to get any. When I went to pay the SA pretty obviously scrutinized my Amex Platinum card as though it couldn't have been mine. It made the whole thing even more awkward. The sad thing is I'm one of the easiest customers on the planet. 9/10 times I already know what I want and just want to make a simple transaction and not waste anyone's time. The only thing I ask is for basic courtesy when I'm going to be spending nearly $1,000 or more on goods I don't absolutely need. read more

I was invited to a Men's and Women's Shoe Event by one of the Floor Directors, Joy. I've shopped for something small in the past, but she knows that I love shoes and I had something in mind for awhile. When I saw the email I Rsvp'd (what a crazy coincidence that I had one of the event mornings off... is it really!?! Lol). When I got there I was greeted by the guard.... and no one else after that. Sad face. The shoe area was crowded that morning with international visitors and other customers. I walked a bit, picked up a few sandals, saw a few associates walk past me, and a few minutes passed. No other person greeted me, made eye contact, no acknowledgement of me being there. I finally had to walk to the front to one of the girls who passed me earlier to ask for Joy. Uhm, okay, again, I don't have time to spare to just window shop and be ignored or wait for you to ask if I need help. If i did wait, I don't think I would've gotten any help... being honest. When Joy came out she thanked me for coming and showed me what the event was about. She showed me the shoes I had inquired about in the past, bringing out two different colors for me to see. I chose one, although both were nice. She took me around the shop and showed me a few card cases knowing that was something I was in the market for. Joy showed me a few other accessories, to which I chose my second item. I loved that she took her time and wrapped them nicely (I know it's what they do and its protocol, but she didn't rush me or the presentation). She also enclosed her favorite fragrance that she uses and a box of macarons! What a nice touch! I'm not a big spender. I'm not gonna buy $20K bag, but Joy made me feel that my small in comparison purchase was valuable to her. I felt good about my purchases and I'm looking forward to wearing/ using them! 5-Star for Joy and the products. Location and cleanliness of store is also great. 3-Star due to the other staff members who didn't give time of day for acknowledging a person in their vicinity. We stopped here on a sunday in search of some wallets, and there was a line outside the door to even get inside. I waited about 10 min and was greeted by a sales rep and told her I wanted a wallet. She showed me some super nice alligator skin wallets and that was just not my style. I really like simple and understated styles, and not flashy ones. I told her I'm really just looking for a simple brown, or black wallet. She very reluctantly pulled out a drawer with some very simple wallets which is exactly what I wanted. She then says to me "these are the cheap kinds, I'd suggest the ones I showed you earlier" First of all I would hardly call a wallet that's $1500 a cheap kind. Second, I already told you I don't like them. After I told her I didn't like it, she basically lost all interest in "helping" me and spent most of her time checking her phone. Well... I guess I'll give my business to someone who will actually care about what I want. Like many other reviewers mentioned, you are definitely judged by how you dress, which is a detestable attitude for a sales agent. Didn't anyone told you not the judge a book by its cover? Ala Moana is by far my favorite boutique on island. I've frequented both locations and everything at this location surpasses the Waikiki location. Parking-abundant Location-convenient Staff-knowledgeable, kind, helpful Inventory- hit or miss. Seems Waikiki gets some desired items more frequently. This boutique is by far my favorite location for a number of reasons. One, convenience. I don't have to get dizzy driving up the garage and circling like a vulture for parking. Nor do I have to pay for parking when I'm spending a ridiculous amount already on merchandise. Boutique itself is well laid out and spacious. Not having to climb three flights of stairs to navigate the facility. Staff...I cannot rave enough about the staff. From the doorman/security to whatever SA answers the phone, everyone is pleasant. In the Waikiki location, I've been greeted by abrasive, short fused, condescending individuals on more than one occasion. Now my SA, she's really what puts the icing on this cake. Makiko is so sweet and so kind. She has never been pushy or coerced me into buying a thing. Makiko has helped me pick out gifts for friends and loved ones. She always calls me when an item I'm looking for arrives and even sends me emails when something she thinks I may be interested in is available. Even with all the issues with inventory shortages with COVID and policy changes on entrance to the boutique, she's always more than accommodating. I never have an issue getting a last minute appointment. If you're looking for an SA in Honolulu, I highly recommend Makiko Witt. She's my absolute favorite. You won't be disappointed. read more

Best to make an appointment before you go there. Otherwise, you won't get to see much of the merchandise there. I've done the walk-in first, had random sales which weren't helpful at all, and the answers were short and got the feeling as "I don't think you will buy, why don't you just go as quick as possible so I can see my next customer." However, since I stayed in Sheraton Waikiki, which is right next door to the store, it was more convenient for me to go to this store than the other one in the Ala Moana Mall. My 2nd visit was after my friend recommended Jenny, who was very helpful, I got a nice winter coat and a pair of leather slippers, and Jenny took down my wish list. Above and Beyond - I went in looking for their pop-up book (which they did not carry in-store at this location) and got their leathercare balm and oil - it's an odd purchase I imagine for their average customer but I have always been a fan of Hermes for their tack and I wanted to get something bougie for my saddle. Anthony was so kind, attentive and helpful having found the items and then presenting them in a gift box for me. To be honest, I was prepared not to given that I wasn't spending a large sum of money or looked the part. I don't frequent luxury goods stores. I have worked in a national luxury brand retail store as a manager & buyer for 10 years, so when I go to a specialty store, I expect excellent service. I had been wanting to purchase a H belt. Classic leather with the silver buckle. I had been thinking about this particular item for a while. When I got a very unexpected Christmas bonus, I knew that I would treat myself to this belt on my next trip to Hawaii (cheaper sales tax than CA). I was so excited to make my purchase! I was dressed sharply as I was planning a full day of shopping at my favorite shops with lunch at Neiman Marcus. Hermes was to be my first stop. I walked into the Ala Moana Hermes store and was totally ignored . I was seen by the staff, but no one came over or waved in acknowledgement. I waited by the belts for a good 10 minutes. I finally flagged down a sales associate and asked if I could try the belt. She didn't say two words, but hurried to the back and returned with a box that contained the belt and buckle. I felt so uncomfortable that I quickly tried on the belt and instead of trying on a few more options, I said I would take the belt. I wanted to just leave the store. Even the transaction was cold and not personable. I want to feel welcome where I spend my money and feel good about my purchase. Sadly, this Hermes store doesn't provide the same level of service to locals or tourists from the mainland that they do for other tourists. I will never step foot in this store again. I hope the store manager takes this review to heart and trains his staff to provide superior service equally to all that walk into the store. read more

I have to agree with all of the reviews regarding the way this store treats locals, versus how they treat tourists. I went in to check out a pair of shoes I'd been eyeing. The associate who helped me was cold, and unenthusiastic, and she kept mentioning the prices of items to me without me asking. I was dressed well in a pair of expensive shoes and an expensive dress. Tasteful, not flashy. I had just left work. A tourist couple walk in and all of the associates were so happy to help them. It was like night and day compared to how I'd been treated. Meanwhile, the tourists were in dirty worn out cotton shirts and super outdated jeans that looked circa 2001. I could not understand this at all and left. read more

If you can't find what you are looking for at the Hermès store in Waikiki on Kalakaua Avenue, try here, this store is bigger. We were able to find what were looking for, in the color and style we wanted, with Molly's help. The parking at Ala Moana Center is terrible, so I would recommend using Google Maps to find the most adjacent lot. At this writing, even though COVID rules have been relaxed, both Hermès still restrict the number of customers inside, and provide mandatory sanitizer when you step in. Note to all non-Hawaii citizens, those stylish Hermès shopping bags are not free, they are state-mandated USD $0.15. read more

My daughter purchased me a pair of Oran sandals for Christmas. I was never interested in this brand and knew a little of this luxury line... Well I went into the Ala Moana store to exchange the sandals that she had purchased as they were a little to big. My husband sat on their couch and my youngest daughter and I browsed at the sandals. Waiting to get help no one offered... so we walked around the store to see what else this store had and multiple sales associates just ignored us as they were just standing around ignoring our presence in their store. Not one employee although not busy acknowledged our presence just standing around waiting for the next tourist to walk in. My husband literally had to get up off the couch and ask someone to assist me. The one sales associate he approached said "I'm busy with a customer" watching that customer browse at profits from afar. The security guard at the door had to find some to assist me after my husband approached him and told him "what no one wants to help us in here?!" When I explained to the sales associate Eunice that came to assist me and the situation and how I needed a smaller size, she was skeptical of mex but she went to look and brought several pairs out in different colors. What offended me is that I was not able to view the oran sandals in a pair and had to tell her "which color" I wanted to see only lifting the lid of the box off as if I was going to runaway with the pair of sandals! I also was not able to try them on as a pair and was quite offended and that is when I had enough and spoke up to the associate Eunice stating how rude she was! After I told her how I felt she changed her demeanor and allowed me to look at the sandals in a pair and even sat them nicely on the carpet for me to try on?! This is very bad customer service, which no one who walks into that store should be mistreated or even judged!! I must admit I may not be interested in purchasing enough items to make my name on that Birkin list (I'm also not interested in a Birkin), but please be mindful and treat individuals with much more respect. What's even more disappointing is that they need to remember that the locals live here and will come back to purchase more items should they be interested in investing in the brand. The tourist, yes they may purchase a big amount at one time, but that's just it once! This store needs to educate their associates on taking care of their local customers too and providing much more compassionate customer service instead of judging and individual and how much money they may be able to make in one sale! My husband was trying to convince me to purchased another pair and although I liked it I adamantly refused telling him after the way I have been treated with much disrespect, I refuse to purchase another item from this location! read more
