Service at this Sunnyvale location is hit or miss depending on the staff member you seek for help. Yes, you must usually seek assistance. Be careful of the "techs" working on computer builds, they may insult you as their tolerance is the lowest. They will ask you what research did you do before coming to the store rather than what your goal is. Just what you needed... a confrontation. One person will be helpful... out of four or five. Honestly, thank you for being that person that finally helped me after multiple visits. In my experience, the signs aside the products I was interested in, behind the glass, don't match the motherboard product. wrong price, wrong name make it hard to shop. On one visit, after purchasing a new processor and new motherboard the customer service representative allowed me to depart without RAM for the new system that I purchased. It's that kind of service and attention to detail that keeps me coming back. ;-) I also question the quality of the some of unbranded products that they sell. One of two PCI risers inexplicably stopped working in less then 60 days. It was installed and then rarely if ever touched or rebooted. I compare this to the much less expensive 6-pack of PCI risers purchased from Amazon; which are working great without experiencing any untimely failures. read more

Always down to support local businesses. Came with my brother on Black Friday becuase he wanted to build a new computer. I am not too familiar with computer parts, but they seemed to have a decent selection of good parts. Obviously not the selection that a place like Fry's used to have, but I take quality over quantity any day of the week. Was greeted as soon as we walked in by a few friendly faces. My brother did all the talking and I browsed. Out of all the things they had in the shop, there was a rubber roll up piano that I got a kick out of! They also have a small handful of other cool gadgets in the shop, but I didn't buy anything. If you're looking for good parts, I would for sure check these guys out! read more

Hello Central Computers Team, I wanted to see if someone from your team can make it right for me. I visited your Sunnyvale store on March 11, 2021 in hopes to purchase a graphics card, the store had a Zotac RTX 3080 available. Since your stores are only able to sell these cards as bundled, which I was okay with, I ended up spending around $2700. Your team was very helpful with my questions from start to finish and the manager even offered to help carry the items to my vehicle. My build is for work and pleasure. I was very excited to build my computer after a few years on relying on my laptop. However within two weeks of purchase, I found the graphics card to have a defective fan, the fan would rattle each time it starts. At first I was thinking it wasn't too bad, but if you listen to it throughout the day while working, the noise will start to get irritating.  I called your Sunnyvale location and they said they normally would exchange it but since they do not have anything in stock, they could help me RMA it. Over the weekend, I brought my graphics card to your Santa Clara location to be tested. They also saw a defective fan. The manager there said they normally would exchange it (if there's a stock) or give me a full refund, or RMA which will make the computer useless for the next month and a half if I send it in to the manufacturer. Today April 7, 2021, your Sunnyvale location have a similar item EVGA RTX 3080 (different brand). When I stopped by the store and spoke to the manager, he barely looked at my video which shows there's a rattle. He refused to accept an exchange because he said it's a different brand and that the item you have available is only bundled for system builds. Last time I checked, that is what I paid for in your store. He said my only option is send it back to the manufacturer for repair. This is very disappointing because this is the same person who offered to carry the items to my car when I spent a couple thousand dollars. But when I bring back an item that if defective, he refuses to help me out. He even says go to the other store, which I'm sure he knows they do not have a 3080 available. Your policy on your website is below: "30-Day Defective Exchange Policy: If an item is defective, we will exchange it for the same item within 30 days. If the item is out of stock, we reserve the right to replace it with an item comparable value, or wait for the original item to be delivered to us".  I need someone's help to make this right. I am not asking much but is only asking to exchange an item that is well within the timeframe and within your return policy for defective items. All I am asking is for your team to honor the policy that you have in placed as a company. Could someone reach out to me with better news? The good, the store has so much stuff to build or fix a PC it is convenient and nice. The bad, I paid 130+ dollars for my PC built. No OS install and brought my own CPU ryzen 7 5800x and GPU rx 6900xt and the rest supplied by them. The cable management was horrendous. For $130+ I expected a lot better. They did work fast. December 23rd to the 31st was the build time. But not worth it. The person who was handing off the pc to me had a piece of paper that said charge for the nzxt fan controller and everything else was paid for. But instead he asked me if cpu was supplied by them or me. I repeatedly told him i brought it and the GPU I brought. They have never had the 5800x in stock. He tried to ring it up after telling him I brought it. I don't understand that part. Stores cluttered but that's good and bad because they have almost everything you could want. 2 stars because the guy that originally helped me was really nice. And knew what he was doing. read more

In a world without Fry's, your best bet for off-brand electronics and computer parts. But be warned: I find the products have a higher than usual failure rate, and if something is deeply discounted, it might be a sign that others have experienced the same problem with the same product. Caveat emptor. That said, I feel better shopping here than rolling the dice on Amazon's sea of unpronounceable off-brand electronics--where you might have the same problem, but then adding to environmental impact of shipping things back and forth. read more

I brought in my laptop 12 days ago for a minor repair covered by warranty. The technicians let me know that this would take no more than a week and that they would be in touch. I didn't hear back for a week, so I returned after 7 days to check up. It took them 20 minutes to find my computer, they had seemingly misplaced it. I asked for an update and they said another week. This is my primary device and the store refused to provide a loaner. I had the option of going to the manager at the Santa Clara location to discuss my issue. This made me feel incredibly disrespected as a client. A few days later, I received a call saying it would take an extra 3-4 weeks! I could have fixed this myself had I know this from the getgo, but because of the mismanagement/deceptive timeline I was given my computer is stuck for at least another 14 days! I don't live in the Bay and this is a huge hassle for me. I can't even get my computer back as is! I understand that things go wrong, but there was 0 compassion and no attempt to fix the mistake from the people working in the store. A loaner computer or even an apology would have been nice. TLDR: I will be missing my computer for over a month because of a blown fuse. Don't trust these guys and the time frame they give you. If something goes wrong, they don't have the customer's best interest in mind. read more

Went to get my laptop checked up to see why my fan keep making loud periodic noises. The technician patiently opened the laptop case (it was really tight), and inspected the cause of the noise. At the end, it was the faulty fan. But since it was not a common brand they do not have parts available to replace it. So he puts it back together and told me there is no charge since they couldn't fix my issue. Even though he spend a good 20-30 mins with me. That's how you get return customers! Will definitely come back in the future if I have any more tech related issues! read more

i have not been at this place in many years so i was delighted it is still around. most amazing today was the friendliness of the place. i had a technical question and ended up with Adam K as my consultant. he was super friendly and we talked at least for 20min about my slow PC problem and went over a bunch of possibilities. I really appreciated his competency and friendliness in giving my a bunch of advise i could try on my own but if i failed i always could bring the PC and for a good diagnostics. So high 5 for Adam, no doubt. basically the full opposite of the regular car sales person. after our chat i walked through the store and fond it well sorted and organized. many little things like all kinds of cables. really a great store and beats amazon in the personality experience 1000 times. read more

Bought a $3,700+ pc here in April 2021 and they completely botched the build. The fans were put in the wrong way and the GPU was powered improperly. The storage drives were also installed incorrectly. Apparently, the person building my pc was new. This is all very basic build knowledge and could have easily been looked up on YouTube. Not sure why they would have an inexperienced employee build a super expensive PC. 2 stars because they fixed it after having to bring it into the store two separate times to address the issues but who knows if there are more issues with the pc that'll arise in the future. I'm sure buying the parts is fine but steer clear from the PC building service. read more

This place is awesome! They have a shockingly good selection for the size of the store and actually have GPUs available if you bundle it with a full system. I've bought multiple systems for myself, work, and with friends here and have worked with many of the very helpful staff, Jaskaran has been my favorite and is very knowledgeable. He's been awesome to buy things from and his suggestions have been fantastic. Along with actually having GPU's they have name-brand cases (something that fry's never did), frequently run sales, have lots of the cables and peripherals you'll need along with lots of Raspberry Pi and 3d printing accessories. Another underrated thing they stock is a very good selection of Unifi products, something which has come in handy during supply shortages. Extra bonus points for having a great location and being close to Happy Lemon :) I've never seen someone wear a mask improperly there and have always felt safe. Stopped by the Sunnyvale store as they were the only ones with the NZXT fans and light strips that I needed to go with the Z63 pump. The staff there took their time to assist and helped me make sure I got everything needed. They were patient with me on my lack of knowledge and gave suggestions and tips as well. I bought from Central Computers online and I was really satisfied with the order! I bought a pc case (Black Fractal Design Define 7 with a clear tempered glass) and shipping was really quick because it was shipped the same day I ordered it and I even ordered it during the late afternoon (around 4pm)! It arrived in two days and in perfect condition. It was easy to set up and as for the case, the case is amazing and really has some sound-dampening material so it was quieter and there was a lot of room to add case fans as you can see in the picture! Cases with sound-dampening material usually make the case hotter but that is not the case (no pun intended) for the Fractal Design Define 7. I had a Phanteks Eclipse P300A before I got this new one for reference and my new case was definitely a lot quieter despite more fans and it was also a lot cooler (in temperature AND looks). If you want to build a computer, then buy the parts here because they will help you if anything goes wrong. I couldn't figure out a display problem with my new build. Since I purchased the CPU and motherboard here, their service center diagnosed and fixed the problem all for free. Plus, they also installed the CPU and flashed the bios as part of their service. Indeed, some other retail stores may have slightly better prices, but it's just not worth the headache if something goes wrong. read more

Stopped by last night to check out their new Sunnyvale location after their El Camino Real location burned down, and to look for a specific adapter and cable. The store is small and crammed with merchandise. Some aisles were unpassable due to carts or crates with product just sitting there. It is a potential fire code and ADA violation. The parking lot of the strip mall they are in are very narrow and people drive very fast. Some asshole almost hit me as I was trying to back out of a parking space. Needless to say, I left empty-handed as I did not find what I was looking for. read more

Central Computer in Sunnyvale is THE place to go if you want to either buy or get a computer serviced--or get guidance and advice for building your own custom PC. It's the opposite of big box stores, it's the computer hardware equivalent of the local/family store. I wish we had more places like this. The staff is not only knowledgeable but also passionate about all kinds of computer HW--especially gaming PCs, graphics cards, and DIY systems. Everybody in the store is very nice, friendly and helpful, but a special mention for Austin who helped me choose and install a beefier power supply in record time so I could get back to work ... ok, back to my racing simulator :-) ... it's the weekend.
