I brought in my MacBook 2022 with a broken screen (lines vertical/horizontal). He had initially fixed it and it was great for a week and I was satisfied with my service for $520. About two weeks later, lines started appearing on the middle of my screen for no apparent reason. Along with this, I noticed a huge white sticker trying to be ripped off on the bottom of my laptop (I originally ignored this because I was just happy my screen was fixed). I have reached out to him several times to work with me on fixing my screen and correctly replacing it. He has told me I would have to order a new screen on my own, and that he cannot do it. Overall, I felt scammed out of my money and extremely disappointed. Especially as a college student- this was not cheap but I wish I had just took my money elsewhere for the proper fix as I'm still stuck with a broken screen and -500 dollars. ! read more

Data recovery Very efficient and I was one of the lucky ones. My external hdd hard drive seagate model: SRD0SD0 I had a clicking sound to my hard drive and it wouldn't power on and show up on my laptop. I've tried multiple cords and thought it might've been a power cord issue but those options never worked. Clicking sound normally is a bad thing and it's a malfunction in the hard drive itself. I had no choice but to get my data recovered and so I came across SmartTech. My experience was very positive. They provided me a detailed description of what they' will do and how long it'll take. It did take them a few weeks to recover my data, but I managed to get 100% data back with no issues. I also provided 2 brand new hdd hard drives to use as a primary and a back up just in case this happens again. Depending on the amount of data, it can take a long time. I asked to contact them once a week to see how things are going. I never called them more than that because they need sufficient amount of time to diagnose and extract the data from the hard drive. I learned that I need to be patient in all this being that it was my first time experiencing this process. I was very comfortable and confident that SmartTech was going to accomplish and succeed my needs in recovery my data. I am very pleased with their service and their quote was fair compared to places like Kotar data, which would charge you up to 1k or more to recover data. I wouldn't recommend Kotar. The proprietor, Art...He's a computer Ninja. He did excellent work, kept me updated on his progress and delivered exactly as promised and in the end the price was very reasonable. In fact when he worked up the estimate he gave me a price range and the actual cost was on the very low end of that estimate, a pleasant surprise. Oh, and the estimate was free :) The computer Art worked on for us is a 2017 iMac, the kind with the glued on screen. For those in the know, this is a tricky job, the screen is actually glued on. I really didn't want to pay a fortune at Apple but I couldn't get any small business repair shops to take the job until I found SmartTech. Art explained the difficulty of this particular job and it suddenly became clear why no one was returning my calls about this job. We took the computer to Art to upgrade the RAM but when all was said and done we also had our 500gb disk drive replaced by a TB SSD drive. He also took the time to examine our file system and OS condition. He discovered a couple of errors and took care of all of the data transfer and iOS reinstall and upgrade at no charge. I think we all know that great feeling when you find an auto mechanic that we feel we can trust, as opposed to the dread of being afraid you're going to get someone who's not good or even a rip off artist. Nightmare of a week. My laptop fell off the coffee table and would not start. AND a couple days later my external hard drive suddenly stopped working. My home server went dead after a power interruption and I did not have an UPS. I found out that the 2 TB drive was dead and this is the cause for the server to stop working. There are data stored in the drive and I may need them later. I bought a drive reader from Fry's but the reader failed to recover the dead drive. I googled and found SmartTech. I went to Geek Squad looking to transfer my music from my Ipod or old Macbook Pro to a new Macbook Pro. They wanted 3-5 days to do this and could not guarantee they could do it, could not provide an estimate and recommended I buy a year subscription. The owner of this company, Art is very professional and extremely knowledgeable about computers, hard drives, etc. I accidently dropped my laptop and damaged the hard-drive.
