Beer here is great and reasonably priced ($5/pint). The service is usually nice and quick. Extra parking lot is available next door. Board games and ping pint tables are available. It was a little touch and go last year in 2019 about whether Celis would stay open, but I'm happy they managed to figure out how to keep the doors open as this is our favorite brewery in Austin. Hubby and I are big fans of wheat beers and Celis does not disappoint. A not so secret combo is the White Lightning which is a combination of Celis White and their Grand Cru. Try it! As for me, I'm a big fan of the Lime Berliner Weisse. I like sour beers and this one is subtley sour and not bitter at all. I would say it is the best beer for people who don't like beer in general. The first time I ever drank beer at a brewery was at Celis back in the 90s. Now that it is back in ATX I had to go see what I have been missing for nearly 20 years. The new location isn't as big as the original but it is a very nice location with a sawed off copper tank split in two as the bar and wooden high chairs and tables all within a limestone room. It actually reminded me of The Copper Tank from way back when... Anyway. It was great to finally drink their Celis White as well as their Pale Bock. Both beers were fresh, crisp to the tongue and cool to the body on a hot summer day. Supposed to be Austin's original craft brewery from way back then. It had been closed down years ago, but was just reopened this Summer. The place is very well situated, and has a decent amount of parking space available for its own. The taproom, which is the only area readily available, is very welcoming and nicely laid out. The bar has a very unique look to it with a huge copper kettle hanging above it. However, I can't imagine how crowded this place might get as time goes by. Any amount past 80 would seem chaotic in there. But, they do have plans of expanding even further, adding a museum and a sour beer development area. If you're in town, this place is worth visiting. I haven't said much about the beer in the previous paragraphs, but let me assure you that they're good. I personally had the Pale Bock and the White Ale, and they were bith great in their own right. Ok I'd give this place a solid 5 stars easily because it's a really unique and comfortable atmosphere, plus the woman who served us was very friendly. The beers were delicious, too! But a star gets lost, maybe not a whole one--like 1/5 of the star, because of the price. ----- The price of a pint? $5, can't argue with that! That's a great deal! But if you want a flight with 4 pours? $10. $10?! My friend and I really felt like we got ripped off a bit... especially since there aren't prices posted anywhere (at least not on the menus/signage around me). Holy crabby bartender alert. Wow. Stopped by with some co workers for some brews and one of our group came up and started to put in an order and when he exceeded 4 drinks and tried to order #5, he stuck his hand up and chastised us saying "only 4 per person". Look i get it, if they have rules about quantity just say so, you ain't gotta bite our heads off. That was a total turn off for me because when we went back up it was service with a hassle all over again. I wanted to ask questions about the brews but this guy has negative customer service skills. I like microbrews and I especially like microbrews that are located not far from where I live. I've been to Celis Brewery pre-COVID for a beer and cheese tasting and tour, which was fun. And most recently, I was doing an Elite perk pickup in their parking lot (from a different vendor) and decided to do a curbside pickup of two six packs (Celis White and Celis Grand Cru) while I was there. The quality of the Celis beers is very strong - they clearly know what they are doing and I like the European style that heavily influences their product. The online ordering was pretty straightforward, although it is only same day and next day ordering, so you can't plan too far ahead. Upon arrival, you just call and the brewmaster will bring your purchase to your vehicle, either putting it on your hood or placing it in your trunk. The process was very straightforward and I was happy to support this local brewery in a safe way. I hope they continue to do well and survive the pandemic as the brewery space itself is very nice with a nice selection of microbrews to sip on too, of course! read more

We had a great experience here when we stopped in on a Friday afternoon. Had the pleasure of talking to T. and Fish who informed us of the rich history of this brewery and the Celis family. I really enjoyed the Grapefruit Maximus and Juicy East Coast IPA. Everyone there was happy and having a great time. Ample seating indoors, some outdoors but unfortunately limited shade outside. Where do I start!? Celis Brewery is impressive! Their lead brewer is a woman!?? 99% of their staff are women. In a male-dominated industry, that's impressive! They have exceptional customer service! I've just jumped on board the beer bandwagon a year or so ago. I've tried many beers since. Living in Austin, there's quite a selection! Celis Belgian Style Witbier is undoubtedly my new favorite beer!! It's refreshing and a bit creamy. It has a hint of spice and a citrus finish. It's not overwhelming with wheat or malt flavors - it's Very balanced! I also tried their new beer Celis Lo Low. It's a low-calorie beer with only 99 calories! Pretty good beer for a west coast IPA snob here. I loved the ambiance, the service, and they allowed our dog in during the pandemic. Everyone is masked up, washing hands, etc. We went on a Friday night and it wasn't too packed. Since I'm socially inept I spent way too long looking at the obstructed chalk board for their beer selection when there was a convenient print out on the bar. Came here for a friend's birthday and it was a pretty windy day so didn't get a chance to see if they have much of an outdoor area or nkt. The inside was nice, lots of seating and tv all around...it was as busy as the other breweries so the noise level.was on the low side too. They have a great raspberry flavored beer and I ended up getting a blend of their raspberry and they grand cru beer, tasted like a shady so that's a win in my book. My friends got the tasting flight and they seemed to enjoy the ones they got. Overall it is a chill place to hang out and drink beer. read more

A modern twist on an old Austin original! For years now, Christine Celis along w/ her daughter Daytona, have been trying to revive the family-namesake that was started by Christine's father/ craft beer pioneer Pierre Celis in 1990's Austin. She's finally made it happen with her new brewery; located north amidst other prominent Austin breweries like Adelberts, Circle, Oskar Blues, Austin Beerworks just to name a few. In fact, this stretch of Metric should be renamed "Brewery Row" there's so many of them concentrated in this area. While some OG Austinites may or may not know much about the other breweries here, they should all know Celis & as they flock over to see the revival of their beloved brand hopefully that'll benefit the surrounding breweries in the crusade for craft beer dominance! One of the most noticeable things about the new Celis Brewery is the bar, which was made from one of the original copper Celis mash tuns. It's presence reminds me of a "rotunda" & it's really cool that she's repurposing stuff from the old brewery into the new space. You see similar treatments throughout the brewpub, including a head-bust statue of her beloved father as she pays homage to the man who started it all here in the Austin beer scene. The brewery itself uses none of the old equipment (from what I saw), instead they're using modern, stainless mash tuns & other equipment that are more in-line with today's brewing standards. As far as their beers go, they currently have 4: The original Celis White & Amber Bock, as well as 2 new brews: east coast & west cost IPA's. I really enjoyed the east coast's heavy citrus notes while I found the west coast to be piney & bitter. They also have 5 Uncle Billy's beers on tap; which makes perfect sense. Both Christine & Daytona have deep ties to Uncle Billy's having been brewmasters & collaborators with them over the years. Celis now serves as "contract brewers" for UB, meaning that their most common beers that you see at Spec's, HEB, etc will be coming out of Celis from here on out. On my recent trip, I mainly focused on Celis & not Uncle Billy's so much because I've been going there for years & was familiar with their stuff. BUT, I think it's a great move to put both Celis & Uncle Billy's under one roof like this. As I mentioned earlier, as Celis attracts the older Austinites who were here during the days of the OG Celis might see something new with Uncle Billy's & like the mecca of breweries surrounding them, it'll be good business all around! Initially I was gonna give them a 4 because aside from Celis White, my mind wasn't blown away with the other Celis beers. However, I change this review because as a brewery that holds a special place in the hearts of so many native Austinites, Christine's vision to revive her father's brewery couldn't have come at a better time with so many local breweries gaining national recognition & winning awards at such coveted festivals as the GABF. Christine & Daytona are in this to win & after my recent visit I'm convinced that Celis will be here to stay! For reals this time!! read more

Had a great time here on Saturday! The place has a great atmosphere and a really cool look and vibe. The Belgian style beers are delicious. We tried all four of them on tap and enjoyed them all. The bar itself is shaped like a giant copper brew kettle and the building looks like a building from the old country, really cool. There is seating around the bar and there are also tables around the large room. There are small tables too, in case you want a little privacy. The bartenders were really cool and friendly and very knowledgeable about their beers. There was a food truck outside, for when the munchies hit and you need something to go with that delicious beer. They have an area where you can buy some glassware and shirts and other things to show off your Celis pride. Really nice place, will definitely be coming back. read more

Celis Brewery has been rebirthed and is located at 10001 Metric Blvd. Their beautiful tasting room opened it's doors yesterday. Walking in transports you to another place. Unlike any other tasting room I have been in, this reflects a Belgium style with Texas pride. Celis is a labor of love and a family run business. Celis was born in Belgium where the original owner, Pierre Celis, rebirthed Belgium's witbier style after the last wheat beer brewery closed in 1955. When his Belgium brewery was bought by Stella Artois, he relocated to Austin to bring his mastery brewing skills to the area. In 1992, he opened the first craft brewery in Austin. Once again Pierre was bought out, this time by Miller. Pierre's daughter, Christine fought for years to get rights to her father's brewery name and finally won in February. She is now brewing up her father's original Belgium style witbier as well as IPA's and collaboration brews with Uncle Billy's. They have a spacious tasting room, a gift shop, and a small outdoor area with picnic tables that is dog friendly. They have a couple of food trucks onsite. Future plans are to open a biergarten with cafe and museum to showcase Pierre's original Belgium brew works. I love how they have interwoven touches of the original Celis brewery into the tasting room ambience. A nod to the past, with a bright hope for the future. Currently you cannot purchase flights, only one glass at a time. They will let you sample a taste of the beers currently on tap before making a selection. They have four different beers on tap right now, the Celis White Belgian Style WitBier, the Celis Pale Bock, the Celis Citrus Grandis East Coast IPA, and a West Coast IPA. I am not a beer lover by heart but I found the Celis White to be easy to drink, bright, smooth, and well balanced. My first non sour beer, that I finished a complete pint of! The Celis Pale Block was also delicious with lovely sweet caramel tones, but slightly heavier than the Celis White. My husband gave the East Coast IPA a four out of five stars. I don't like the soapy taste of IPAs myself. But, we both found the West Coast IPA to be even better. read more

Consider a no children policy. Personally I was put off by the number of small children in the front doorway, running around, and screaming. I finally tried out this place last week! The beer itself was great. I loved the setup of the tap room but the table tops are limited; something to think about if you have a big group. I am not sure of the $ yelp sign. I had 4 beers on my tab and it was $35; so $9 each. I thought that was a bit expensive. Adelberts down the street isn't even that pricey. For instance there's a lady knitting at the bar and another old lady giving some guy a neck massage. Hey whatever, if someone gives me a neck massage at a brewery I'm not going to argue. For a second lets just set aside the fact that the beer produced here by Celis brewery is objectively phenomenal. What truly made this experience memorable was the service. The service exceeded every and all expectations (Hailey and Nikki). With having to deal with the restraints of covid, your staff has gone above and beyond to ensure the safety of your patrons. I truly can not emphasize the importance of professionalism that your staff has shown in providing the great experience that I've had during these trying times.
