First, the food here is 4-5 stars. I have only glowing things to say about the deliciousness of the food here. I also enjoyed the decor and the service. Until after dinner... There were four of us and we settled the bill by splitting it. For some really weird reason, Cazbar adds 15% to your check and they don't tell you about it. I have never experienced this before. When we paid, we lingered for another 10 minutes. At that point, someone came out to say that they had forgotten to add 15% to the other party's bill and they presented them with a new charge that was not approved. It was really weird and unpleasant to be charged an automatic gratuity for a party of four with no upfront communication about that. Then, it was offensive to have another 15% charged to someone else's card without having them sign for it. It felt very uncomfortable and made me not want to come here again. If you charge an automatic gratuity this should be in large print all over your menu. The server should tell you about it again. If they forget to add a charge to your bill after you sign for it, the restaurant should have to absorb that cost. Sorry, due to shady practices I will not return. read more

We really had a great experience at Cazbar. The food is very authentic. The atmosphere is funky and well designed. The prices are reasonable for what you get. They even had belly dancing towards the end of our meal. I ordered "Lamb, 3 Ways" upon recommendation of the waiter. It came with a small side salad, with a good dressing, a very good scoop of interesting rice. The lamb was served on a skewer, in a Turkish patty, and lamb chops on the bone. Each one had a different marinade and was totally delicious. It's fun to eat out in the Mt. Vernon neighborhood, too, because it's the more funky part of town, within walking distance of many other bars and also the Inner Harbor. read more

I came in with my boyfriend and we were fortunate to be seated immediately after coming in. Cazbar is a quaint and inviting place located in the Mount Vernon area of Baltimore. There is a pretty good sized menu with a lot of good options. The food is tasty and well portioned and not overly expensive. The restaurant isn't particularly spacious in the main area, so I'd recommend a reservation, especially if you want to catch the belly dancing shows on the weekends. The long version: Came here on a whim on a Saturday night and had a great time! Almost all of the tables were taken, but we were lucky and managed to get seated since there were only two of us. Would definitely recommend making a reservation for larger parties. SERVICE: The customer service here was the best that I've experienced in a long time. Looking for a local place to experience Turkey without purchasing a flight and heading out there? Cazbar is the place! My boyfriend and I came here for date night. After stepping into the place, I was immediately filled with nostalgia for my short week trip to Turkey 5 years ago. The ambiance and decor is great! The place was filled with authentic Turkish decorations: the evil eye pendant when you enter the establishment, the Turkey lanterns, the Turkish ceramic plates with tulip patterning. It really took me back to the days when we were wandering the streets of Turkey, exploring mosques by day, and eating all night long. Turkish food is some of my favorite--the multiple courses, starting off with a plethora of meze plates, followed by a variety of delicious meats! So naturally, we had to get the Sultan's platter. There was no way I wasn't trying as many of the meze's as possible. Our first course was a variety of cold meze's. My favorites were the hummus, baba ghanoush (eggplant puree), saksuka (slow-cooked eggplant, zuccini and squash), and haydari (AMAZING dill and garlic yogurt dip). I ended up gorging myself on all the dips. We definitely had to ask for a second basket of bread. By the time we got to our second course, THE MEATS!, I was already fairly full. The salmon and the shrimp were VERY GOOD. The lamb was also amazing. I didn't get a chance to try everything else as I was already very stuffed, so we got the rest to go. The baklava was good, not the best I've ever had, but still very good. We also ordered two drinks, the peared champagne and the Turkish coffeetini. The peared champagne was like pear heaven, even the maraschino tasted like pear. Very delicious! The Turkish coffeetini was also amazing--especially for those who love espresso and Bailey's. Mmmmmmm. Overall, a great experience! Definitely a place to check out to get the full Mediterranean experience. Cazbar is one of my absolute favorite restaurants in Baltimore. The decor is exceptionally beautiful, the service is incredible. I've had the server Chris twice now and he is the best in the business. He is so attentive, warm, and provides great recommendations for sometimes unfamiliar Turkish cuisine. I also like the belly dancing show they have on Friday and Saturday nights. The dancer is very talented and really kind as well. The food. Every single thing I've ever ordered here, I've loved with the one exception of the raki drink. It was way too strong for me and not for my liking, just not suited for my tastes. Otherwise my favorite dish is the lamb moussaka. Tonight though I ordered the lamb Adana kebap sandwich, which came with a side of salad and fries. The bread was so flavorful and the tzatziki sauce and spicier sauce were the perfect complements for my sandwich and fries. For dessert, the table shared the baklava and kunefe. The baklava was yummy but the kunefe was my favorite. So sweet and the stringy texture made it so fun to eat! Lastly, my friend ordered a semisweet Turkish coffee and it looked gorgeous. Outstanding service and food. Don't let the empty restaurant fool you. They're open late and it was nice to see single men and women enjoy food sitting at the bar going about their business. One lady was reading a book while enjoying her dinner. Ordered the Turkish pizza, lahmacun, it was spicy and very delicious. For entrée, we had to get the Adana Iskender and the Adana Shish Kebap. Omg, the garlic yogurt and the tomato sauce on the iskender was phenomenal. Wish I can eat this every night. We left feeling satisfied, full, and very happy. What a pleasant surprise! We ordered the "sultan's platter" for two, which included several very tasty cold mezzes with bread, an enormous platter of grilled meats and rice, and baklava all for $60. We added a bottle of fantastic Turkish wine and Turkish coffee, both of which were great. All in all, a wonderful meal. It was late, we were cold (January 2020), and hungry after getting off the plane from LA. We were staying at the Embassy Suites and yelped to find something good, close, and open. We came to Cazbar and it didn't disappoint. We got there around 9:30 PM, and even though they were closing in 30 minutes, we didn't feel unwelcome at all. Maybe call us old fashioned, but the iPad-like menus were a bit off putting to my partner (I was OK with it, but I thought it took away from the experience a bit). It did, however, help with navigating around the menu. We started with the 3 cold mezze's of hummus, baba ghanoush and the tomato/eggplant thing. Note: they come with bread and not pita (I think we would have preferred pita, and assumed that bread was more Turkish so went with it). The tomato/eggplant dip was EXCELLENT. The baba ghanoush and hummus were both very good. Just what we needed to take the bite of of our hunger and hangry nature. For the main course, I had the shrimp, feta, tomato appetizer and it was EXCELLENT. The shrimp flavor was amazing and the vegetables it was paired with/on/over were also quite tasty. My partner believes he ordered wrong -- Coban Kaverma -- a lamb sauté. The lamb just didn't seem to have the depth of flavor he was expecting. It was good, but he is blaming himself. Even though it was now past 10 PM, and the staff turned the lights up/bright to signal closing time, they were gracious and recommended the baklava cheesecake. OMG was it yummy. We actually only finished half of it and took the rest with us (to eat the next day -- it was better the first time, so if you order it, eat it all up). We would go back again for sure!! I had a really great lunch experience here! Went to lunch with some girls and the atmosphere was way nicer than we expected. Service was great and so was the food. I had a delicious falafel sandwich from their lunch menu! The fries were super crisp with light seasoning and not to oily. The salad was nice and refreshing and the sauces were AMAZING! Like really. Couldn't stop dipping my sandwich and fries in it. My big got the roasted veggie sandwich which I'm usually skeptical about because sometimes roasted veggies can be bland at some restaurant but not here!! It was grilled with herbs and just the right flavors and seasonings I really enjoyed it. I actually wished I had ordered the grilled veggie one but the falafel was still good. After two hours of waiting, the food did not arrive - it turns out that they simply lost the order and lied about it. By that point, it was nearly 10 pm, we were starving, and I found Cazbar. Within 30 minutes, even on short notice and at the dead of night, delicious food was at our door. That is AWESOME service and very welcome in an area where delivery typically sucks. Lord, we started off with the mezes as part of the Sultan Platter, warm warm delicious pita bread the best bread i have had hands down in any restaurant, it went well with the five different mezes. Now, that in on itself is a meal, but also the main show was about to unveil itself, a platter fit for a king. Lamb, meatballs, salmon, rice, kebabs, different types of turkish goodness ohh wee. We couldnt finish this, and there is baklava for dessert, this place just skyrocketed to the best meal i have ever had in baltimore no joke at all, and i have been around. Got to give credit upfront for amazing decor. They have very cool decorative lights hanging in various colors. We kept joking about stealing one. Dim blue and pink lighting under the bar as well. The patties tasted very fresh and full of flavor. Not overly crunchy either. Good stuff. They serve the sandwiches with fries and a little salad, too, so it'll fill you up. Good deal. For dessert, we decided to go with a cocktail, and we shared a Turkish coffeetini. Oh baby. So freaking good. Coffee mixed with espresso vodka, frangelico, and baileys served in a martini glass. Cazbar has a small and intimate setting, with very fun and eclectic decor. Our waitress was extremely attentive and helpful at explaining the menu items for us. We ended up doing the three-course lunch special for $14/person, which I would definitely recommend for anyone to try. You get to start with a soup-- pumpkin or lentil. They were both delicious! The pumpkin had a tiny hint of sweetness to it which I enjoyed. The lentil soup was extremely tasty too though, so you can't go wrong with either. For the second course we ordered the baba ganoush and the saksuka. They are both made with eggplant, but the saksuka has more of a tomato-like taste to it. I wish we could've ordered more than just two though, because everything sounded great. For entrees we ordered the stuffed eggplant and the chicken Adana. Each came with a salad and rice. The eggplant was very tender and topped with cheese. The chicken, however was too dry. It was made with ground chicken breast and is very lean, which is probably why it came out too dry. They do serve it with a dill-yogurt sauce which helps, but I'd order something else next time. A good alternative might be the chicken pirzola, which has more tender chicken cuts used. If you're around N Charles St for the lunch hour, definitely stop in Cazbar for a quick, delicious, and decently priced meal. read more
