An absolutely beautiful place. I came with a group of friends over the weekend for dinner with one of them being a member at this private club. It was just our group downstairs for the late dinner and the staff who took care of us were amazing. We all ordered drinks and they brought out complimentary biscuits that were piping hot and fresh. It was super moist and so good with the buttered balls spread on it. For my main, I chose the Shrimp and Scallops Etouffe. The pieces were large and the creole sauce was excellent. After dinner, our member friend took us on a tour of the mansion. It was great seeing the different rooms. This place was huge and the architecture was really beautiful. WOW WOW WOW. I visited the Engineer's Club with a friend a few weeks ago when they hosted performances of Eugene Onegin by the Baltimore Opera. The Engineer's Club is located in the Garrett-Jacobs Mansion in Mount Vernon. It's the city's oldest private social club, but it hosts events and weddings in addition to serving its membership functions. It was an absolutely stunning venue for an opera. The staircase, the wood, the stage...! If you love architecture, you just have to see it for yourself (may in combination with that other gorgeous building just down the street - you know the one!). Definitely adding it to my list of Baltimore's most beautiful buildings. If you have a chance, don't hesitate to visit for a performance or event. I know I'll be back for another opera next season. They also offer tours, which I am adding to my must do in Baltimore list! read more

Truly a magical space - I must have walked by a million times but never knew this space existed. The night I went the Opera Baltimore was showing "Eugene Onegin". The venue was magical - I felt like I stepped into a Time Machine. The show was superb - funny and dramatic (this the opera) and the cast was so talented. The seating is set up so the chairs do move - we were in row L and the view wasn't bad - I could see faces and read the subtitles. I highly recommend checking Opera Baltimore for their schedule and making a visit to the Engineer's Club ASAP. It's so special. read more

There's a beautiful treasure in the Baltimore neighborhood of Mt Vernon called the Engineers Club. I've been fortunate enough to attend two different Thirty Thursday's through Opera Baltimore wherein patrons can experience a highlights concert with wine tastings. The Engineers Club is an amazing venue for this event because the ambiance feels lavish and worldly. While the music and wine are wonderful, the interior details are unforgettable. My biggest tip? My mom and I were visiting Baltimore from LA and since it was close to the Peabody we randomly strolled in to check it out, we were immediately greeted by Eric who let us walk around EVEN THOUGH THEY WERE CLOSED. He turned on the lights for us and gave us a quick run down of the place. It was absolutely stunning and spacious. The Tiffany ceiling was mesmerizing and I loved the wood flooring! It is always delightful to come to the Garret-Jacob Mansion. This is a beautiful home steeped in history. Today, we came for a lecture by historian Wayne Schaumburg. He talked about Christmas in Old Baltimore. We went all the way back to the 1940's with a terrific slide presentation on what has stayed the same and what has changed over the years. Wayne made the theatre come alive with slides of the great holiday customs from the 1940s to the 1960s, including downtown shopping, visiting Santa, the Toytown Parade, firehouse train gardens, and even our favorite holiday topic to quibble over: aluminum trees. The time just flew by - we thoroughly enjoyed a walk down memory lane. read more

On the night of a fluke heat wave in B-more, I took the better half to an evening of craft cocktails by the amazing Brendan Door paired with arias by the Baltimore Concert Opera. The venue is amazing and historic, with great entertaining space and a small theatre. Unfortunately the heat could not be turned down as it was still supposed to be winter. It that did little to detract from a super fun evening. Can't wait until next year's event. read more

My friends got married here, and the venue is gorgeous. My friend was initially reluctant to have her wedding at the Engineer's Club because of the layout - multiple rooms with the guests spread across the venue - but it ended up being great. I spent some time helping my friend and her bridesmaids get ready for the wedding, and the staff at the Engineer's Club was top notch in terms of getting us everything we needed. They were working hard on getting the place set-up when we arrived (we arrived VERY early so as to ensure that the groom didn't see the bride before the wedding), and they were great about ordering the bridal party lunch in so that everybody was relaxed and well-fed before the wedding. The staff were all incredibly nice and friendly - and they run an efficient coat check (important when it's cold...and everybody is leaving at the same time!). The venue is beautiful, and it's especially nice that it was decorated for Christmas. Despite the "bitter cold" of Baltimore, the Engineer's Club felt warm and cozy. With the dark wood and high ceilings, you could see how this place could seem stuffy but it's not - elegant and classy while still welcoming. There are a few touches that I think are great - I think the entrance and the staircase are very elegant, and I love the atrium area with the windows in the ceiling. It was just dusk when the wedding reception started so the natural light was a nice added touch. The library area was open for display (with some mementos from the bride's family), and the large open area near the front of the club which was used for both the hors doerves and then later for dancing was a nice open space. A couple of negatives - most of the guests were seated in the large, wood paneled room to the back and behind the atrium but a number of tables were also set in the atrium. The sound system wasn't working particularly well so most of us in the atrium couldn't hear the bride's father or best man/maid of honor speeches. read more

This place is a hidden gem here in the city, and has been around for decades. Me being a history nerd, the first event/chance I had to head over here I took it! The space is absolutely beautiful and maintains most of the original splendor and unique touches that were there in the past. I love the open courtyard area and for someone who would love to plan a dream event or party this would be one of the places to check out for sure. There are multiple rooms, spaces to hang out and accommodations. Staff was really nice and I look forward to the next time I get to check it out. read more

I've come to this place twice now for Thirsty Thursday's at the Opera. This is an awesome event and you should go! The first one I saw was Arias, Ambers and IPAs, where they pair opera songs (live music!) with beers. They chose a lot of fun songs from different operas. I've never heard an opera sung in English before, that was a first! The operas in foreign languages have subtitles projected above the stage so you can understand the song. This was my favorite event! I also went to Vino and Verdi, where they sang select songs from Rigoletto--I liked this event a little less but it was still fun! They walk you through the entire opera. The location is beautiful. There's an outdoor-looking courtyard area that is completely enclosed. All the rooms are fancy and elegant and you feel like the classiest lady just being there. read more

Came here for the Baltimore Whiskey Festival. This Engineer's Club is located in Mt. Vernon. Upon entering the building, we were greeted by a gracious host and given our company whiskey glass. The building is historical and has a lovely space and flow throughout. The Whiskey Festival featured samplings of assorted whiskeys that were located throughout the historic building. There was food included in the cost, consisting of meatballs w/ marinara sauce, jumbo coconut shrimp, fruit and veggie spread in addition to waiters walking around with trays of hors'dorves. The whiskey, ahum, THE WHISKEY...there were various distilleries with whiskeys representing the US, including Maryland, and overseas. The reps were knowledgeable and pleasant in informing you of the various methods used to create them. There was a whiskey seminar with tastings, an awesome jazz quartet and the Maker's Mark folks were dipping glasses in their icon red plastic drip! The crowd was much more, shall I say, refined than at the other events that Trigger Agency has had(e.g. wine; beer, bourbon & BBQ, beer and crab festivals). The description did mention business casual attire, so that may be why. Anywhoo, the Whiskey Fest is definitely one that I will be visiting again! read more

We had our December 2022 wedding reception at the Engineers Club. The evening was everything we had dreamed of and more! The venue itself is absolutely stunning, unique, elegant and is just something truly special. Several of our guests commented it's the most beautiful wedding venue they've ever seen. The food was delicious - from freshly shucked oysters, to some of the best crab cakes we've ever had - the Club has an incredibly expansive menu to choose from for your big day. The staff were also extremely pleasant and wonderful to our guests - so respectful and willing to help in any way they could with anything that came up during the reception. Asha was also an absolute pleasure to work with - she was incredibly professional, responsive, and instrumental in the planning of everything leading up to the big day. The Engineers Cub team is wonderful and we cannot say enough good things. read more

We had the pleasure of going there for a wedding but also of having our wedding there. As guests AND hosts, we can say that Asha (the event coordinator) is absolutely amazing! She would turn anything into gold. During the months prior to the event, I was a bit worried at times because my emails would remain unanswered for several days but all my doubts went away when I saw the results at the two weddings. Even if you are not fully prepared or haven't thought about a few details, Asha, Krystal (the other event coordinator) and the staff at the Engineers Club will do everything to make your day extra special. They are very efficient and very professional. We received a lot of compliments regarding the venue, how it was beautiful and very classy. As far as I understood, the Engineers Club is originally a private club that started after the fire in Baltimore in 1904. Engineers gathered there to plan the reconstruction of buildings that had been burned down. It is now a professional society (you don't need to be an engineer to get married there, in case you were wondering :) ) and the building is a historical building that is getting renovated. Each room is more beautiful that the previous one. You can actually tour the mansion virtually from the website. If you plan on having your wedding there, know that no other weddings will be scheduled on the same day as yours, which means you'll have the Club for you and your guests that day for as long as you need. The venue also does catering so that's one less thing to worry about. They offer a brunch package for Sundays which saves a lot of money, if you are working with a tight budget. The food is absolutely delicious, so enjoy the tasting! Because the venue is gorgeous, it's perfect for photos and the area around the Club (Mount Vernon) is also ideal for outdoor photography. The Atrium at the Engineers Club is ideal: you have the natural light without having to worry about "what if it rains?" Finally, I read in a previous review that someone was complaining about the sound system. This is not the fault of the Club but that of the DJ. read more

We had a business dinner at this venue. It is absolutely gorgeous inside. The service, waiters and waitresses, was outstanding. And the food was absolutely delicious. Chef Jonathan and Tyra outdid themselves. The appetizers, which included bacon wrapped scallops and crab cakes, were scrumptious. The main course, which included different stations of pasta, vegetables, crabcakes and meat, were outstanding. I particularly enjoyed the cheese ravioli, which had some sweet and savory flavor, the shrimp pasta, and again the crabcakes. I highly recommend this venue for a special event dinner. Mary Lee Williams Bortner This venue is so beautiful, the food is delicious, the drinks are poured just right but buyer beware! I had numerous complaints that our guests never saw the hot appetizers. The small amount in the bridal room were cold and we had 22 people in the party. The bride who had issues with the wedding coordinator is right on target too. She does what she wants and not what you ask her to do. I didn't' have any last minute changes. I had countless meetings and emails with both coordinators and they just blew off my requests as the event was unfolding!! First of all, the coordinator doesn't return emails or phone calls to you or your vendors? We also asked for the invoice ahead as well and when we got it 3 days before the wedding with overcharges. We gave them very detailed floor plans for the seating. My husband did not sit with me at Table 1! He had to sit with the grooms family!! The staff was told immediately as my family was being seated that there was not a spot for my husband. They ignored the problem. So just after I was formally seated I had to run around trying to find someone to fix the problem . I missed most of his welcome speech. So instead of enjoying my meal I was annoyed at their incompetence .My beautiful flowers that were suppose to be given to my family and friends the next day at a breakfast were given away to the staff that evening without my permission!! My expensive head table centerpieces were gone!! I In lieu of favors I made a donation and had a presentation to a local school that was to be put out during the cocktail hour. I found the display under a table at 11 p.m. I am still wondering why all of my pastries were never replenished at the dessert table? I paid for strawberries / whipped cream but that was never put out either ? Our gifts were never locked up but left out all night? They say yes to your requests but on that day you will find out that they don't communicate with each other or you and frankly just blow you off!! ! They do what they want even with what you paid for without asking! It is a great location. If I had to do the wedding over again, I would have looked into the Walters or the Peabody for the reception. They are great sales people ..I will concede to that....but once you sign the contract you have no recourse. I am still waiting for an apology from this staff. My husband and I got married at the Engineers Club this past month and we were blown away by how everything turned out. The mansion was built in the 1800s and is out of this world. We didn't have to go overboard on decorations, because the venue itself was enough to wow our guests (think traditional elegance). The club also sits directly on Mount Vernon park, which is arguably the most beautiful spot in the city (and very convenient if you want to continue the party in Mt Vernon afterwards). We had free reign of the club on our wedding day, and we made use of it all- getting ready at 7am in the bridal suite- then moving guests from one room to the next as our ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception progressed. We decided to do a Saturday brunch wedding to cut down on the costs, with the addition of some hors d'oeuvres, a salmon entree and crepe station. A lot of our guests raved about the food, but they were even more impressed with how beautiful the venue was (some saying it was the most beautiful wedding they have been to). It truly felt magical, and we could not have picked a better place to celebrate our marriage. Asha Hislop was our coordinator at the club, and she was right there with us the whole year while we were planning... remembering all of our little requests and making sure none of the details were overlooked. Asha is a true asset to the club, and although she was a bit busy at times (coordinating event after event), she never made us feel like we weren't a priority, and she always made time to meet with us to work through our questions. They were extremely accommodating, and even extended our wedding an extra hour with no additional charge (4 hours total), and served drinks to our guests as they arrived before the ceremony. I honestly don't know what I would have done without Asha! We had a friend sponsor us from the club, so we didn't have to pay an extra fees to book or join (although we would love to become members one day). We felt the overall bottom line price was very reasonable, which allowed us to spend in other areas. Bloody Marys and Mimosas were included in the per person brunch price, and for the rest we did an open bar per consumption (which totally worked for our daytime affair of about 130 people). Our wedding was like a dream come true, and I couldn't be more impressed with the Engineers Club and their entire staff. read more
