Great place. Healthy, fresh food. The team there is amazing. It's not your typical jaded fast-food experience.

I think I may have put together the wrong combination of items because my food wasn't as flavorful as I wanted. I ordered the greens and grains base with chicken for my protein. I would think the chicken would've been slightly more seasoned. I had them add hummus (wasn't a fan of their flavor) and tzatziki, along with the tomato and onion salad, feta, Greek vinigarette and cabbage slaw. This base allowed me to get a pita included. For the food, I would give Cava Grill 3 stars but due to the compostable products (utensils, bowls, napkins, cups, etc.)/environmental consciousness they got another star. If I were to come back, I would try a different protein and hope for a more robust flavor. read more

Cava has become one of my favorite go-to lunch spots. I like being able to get a relatively "healthy" lunch that keeps me full for the remainder of the day. Depending on your taste buds, it may take 1-2 visits to find your combination of choice, as it did for me. But once I found what I liked best, I was so hooked. I prefer the super greens base, which is a combination of chopped/shredded greens. It's filling even if you do not get rice or pita. And I usually choose between the chicken, meatballs or roasted vegetables. There are definitely combos that you can choose to "play it safe." As far as the service, the staff is typically friendly. At times, there has seemed to be some language barriers between staff and customers, but nothing that hindered the accuracy of my food order personally. The lines are super long during the lunch hour, but it typically moves pretty fast. This location has mediocre service and equally mediocre quality of food. The ingredients are not the freshest, and the employees seem to be trained to be extremely stingy with the amount they provide for the toppings--not even full scoops. There is a lot of cross-contamination of food because they are rushing to fulfill orders and clear out the lines and thus not particularly interested in customer service or engagement; expect one chunk of beef or chicken in your vegetarian entree and be lucky if you get a smile or two. The chicken is marinated well but sometimes overdone so you're biting in a fully charred lump. Also, arrive at least an hour before they close. I recently visited a few day ago, and they were already packing up by 9:20 pm even though they close at 10 pm, so they are pretty eager to get out right on time, which makes me, as a late-night diner, seem unwelcome. read more

I'm so glad they finally have a Cava in Downtown Silver Spring. This place never disappoints. Salads are always fresh, filling, and made-to-order with delicious ingredients and in a remarkably short amount of time. I also like that drink options venture outside the traditional carbonated soft drinks. Things like Jasmine Tea, unsweetened black tea, and watermelon mint lemonade all offer the perfect compliment to a delicious meal. There's plenty of seating indoors, as well as about a half dozen tables outside. Even when the lines get long, the staff does a great job of getting customers in and out very quickly. This is easily my go to lunch spot in Downtown Silver Spring. read more

A Perfect 5 stars! Cava is the full package such as my favorite Mediterranean cuisine items, meals are prepared quickly, fresh & healthy ingredients, and delicious drinks to pair up with their meals. I eat there on a weekly basis and mix up my meals with different protein sources such as falafel, braised lamb, braised beef, and their meatballs. Then they have a great spread of sauces such as lemon herb tahini, yogurt dill, and their vinegarette that accompanies their braised lamb & beef soooooo very well! I have been to this location several times and I love it every single time. The restaurent is pretty clean, the staff are very friendly and nice(most of the time) the service is always fast and best of all the food is very good and tasty, at least during my last 2 visits. Way better than Chipotle and part of my 2nd date with a new woman on Friday, September 29 (Girlfriend since late October). I had tickets to an 80's/90's dance party at Fillmore Silver Spring. Originally, we were going to go to a sit-down restaurant, but we had a bit of an emergency while walking in downtown Silver Spring. We bumped into one of my friends, who was over there for the same event at Fillmore; so that was the first friend she met. However, we cut it short when my date said she needed to find a restroom. Her leg was bleeding! This was due to shaving. I had to wait like 30 minutes and was worried. Then, we went to CVS to get band-aids and then we went to Cava for her to still stop the bleeding! I'm sitting in Cava, and an employee was waiting for the restroom, but gave up. When she finally got out, I suggested we just eat here due to time considerations, and I told her Cava is really good (I had it before in Tysons & Bethesda). She seemed unsure of what to get so I tried to help when I could. My chicken bowl was excellent, and she enjoyed hers too. There were so many fresh ingredients to choose from, more than Chipotle (better than Chipotle). Overall, it was a great meal and probably better than the sit-down restaurant anyway. read more

Cava is one of my staples for lunch. Their food is so fresh and depending on when I go, I can get my meal quick too. I always get the 1/2 supergreens and 1/2 white rice (with the pita!). For my 3 dips I usually get tzatziki, hummus, and harissa. The red pepper hummus, crazy feta, and eggplant dips are great as well. My protein as of late has been the chicken. If you are a lamb person, the lamb meatballs are bombbbb. When it comes to toppings: everything (my bowl be HEFTY). For dressings I usually get the vinaigrette and herb tahini on the side. They have numerous fresh juices/lemonades/drinks that are delicious. If I'm feeling like I need something sweet then I'll get the blondie. All in all, I love me some cava. I've eaten here twice, and found it great for soloing, as well as for the couples, friends, and families I've seen eating here. I had lots of fun building my salad with all of the great choices available, and everything was fresh and tasty. The salad was the perfect size for me. The fruity beverages are good, too. This is only my second time having a meal at CAVA (first time was at DCA) and I must say that I prefer this place over a similar type of Mediterranean fast food back home. The value was great--about $10--for a hearty bowl of greens, grains, dips, protein and toppings! You order Chipotle style so get in line. I opted for spinach greens with a little bit of rice as my base. They have six types of salad greens to choose from and you can ask for a mix. You can also ask for a pita as your base. You get to choose 3 dips so I chose Tzatziki, Hummus and Eggplant. For my protein choice, I chose Chicken and for my toppings, cucumbers, olives, Feta, chips and lemon tahini dressing. My sister purchased a drink but I just had water. The nice thing is they have a Watermelon Mint beverage that has no added sugar. My sister got that and it was refreshing. They also have a few more drinks that are not sweetened. Definitely a great choice if you're in Downtown Silver Spring. read more

I usually love Cava and their customer service but, yesterday I was totally disappointed! I ordered my food online and went to pick it up. I stood by the front where you're supposed to wait for pickup orders. As an employee finished ringing up a customer, instead of asking how could she help me, she went right back to the line to finish up another person's order. Not once did she acknowledge me. It was almost as if I didn't exist. What a major turnoff! I buy food from Cava quite often and I refuse to give this location another penny! read more

Get as much of their crazy feta as the server allows you to. The location is clean and you are always right in and out of this location. This is my go to location. Sometimes for lunch and sometimes for dinner when I get off work late. The workers are all extremely nice and welcoming, I've yet to encounter anyone who seems like "they're annoyed for being at work". Which is very rare for any fast food place. Everything on the inside is always clean, well stock, and trash aren't going over the top. Have indoor and outdoor seating. I came in close to their closing time at 9:45pm and wanted spicy lamb meatballs, though they didn't have any left for the day, they offered to make it if I could wait, so of course I waited! Spicy lamb balls my favorites!!!! While I was waiting they even offer me a free drink. I was not expecting anything, I was happy they even offer to make more just for me! It's the little things that counts. The food at this location is also very consistent, everything is always good and taste fresh. Nothing to complain here. This Silver Spring Cava has become my very favorite lunch spot. I've been coming here since it replaced the old Baja Fresh at this location a couple years back, and once a week I look forward to coming in and getting a fantastic lunch. I usually slip in early before the noon lunch rush, and always appreciate feeling like I am overly welcomed by the incredibly friendly crew. The service is phenomenal. Karla is exceptional and goes out of her way to make sure that my lunch is tailored exactly how I like it. The food is always delicious and fresh. I enjoy watching the crew breaking up blocks of feta, grilling trays of vegetables and chicken, and chopping up everything on butcher blocks as it all adds to the dining experience to see it all come together. Getting the perfect mix of meal possibilities was a bit daunting at first with all the feasible menu combinations. The seasonal additions/changes with their toppings seems banal, but a slight modification to a typical meal can really make a difference is taste. Cava is my go-to when I want something cheap and quick. It's also a great place if you want something filling but also healthy. My usual is a chicken grain bowl with different veggies, although I'd like to venture out and try the other proteins because they look good as well! This is my favorite location because the staff is friendly, the service is always fast, and all their ingredients taste fresh and flavorful. I'm never disappointed when I come here and my cravings are always satisfied. For the most part they give a pretty good portion and are nice about giving extras if you ask for it. Tip: if you love the sauce as much as I do you can ask for it on the side. That way you can get more, as well as control how much goes into your bowl. read more

One of the most disappointing meals I've had in a LONG time- plus possible public health threat. I ordered: white rice, falafel, red pepper hummus, regular hummus, harissa, cukes, pickled onions, tahini dressing. I was stunned by the lack of heat. I mean, room temperature, verging on cold. I've taken food safety courses, so the below-room temperature meal left me not only not only meant that I wouldn't enjoy my meal, but concerned for possible food poisoning. Wholefoods sums it up nicely: "Keep HOT foods HOT! Hold hot cooked foods between 140°F and 165°F until serving time. Harmful bacteria can grow rapidly below 140°F.When food is cooked to temperatures of 165°F to 212°F, most food-poisoning bacteria is killed. The higher the heat, the less time it takes to kill bacteria." I am certain that the food- including rice and falafel- were FAR below 140F. They were room temperature. Not a spot of warmth or heat anywhere. Not cool, Cava, Not cool. read more

Came in on a rainy Friday night, the staff wasn't particularly friendly. And I didn't want rice and he looked confused when I skipped the rice and said pita would be better. You get three dips I asked for two of one and one of another... I only got two. My veggie bowl randomly got meat in it somehow? The veggies are at the front of the counter so there is no way random beef should have arrived in my bowl... especially because the person after me ordered a veggie bowl. I am also not a huge fan of Maine Root soda - it always feels hipster for the sake of being hipster. I'll keep this review short and sweet. A friend and I were in downtown Silver Spring and were looking for a portable meal that we could grab and go quickly. Cava came to mind. We placed an order online and they were ready for pick-up at the specified time. Each bowl cost about $10, which is the standard lunch price in DC. Yes, it's a little bit more expensive than other fast casual places like Chipotle and Roti (still cheaper than Sweetgreen!), but the choice of healthy ingredients and heft of the bowl make it worth it. I can easily get two meals out of their servings, so really it's like a $5 meal! The pita that came with our bowls were warm and soft. I got the greens + grains falafel bowl. While I've had better falafel at Roti and Amsterdam Falafel, my bowl was still tasty and refreshing, and the variety of toppings, dips, and sauces give the bowl more complexity of flavor than say... The employees at this location can be a little overwhelmed because it's a busy location at the downtown but they can do better being inviting for customers especially people who are not used to CAVA. Love the drinks here and the outdoor sitting area on a good day. Spicy lamb, tarziki, super greens and harissa are my favorite things on the menu. This Cava Grill is located close to Downtown Silver Spring. It is within walking distance of the main strip of restaurants and shops on Ellsworth. If you plan on coming here for lunch on a weekday, anticipate a long line... this place is always packed! It seems like everyone who works in Downtown Silver Spring eats here for lunch :P The staff here are great though, they are very efficient at quickly taking orders to keep the line moving. There is plenty of seating and the inside of the store is always clean. The food here is comparable to other Cava Grill locations. Customers order a base, dips (up to 3 included with purchase), protein, toppings and dressing. I usually order the following: Base: Brown Rice & Arugula Dips: 2 scoops of Harissa and 1 scoop of Roasted Red Pepper Hummus Protein: Falafel Toppings: Pita Chips & Quinoa Dressing: Spicy Harissa As with my other reviews of Cava Grill locations, I recommend that you get a drink with your order. There are lots of unique, seasonal flavors that you can try (unlimited refills too!) I LOVEEE Cava and am so happy there is one in Silver Spring now! I typically get a half arugula salad and half rice bowl, and it's super filling. The arugula is easiest to eat with all the dips and toppings. Also throw some of the black lentils on if you want to be super healthy. The crazy feta is a must-have. Pro-tip: you can go 50/50 with the meat/falafel/veggies so if you cant make up your mind, try two! For dressing, I recommend the harissa for those who love spicy food. Otherwise the tahnini or yogurt dill are my favorites. Even when its crazy during lunch/dinner time, the line moves pretty fast. Don't be discouraged- you need Cava! read more

Build-your-own salads and bowls with fresh Mediterranean ingredients. Flavors are excellent, the presentation is top-notch, but prices are high and there's a premium charged for certain proteins. CAVA is a godsend if you are vegetarian or are on a keto/low-carb diet. The food is filling, healthy, and modern. I'm so glad these are taking over the DMV with at least 10 locations now up from zero when I lived here five years ago. This location, in particular, is right near the ice skating rink and public library for Silver Spring's downtown shopping and dining area. Parking is easy nearby in the parking deck near Chick-fil-A (there's a small fee) or you can do the private lot in the back at the entrance to Whole Foods, which is free. The food is delicious and the sauces are outstanding, especially the harissa, which is super spicy. Seating at this venue could be expanded, I think, as during the lunch hour rush there was barely anywhere to sit. Though I'm not a soda drinker, I did overhear some people in our party upset that CAVA doesn't serve Coke and Pepsi, opting for sodas that are made with sugar instead of corn syrup. It's a good move on their part, but may upset some traditional consumers. read more

Cava is a fast casual spot in downtown silver spring. Good for meat eaters, vegetarians, and vegans. It is a "build your own bowl" assembly line. They have greens, rice, lentils, hummus, harissa, falafel, and tons of greek style toppings. They also have cookies from Whisked DC (amazing) and unique fountain drinks. Prices are reasonable and suitable for lunch or a lighter dinner. I like to order my bowl online to get points and to calorie count my bowl. Tip: street parking is slim in this busy area, but I normally can find a spot open up in a few minutes or park around back in the whole foods parking lot. read more

So everything looks good and you're having a hard time deciding what to get? Go with this, you will not be disappointed: 1) You start with the base: order the mixed greens and grains: white rice and mesclun salad. Tell them to also add a little bit of black lentils. During this time they will ask if you want a pita bread: say YES with enthusiasm (it does not cost extra). 2) From the spreads: get 2 scoops of spicy harissa, one scoop feta cheese. 3) From the meats: chose the spicy lamb meatballs, double portion if you're extra hungry, or add the house falafel. 4) Toppings: some more feta cheese, lemon wedges and mint leaves. 5) For the final dressing get the lemon herb tahina. 6) Drink: say yes, take your cup to the juice bar, which is past the soda machine, and get the carrot ginger lemonade with ice. read more

Not too pleased with my recent online order at Cava. When I worked in Tenleytown, I loved going to Cava for lunch, but the Silver Spring location is not great. First, my online order wasn't correct - I got white rice instead of brown. The bowl I ordered was also a much smaller portion than I used to get at Tenleytown (though I got much more rice than spinach, which wouldn't be my preference). Most of the chicken, too, was chewy or crunchy - and not in a good way. I probably won't order again from this location. read more

Love this restaurant.. best food ever.. try to avoid pickles to not be so salty.. I would give him 5 starts unless they take care about using the spreader for pita bread and contaminate the dip.. I am saying this because I have a Celiac disease, where I have to avoid any kind of bread.. this way will contaminate the dipping and cause problem for Celiac customers. On 06/19/17, sometime around 8:45pm, I ordered the lamb meatballs for two to-go bowls I was getting, and when I got home I realized the meatballs in both bowls were RAW. I stopped eating as soon as I noticed this, and essentially wasted $20 on inedible food. I contacted Cava's customer service, and they said they would follow up on this incident; instead, I just got a generic email about how they will investigate the issue and a PATHETIC $3 was credited to my online Cava account. $3 - considering I spent $20 on inedible food there. So next time you're thinking about getting food from Cava, remember that not only do they seem to have absurdly poor quality control and food safety practices, but $3 is the lengths they'll go to to make up for a client's $20 loss.
