I was blessed to experience Bibibop at a derby party yesterday. let me tell you that this food was amazing! I had the tofu bowl with rice, lettuce, onions, eggs, cheese and broccoli with black beans. YUMMY!!! So here's some background information because I have never heard of this place before: Bibibop has been described as "an Asian take on Chipotle." It was founded in 2013 in Columbus, Ohio by Korean American entrepreneur Charley Shin, the founder of Charleys Cheesesteaks. Casual eatery providing customized bowls, rice and salads along with a selection of Asian-inspired toppings. mixed rice Bibimbap meana (mixed rice), sometimes romanised as bi bim bap or bi bim bop, is a Korean rice dish... In my opinion I would say bibimbap is generally considered a very healthy and nutritious dish. It provides a balanced mix of carbohydrates, protein, and fiber. Typically featuring steamed rice, various vegetables, protein (egg or beef), and sesame oil, it is low in fat, high in vitamins, and supports healthy weight management. This is my favorite fast-casual place in Silver Spring. Service is always friendly and excellent. And the food is an excellent value and perfect for anyone on a gluten-free diet. Overall, I had a pleasant and quick dining experience at Bibibop Asian Grill. I've passed this place a dozen of times, and I'm glad that I took the plunge to check out what the restaurant had to offer. I went with a standard Korean BBQ bowl, and everything (including all of the fixings) was great. I thought the price (about 13 bucks) was in line with other similar places in the area. I visited Bibibop right after working out at a nearby gym, and the small bowl had more than enough food to satisfy my hunger. The Chipotle-esque ordering makes life easy. You pretty much will pick a base; add toppings; choose a protein; top with sauce; and mix & enjoy. *I may have mixed up one or two things in this process.* Although I would not go out of my way to dine here, it's definitely a decent place to grab a quick and delicious meal if you are in the downtown Silver Spring area. read more

I have been a fan of this place since it was called Shop House. But I don't come as often as I used to because this is the closest location to me and I usually frequent other places in the area. Nonetheless, I crafted my own bowl with noodles, spicy chicken, veggies, yum yum and teriyaki sauce. I love yum yum sauce and have yet to eat at another place in the area that has it so that definitely stands out. It's definitely worth the $12 I paid for it, I have no complaints. read more

You can build your own bowls or order a specific kind from the menu. Right off the bat, I noticed how fresh the ingredients tasted. There are no nuts in any of what they serve, so it's allergen-friendly; that's a huge plus. I highly recommend trying the tofu and the purple rice. Both items were bursting with flavor and left me satisfied for the rest of the day. The food is good, but the employee who put the food order together had an attitude. It was my wife's first time there and the employee was impatient, rude, and had an attitude explaining how the ordering works. He also didn't put a cup in the to-go back and when my wife went to go get one, he said it was in the bag already and it wasn't. She went to grab a cup and was told "you can't do that because you don't have gloves on." With a snarky tone in his voice. Horrible customer service. Real shame since the food is good but I guess I'll go somewhere else for bibimbap. read more

This chain is one of my favorite spots to eat quickly and somewhat healthy. The staff at this location were super friendly and one worker had a very keen eye. It's a small spot with enough room for everyone to either mingle or mind their own business. The location is downtown Silver Spring so you'll want to park in the Wayne garage and walk across to avoid parking headaches. They discontinued the coconut mango pudding ( which I love) but I was told something really nice is coming soon. I hope so! read more

Bibibop is the fast casual bowl choice if you're interested in Korean style flavors like kimchi, moochae, japchae and gochujang. You can make your bowl atop purple rice, white rice, salad greens, japchae, and sometimes they will let you when in store order half and half for your base. I like that they have a regular bowl and a small bowl. I am perfectly full with a small bowl, but I can eat a regular bowl. However, eating the regular bowl leaves me a little too full and regretful. I like that the vegetable toppings include just about all of them, so, I go for all of them, except black beans. While I like black beans, I just don't like the idea of having them mixed up with japchae or with moochae. I do like that all the ingredients are gluten free, and they have an allergens menu to confirm. I like that there are also choices between having a veggie bowl or a tofu and veggie bowl. The tofu is good, but, I'd rather not have tofu and just veggies. The toppings are healthful and colorful, so, that's another reason I can't decide and just order them all. I am not sure if my favorite is the bean sprouts or the potatoes or the carrots or the sesame kale or the cucumbers (super fresh), but I also add the moochae and pickled cabbage for more flavor. The corn is fun to add for a yellow color. I always want double amounts of the sesame kale and bean sprouts and potatoes, but then it wouldn't be balanced all nicely with the colors. You can add sauces to your order, but I generally prefer to keep it sauce-less, as the food tastes fresh and flavorful without a need for me to add more sauces. I like the idea of sriracha and gochujang, but, I think it's better to just let the flavors come through for the toppings as is. The prices are fair considering you can load on the toppings, making the portions quite generous for the price point. They have some indoor seating, but it's not huge. Feels more of a takeout place, anyhow. The folks here are nice. They always seem to be cooking up more of one thing or another, which is fine by me. With so many fast casual places in downtown Silver Spring, this is just another one to try out to mix it up. Yum! read more

As a heads up, prepare to wait. Every time I visit this location I have to wait an additional 10+ minutes or so because they have run out of a certain item and/or just started cooking. I intentionally visited during high peak times and down times to see if it will be the same situation, and it was. If it isn't the running out of noodles or another ingredient, waiting for a truck to come to deliver produce, or waiting to slice produce, there is always an additional wait. Once you finally get your bowl at this location, the quality of the food remains consistent with other locations but the parking situation and higher chances of not having what I would like, make me hesitant to come back. The manager has been nice whenever I would see her and she has tried to make amends when there is subpar service but for this to happen consistently, I can't rate more than 3 stars. I am regular customer of BiBIBOP at the Silver Spring location. I thought it necessary, to commend the staff on their professionalism and excellent service at the 935 Ellsworth Drive location. Staff members like: Cindy, Carlos, Deloris and others do an exceptional job in welcoming customers warmly and using their names accordingly. In addition, to the outstanding customer service, the assortment of dishes are healthy, delicious and reasonably priced. A special mention has to be made about the new beverages: the Strawberry Hibiscus Lemonade and Cucumber Mint Lemonade made by Deloris, tastes natural, healthy and flavorful. The ambiance is inviting and the decor is nicely organized with attractive lighting fixtures and seating capacity for about 20 people. I highly recommend the dining experience at BiBOP. read more

I love getting to make my own choices, but I can be so indecisive. I love purple rice. Does it taste different than white? I can't really say because of all the other flavors in my bowl. Yes, getting a bowl (Step One) was the easy part for me. Step 2: Protein. I usually do tofu. I prefer a more flavorful one, but theirs will do. Step 3: Toppings. I don't like to over do it. Cabbage, carrots, maybe corn, and oh yes, cheese please. Step 4: Sauce. How can you not go with the Yum Yum sauce?! It's yummy. It's not the cheapest lunch option, but I had a bit left over for the next day's lunch, so it's worth every penny. read more

I'm so happy I finally tried bibibop. It's been on my list of places to try for a while and I loved the experience! It felt similar to cava in some ways but maybe healthier? There are a lot of protein options to add as toppings. You can also get unlimited toppings which is a bonus. For the base, there's purple or white rice, noodles and salad. Or you can make it into a wrap. I'd never seen purple rice before and was curios to try it. I got half rice and half salad, added beans and bean sprouts for extra protein, tofu, and then a bunch of veggies. I liked that you could add eggs as a topping so if you're hungry this will give you an extra protein boost on top of beans and bean sprouts. There's plenty of different sauces to add, and again they are unlimited. I got the korean red and cucumber wasabi. I couldn't finish my meal so I ate the rest the next day and I thought it was still good! Cherry on top is free miso soup! My mind was blown! Stopped in here on a Friday afternoon to catch up with a friend. He suggested this place and at first I was hesitant, but I'm glad I tried it. I ordered a bowl with spicy chicken, white rice, corn, kale, purple cabbage, cucumbers, and sauces on the side (sriracha was my favorite, but I enjoyed the sesame ginger). My meal was tasty and I felt full after (initially, I was thinking maybe I didn't order enough for my bowl, but I was pleasantly surprised). Okay...so I know it's a chain...but dang, these guys are good. First, the staff could not be nicer (they offered me an ice pack after I mashed my shin walking into the place (btw, walk straight...THEN turn right)). They walked my friend and me through the options and the ordering mechanism (though we had a pretty good handle on it considering its similarity to other nearby establishments..cough cough...Cava). So my friend had the tofu and I had the spicy chicken. He said his was excellent and I can tell you that mine was FAB-U-LOUS!!! The toppings were fresh and tasty (I went with kale, corn, potatoes, cabbage, egg, carrots, and lettuce). I shied away from the purple rice but my buddy had it and he said it was good. I'll probably try it next time (like tomorrow!!!). The portions were huge and my total was under a Hamilton so I was very satisfied with the entire event. The whole process took less than ninety seconds to make so if you're in a rush then this is the place for you. You can also phone ahead now to speed up the process even further. A new Korean fusion fast casual. It's like Chipotle except it's Korean influenced ingredients.1) pick your base (rice, purple rice, lettuce and or noodles), 2). protein ( 2 kinds of chicken, steak or tofu). and then 3). toppings (eggs, cheese, purple cabbage, sprouts etc.) of your choice. After you pay, there's a sauce station with more traditional condiments such as gochujang, Sriracha, white sesame seeds and innovative cucumber sauce. The thing that is different than other fast casual is that Bibibop has a self serve miso soup. In fact, I think their soup was my favorite thing about this place. It's was mild and soothing. My salad was generally healthy with a lot of veggies. While my spicy chicken was tasty, all their proteins are sauced sweet or spicy . I wish they had an option for less / no sauced option. Their portions are large so pick your choices accordingly. This place was small with a few tables but they probably will do a lot of take outs. The service was pleasant! They opened about a week ago and were patiently explaining everything to customers. Price is very reasonable (~$8-$10pp) for healthier version of Korean food. Parking is street or public lots. What I liked about Bibibop is that this is the first place that hasn't botched up Korean fusion food, not loaded with 80% rice / noodle carbs, providing healthier options, straight gochujang instead of sugared / watered interpretation and their Miso soup (technically Japanese). This is a salad your co-workers will woo ahh at not hold their noses. This is a solid option to Chipotle, Zoe's and the like. Bibibop has a very good chance at the mainstream fast casual market. I came here on a Tuesday afternoon for their soft opening event, one free bowl per customer till 2pm. This location is about the same size as the Bethesda location. Street parking is available as well as a nearby parking garage. As stated in my Bethesda review, BIBIBOP is Korean style Chipotle. Bowls are between $6-8 depending on which protein you pick. Step 1 - Base Rice, Noodles or Salad Step 2 - Protein Chicken ($7.49), Spicy Chicken ($7.49), Steak ($8), Organic Tofu ($7) or Veggie ($6.49) Step 3 - Hot Toppings Black Beans, Bean Sprouts or Potatoes Step 4 - Cold Toppings Daikon, Cucumber, Carrot, Kale, Lettuce, Corn, Cheese or Egg Step 5 - Sauces Yum Yum, Sesame Ginger, Cucmber Wasabi, Korean Red or Teriyaki You can order a side of Kimchi ($1.50) and Pineapple ($1) for extra. For my free bowl, I ordered a Rice Bowl with Spicy Chicken, Potatoes, Carrots, Kale, Corn, Daikon and Eggs with Korean Red Sauce. The Korean Red Sauce is spicy, similar to the sauce used on a typical Korean bibimbop bowl. The chicken seemed a little under cooked, otherwise the meal was just as good as what I ordered at the Bethesda location. There is a station here as well for free miso soup, unavailable for the soft opening though. The staff here are friendly and kept the line moving quickly. The line was out the door, over 100 people lined up for this soft opening. I believe the staff did a good job overall and I look forward to coming back here to give them another shot. Short version: build-a-bowl Koreanish style. Tiny shop across from Copper Canyon on the Ellsworth restaurant row. About 20 seats, all unpadded wood. Order at the counter, picking a base, protein, veggies, and sauce. The bar in the rear has soda, iced tea, and lemonade as well as the complimentary miso soup. Disclosure: I'm a fan of traditional Korean food, and this is very adapted to Western taste. So, purple rice, black beans, spicy chicken, several vegetables, "Korean Red" sauce. Not too shabby. The veggies were nice and crunchy, pickled radish spirals authenticly sweet and sour, solid kick to the gochujang. 3.5 stars for food and value, rounding up to 4 because the kimchi was very good. I've been to this Bibibop twice in 2019 and had been to other locations prior to 2019. First, I was here on Wednesday, 1/30. Due to an undulation in the Polar Jet Stream caused by a much warmer Arctic, we had extremely cold Arctic air that hit the DC area with wind chills below zero. But in spite of the extreme cold, I was determined to see an advanced movie screening of Miss Bala with a friend and meet for delicious Bibibop beforehand. It's an assembly line like a Chipotle, but better. They have a variety of delicious ingredients such as chicken, eggs, rice, beans, lettuce, & more. This is one of my favorite assembly line places out there. I visited again this past Thursday, 4/4. It was still delicious, but I was a little disappointed they were out of one of my favorite ingredients eggs. The cashier apologized. BIBIBOP in Silver Spring!! It's definitely worth the visit. Everyone at this location is so warm and welcoming. I felt like I was right at home. My bowl: purple rice, bean sprouts, black beans, potatoes, organic tofu, daikon, carrots, kale, corn, cheese and kimchi. My friend got a veggie bowl (I forget her toppings) with a mixture of purple rice and noodles. She really enjoyed hers. I didn't get any of the free Miso Soup, but I will next time. I liked that I was able to sample the tofu before getting it, which was nice. You never want to commit to everyone's tofu too early. Lol!! My favorite sauces were the Cucumber Wasabi and the Teriyaki- so much so that I accidentally over drenched my bowl! It was still good. While we were eating, one of the servers came out from behind the counter to ask us how everything was and if we needed anything else. So friendly! She even gave us some extra kimchi. If you're thinking this is the Korean version of Chipotle then you are correct. It is an Americanized bland version of Korean food to "make it your own" like Chipotle does with Mexican food. If you're craving authentic Korean food then you'd be sorely disappointed. I ordered the family pack to try a bit of everything. The protein I got, beef and chicken, was sad, unflavorful, and somewhat mealy. I thought at least the vegetables would be fresh and I got multiple sides of the bean sprouts because that's usually my favorite banchan but not only was it unseasoned, it was limp and almost to the point of being spoiled. The only way to get flavor on your bowl is to mix in a bunch of sauce of which we tried the teriyaki and yum sauce. Would I order this again? Probably not. Interesting concept but failed execution of "Korean bowls". read more

Bibibop Asian Grill, where have you been all my life? I wasn't a big fan of Shophouse, which is where the new Bibibop is located, so this place is a welcome addition. (Bibibop is taking over a lot of Shophouse's leases, and I'm glad!) Bibibop is comparable to Chipotle in terms of ordering style and price. A bowl will cost between $7-$9 (you pay for extra proteins), and a smaller bowl is also available. For build your own Bibibop, I chose the purple rice (black rice + white rice = purple rice) at the recommendation of one of the staff members. Best decision ever! Purple rice tastes just like the white rice, but it's healthier - higher in fiber, iron, antioxidants, etc. Some places charge extra for this type of rice, but not here! You can also request half and half for your base (white rice, purple rice, noodles, or salad). Next are the hot toppings - potatoes, bean sprouts, and black beans - followed by four ounces of protein (marinated chicken, spicy chicken, steak, or organic tofu). I went half marinated chicken (which is marinated in a teriyaki sauce) and half steak. Then, I got ALL of the cold toppings: lettuce, corn, kale, daikon, cucumber, carrot, cheese, eggs, and red cabbage. Full disclosure: I said "no red cabbage" but they gave it to me anyways. No complaints, though, since it made my bowl pretty. I was unsure about adding cheese to my bowl of rice, but again, I conferred with a staff member and he recommended it. What can I say except that the outcome was delicious. The cheese was placed right on top of the potatoes, and who doesn't love cheesy potatoes? They top off your bowl with different sauces, and you can mix and match. I went with the teriyaki sauce, and they also offer yum yum sauce (creamy, mayonnaise-like sauce), korean red (spicy), cucumber wasabi, and sesame ginger. Pro tip: they have self-serve pumps of all of their sauces near the soda machines so that you sample, add more, mix and match, etc. Also, free miso soup! Kudos to the energetic and pleasant staff. The first person at the counter welcomed me to the restaurant with a hearty greeting and asked me how my day was going. Every time I asked which toppings I could get, they responded with a cheery, "Of course!" Service with a smile goes a long way. The marketing street team knew their menu very well and were able to describe the different ingredients and answer any questions. My go-to place used to be Chipotle, but Bibibop is going to be my new alternative. I'll be back! read more

My boy and I shared a bowl filled with rice, beef, tofu, potatoes, and corn. I filled a portion cup with the spicy Korean red sauce (the standard sweet red pepper sauce found in bibimbop) next to the soda fountain and we went outside to find a place to sit. I was glad that we shared the bowl. It made a perfect mid morning snack. At $10 this is a great workday lunch, and buying an extra scoop of protein would make it a perfect dinner. I'll skip the tofu next time, as it was chewier than I'd like. The taste was fine, and I'd be ok with it if It was my only choice, but I'd love to see it with a lighter touch.
