Salted Caramel Gelato
Carol C.

Dinner at CAV was exquisite! The eclectic decor, food and service were impeccable. They have a nice beverage menu. Two of our foursome had OJ & rum cocktails, two of us had red wine. I had a glass of the lowest priced Cabernet Sauvignon ($11.50) and it was lovely. A basket of warm bread and whipped butter was delivered to our table with the drinks. We started with 2 orders of shrimp cocktail ($15 each). Each order had 3 huge shrimp in what tasted like a homemade cocktail sauce. The Native Point Judith Calamari ($18) was pan seared with garlic, lemon, banana peppers and basil. It had a lovely buttery flavor and was so good. My entree was the Duck Confit ($38). The seared breast was enhanced with a cranberry orange compote; the leg with a blood orange brandy demi-glace accompanied by sweet potato sage puree. The meat on the leg literally fell off the bone and was absolutely delicious. My dining companions had the Poulet aux Poires (chicken with red pears, $31), Lobster Pappardelle ($39) and 14-oz. Grilled Ribeye Steak ($49). All were delectable, and there was plenty to take home. Since we were (belatedly) celebrating my birthday, the restaurant brought me a complimentary scoop of salted caramel gelato with a candle. Nice touch!

I was here for a private event and the menu was a brunch menu...it is the perfect restaurant for a special occasion. The food is plated beautifully and tastes amazing. The atmosphere is eclectic but classy. Service is reasonably timed and the staff are on top of drinks and clearing the plates. I will definitely be returning for dinner soon!

There's a really rich food culture in RI and CAV is one of them. The food , the art filled environment with statues from all around the world and great service are all things I really appreciate and to get this all under one roof was an awesome experience! I live in NYC so I m somewhat jaded by eating out in other cities because I don't feel like there's a comparison to our rich and diverse food culture. However, this place made me question my own thoughts! Big portions too. I'll definitely be back. Go here!!!

Kickin it off with the queer o meter. A solid 10 perfect for everyone, eat drink and be merry! We went for a Sunday brunch with a friend. None of had been there in a long time and the last visit was a dinner. We enjoyed it then and we got a refresher on why. The funky decor, friendly staff and great brunch choices ranging from soups to sandwiches to omelets and more. For drinks we got a rum runner, Bloody Mary and a a coffee martini. The rum and martini were excellent. The bloody? It wasn't great, it lacked the depth and complexity I like in a good bloody. Frankly that's my only con. See the pics for the food which was all perfect. And our server was top notch. Go check it out sometime for a change of scenery and great food! Cheers!

Unsure why my photos didn't post from last review but here they are. The brunch here is phenomenal. There's free street parking. Service is always amazing. The restaurant itself is very cool with lots of eclectic pieces of art.

Had such a yummy breakfast here and can't wait to go back again. I honestly think this is one of the best brunch spots, the atmosphere is so fun (lots to look at inside) and they have a little bit of everything. Almost everyone in our party got the eggs benedict (one of our favorites here) and it was truly a 10/10. I also got belgian waffles to share but we ate those so fast I couldn't even take a picture. I never really love getting iced coffees at restaurants I feel like it never tastes right but we got a huge iced caramel latte and it was amazing. It's a great spot for events (they have a private room you can book) has plenty of seating inside and also outdoor seating options.

Wow. What an amazing ambiance- loved the decor and antiques. Came here for brunch on a Sunday to celebrate my daughter's 21st birthday. Wait staff was very attentive . Drinks were very good. We got spiked pumpkin lattes and an expresso martini. We all enjoyed our meals very much. Had reservations at 11 and was done by noon. Only con was the one bathroom- constantly a line and a wait so that was a bit aggravating.

We made a reservation here for our anniversary dinner. Inside the restaurant was eclectic, wasn't sure what to expect as we'd never been here before. But I liked it! Our server was Tom, he was great! Seems like he was serving every table on the Tuesday night but the service was still very good! We were chatting during dinner so it was nice to not have someone checking on you every 5 minutes and interrupting the conversation. I had a maple old fashioned that was very good. We got the tuna steak, bolognese, and a dinner salad. Everything was good! Serving sizes were perfect for us. We had the salted caramel gelato which was also very yummy! Would recommend visiting!

While we were visiting Providence, we made a later dinner reservation at CAV. The location is in a very quiet area and it sits back, nestled in a corner in between some buildings. The inside decor was very eclectic, but it all kind of comes together and was unique. Our server was great. We had lobster bisque and a Cesar salad to start. Then for our entrees my husband had the lobster pappardelle (so good) and I had the striped sea bass (pictured below) everything was cooked perfectly. The prices were reasonable as well. For dessert, the blackberry merlot sorbet had so much flavor and was delicious!!!

Food always on point Service was also really good. Never a dirty dish left on the table. Restaurant clean and enjoyable.

Chef Ben Sukle has received many accolades including being a James Beard Finalist so I knew we were in for a treat. Everything we ordered was so fresh, had a farm-to-table vibe, and felt very intentional. 3 different dishes had 3 different types of olive oil - that's impressive! I was blown away by the Red Shrimp Quasi Crudo. They were slightly sweet, perfectly cooked with a delicate snap, and I still got some of the roasted/grilled flavor. The Raw Scallops were so simple yet so exquisite. This is a must order along with anything on their crudo menu! The Carrot & Mascarpone Anolini was such a unique pasta and was perfectly balanced and delicious. And definitely leave room for dessert because you can't leave here without trying the Wood-Roasted Basque-Style Cheesecake. It's so creamy, borderline custardy, with a beautiful char on top and the delicate blueberries and olive oil that paired so well together. They are really using their wood-fire oven to the max and I'm here for it. What an exceptional meal; highly recommend.

The good parts: the ambiance is nice, and the food was quite tasty. My partner had the pork ($40)…read morewhich was a whole tenderloin and which he thought was delicious and good quality. My pieces were tasty but a bit fatty (hard to chew). I had the eggplant ravioli which was very rich and tasty ($28) - but so heavily sauced it was hard to tell what was what. The less good parts: the cheap wood chairs are too uncomfortable to sit on very long (I moved to the banquette next to my partner). The food is overpriced. It really needed something with it - bread, potatoes, vegetables, anything. The pork came with a few bitter leaves of a salad. I have a small appetite in general - I usually take home half my food anywhere I go. I looked at the food and said "we are going to have to go to IHOP later" because it was a light snack. The only bread available cost $12. Maybe it's amazing but I just couldn't bring myself to pay $12 for bread on principle. The food took awhile to arrive. Long enough for the server to tell us she was leaving for the night and to get up and order two drinks directly from the bar myself. The servers were nice in a way that felt somewhat forced. We are finding someplace else for dessert. I really liked my espresso martini, and that was within the price range I would expect ($13).

The first time I came, it was a rainy weekday and this time it was a sunny weekend, so I was expecting an even larger crowd; and my prediction was correct. The line was just out the door but because of their awesome staff, the line was moving very quickly. While we waited in line, we could watch them making pastries through the glass, a couple feet in front of us. I admired that level of transparency. When we were third in line, the kindest lady asked us whether we'd be eating in or taking out and she took down our name to help us find a table when it came time. She did the same for the rest of the people in line. She also gave us some recommendations, including the cinnamon bun - apparently they're so good kids cry when they sell out. I didn't intend to order anything with my drink, but I couldn't get the cinnamon bun out of my head so I ordered it along with my iced spiced chai latte. The hen (I think it's their logo) on the aprons of the employees are super cute. We did secure a table. The tables are close together to maximize the number of people who can sit down but I didn't mind. I love their art all around, mostly of birds which I am obsessed with. I love that they have a lot of natural lighting coming through their tall windows. I also like the navy blue and white theme they have going on. The chai latte was perfect. It was the right color (a dark tan), meaning the ratio of tea and milk was good and I could taste a lot of the spices. The cinnamon bun blew my expectations away. The second my teeth made. contact with the icing, it was a magical feeling. I couldn't quite put my finger on what it tasted like, but the closest I got was dulce de leche. It is truly unlike any other cinnamon bun I have ever had. The dough is soft and there is a good amount of cinnamon. It's also $4 which is not bad. I had a bite of their canelé, which apparently requires a lot of work to make. It was very moist, with a great caramelized finish. I am super excited to try their new weekend dinner menu, but also more of their all day menu items.

Rock music played not too loudly in the background as we were served and as we looked at the menu. The menu is digital. I hate this. Maybe they had a physical menu, but we didn't ask. It might seem like a small thing, but I really, really hate using my own phone to look at a restaurant's menu while at sitting at the restaurant. Anyways, I digress. For drinks, we got the chai latte (with oat milk) and coffee. We ordered the Special Eggs Benedict (half portion, for one person) and the shakshuska. The coffee was good. I appreciate the attentiveness of our server and that they came to refill the coffee. I really like the chai latte and glad that they listed which one it is (Rishi Masala Chai). The egg benedict has a really thick homemade bacon. It is soft and falls apart readily, but was a tad too salty.
