5 stars for the food and 1 star for the service. Waited 25 minutes to order, in an almost - empty restaurant. The ability of wait staff to ignore us was displayed to absolute perfection. People who came in long after us placed orders and were served before we were granted a visit by a wait person. Just getting ready to get up and walk out and ... just like that ... a waiter appeared. Once the food came, it was quite excellent indeed. The food: highly recommended. But bring a book and be ready to read it. read more

The service was good, ambiance is great and the food is also good! Parking isn't the best so give yourself time to find a spot

I went here for a special event. The location is not the best and the roads are horrible, but the restaurant is beautifully decorated, the staff were really nice and the entire event went very well. They did a great job specially decorating the room for the event, as well. There is a special parking lot for guests of this restaurant. Street parking that requires money to park is not required for patrons of this restaurant. I don't recommend the bloody mary or the burgers, but the mimosa was good and it appears everyone else really enjoyed their meals, which were mainly breakfast items. read more

All the great reviews are true! I loved it as soon as I walked in. The restaurant space has awesome decor and an eclectic ambiance. I ordered the filet mignon and it was perfectly cooked. The cocktails were also good. Our server was friendly and attentive. We will definitely return and recommend to others. read more

Romantic, classy , yummy and a great spot for brunch! You must try it once then go back!!!

What a fantastic find! Eclectic decorations and a varied menu. We stopped in for an early dinner, around 4pm on a Sunday and the place was empty. It's a very large restaurant with many tables, tucked into the corner of a little garden courtyard. Plenty of metered parking available and a handful of free spots too. The menu was fairly extensive and we got a bunch of appetizers to share. Smallish portions on the apps- good for 2-3 people to taste. Each plate was delicious!!! Prices were very reasonable, especially for the quality of food. Overall, definitely recommended! read more

It's a beautiful restaurant. And the staff is very professional. But I've been disappointed in the food lately. Went in a group of 6 and half of us were not pleased, and felt the food was tasteless. Added salt (Which I never do) and it helped, but not what I expect at this price. Drinks were good. Desserts were good. But I think I'm probably not going back. read more

It's definitely very pretty inside and tasty. But overpriced and boring. The service is attentive and prompt. He was pretty funny. The lighting is really pretty as are the tapestry that's hung around the place. There are interesting antiques as well like the wooden masks. If only the food was more impressive, It would definitely make me want to come back. We came for dinner and had sangrias all around. We started with mussels in a red curry like sauce. It was tasty and spicy. We also had warmed Brie with an apricot spread also very delicious. And calamari which tasted fine but a little bland and not crunchy. For dinner, we had duck confit, scallops with risotto, the red snapper special and shrimp pasta. Everything tasted good but each entree was around $30. The darker duck meat was tasty by the breast itself was meh. It was served with a nice sweet potato mash. The scallops and risotto was just underwhelming. The quality of the scallops was amazing they were huge but then the risotto wasn't creamy and the rice grains were kind of hard. We brought a cake and they plated it very well and cut it for us. Overall the service was really good and the atmosphere very pretty but the food is just underwhelming for the price point and decor. read more

We had the most special dinner tonight at Cav. The food was to die for, the service was exceptional, and the vibe was impeccable. The Parmesan encrusted chicken was the best piece of chicken I've ever consumed. The calamari appetizer cannot be missed. Must visit when in Providence. read more

Came here for a work event and we had the room in the back to ourselves. Absolutely love the decor in this restaurant--so quirky and vintage! For appetizers we had a cheese plate and for dinner I had the salmon with the lychee and potatoes. The salmon was very good--perfectly cooked and great flavor. I really liked the potatoes as well but thought the lychee fruit was an interesting pair! Overall, a good place for dinner for groups. read more

Went for brunch here on a recommendation. Very cute inside! Started with mimosas and had to have 2 because though simple, they were one of the best mimosas I've ever had that weren't my own creation. Ordered the poached eggs w/ applewood bacon and devoured it. The herb potatoes are a wonderful compliment to it all. Well done! read more

I've always enjoyed my meals here , the food never fails to satisfy and the service is always warm and attentive .. However they do need to work to improve on one area-- the host and his lack of customer service/ability to manage even minor setbacks . This past weekend my boyfriend took us here to celebrate my birthday. We had a Reservation for 7:45pm (I knew that due to graduation weekend a reservation was imperative). We arrived right on time and were told our table was just finishing their cocktails. 5 minutes go by, and we are told they've just received the bill and we have to wait a bit longer At the ten minute mark we are told - your table is just signing the bill now. I asked how much longer the wait would be since this was a special occasion and having to wait over 10 minutes was not how we wanted to start the night. The host basically told me "we can't just tell folks to leave the table".. and left it at that. No apology offered, nothing to even express that he understood how I felt.. I just felt like I had been told "well that's how it is, too bad." Thankfully someone must have overheard and decided to intervene to get us seated ASAP and offered to send over a complimentary beverage. I'm thankful that someone recognized the need to rectify this situation and was able to let us know that our business was valued. The main host certainly did not make any attempt to do so and basically told me "too bad, you just have to wait" The food- as always , delicious. We loved our duck, as well as the wine. Our server was very good, and definitely managed to do some good "service recovery" after the apathetic display from the host. PLEASE educate your host in the importance of compassionate and customer-centric communication. read more

This business is a must, whether you are a local or visiting the area. It is pricey however, I truly believe in "you get what you pay for" and with this business I recommend going all in. The service is always second to none and the food is melt in your mouth amazing. Kudos to the front staff and kitchen expertise and the managers who clearly define a great team and capable of delivering an outstanding dinning experience. read more

Excellent place to share a Birthday. Great service and great drinks. The entire place makes you feel warm and grand at the same time.

CAV is an absolute gem! A friend recommended the restaurant as one of their favorites in Providence and after my visit last night, I can certainly see why! The decor is a beautiful eclectic cacophony of sculpture, color, texture and light. An array of chandeliers adorn the ceiling and there are curios from around the world to feast on with your eyes. The service truly made our experience what it was. We had the pleasuring of enjoying Lauren's care during our visit and she was exemplary of all the key components that make for excellent service. She was prompt, polite, friendly and funny, she had great attention to detail and made sure we had everything we needed through the night. We enjoyed the goat cheese croquettes, chive dumplings and bruschetta which all arrived within minutes of being ordered and over delivered on flavor and taste. Wow! What a delicious array of delights to behold. We then shared the mushroom risotto which was pretty good but needed a few more pinches of salt and did not have enough risotto to match the robust serving of mushrooms. It was good but didn't quite live up to the level of execution enjoyed by the starters. The restaurant did an excellent job complying with all COVID guidelines as well! This spot is perfect for a special occasion, an intimate date or just a fun night with friends. I can't wait to return! read more

We had a lovely lunch here on the outdoor patio - super cute spot (and dog friendly!). The bruschetta with artichoke was really delicious. Came here early on a Saturday for brunch, we were the only ones here (generally not a good sign) and only one other table seated while we were there; folks - you're missing out, we had a great brunch! I had a goat cheese and caramelized balsamic onion omelette which was really good, wife had poached eggs and kids had brioche french toast and Belgian waffle, both with real maple syrup. Service was excellent, and the decor of the restaurant had us constantly looking around and pointing, practically a museum. Was a really nice brunch out with the family, nice atmosphere and excellent food. We'll be back! Food: 4 stars Service: 5 stars Ambiance: 5 stars Value: 4 stars OVERALL: 5 stars read more

Very eclectic. That's a perfect word for CAV! Antiques are everywhere! It was a party of 7, and it was great! Service was timely, and food was just as eclectic as the restaurant! They have a great drink menu(and a huge bar!) and wine list. There is also a small courtyard area(unfortunately it had rained)! I have been talking about the experience to everyone. It's great for parties, or a romantic meal. There is also a small stage for entertainment. Definitely worth a trip!! Enjoy! read more

I went to Cav this week for my boyfriends birthday dinner. I am happy to report that this place is definitely in the top 5 of providence! I booked the reservation through open table beforehand. When we arrived the restaurant was pretty open and had a lot of tables we had to wait about five minutes and were promptly seated. The inside decor was absolutely beautiful! Lots of antiques and artwork. We ordered the calamari to start. It was so delicious! It had light breading and a peppery seasoning along with some peppers. I ordered the short rib special it came with a risotto and it was beyond amazing! My boyfriend ordered the lamb shank and he loved it as well. We got the fruit tart to finish off and it was delicious. The service was great as well. Our server was friendly and virtuous the entire time. Looking forward to heading back again. read more

I love the CAV. Been going here for years and it's just a great spot. Unique, cool. Great food and service. Total package.

This restaurant was so cute! My family and I were visiting Providence and came here for brunch. The first thing I noticed about the restaurant was the decor, it was very unique and interesting in a good way. I really liked the atmosphere. We were seated quite quickly after we arrived as we had a reservation. The menu had a lot of options and they all looked amazing. We decided to get the French Toast A la CAV to share because it looked so good. It was great, definitely very sweet but so yummy. I got the goat cheese omelette as my entree and it was amazing, so fluffy and the onions inside were caramelized wonderfully. I would definitely recommend this restaurant! The service was a little slow but once the food came out it was worth it. read more

AMAZING! Came here for brunch while we were in town and it was good we wish we could come back. The crab cake was probably the best I ever had - it had a pistachio crust, sriracha aioli and sooooo much meat! My boyfriend got the salmon bagel and he was also very impressed by the portion and quality. Service and ambiance were also great. Only thing we didn't like is that the coconut shrimp only came with two pieces, literally one bite and we were done. For $6, it would've been nice if we had more. read more

Absolutely love this place; love the decor and all the antique. I like that they let us pick where we wanted to sit so I chose right up by the stage. Our waiter was also great and knew everything on the menu. To start, we ordered.. Pomegranate Martini - very good with just the right amount of alcohol. Truffle fries - not bad but didn't really notice the truffle. Calamari - we loved this. They were pan seared and plump. So yummy! For our entrees... I ordered the Lobster meat and sweet peas w/ Pappardelle Pasta. Wow, this was delicious. The sauce was rich and creamy. I can't wait to go back just for this. The only minor issue was that the lobster was a little overcooked but the portion of lobster meat was perfect. He ordered the Filet Mignon in Sauce Bordelaise and Grilled Asparagus. He loved the steak and didn't want to kill the taste with anything else so he strictly ate just that after one asparagus, which needed to be cooked longer. On a side note (and this does not change my feelings about going back) was that he got sick after and had a small case of food poisoning. I'm guessing from the steak because I was fine. I don't eat steak at all so I didn't take a bite. Will definitely go back on a Wednesday (when the band plays) and try something else! read more

Why did it take Restaurant Weeks 2016 to get me to CAV? Meals: Delicious. Beautifully presented. Well-portioned. Served promptly. We opted away from the RW menu and chose Sesami Hajaki Tuna and Diver Sea Scallops, along with a Goat Cheese Croquette appetizer. The entrees were perfect in every way; the tuna a particular joy, seared well, warm and pink throughout. I would skip the appetizer next time. It was seasoned well, but otherwise unremarkable. I was surprised to see that bread was offered upon seating. Maybe my old lady vibes are showing, but I thought that was a nice, welcome touch. Service: The staff was gracious, knowledgeable, and accommodating. The host/check in area is a bit hectic; we had a 7:45 reservation, were informed by the host that we'd be seated promptly, and then left alone in the entryway for about 20 minutes with four other couples. Later in the evening, the same host noticed that my water glass was cracked, and brought complimentary Limoncello (and a lovely story) to the table. The restaurant was incredibly busy, and the fact that he stopped over and checked on us was, again, a ice touch. Ambiance: A mix of Mary Poppins' carpet bag and a Tuscan courtyard. It's funky and eclectic, warm, and well (flatteringly?) lit. Very intimate and romantic. There are mirrors suspended from the ceiling and resting against every available wall: perfect for selfies, checkin' that profile, and of course, catching glimpses of all of the interesting decor. All in all, a very nice experience. Well worth the price and a second visit. read more

CAV Restaurant - New American Near Me - Providence, Rhode Island

How to review my experience at CAV? Walking in, there were several staff at the door, none of which seemed happy (which was a fairly consistent theme throughout the meal). Our waiter was probably the only one that didn't have an "I have nothing but contempt for customers" face/attitude, so count us lucky?! We started with a Sophia salad for two, which was delightful. A great portion size, tons of cranberries, light dressing, my wife and I enjoyed it. They did overcharge us for it by a $1, but who (besides me) is counting? My wife ordered the mushroom risotto entree, I ordered the black truffle ravioli. We both thought the risotto would have mushrooms mixed in, but it was just cheesy risotto in a mushroom/broth. It was tasty, just not exactly what we were expecting. We both felt the dish needed a little something else, to break up the flavor a bit, and risotto sitting in a bowl of sauce/broth made it a bit soggy toward the end. The black truffle ravioli was good, but similarly, the ravioli itself was missing a little something (a bit bland), though the truffle sauce and turnip was very good. We split a prickly pear cocktail, and it was very good. Our waiter was friendly and relatively attentive. Overhearing the other staff mock patrons of the restaurant is very disappointing, as well as one of the staff asking our waiter if we paid for our meal as we were leaving. Stay classy CAV, stay classy... read more

I visited for the first time during restaurant week for lunch. I was surprised at the amount of patrons inside of the restaurant because from the outside it doesn't appear to be much and is tucked away in a quiet part of town. They were pretty busy upon my arrival but i was seated within minutes. The service was surprisingly quick and my waiter was very attentive. I ordered the mesclun greens, black angus bacon gorgonzola burger and raspberry sorbet from the prix fixe menu. One word, obsessed! The second I walked into CAV I fell in love. I just loved the decor and atmosphere there, it is really hard to beat! I recently reached out to them about possibly having my rehearsal dinner there I am so obsessed, and their private dining area is gorgeous. We went with a bottle of wine for the table and I really appreciated the variety of options as well as the variety of prices. We had no problem finding an affordable bottle that we all agreed on. I went with their hand cut rolled pasta with ricotta, in a shallot cream sauce. The finace went with the duck two ways dish and ate every bite of it. He preferred the duck breast portion while my friend Laura T who got the same dish preferred the bbq-ish leg. The pear chicken dish was also ordered at the table and was raved about. Basically there was not one thing that we would have changed as far as entrees go. Although the dessert menu looked impressive we all had so many desserts left over from Christmas that we decided to pass. The service was great as well. They have a free parking lot directly across from the restaurant, you really can't beat that in downtown Providence! read more

We loved everything about CAV. The ambiance, music and staff (who all have a great spirit and are very welcoming) were all on point. My husband got the calamari appetizer and I got a cup of the clam chowder. Both were excellent and had surprisingly delicious seasoning. For dinner I got the Parmesan encrusted chicken, it was perfection. My husband got the risotto, which made me wonder if there is something more perfect that perfection. I'm torn as to what I will get next time we go to CAV. Maybe we will just share again since everything is excellent. I love their Lemon Drop Martini - another home-run! Bravo CAV - you are top-notch! read more

I've been to CAV several times and loved it every time. Recently I went for my birthday and was treated to one of the best dining experiences I've ever had. Our waitress (whose name I believe was Jennifer) was a pro at her job-- funny and engaging without being invasive, and gave us just the right level of attentiveness without making us feel either stifled or ignored. The food was wonderful as usual, and our table was perfectly cozy-- armchairs to sit in, enough space that we didn't feel like we were on top of any other table-- just lovely. I can understand how CAV's eclecticness isn't for everyone, and during restaurant week and other times that they're very busy, things can get hectic. But to me CAV and their staff always fall on the right side of the divide between "waitstaff are only human and sometimes make mistakes" versus "don't know what they're doing and don't care about their jobs". CAV is one of my favorite restaurants in Rhode Island, and I'll continue to recommend them to anyone and everyone who asks. Also-- the brie appetizer with the walnuts and jam? To DIE for. ;) read more

Unique decor. Unique restaurant. I've mostly been here for work functions since it's so close by. They throw a mean holiday party that impresses me each year. As for the food, salads are a good bet. The poached pear entree is often well liked. Duck confit is solid, too. Reasonable prices for lunch with big portions. Consistently good service, if a bit slow. read more
