Everything was fantastic! The food was superb. The ambiance was classy and inviting. The service was impeccable. I want to send a special thank you to Matt, Chris, and Andy for making our experience special. This restaurant is a 10 out of 10. I will definitely return.
Went for a business End-Of-Year party -- was wowed by the servers and bar staff. Food was scrumptious and the drinks were made to perfection! The atmosphere felt amazingly personal, relaxing as authentic. Both a coat check and valet parking were offered at no cost at this gorgeous restaurant. Highly recommend for a date night!
We brought my daughter and her husband here to celebrate her passing an important professional exam! Our waiter could not have been a better guy! Entertaining, attentive, and frankly pretty funny! Plus, he loves his dogs, just like us! Ha ha ha. Our steaks were cooked perfectly! I had the Chicago and my son-in-law had the Kansas City and we both loved them. Does Caesar was fun to watch being prepared, but a little bit too salty unfortunately. But that's OK because everything else was just great.!! I will say that we were flabbergasted that there was hardly anybody there on a Thursday evening. I understand it gets pretty crowded on the weekends and so if I were going to go back again, I would definitely go on a Thursday!
The Caucus Club was a restaurant I discovered while doing research to figure out where my friends and I should go out for a dude's night out. I got there earlier than them to survey the dining room, and I was very much excited for what was to come. Beyond tables and chairs, they have a beautiful full service bar and live band with private rooms if needed. I found all the staff to be extremely courteous and welcoming despite the fact most of them were not directly attending to me or my friend's needs. The food from beginning to end was just amazing. The Caesar salad was made right in front of us tableside, so the freshness of the ingredients really came through. Not everything pictured in my review was ordered by me, but I did get to try most of it and nothing really disappointed us. Everything was seasoned perfectly, the meats were cooked to our liking, and the sides were easily shareable and complimented all our main dishes. My only real complaint was with the "Oscar Style' steak enhancement. It was some crab meat with asparagus spears and a creamy sauce. I didn't feel it had much sauce or moisture, and the crab itself was rubbery and added nothing to my ribeye. If anything it only distracted from the beautiful flavors of the beef. I felt as if the zip sauce my friends got for their steaks was a better option, so in the future I will know to avoid the Oscar Style. Beyond this minor hiccup the entire dinner experience was fantastic. I cannot wait to come back, but just know that you will probably spend $150+ dollars individually depending on how you divide the bill and how many drinks you get. Also don't skip out on dessert, as they are all home runs in my opinion.
Exceptional steakhouse with a swanky and chill interior atmosphere - Sasha Bernstein, a master improviser of a musician I got the chance to meet, does an amazing job on the piano - and also excellent steak (got the NY Ribeye) plus vegetable side dishes like their glazed carrots. Service was also amazing, Jay was an incredible server, hyper attentive and took care of my every need. Highly recommended the Caucus Club as an unforgettable dining experience you will have in Downtown Detroit!
Let me preface by saying we are very accustomed to dining out, numerous local restaurants, such as the Whitney,big rock chop Italian chop house, 220 Merrill, Mabel and grey, and other nice places such as Eddie V and Oceans Prime. Had high expectations for dinner as the Caucus club came recommended so booked it for Valentine's Day with $100 deposit. Service was mediocre, started with server saying she's swamped with many tables and that's why she was late getting to us. Keep calling me young man, not sir or the gentleman etc. Appetizer and drinks were on point tuna tartare was delicious. Filet was ordered medium and came rare, server said the it was medium and it was not. Server said she picked largest scallops for my date and they were average size, not large by any standards. Glazed Brussels sprouts and butternut squash was delicious as was the butternut squash risotto, twice baked potato was anticlimactic. Desserts were ok, chocolate torte and key lime pie. Presentation on desserts was lacking, pretty plain Had ordered a 3rd dessert and server forgot it, fortunately wasn't billed for it. Only 1 time did server come by to refill our waters, and our bar drinks were empty for sometime before we were asked if we wanted 2nd round which we declined. Bill came, and didn't add up, there was -100 for the deposit and then a -70 that didn't factor into the bill at all which is confusing. Just very disappointing for a valentines dinner for 2 with an $77 tip and a total bill of $430 with OK service, OK food not outstanding, and a valet service where 3 other couples who came out after we did were delivered their cars before us totaling a 20 minutes wait. Would not recommend the Caucus Club. Place had nice ambiance, decor and good music, but the food and service just does not match the price point. Dinner for 4 at the Highland at Ren Cen with drinks and desserts, outstanding service and better quality food was $650. Caucus club seems to be surviving off of a reputation that it no longer deserves.
Highly recommend for a nice night out. They have nice jazz music playing as well as a live piano player. The service we got from our waiter Darryl was the best! Loved my ribeye steak. Wish I took more photos but also enjoyed the fried calamari, Mac and cheese and mashed potatoes as well!
Oysters Rockefeller, paparadelle bolognese, peach crisp, lovely cocktails. All so darned delicious. But the star of the show was my server, Shelly. She helped me pick a meal suitable for a single diner and boy am I glad I listened. It was the perfect meal. I'm sure all the servers are outstanding, but if you can get Shelly you won't regret it.
Staff are attentive, engaged and knowledgeable. At-table Caesar salad was entertaining and delicious. Scallops are always tricky but the risotto and fried prosciutto- perfection. Had to sample the holiday drink "Jack Frost." Smooth layering made me want 2 more.
I got the steak and mashed potatoes which were great! I will say the mashed potatoes were probably the best part of the meal, they were seasoned very good. I got my steak medium rare and is was cooked pretty close to that. I wasn't too much of a fan of the Brussel sprouts to be honest. The inside of the restaurant is very nice, and there was a pianist playing. It has pretty dim lighting. The service is fast as well!
I think from now on, Sunday will be the day to feel like you're totally being catered to. No other voices heard except the staff. That was wonderful!! Well, the jazz that was being played too. That set the mode for me. Service and food was chefs kiss * I will absolutely return to dine here. P.S. ask for a tour of this classic gem.

My boyfriend took me there for my birthday and it was such a treat. We started with the Rockefeller oysters and my boyfriend had an old fashioned. He enjoyed his drink and ordered 2 of them. He had an 8oz filet mignon with mashed potatoes and I had the blackened salmon. Everything was delicious and service was great. We ended with a coffee and a chocolate torte. The chocolate cake was ok nothing to die for. The steak was amazing and tasted like butter. I'm excited to celebrate more occasions there and will keep trying different dishes. Best meal and service in Detroit! I was visiting Detroit for the first time for a wedding and was very impressed by the service at caucus club from the coat check person to the bussers. The waiter was not only very efficient, but knowledgeable and friendly as well. I chose steak since this is a steak house, and it was perfectly seasoned and cooked to my preference of bleu (very very rare). Even the sides of Brussel sprouts and mashed potato were perfectly done. They didn't have élit vodka, but they had so many other top shelf brands that I had no trouble choosing a substitute. If you only eat at one place in Detroit, eat here! read more
Fantastic spot! Classy, upscale, romantic! The music is perfect to help set the mood. Service is stellar! Antonio was our waiter and he was the best! He gave us an Italian charm! The staff in general was welcoming from beginning to end! Food, the food was phenomenal, it truly was. When you come here it is not just to eat, but the whole experience, you come for the experience. There is a dress code, business casual. Parking is nearby and there is valet! Highly recommend Caucus Club for a great dining experience in Detroit! read more
THE BEST DINNER WE HAVE EVER HAD IN DETROIT! Alan was an amazing server and treated us so so well!!! We had an absolutely amazing dinner and loved EVERYTHING! Our tartar was the best we've ever had... and we've had a lot! The table side Caesar was so delicious. It was so lemony, garlicky, and herby! The French onion had the THICKEST coat of cheese is was insanely good. The lobster bisque was a little saltier, but that's a lobster bisque for you and it was still 9/10! THE MAC AND CHEESE IS A MUST. Our Kansas City was cooked perfectly especially being it was a thick cut! We got zip sauce too, and it was the best zip ever. I first came here for the Auto Show Charity Preview in 2019 and had a great (crowded, fun, loud) experience. I have wanted to come back since then for a "normal dining experience" and now that COVID has eased up a bit and we're vaccinated, it was time to check it out for an anniversary dinner. My first advice - please dress up. People who wandered in off the street in shorts or jeans really looked out-of-place. The sign on the door says business casual or better, and it helps the ambiance if everyone respects that, even if they don't technically kick you out or refuse service. We showed up half an hour early (6pm) because we wanted to sit at the bar and try a cocktail. The bartender was an absolute delight - I can't remember the name of the bourbon drink I tried, but it was excellently prepared and presented, and strong enough that I didn't need wine with dinner. I hardly set down my empty water glass (parched from a Riverfront walk in the 84 degree weather) before the bartender refilled it. First-class service. We moved to the dining room close to our reservation time and were promptly seated. I was surprised it wasn't packed at 6:30pm on a Saturday night! (Although it was almost packed by the time we left at 7:30pm) We were famished, having skipped lunch because we had a list of things we wanted to try. We split the lobster bisque and an order of calamari. Both were amazing. The bisque had pieces of lobster, was decadent and creamy, and salty without being overpowering. I would order it again in a second. The calamari was a generous portion for the price, soft and flash-fried, with a delicious caper-based sauce. My entree was lake perch. I know this is primarily a dry-aged steak restaurant, but I'm trying to limit my red meat intake and lake perch is my favorite seafood of all time, so I had to go with it. The presentation was phenomenal (my photo doesn't even do it justice), and the flavors were fantastic. If I were to list qualms, neither of which is worthy of deducting a star, it's that the caper-lemon-butter sauce was almost identical to what was on the calamari, so I got a repeat of some of the same flavors, and the haricots verts (fancy speak for green beans) needed seasoning/salt. My partner ordered crème brûlée and it was fantastic. The server, John, was friendly, charismatic, full of information about the menu, and checked on us with just the right frequency. One mark of a well-oiled machine is that all courses show up just when you start to wonder about them, and this was true with Caucus Club. The live music was great! Piano player and a singer who could scat sing. Nice gentle background for our delicious dinner. It's a pricey dinner. But if you didn't know that, why are you on their page? We spent about $120 for dinner (with 2 appetizers & dessert), and $180 total including drinks and tips. I think the experience-to-cost ratio was about right, so no complaints there. The next time I am fortunate enough to find myself downtown with the right attire, I plan to revisit Caucus Club and try one of their steaks. read more
Stepping into the Caucus Club is like stepping into a time machine, and there's a good reason for that. The Penobscot building where the restaurant is located was built in 1927. Stepping in off the street, you go through a revolving door. There is hardly anybody here, which isn't hard to believe. Besides being a relic from a bygone age, there's nothing at the street level to draw you in. And, that's a real shame. There is really a lot to like about this place. Everything is immaculate. There is an army of smartly-dressed workers to attend to your every need. Jazz plays over the speakers. It all works to transport you back to the 1950s. As for the food, know this: butter is your friend. Any vegetable you get will be swimming in it. The mashed potatoes are nicely buttered. The dauphinoise potatoes are a glorious symphony of Parmesan cheese and butter. And, you start out with freshly baked bread - still steaming hot - and a side of butter. The lobster bisque is thick and creamy and nicely seasoned, but had only two tiny flecks of actual lobster. The Scottish salmon has a gorgeous bourbon glaze, but the rice with walnuts is an acquired taste. It seemed overly sweet at first, but we grew to like it. The halibut is perfectly cooked and seasoned, but a bit on the small side. The buttery vegetables are a nice compliment, however. Prices are steep for the cocktails; my wife got a beautiful drink that set us back $14. Beer was reasonable, however, ranging from $6 to $8 a pint. If you're looking for somewhere you can slow things down a bit, where you can take that special someone for a wonderful dining experience, then this is the place. read more

The atmosphere at this place is second to none. Jazzy. Low key. Perfect for a date night. The food, leaves a lot to be desired. More on the pricey side but everything seemed just mediocre. From the tuna tartare, steaks, ribs, and even the fish fingers dish that the server highly recommended. I would go here for a pre dinner drink in the future. read more

Food and service were both extremely excellent! And would have given 5 stars if not for the call I got previously to my evening. The employee warned me about the dress code and we did wear a suit & tie my wife wore a dress. And to my amazement and complete disappointment more than one couple came in wearing jeans shirt hanging out. If you're going to have a dress code then enforce it or don't have one! The owner liked the review but didn't address the issue. $$$ means more than customer satisfaction. Dress however you want to go here.... read more
Nice upbeat piano accompaniment for our meal tonight. The paper menu is ours to keep. We were seated at a half booth on the back wall. Karen is waiting on us. She seems pleasant and is double masked, has a cool and shiny, blingy silver mask. I started with a mojitoesque mocktail, goat cheese truffle, table side Caesar, half oysters on the half shell, lobster bisque, calamari, crab cakes and blackened Scottish salmon is what we ordered for our meal tonight. The warm bread was out shortly after our apps and starters were ordered. It's chewy, soft and billowy and tasty, carb worthy for sure. The 3 goat cheese balls, toast point and salads is delicious. The dressing and salad is refreshing, slightly tart from the vinaigrette dressing. The lobster bisque is creamy, delicate, flavorful and beautiful. I also like the hint of chive garnish too. The tableside Caesar salad was average, dressing is a bit flat, bland and not enough bite from the lemon, may have been better with some achovies, shot of hot sauce or worchestershire even. The salad wasn't worth the $28 for the two of us. The romaine lettuce leaves are a bit brown and burnt too. Karen asked how the salad was. I told her it was okay, that the dressing is bland and the lettuce is brown too. She replied oh. The east coats oysters are clean, smooth and lovely. This was my favorite part of my meal. The calamari is nicely flash fried, slightly chewy, sauce is a bit tart and refreshing. The breading a bit heavy but not bad. I do love the capers, it adds a unique taste and balance. The Scottish salmon was perfectly cooked, the rainbow Swiss chard is a nice meal balance too. The crab cakes were quite good, crispy and crab filled. Would have liked a more flavorful sauce than the tomato based sauce. Even the sauce for the calamari sauce tastes better to me than what it came with. The food was good, minus the Caesar, the service here is absolutely fantastic, from start to finish. read more

Some of the food was salty. The service was quick and friendly. Very nice ambiance. But overall it comes to good food. Food was not worth it! I will continue to go with The Whitney! The Whitney has the best lobster I have ever tasted!! read more
Always an outstanding experience at the Caucus Club. Fantastic waitstaff. The food is consistent and always wonderful. We had the Burrata Caprese. Such a refreshing appetizer that's incredibly fresh. We also enjoyed the Oysters Rockefeller. A classic that you just cannot go wrong with. I enjoyed the salmon as my entree. It was perfectly cooked and seasoned. A side of macaroni was terrific. Cheesy, comforting and fresh - just as it should be. For dessert, a warm cappuccino - served with sugar cubes! A nice touch. A pianist plays in the background as you enjoy the classy atmosphere paired with a terrific experience. Great for a date, special occasion in the dining room, or just an evening out with some friends, where you can hang out at the bar. read more

It is our anniversary! My husband called for reservations at 5Pm for reservations, which he was told they were not taking any...just come. We arrived at 7:30 the hostess said everyone is in the bar to which I asked for a table. The bar is so loud you can hear all the FU comments clearly. We were seated, then shortly thereafter two more tables of two , then table of five. Service is great! One waiter politely juggling when four tables within 5-10mins of each other! Darryl was polite! Interesting when bake potato arrives when you are halfway through the ribs. Wow! Best app in the city Tuna! Amazing French onion soup! All their soups are amazing! Bar is still going strong in how loud they overshadowed a quiet restaurant! At 9pm the valet walked up with out keys asking to to paid since he was going home. This is a first in fine dining. I can hear the guy in the bar talking about his his ducking trees, and his landscaping at his house that is only an hour away . He loves living there, but the island, the train, the bridge opens up, some rich xxckrr has a yAtch. Really should I add more the conversation....someone loud who needs to let everyone know! Really ruins a Happy Anniversary. I usually really enjoy this place. Words of wisdoms....valet should never approach for keys....turn up your music to drown out your bar area. When chef came out to ask how everything was....I said great service, excellent food, horrible atmosphere! They could have turned up music, they can control valet, baked potatoes after dinner ???? Chef adjust for valet, and credited half baked potato. Do not attempt to celebrate your Anniversary or Birthday because it is only special to yourself. read more

Yes that is fine; i'd recommend a darker pair ... I always prefer to be overdressed than under. There will be folks in suits and dresses and then you'll have people who just wandered off the street as a tourist or something in normal clothes
