Scotty's Cafe came recommended by my wife's OSU colleague Isaac and it did not disappoint on two family visits. First time my wife and daughter stopped before our daughter headed overseas for two years in the Peace Corps. Scotty''s is super close and convenient to the airport. Scotty learned of the imminent departure and came with cookies and treats for the long flight! And now this morning it was another airport drop off. It was my turn, dining alone but nothing about a table for one at Scotty's is lonely. The staff are immediately welcoming and every customer is every employee's charge. Four different people helped me or just checked in. The Gina breakfast combos have lots to offer for breakfast. But I was thrilled this 9:30 am to be assured the whole menu was available. I was looking for something less common and was excited to see potato latkes with sour cream and apple sauce as an option. That would have been great but then the waitress (Salome maybe) said, "Do you like corned beef?" The Schmoozer is 3 enormous latkes with thinly shaved and lightly grilled corn beef on top with an over easy egg atop that. Seriously, I can declare victory for finding something I'd never had before. Never would have found it without the nudge. Had to cut myself off with all the coffee offers. Just a great vibe. You rarely see a 4.9 rating and even more rarely that high based on so many reviews. But I understand why - like in so many things in life, it is about the people. And the joy they bring to every conversation. And I will just add, in this age when some would divide us, this dining room is filled with all manner of folks, reveling together over food in fellowship. read more

WOW!!!! All I have to say. The staff? AMAZING. Okay wow I was a Scotty's virgin until yesterday (if you say this in the restaurant, you will get called out on it lol), but my only regret is waiting so long to finally make it to this cafe!! They have breakfast and lunch all day every day, and Gina came over to explain the menu to me and give me a run down on their most popular dishes. Scotty himself walks around greeting all of the guest and even had the whole cafe sing happy birthday to someone dining in. He seems to know everyone and greets you like an old friend. We had a reservation for our large party and we had two servers take care of our table. Food comes out insanely fast, like I had just placed my order and the rest of the table was still ordering and my food was already on its way over. It has to be one of the top famous places to eat in central Ohio with big servings of food at inexpensive prices. Saw this place on Yelp that averaged five stars with several hundred reviews (which is very rare and I think this is the only place as such in the area) prior to me and my wife visiting my dad in Columbus and we told him about it and decided to check it out for brunch before we flew back on MLK day. As they run a successful catering business on weekends, they are only open 8-2 Monday through Friday. The place was pretty packed being a holiday, but they did have a table for us. My dad and I each ordered The Zaftig which are half sized roast beef, corned beef, and turkey. Zaftig is used to describe a curvy person but it is also the name of a famous Jewish deli in Boston we may try this summer and I am just seeing that there is a brewing company in the Columbus area with that name. My wife had the Gina's Jewish omlette with smoked salmon. All of our food was wonderful and is on par with the great Jewish delis on the east coast we have tried but for a better value. To drink I had Dr. Brown's Cream Soda and my wife had a coffee which were also great. I think the best feature of the restaurant are the owners that talked to us and the other diners. Not sure if I am correct, but it looks like their names are Scotty and Gina. They are so friendly and treat you like family even if they meet you for the first time. I don't think we have ever dined in a restaurant or gone to a business where the staff makes you feel quite that way. I was also wearing a Baltimore Ravens shirt the day after the Cincinnati Bengals narrowly beat them. A guy from a nearby table came up to me and told me he was sorry and that the Ravens played a good game. The lady at the ticket counter at the airport told me the same thing. We highly recommend Scotty's Cafe. Came down on a work trip did some internet searching and found this wonderful family owned and operated gem. We both ordered the Gina breakfast which was fabulous. My favorite is the grits and they were the best! Everything was cooked to perfection and service by Rick was awesome. We were treated like family by Gina and Scotty. They brought us French toast, waffles and the best award winning tomato basil soup. A must for anyone wanting the small town family experience with great food. We've been trying eat here for 2 years their closed on weekends, we're 100 miles away but it finally worked out. We had breakfast it was very good, awesome pancakes.
