She offered to bring us a basket of bread, which was huge and delicious, for which we weren't charged with our meal. When we were done eating, she offered to bring us a bag so we could take the rest of the bread home, so we had it for breakfast. My Cobb salad was outstanding, with uniform pieces that were easy to mix, and server brought a generous serving of dressing and said to ask if I wanted more. We were seated immediately at 11am when they opened, very nice hostess. The Server admitted she was fairly new and we admitted we hadn't been there in about a year so needed a few minutes. She was patient and very friendly. Our food was brought out pretty fast and was hot and very delicious. We had the chicken fried chicken and the crispy chili relanois (spelling?). Well, I have to say that this has been my biggest letdown in recent memory. This place has an awesome atmosphere and is very busy so naturally I thought "this place will be great". My wife and I ordered the "famous fried chicken" just to find it extremely dry and very underwhelming. My friend ordered the turkey dinner that appeared to be at least two days old. The one redeeming quality regarding the food was the green chili. The chicken noodle soup like the rest of the food left a lot to be desired. I really wish this place was better. What a great location and atmosphere but they appear to be resting on the laurels. We also had great service for about half of our time there. Somewhere in the middle, our waitress appeared to forget she had us as a table. Even though she was very friendly every time we spoke she became incredibly absent in the second half of our time there. I find it very hard to give a any place a one star but I feel this almost deserves it simply because my expectation was so high. At 4:30pm on Sunday at Castle cafe in Castle Rock, I went to eat with my mom and my two boys 2 years old and 11month old. Sitting there eating, something scared my youngest and he screamed and cried for about 10-15 seconds like babies do. Shortly after, my mom and I were talking and a man comes over to the table and says "if your child continues to cry, you're going to need to take him outside or something, he's bothering other customers." Remind you it was in the 30's outside. He had cried one time the entire time we were there! He's a baby! He's also developmentally delayed. Come to find out the man was the OWNER of the restaurant. I was appalled. I was visibly upset over the situation and we didn't even get to eat our meal because the man asked us to leave for telling him how we felt. We paid the bill, not eating and left per his request. I've never in my life had someone be so disrespectful over an innocent child. I am a military spouse and new to the area, having a very tough month without my husband with us and if this guy only knew how much we've been thru. Just putting this out there so that other people don't end up in the same situation we were in. And to reply to the owner, my son wasn't even crying when you walked over. He had cried ONE time since we were there. No profanities we're spoken, just that we had never been disrespected so bad in our life. You still accepted payment for a meal we weren't aloud to eat and won't return the phone call and message I had left for you yesterday about a refund. Some of the best fried chicken around. Although I do like the crispy skin from popeyes better, the flavor of the Castle Cafe chicken(meat) itself is better than Popeyes. Popeyes usually fries their chicken in bad oil and has a ton of crappy ingredients, so castle cafe is much healthier option. Their chicken tastes like its fried in much better oil. BBQ ribs were pretty solid. A bit over smoked but good flavor and mostly tender. Some of it was a little over cooked. Better than a lot of BBQ restaurants around town. Good sides. Great rolls. The decor is cool and it's history awesome. The service was a little slow - they were busy but still slower than expected. The food was average. I don't think it was worth the price. Okay y'all, we're entering a recession so I'm going to start including our experiences of eating out while Black. A colleague and I were looking at a place to eat in between Denver and Colorado Springs. We picked this spot off of Yelp. I got there first. Everyone was really friendly. We decided to eat outside even thought it was hot. Our waitress was awesome. Super nice. Gave great recommendations. She gave us permission to move the umbrellas so we could eat in the shade. The other people eating outside were nice as well. The food came out hot. The queso and rolls were probably our favorite. Their famous fried chicken was good but not the best we've had. My colleague got a local beer on tap and loved it. The price wasn't bad and seemed fair for what we got. All of the employees were awesome. And there was a puppy water bowl out if you wanted to bring your pup. Overall we were comfortable throughout our stay and never once felt awkward. Even as people walked by, we didn't feel out of place. Overall food was decent and we could be our normal Black selves sitting outside laughing and eating for a few hours.
