My Takeaway Apex delivers on availability and technical competence when you're in a crisis. However, I'd strongly recommend getting multiple quotes if time permits, as their emergency pricing appears significantly above market rate. The convenience of immediate service came at a steep premium that I wasn't prepared for. Would I use them again? My AC condensation pipe was completely backed up and needed to be flushed. Their tech arrived on time and seemed very professional, spending about an hour and a half working on the unit and inspecting everything inside and out. However, he couldn't find where the evaporator line exited the house. His solution? Install an external pump and run a whole new drain line. The rough estimate for that was, well, a hell of a lot more than the $15 fee they charged me just to come out and take a look. When he left, I still had the exact same broken AC, was stressing over an exorbitant bill to fix it, and somehow found out I'd been signed up for a $15-a-month service plan that entitled me to another check-up in six months just in time for winter. Hoping to just get it resolved, I reached out to Service Wizard via Yelp later that evening to see if they could come back today to do the work the tech recommended. I never got a response. Frustrated, I called a different AC company. They actually answered the phone, sent technicians out right on time today, and those guys spent **five minutes** at my house before finding the external line, repairing it, and flushing my system. Problem completely solved in under five minutes, and the fee was incredibly cheap compared to the massive quote I got from Service Wizard. I will definitely be canceling my $15-a-month contract with Service Wizard and won't be recommending them going forward. Save yourself the headache and call someone else!

Several years ago, Airco installed a 3-ton variable-speed system in a house that had previously had a 2-ton unit (and a history of trouble keeping cool). After about a year of operation, our tenants reported mold in the ducts, high humidity, and a short-cycling unit. Our investigation found that the installer, Stuart, had never pulled a permit for the work. I want to be candid: it took a negative Yelp review to get Airco's attention. Jeremy reached out, recommended we upsize the ductwork, offered a very fair price, and agreed to close out the permits. I'm slow to trust, so I got second and third opinions from other HVAC companies -- they confirmed the system size was correct for the house, and that the ductwork should have been upsized at the original install. My own Manual J calculations agreed with Jeremy's. Notably, Jeremy was the only installer I could find who was actually willing to run a Manual J. He also followed through on pulling permits and getting the city inspection scheduled. Airco worked to schedule the new duct installation during the one week we'd be in town -- during peak season, no less -- and their crew moved fast and stayed professional, which I appreciated given how brutal a Texas attic is this time of year. A few days in, the system is no longer short-cycling, and indoor humidity has dropped to about 63%. Still a touch higher than ideal, but we think we can chase the rest of it down -- possibly window seals, possibly fan settings or duct leakage. I was impressed enough that I also used Airco for a plumbing call this week.

I was told I would hear from the contractor within 24 hours. Late Friday evening, I received a text from the technician asking if a Saturday appointment window of 10:00 AM-1:00 PM would work, and I confirmed immediately. Saturday came and went with no arrival, no call, and no update. By 2:00 PM, I had attempted to contact the technician several times before finally receiving a response that he was still on another job. He ultimately arrived around 3:00 PM and completed the visit. I understand that delays happen, especially in the HVAC industry during busy seasons. My frustration wasn't that the technician was running behind--it was the lack of communication throughout the day. A quick text letting customers know you're running late can go a long way and helps people plan their day accordingly. The service itself ended up being fine, but the communication and customer experience could definitely use improvement. Hopefully this feedback helps future customers and encourages better communication when schedules change.

A-US showed up the next day, replaced a capacitor, and rolled out before testing anything. I called AHS because the unit still was not cooling after replacement. they sent them back out, the guy that showed up second seemed really helpful. he tried to add freon and the pressures wouldnt change. he went to the attic and found a massive leak in the unit. he told AHS I needed a new indoor and outdoor unit. a WEEK later, they were out to replace the unit. it didnt go well. the tech spent about 3 hours trying to get this fancy unit to connect to the fancy thermostat. glad they upsold me on junk. after that, he gave up, left a note that the thermostat needed replaced. fast forward to the next morning, new tech shows up, troubleshoots it to a bad thermostat, LEAVES TO GO GET A THERMOSTAT!!! 3 hours later, shows up, replaces it, it connects, AC starts working finally. the note said it was a bad thermostat and he wasted 5 hours because he didnt bring one with him. Also, my thermostat is still just hanging by the wires today, a week and a half later, because they didnt have a backplate. Now, less than a week later, it can't connect to the unit again, and my upstairs is over 90 degrees inside. called on Wednesday, they hoped to be out Thursday, but made an appointment Friday just in case. These guys have the nerve to send a text Thursday late (5:15pm) when they close at 5, telling me they have to cancel my appointment and move me to Monday. They absolutely suck. First would be dont get AHS, but if you do, try to have them use someone else for AC before A-US. this has been an awful awful awful experience. A-US doesnt deserve the 1.8 stars it has on yelp.

I basically knew what the issue was, (a bad capacitor), but they did their due diligence and checked both the indoor and outdoor unit anyway to make sure nothing else was going on. They were able to swap out the capacitor and were in and out of the visit in less than an hour. The only negative I'd cite is the price. Every business needs to make money which is great, but I found their pricing to be higher than most, so keep that in mind as you are looking at options. The capacitor I had changed was ~80$ part and they charged $500 to swap it, so essentially 400/hour for labor. I also had them quote me replacement for a $200 fan and they quoted $950, so you get the idea. If you are looking for someone competent who can do the job right I think Alamo is solid. If you are more cost conscious and don't mind shopping around you can get things done a lot more reasonably IMO.

In my case, a $150 "special" promotional discount vanished when we removed a short run of basic flex duct from the scope of work. No explanation was given about the discount's removal. It just vanished from the quote. Awesome HVAC company, if you can tote the note, and navigate the, sometimes disappearing, morass of their special promotions, discounts, and coupons.

Sorry for the long review...but please read on to hear my horror story with this sorry excuse of a company. I don't normally write reviews (good or bad), but my poor experience with this company cannot go unheard. I feel obligated to warn others of their frankly criminal business practices. I originally called them out to take a look at my old HVAC that was no longer producing cold air. They identified the Freon was low and filled it back up. Worked well for a bit, but then got low again...indicating their was a leak in the system. The unit was so old, we decided to replace the unit instead of fixing it. The new unit was installed, but not without issue. I chose what they described as their go-to brand - American Standard. Apparently their technicians do not know how to install their go-to brand, because it took several days and several different technicians to get the install completed. A year later, the unit began tripping the breaker any time it went to the 2nd stage. Took them 3 days to come out (when approaching triple digit temperatures), charged $150 service fee and $450 in parts and labor to add a capacitor to the setup (a $50 part and about 10 minutes of labor). Did not fix the problem. Tech came out again, and said it seemed to be an issue with the breaker and that I needed to call an electrician to diagnose and solve the problem. Ended up paying $300 for an electrician to come out. When he took a look at the install, he was flabbergasted. He could not believe what he was seeing! He identified the unit was installed on an aluminum electrical line, that was severely undersized for the unit installed. He said no respectable company would EVER do this kind of shotty work. He said replacing the electrical line would likely cost a couple thousand dollars, since it was on the other side of the house. When I called Smart Air to let them know of the situation, the dispatcher was very dismissive. She said she would have their lead install tech follow up with me, but of course I never heard anything back... That is when they went dark despite several additional attempts on my part, and broke communication with me entirely. I ended up having to pay an electrician to run the new line on my own dollar - several thousand dollars - and now I'm finally back up and running.

This Company is Solid Gold! I am an electrical contractor in the Orange County area, and my elderly parents that live in Menifee, were recently were taken advantage of by an unscrupulous air conditioning contractor that did some shoddy work on a recent AC replacement project. The contractor had not pulled proper permits, had not followed up the installation with a HERS, inspection, and had basically run off with the $3,500.00 that they had required my parents pay up front for. Castillo was referred by a friend, and they provided my folks with a reasonable quote. Shortly after the quote was accepted, the Castillo Team was hard at work fixing the mess that was caused by this unethical contractor. Shortly after the installation was completed they passed the cit y building inspection as well as and passing the HERS inspection with flying colors. They were even so kind as to assist my folks with a sworn affidavit stating the horrible work that was completed by this other contractor. These are people that you can trust! I can not tell you how happy I am with Castillo Services. I called Willie in a panic after my home warranty contractor said it would take four days to fix my AC unit. What?? It is 100 degrees in my house y'all!!! Castillo Services' number was on my AC unit. Willie not only tried to research to see if the unit was still under warranty, he also call the supplier to see if they had the part in town. He literally had it fixed the next day. Thank you guys for fixing our air conditioning system earlier than most companies. They were the quickest to come out unlike others who were booking an appointment days ahead (It might be because of the peak season). But they managed to get their technician down to at my place much earlier. Also the charges are also very nominal. Not high as other companies who are ripping customers off in this peak season. My unit is working amazing and we were saved in this hot season. Also repaired in a reasonable cost. I would be recommending them my friends and family in the city. read more

Castillo Air Conditioning should be at the top of the list for best service, honest advice and reasonable prices. I called late Thursday and Willie came midday Friday which was perfect for me. I was prepared to have to pay lots for a new a/c unit, but after briefly troubleshooting, Willie fixed my dinosaur of an a/c unit and my house is COLD now despite it being 97 degrees outside as I write this. Willie has kept my old air conditioners running through the years when they stop working. He always calls me back immediately. We just put a new a/c and furnace plus insulation and other weatherstripping in my 104 year old home and it is money well spent. Willie negotiated the city permitting and inspection and I got over $2400 in city rebates. Very professional job. read more

The quality of the unit, an American Standard, was excellent as was his workmanship. When our AC unit that he installed had a problem after several years, we happened to be under an AHS warranty. We were forced to use their designated contractor. Unfortunately, they couldn't accurately diagnose the issue. We immediately called Seamus at Green AC. He swiftly identified the problem and resolved it efficiently at a fair price. A few years later.... We had another AC unit break down over a holiday weekend, and. unfortunately Seamus was unavailable, although he did answer our phone call. Because of the speed in which we needed to get the job done, due to the heat, we couldn't wait for him to become available. Despite his not being able to take the job, he provided invaluable guidance on finding alternative solutions. Even though we hired someone else to replace this other AC unit, Seamus remains our top choice for any HVAC problem.

Here are the issues thus far:…read more During summer the primary held an average temp of 80 degrees during the day despite a thermostat setting of 68. Night time temps were not much better. Turns out the system had no dampers, was never balanced and had 5 times the air blowing out of the primary bath and primary closet than it did in the bedroom (which was farthest away). To fix it we had to literally gut the entire ducting install, which turned out to be a long series of interconnected ducts and plenums. Luckily this was easily accessible and we were able to get it rectified quickly by a different contractor. Ran in to the same problem in our downstairs area where my son's room is 80 degrees during the day but the adjacent game room is 70. We had them come out and they measured their work saying that the airflow was to spec. When pressured for the information the main room blows out in excess of 700 can whereas our son's room barely blows 150. Meaning that the system is entirely unbalanced blowing majority of the air into the game room. So to get my son's room to 72, the game room hits nearly 63. Unfortunately, their duct work is not accessible and they are saying they don't need to fix it. So now we are left with a bedroom that gets ridiculously hot in the summer and arctic in the winter and to rip out their work will cost upwards of $35k. Maybe they can service A/C's but I would never use them for new installation of HVAC systems.

After also getting a few other quotes we stayed with Airstar as they offered the most care in telling what to expect, breaking down what would go on, and even offering the best price and guarantee! A few days later the crew showed up on time and were able to remove the old unit, prep and install the new unit (all in about 6 hours), then run a complete test to assure proper working order. After the install the crew stayed to answer questions as well as making sure we knew how to use the updated thermostat correctly. It's been a month since the install and we are quite happy.
