Scary Cold is excellent. Conscience and thorough. We've had very good experiences with them. highly recommend.

Ed and team are not in the least but scary. Quite the opposite. Polite, on time, respectful and trustworthy. They're in the business of happy customers which is getting harder and harder to find versus the make a quick buck and move into the next. Highly recommend Ed and his team! read more

Our Heat stoped working in the night. Called Scary AC around 8:30am and it was fixed before lunch. This was the morning of Feb 3, 2022 when schools were shut down and lots of roads were covered in ice. My flashbacks from last years snowvid debacle were quickly alleviated with prompt service at a very reasonable price! Scary Good Job! read more

Scary Cold AC - Heating & Air Conditioning/HVAC Near Me

Okay, it's been almost a year and I was meaning to do this sooner. Scary Cold put a state of the art air con unit in our house and it has been working like a champ. We have send to use a dehumidifier during the damper months, which saved our air conditioner from working on overdrive, but we may as well retire that. The unit is efficient and our bills have gone down. The guys at Scary Cold will not try to upsell you, but give you all of the options. In fact, we first got our AC repaired by them for a steal, but eventually had to upgrade. Forget the commercials for other places. These guys are hard working and sincere. read more

I really should have written this review sooner, I have been using Ed for over 10 years now. We had 2 really old AC units for our 2 story house and Ed has been fantastic at quickly replying when there was a problem and coming up with solutions to keep them running as long as we could. We finally had to replace our downstairs unit last year and he installed a new top-of-the-market Carrier infinity system which has worked perfectly since it was installed. Ed is such a great down-to-earth guy with loads of experience for quite a variety of problems we've had over the years. read more

We are renters so I don't know how much weight our review will carry but, except for the cost, we are the ones most directly impacted by the service and we felt compelled to write this review. no one wants to hear that their entire unit needs to be replaced but if you live long enough in one place, it's going to happen to you. our landlady spent a couple of days comparatively shopping which seems perfectly sensible and then hired Scary Cold. Even though they had a customer ahead of us, they still came the next dy at the hottest time of the day and finished the job before they left, leaving our house spotless with cold air we only dreamed possible. There was Junior, Eric and a third young man nd yes, some minor language obstacles but easily remedied. There was eas communication between us and Ed, the boss at the office and our landlady who just happened to be in Canada at the time. not only are we pleased with the work but with their attitude and work ethic. so far as we are concerned, we could not be more pleased with their entire organization and would recommend them to anyone without reservation. It's a terrible feeling to realize that your AC is not cooling at the start of a weekend! I'm grateful that Scary Cold could come out on a Friday and get our AC back up and running. The COVID-19 pandemic is going on now and Ed communicated well, wore a mask and practiced social distancing. He replaced the start capacitor, explained the problem, and the whole thing only took about an hour. Highly recommended! read more

Scary Cold are responsive, dependable, and just great to deal with overall. Job was done quickly, effectively, and with no b.s. Blown capacitor and low pressure all fixed up first thing in the AM. Thanks guys! read more

We were at the tail end of a home remodel and the AC went out. We were supposed to move back into the house the next day with our week old baby. Ed's guys were out and had the unit fixed 3 hours after I called. This was in late-July, their busy season. They were slammed with other jobs but they were able to squeeze me in since it was an emergency. Ed even came out the next day to personally verify it had been fixed to his standards. Who does that? All that with some Austin style. The black van is sweet. I highly recommend Scary Cold AC. read more

Ed from Scary Cold makes AC issues in the TX summer heat much less terrifying. We called him when we needed a solution to our upstairs always being waaaay warmer than our arctic downstairs. We have old single pane windows and only one cold air return so things weren't circulating right. He installed another thermostat and these awesome robotic registers that close in one area when to focus AC into another, it worked perfectly! He even called to check if we were still as happy a couple of weeks later, which we totally were. Sounds pricy? Nope! Can there be reverse sticker shock? If so, that's what we had. He might shake his head slowly at you if you call him in a panic because your unit isn't pumping out cold air but your actual problem is that you never change your filter (not that we've ever done that... ahem...) but he's definitely not going to sell you a whole new AC system that you don't need (when other companies DID say that, what a rip!). This is one of those reviews I'm conflicted to write. I want to praise the awesome service we get from Ed, but I'm afraid more business generated from yelp will steal him away from us. He's prompt, smart and affordable. He used to work for an area HVAC service company but has recently started up his own thing. He seems to really like doing it, and he's already pretty busy. For now it seems like he's the only employee so it might be hard during busy times of year to get an appointment, but if you can, the service is personal and capable. read more

We heard about Ed from a friend through roller derby (he DJ's all the flat track games), and we're glad we did. We had a different company come out and install a Nest thermostat after our previous thermostat died a horrible death via exploding batteries. We then noticed that our fan was running constantly and blowing cold air when the actual AC unit wasn't running. Odd. Ed came out and told us that he's seen all kinds of trouble with Nests and how they're wired and uninstalled it for us. He gave us step by step instructions on how to contact the company to get a refund and how to get them to even refund his fee to uninstall it. AND he gave us a loaner thermostat until we could get our refund to buy a new one! His rate was completely reasonable, even though he knew we'd be getting it refunded by Nest. We had such a good experience we're working with him to replace our entire AC unit in the next few months. read more

Ed from Scary Cold AC is great! He is now our go to guy for any HVAC needs. He's very knowledgable and doesn't mind taking the time to explain the inner workings of your system and breakdown the actual issue for you so there aren't any questions as to what is being done. Communication was great all the way through setting up the appointment, having it start on time, and to completion of the work. He had the problem fixed and the unit working at an A level, but wasn't satisfied until he got to A+. I have confidence that the work he has done will last and his no BS work style ensures Scary Cold will be the first and only number I reach for in the future for HVAC work. read more

Ed and his team came out promptly to service our furnace. As our home was born in 1955, the unit had been updated but needed some improvements (REME in-duct air purifier installed, additional return vent installed, new plenum box). Very reasonable prices and best yet, our furnace is running much more efficiently (good timing with the cold blast we just had). I highly recommended for any AC and heating needs. read more

We whole heartedly recommend Scary Cold. We have used them for years at multiple properties - for maintenance, repairs and most recently a new system for an addition. They are exceedingly professional, trustworthy and respectful. read more

Used advanced equipment to determine that my 20-year-old air conditioner was actually performing like a brand new unit and didn't need to be cleaned or serviced in any way. Saved me thousands of dollars by being diligent and honest. Owner Ed did the visit himself and was very nice. read more

Ed from Scary Cold AC is awesome! Not only can he keep your house scary cold in summer, he can combat the scary cold in winter by fixing your furnace. We all know native Texans are weenies when it comes to colder weather and when we found ourselves going outside to warm up in late December, we knew something was wrong. Ed came out to take a look and had us all fixed up in no time. He was referred to us by a friend and there is definitely a reason why. He was honest, friendly, quick, thorough, and oh so easy on the pocketbook. No crazy up sells, no trying to do more than what was needed, no extra fees. Trusting folks in the HVAC industry is not an easy thing, especially when the average Joe just doesn't have the expertise to troubleshoot or DIY. Finding someone like Ed is invaluable to a homeowner. Scary Cold AC makes it not so scary. And we say 'HOORAY' to that! read more

Ed and his crew have been working on the AC units at my office (there are 4) for a few years with great results. So, when the time came for total AC replacement at my home I gave them a call. Needless to say, I made the right decision We made an appointment and the unit was installed the same week. One part from the unit manufacturer was defective, so they had a replacement part in and installed in one day. When I think of repair professionals, be it car or home or commercial, the most important aspect of doing business with them is the question "do I trust them"? Will they try to rip me off with unnecessary costs or upgrades? The answer for Scary Cold is that I trust them completely, and that gives me great piece of mind. I will work with them again! read more

Ed and Taylor came out to fix my AC recently. They responded quickly to my call (at my house within 30 minutes) and did a great job. They're honest, and their prices are reasonable. I checked with one of the competitors in town, and Ed's price was about half of what the other company would have charged. I highly recommend Scary Cold. read more

I've called Ed twice for repairs on my really old AC, and they have always been able to quickly come and fix my AC for reasonable prices. These guys have always been honest and fair to deal with and I can't say enough good things about them. I recently had family visiting and my AC went out in the middle of the night. This is the peak of summer heat and I called Ed at 8am, he had someone at my house by 10am! They were able to repair my 20 year old AC and help me avoid a disaster. Ed originally worked with our general contractor to design the AC and heat pump systems for our addition. When I accidentally tripped a fuse when monkeying with our Nest, I called Ed and he came out within an hour on a Saturday, despite his having other plans. He spent the time to not only to change the fuse but to wait with me while the Nest came online (we didn't have him install, unfortunately) and also patiently taught me some principals about how our heat pump system and nest works. Like others mentioned on yelp, he has integrity and pride of work. We are using him for all of our AC and heat work in the future! read more

When I noticed water steadily leaking from my furnace, I started to call around for AC service. With a bit of troubleshooting Ed figured out what my problem was. Fairly simple fix at a super reasonable rate, without trying to sell me anything or do anything unneeded.
