This was the first restaurant we ate in considering it was built into the Villas we stayed during the vacation. I ordered the Fish Tacos and Pancakes on another day. The only word that comes out of my mouth is "TASTY." There's just something about getting Fish Tacos in Maui which makes it my top option. The pancakes were not too sweet but just the right amount of fruit flavor and fluffiness. It is even inspiring me to learn how to cook pancakes properly. read more

The food was very delicious. We waited about 45 minutes to be seated but we enjoyed the beach next door while we waited and time flew by. The drinks were delicious and the food even better. My favorite was the pork huevos rancheros. Great brunch place. read more

We loved this little gem. It was connected to our hotel. It felt like a little mom and pop café. We enjoyed eating here for breakfast, as well as getting bar food/drinks throughout the day. You can get drinks here and take them out to the pool or beach- very convenient! Or, if you would like to stay and sit, the view is incredible. The staff here were very pleasant, attentive, and hard workers. Highly recommend! read more

While waiting to get checked into our room at royal lahaina, this was the closest place with a good review on yelp to try out. I got the loco mock and my husband got the heurvos Ranchos. I loved the loco moco, its basically a deconstructed hamburger with eggs, rice, patty and gravy. I did my eggs poached. I felt it was similar to a poutine (for all those canandians), with a bit if extra stuff. I loved the gravy and I feel thats what made it. Id have it again. My husband got the huervos Ranchos, he wasn't a big fan of it. He didn't like the combination of the eggs and the meat and felt it was missing flavor and spice. I found the service to be great and sitting area to be open and spacious. If your nearby, id definitely give this a try read more

My goto spot for breakfast/lunch when I stay at the Royal Lahaina in Maui. I always get the Loco moco now that it's my new favorite. I used to always get the pancakes. The only thing that would make this place better is if they offered Kalau pork loco moco. I typically get my food to go but the location is nice, you can sit outside and enjoy the views of the ocean. Love this place! The portions are generous and the prices are not bad for being in Hawaii! Great place to enjoy where you are and relax due to the calming atmosphere. This is a restaurant located inside of aston maui kaanapali villas, great food with beach view. The breakfast is really good, I tried the banana bread french toast and it did not disappoint. I came to Castaway Cafe with my family while we were on vacation in Maui. We usually opt to pass on breakfast/brunch when we are together, but I was feeling particularly hungry one morning, so we decided to walk to Castaway Cafe since it was just down the beach from our hotel. On top of being a convenient location for us, it's right on the beach so it has a great view. Though they don't take reservations, it wasn't a long wait for us to get a table. Overall I would say that the food was good in a very standard way. We got an assortment of juices and the papaya fruit bowl to share. I got the Paradise Pancakes, my brother got the Short Rib Eggs Benedict, my dad got the Short Rib Loco Moco, my mom got the Kimchi Fried Rice, and my partner got the Kamehameha omelette. As expected, the fruit was very fresh and sweet. The stars of the show were probably the Kimchi Fried Rice and my Paradise Pancakes. My mom raved about her fried rice and my pancakes were huge and perfectly fluffy, going perfectly with the macademia nuts, bananas, pineapple, syrup, AND a coconut cream sauce. I was hoping the short rib dishes would be more exciting and flavorful but the short rib was just kind of there and simple (not a bad thing but so much more potential!) The house gravy carried the loco moco - the entire dish's flavor basically came from this gravy and luckily it was really yummy. My brother's benedict was fine but very mild in flavor (no gravy to carry this rib dish) The omelette was only ok - it was pretty small and the Portuguese sausage didn't come through the way I was hoping (+ the side of sourdough and potatoes was meh in a standard American breakfast diner way, so overall we were a bit disappointed it wasn't too special of a menu item). Overall, this is a fast breakfast/brunch spot that gets the job done. Some stand outs, and otherwise just classic Hawaiian breakfast items. read more

Me and my family came in for breakfast at around 9:45 and waited about 20 min for a table. It is a more relaxed and chill environment with a great view by the beach and a nice indoor/outdoor seating area. Our server was very nice, friendly, and chill. We got the warm banana bread to start with the lilikoi butter and it was so delish. Lilikoi actually means "passion fruit" and it complemented the banana bread very well. I got the spinach eggs benedict and it was pretty good. The hollandaise was good and the potatoes on the side were crispy and well seasoned. My parents got the huevos rancheros and the omelette I forget the name of, and the server was very accommodating to my parents substitutions and omissions! The food was ok. I read some reviews so I was expecting more. I had the macadamia nut crusted Mahi-Mahi and it was just ok. I also had a side salad which came room temperature. I hate that. I believe salads should be served semi chilled for that fresh effect. My sister had a chicken salad and she said it tasted like one of those bagged salads that you get at the supermarket. That's not good. My husband did like his hamburger though, it wasn't a total loss. There was a cute bird walking around which I liked but this didn't make the food taste any better. Lol. I don't think we will be going back ever again with so many other restaurants to choose from. read more

Beautiful ocean view at this classic Hawaiian ocean restaurant. I had the Buffalo chicken wrap and it was delicious. The chicken was cooked soft and tender. Their fries were some of the best I've had too. I had the toffee chocolate mousse cake as recommended by our waitress and she was most definitely right in saying it would not disappoint. Service was fantastic as it was prompt and our waitress was accommodating and polite. I will definitely be back here on my next trip to Maui! read more

It's one of our favorite spots to eat when we come out here for our vacation. We always try something different, and last night, we had their braised shorts ribs and ribeye steak. Beautiful view with friendly staff. We stumbled upon this place for breakfast after driving around the area. The Cafe already had a line forming outside before it opened. We were seated fairly quickly with the waitress greeting us. We shared the banana bread, loco moco, kalua pork heuvos rancheros, and pineapple, macadamia, banana pancakes. The food was delicious with large servings. Definitely needed more syrup than 1 ramekin but I'm sure the waitress would've brought more syrup if I had asked. This is a great spot for dinner and even breakfast. Super close to our hotel royal lahaina which makes it convenient for us. My wife had the Kalua pork nachos which had some great toppings on it which were flavorful and delicious. I had the angus ribeye steak cooked medium and it was a delicious juicy amazing steak. Came with veggies and mashed potatoes. Veggies were seasoned and tasty but the mashed potatoes come out a little bland. We threw a little salt on it and it came out great. I would definitely come back here for sure and recommend this spot. Oh and the mai tai's were made to perfection. Not too strong and not too much juice. Perfect blend. read more

The service was outstanding each time we dined in, and we made sure to hit up the little gift stand on our way out which is stocked with some local jams in tropical flavors. The dragonfruit chia bowl was pretty good, just the ratio of the actual dragonfruit (puree) and chia pudding was about a spoonful of each in comparison to the actual fresh fruit. It was really off. The grand slap was basic with overcooked scrambled eggs, plain potatoes that tasted frozen from a bag, and dry toast. It didn't come with butter or jelly so we asked for some. The pancake was okay. We did ask if there was another kind of syrup available other than the maple syrup that was there at the table. Our server offered us coconut syrup which was brought out ice cold. On top of that there was a $3 charge for it which the server didn't mention and I didn't see it listed on the menu. The mushroom scramble was also dry and plain. I had high hopes for this place, seeing that the restaurant itself looks bright and inviting, but unfortunately the food overall was less than mediocre.

Our last night in Maui was made truly special by our experience at Castaways. Although our waitress forgot to inform us about the prime rib special, the evening took a delightful turn. After finishing our dinner, we decided to unwind in the bar while enjoying the soulful melodies of a local Hawaiian singer. The ambiance was perfect, and we were captivated by the music. During our time in the bar, we had the pleasure of meeting Chef Carmela. We mentioned our regret about missing out on the prime rib special and jokingly said maybe next time. To our surprise, as we were preparing to leave, Chef Carmela brought us a specially packed prime rib dinner to go. It was an incredibly kind gesture that left us speechless. Carmela's generosity and thoughtfulness truly made our evening unforgettable. Her exceptional service and warm personality exemplified the spirit of Hawaii. We visit Maui every year, and encounters like this are precisely why we keep coming back. My wife and I stayed at the Maui Kaanapali Villas resort in April of this year 2016, whereby the Castaway Cafe location right on the beach allowed us to enjoy very tasty breakfasts and lunches served by a delightful, personable and engaging young woman by the name of Chantrell. She was such a joy to see every day during our stay and was so helpful in describing the menu offerings. This restaurant location is ideal as it has an outstanding offering of food selections complimented by a fun bar with all of the Maui island cocktails, beer and wine offerings in a relaxed setting that just invites you to come back each day, a great eating location to enjoy late afternoon cocktails and then take in the famous Maui sunsets. Ask for Chantrell when you go there, she will make your dining experience a memorable one and she is very astute with taking cell phone camera pictures. I highly recommend the various breakfast offerings such as the Eggs Benedict and their luncheon burgers and fries are absolutely delicious, Mahi Mahi fish sandwich was superb. This restaurant is just 20 yards from the golden sands of Kaanapali beach. Enjoy!! read more
