The food here is insanely good. Very big sandwiches and everything they make it's fresh!! The owner's day job is conductor on commuter rail. I don't know where he got the passion for food but boy, he knows good food!! The restaurant is small; it's located in downtown Boston and it's pact during lunch hours. They have a line down the street but it's definitely worth waiting (no big wait though!!!) If you are ever in the area or work downtown try it and you ll keep going back. Since my last review, I have eaten here at least once per week (excluding vacations). It's just that good. I can safely tell you that all of their daily specials (ex. chicken parmigiana, chicken marsala, veal stew, lasagna, etc.) are as fresh and delicious as their pastas, and the best part is putting the two together. Sheer brilliance. It really doesn't get much better than this. And the service- every customer (or prospective customer) is their most important customer. They are, to put it simply, just great people. Come right before, or at the beginning of, the weekday lunch rush to get first dibs on the fresh specials or a head start on ordering your pasta, and grab a seat at the window bar if you've got the time. Casa Razdora is right out of a movie. It's 100% what you'd dream a small Italian restaurant would be. This lunch stop did not disappoint. When you immediately walk in the door you get "next!" shouted your way to get your order, but don't get frazzled. You can take your time to look if you need it! And, if you can't read the board on the wall there's individual copies of the full menu laying on the counter ledge where they take your order. I will say it gets pretty tight in there as you order & wait because of their popularity. The lunch portion of the pasta dishes were just right, and it's so easy to grab to-go. And surprisingly you really don't have a long wait at all! I got the pumpkin ravioli + burro e salvia sauce (butter & sage). The pasta was fresh and cooked perfectly. The sauce was also very good, but very buttery as it didn't seemed to be cooked long enough to be browned butter like intended. Even though I wasn't a huge fan of the sauce, the whole dish was great. People on here seem to rave about this place, but I've tried it now three times, with three items, and my experiences have been between "meh" and today's "I'm not even going to eat this." So maybe it depends on what you order, or who's in the kitchen that day? I don't know. Today I ordered linguini with pesto sauce and chicken. I had thought with the rave reviews that I'd be getting legit pesto, like I might make at home. Not even close. It's just olive oil with some dark flakes of what was definitely not fresh basil. It's pretty distasteful and I'm not going to waste the calories finishing it, it's going into the trash can. A shame, because I'm famished! Guess I'm done with this place, since there are 9,000 options in the Financial District area. It's a shame, since this place has that nice authentic feel. But I'm realizing that "authentic" doesn't necessarily equate to well made or enjoyable to eat. Oh well. read more

I work right around the corner from Casa and it's one of my go too's. They were actually just featured by Guy's Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, which doesn't surprise me because the place is delicious. I am willing to give this place a second try but I wanted to share my first experience at Cafe Razdora. I came here with a friend today and encountered a long line--which usually means the place is either really good or really overhyped. To their credit, they took the order of almost everyone in line in a matter of a minute, both a blessing and a curse. Why curse? While they nailed down everyone's sandwich ordered correctly and in a timely manner, I had to wait for 20-25 minutes after giving my order just for the food---which they forgot and had to ask me 3 times whether I had been served. After receiving my food, they apologized multiple times and gave me a complimentary Palline di Cioccolato - Sprinkle Cocoa(which was delicious btw). Onto my rating of the food....I ordered the Fettuccine Boscaiola, fettuccine tossed with ham, peas, onion, black pepper & cream. The dish was very very plentiful--especially for $7.64. Furthermore, their rosemary foccacia had the perfect golden color, was soft and buttery. Furthermore, the bread was very well-decorated with rosemary--you can smell the fragrance of the seasoning as you bite into the bread. The fettuccine on the other hand fell flat. Although plentiful, the dish itself was very very heavy from the heavy-handed amounts of cream and Parmesan cheese. I love cream and Parmesan in my pasta dishes--but this was a bit too much. Furthermore, they were a bit heavy handed with the amount of peas they decided to place in my dish. Overall, I feel as if they were rushing to make my dish in such a short time that they didn't carefully eyeball (I know it's a bit contradictory) their ingredients.The dish was salty and almost too rich and the fettuccine was not highlighted by the sauce--too much sauce that overshadowed the taste of the pasta. The cream sauce also coagulated after 5 minutes of eating the pasta, which was a bit expected of the cream sauce but still a bit disappointing. Overall, I feel like Yelpers might've missed the boat on this place. Although they give very large portion sizes for affordable prices, my fettuccine dish was very disappointing. But like I said earlier, I want to try this place again and amend my rating so that it reflects the multitude of favorable reviews that Casa Razdora received. read more

The food here is very good, and the dizzying menu options are very extensive - they have everything from a huge list of pastas and sauces, to sandwiches, to weekly specials. But boy does the service get sloppy when the lunch rush happens. I would try to get here between 11-11:30, or after 1:30pm. Gets extremely crowded during the lunch rush, and the service is extremely chaotic. Interior is cramped, food comes out haphazardly and not really in the order you ordered it, and there is generally a lot of shouting and confusion. Service when they have been empty, however, is very warm and friendly. The food, as everyone has said, is fantastic, hearty, and very affordable. I don't know if it's necessarily the best lunch food, given that it is 100% certain to induce afternoon food coma. Overall, I'm a little mixed. Food is fantastic but service is chaotic and sloppy, and combined with the claustrophobic lunch mob that forms here, often I find myself skipping Casa Razdora for another place. read more

Although I only came here once for pizza, I already got a vibe that this place was definitely perfect for when you want some real authentic Italian food! For just $3.50, you get a slice as big as 1/4 of a pizza which is an amazing deal if you ask me. I could barely finish the pizza. I wanted to keep eating it though because it was just that good. But I think it was the crust that ultimately won me over. I am a sucker for great pizza crusts and they definitely nailed it. The shop is quite small and get super crowded during peak hours but you get your food pretty quickly so that's good. Luckily I was able to find seats by the window so I didn't have to go elsewhere to eat it. The menu has some great items like authentic lasagna and other kinds of original Italian food. Just looking at the prepared foods on the counters made me drool and wished I opted for those instead of pizza, BUT I knew I had to try the pizza first! This place is never a let down. I'm no pasta guru but every time I have Casa Razdora, it tastes like no ordinary pasta. The hype is real. Even though it takes a while for pasta to be ready (give or take 10 min) it's well worth it. Gets pretty packed and it is a bit intimidating but hey! It's crowded for a reason. Piece of advice, know what you are ordering ahead of time because the workers there are fast paced and they don't have time for you to make up your mind. Stopped by for an early lunch, small shop but very active. Lots of people came in to get sandwiches to go, and they were served quite promptly. the Salsiccia Cascioni sounded good, and turned out to be quite a delicious (and what I'm assuming is authentic) italian calzone on flatbread. It took some time to cook, but it was worth the wait. The sausage was well seasoned, and the marinara used was very clearly Italian seasoned. I was a bit torn about the bread. I've had calzones before with pizza dough, and the dough used here was flatbread, and so it wasn't as fluffy. It didn't ruin the dish, but I think I would have preferred another bread. But everything else about the experience was enjoyable, and if I return to Boston I would definitely eat here again. read more

No problem giving Casa Razdora another 5 Star review here. After reading the reviews on my train ride to Boston I decided I had to check it out as I had time before my meeting and it's located w/in walking distance of South Station. Stepping inside, the first image that popped in my noggin was the 'Soup Nazi' due to the smaller surrounding and the arcing line of hungry regulars that stood before me. The décor is inviting with a large antiqued armoire, two or three farmhouse-looking 4-tops and a counter bar w/ stools looking out on quiet Water Street. Orders are taken at what can be best most eloquently described as a deli counter. The menu is full of Italian deli classics but what sets Casa Razdora apart from the rest in my mind is their impressive pasta offerings. My eyes locked in on the Prosciutto and Ricotta-stuffed Ravioli with the Nonna sauce (Tomato, Rosemary, Crush Red Pepper and Cream). While the majority of local patrons carry-out, I opted to take advantage of the counter bar by the window. When I said it would 'For here', I was handed a small basket with the silverware and a warm piece of fresh Rosemary Focaccia. (I'm not sure if 'to go' orders also receive this) After a short wait the Ravioli came out of the back kitchen on a simple white plate. The dish hit on all points...in part b/c I was very hungry...but more so b/c of the authenticity of the ingredients (pasta made in-house...sauce made in-house...etc). The Ravioli were abundant and covered in a generous helping of the delicious Nonna sauce. The sauce had a great balance between the acid of the tomato and the velvety texture of the cream. Wow!!!! Some of the best pasta I have eaten. Asked for ravioli dish and guy wanted to know which sauce I wanted, they have around 26 choices. The guy taking my order knew exactly which one to select, and it was definitely the perfect choice. Meatballs were some of the best I've ever eaten. That place never stopped the whole time I was there. They definitely have a name for the area. Just wish we could amp it up with more toppings or something. I feel a little weird having sauce and carbs for a meal.. girl needs some protein and veggies. Fantastic fast authentic Italian food. why is it authentic? Well the people here speak Italian so that is authentic enough for me. This place pretty much serves pasta, pizza, and subs. Their pizza is excellent Italian style pizza, good size crust and just the right mix of sauce and cheese. The peperoni's on mine tasted very fresh. Did I mention this is one of the biggest slices I've ever had. I've also tried the Manzo Marinato which is thinly sliced steak tips in a red marinade with american cheese, lettuce, tomato's, pickles, olive oil, and jalapenos. Pasta was perfect and the price was better than in the north end. I don't usually care for foccacia but this was really good. Theres little seating but I went there at 3pm. I like the marble counter area. When I left I asked what the cake ball looking things were and the guy gave me one for free and they were very good. Not 5 stars only because iceberg lettuce does not belong in a caprese salad and for $8, I've had better in the north end for the same price. Would definitely go back. Good thing there were a few people in front of us because I needed to figure out what to order. Overheard one woman in line say that the Thurs special (pan seared chicken) was so good. I ended up getting fusilli nonna - $7 - and my friend got the Thurs special - $9. My pasta dish was plenty saucy and the serving was good enough for 2 meals. I work quite close to Casa Razdora so I decided to give them a chance since I heard it was a quite good place. I ordered Penne with 3 meatballs. Well, the third meatball only appeared on the bill, not on the plate... However, I have to say that once I tried the first meatball I was actually happy of not having it there... They were tasteless and the texture was not the expected one... Probably because the quality of the meat was not the best one... The Marinara sauce was also tasteless... In fact, I think it was water with some tomato... And finally the pasta, it was overcooked. This is a sacrilege for an Italian place! I was so hungry but even though I didn't even finish my plate... I would like to say that at least was cheap but... No... That was not the case... Anyway, since I saw that the sandwiches looked good, I decided to give them a second chance. I ordered a Prosciutto sandwich. Well, the experience was not that bad in that occasion but not good either. The bread was not good (I don't think it was fresh). The prosciutto was not bad, but was practically inexistent... I don't remember they used any olive oil in it... And once again, the price... So overpriced... This is a fantastic place to get real food at lunch. There is a dizzying variety of types and options, so check the menu ahead of time. There is little patience to the place, but that is just the way a successful place works at that time of day in the financial district. Go to Al's on State Street without your order in mind, and see how patient they are. Or to the Falafel King on Washington. The pace at Razdora is just not that uncommon among the places worth going to. The food, however, is. I have had multiple dishes here, and all have been great. The Fattoria, Pesto, and Rucola salads are my most common choices, but I will admit that I always get 2 or 3 meatballs on the side. They are tender and flavorful, although we debate what the unusual spice is ( I think it could be a tiny bit of pureed calamata olive ). I've done a couple of special panini which were also great, fresh ingredients on fresh bread. I haven't done pasta, mainly because I think I'd be in a coma for meetings after 2:00. In any case, this is a real gem. Yes, the line gets long, and it can feel like you are ordering your food on Black Friday at Macy's, but the line passes quickly, the staff are pleasant for all of their speed, and the food is certainly worth the minor inconveniences. read more

I got the Manzo Marinato and it was divine. Sweet, spicy, cooked perfectly. Divine. It's humungous so I have half now for dinner. For $10?? I'll take it! Casa Razdora has made lunch breaks Italian heaven. This is a place that could easily charge people $30 for one of their pasta dishes. The fact that it is $7 makes it dangerous for us people that are poor at dieting. If you ask for a "slice" of pizza, you will get a quarter of a pizza. If you ask for pesto sauce, you will get delicious fresh pesto alfredo sauce instead. If you want a simple tomato sauce, forget about it- because they also have Nonna. No, not an Italian grandmother, but even better. Her tomato sauce. This divine sauce is comprised of chunky, fresh tomatoes, rosemary, garlic, crushed red pepper, all smoothly combined together with a splash of cream. All this great flavor can be poured over penne, fusilli, tubetti, spaghetti, tagliatelle, fettuccine or linguine. Isn't it refreshing to hear something other than "spaghetti or ziti?" Oh yes, and the pumpkin tortellini- must put that on the list to try... You should definitely go to Casa Razdora, even if you don't work in the Financial District. I think I'm going to cancel my gym membership because I now have a reason to walk 2.4 miles (1.2 each way) several times a week...through 5 feet of snow. This place is the absolute nizzles. I cannot believe I've lived in Boston for the better part of a year now and have failed to check it out until now. When I rate restaurants, I base it all on the food. Good service and decor are tertiary and quaternary for me. Not to say that Casa Razdora has bad service or bad decor, I just happened to get takeout so I haven't experienced that facet of the restaurant. But the key here is that I got takeout....and I still think its amazing! Usually I give restaurants the benefit of an understandable "takeout/delivery deterioration" in food quality because it's not fair to complain about eating something in a setting that it wasn't intended to be served in. If it's great piping hot out of the kitchen and not as good by the time you get it delivered, you should just get your lazy butt up and dine in. That said, there was NO takeout deterioration at Casa Razdora! All three of the pastas I ordered tasted ridiculously good for a price that is just mindblowingly reasonable. There's only one remaining problem. Why oh why oh why do I work until 5PM every day and why oh why oh why are you not open on weekends? Le Sigh. read more

Got a Groupon and went to try it out - there really is a line out the door! It moves quickly though, and most people are getting their food to go. For those who want to eat in, there are maybe a dozen seats. We had the Primavera and the Carbonara, the primavera was packed with veggies and the pancetta in the carbonara was lovely. I'm used to a carbonara made with egg and butter, not cream, so I thought it could use some more flavour but that's me just being picky. The foccacia they serve with the meal is SO good! We saw huge sandwiches and huge pieces of pizza, I can't wait to go back and try more! Definitely SPLIT an entree unless you can eat a LOT. read more

I am kind of obsessed with this restaurant. I recently started working nearby here on a temporary position, and I honestly want to continue working in the area just so I can keep eating here everyday! I've been gradually working my way through the menu and have not been disappointed with anything. All of the pasta sauces are made to order and so good. I love the fume sauce, the bolognese, shrimp scampi, and the prosciutto ravioli. I am not normally a sandwich lover, but the prosciutto di parma is so delicious- filled with an abundance of meat balanced by authentic Italian spices. Even just the turkey sandwich is probably one of the best as far as turkey sandwiches go. They slice all the meats to order right in front of you- thinly sliced and as fresh as it gets! The salads are great too- turkey tips are amazing and so is the chicken salad. My boyfriend loves their pizza as well. The menu is huge and has something for everyone whether you want a light or heavy meal, and EVERYTHING is great. You can't go wrong. And I can't believe the prices. I've had lunch and picked up dinner for 2 and only spent about $30. The daily lunch specials are all superb deals, and fast since they're already made. The rest of the menu is made to order. It's only open for lunch and only open M-F, so you pretty much have to work in the area to eat there. There's usually a line unless you go after 2:00 or before 12:00, but it moves pretty quickly.
