Went here today for lunch fufor the 1st time. Bad, not horrible but not good. As you walk in you'll smell a wet carpet or old building smell. There were 5 if us. 2 ladies ordered the fajita special, even brought to them the waiter said "well done" because both were extra charred. (1 lady said "I didn't order well done"). My "best in Bakersfield menudo" was just EH! And it was a small bowl for $8.55. The other 2 ladies were OK with their food. I will never return there. read more

Casa Munoz has been around for ages. Owned by a local Bakersfield family for many years. It's standard Mexican fare for most Bakersfield residents. The location is quite far from my side of town. So the few times I've been it's on my lunch hour. They always manage to get us in and out in under 45 minutes. That is, if you get in before the 12:15 lunch madness. The parking lot can be a total nightmare. It's simply not built for trucks. There's been a few occasions where I've seen smaller cars blocked in by two adjacent long bed trucks. Hopefully, they were all in the same party. The building has a retro Mexican feel. It's got that 60s vibe, but with Latin flare. The indoor/outdoor garden thing is kind of interesting. Sometimes they jazz it up with seasonal decorations. The salsa is quite mild. I prefer something with more of a kick, but they cater to their clientele. I've only ever ordered one thing in the multiple times we've visited, the Casa Munoz Special Burrito. Which I swear used to be Burrito Especial on the menu, but has been since changed to its English translation. I still order it as the Burrito Especial, which raises a few eyebrows in our party. Rice and Beans are always extra - and while not the best ever, it's worth the extra dollar or so. The chile verde in the burrito could use a little added kick. It's a tad bland, but the abundance of melted cheese on the burrito makes up for it. Service is great. Always friendly and always attentive. If you're looking for real authentic Mexican food there's much better in town. But Casa Munoz is solid for a group setting where everyone will walk away satisfied. read more

The enchilada lunch special I got was really great! My coworker ordered the Mexican pizza and it was very tasteful as well. The waitress was also very attentive and we didn't have to wait long for our food. I would've given it 5 stars but I'm not a big fan of the location. read more

Well I returned. I would like to say this time the chefs did good. Enchilada's were great. Brought them all the way to Los Angeles. To share wth family and friends I was never reimbursed for the other order that was messed up. But these enchilada's were good. So I would recommend the enchiladas. But take some money in your pockets. Because they are 450 each. I bought them ala carte. My total for 3 orders of Enchilada's by themselves was $43 dollars and some change. Your better off buying the 3 items plate it's 15.95. You get 3 items and rice and beans. Again try Enchilada's the sauce is great. But the price Ouch!!!! Hahahaha. read more

A group of us came here for a work lunch at 12 p.m. on a Tuesday and the place was full - good sign. We were seated in the back room with the animal heads - they even have a jackalope! Their chips are salsa are fresh and so good! Also, ask for pico de gallo when they deliver your salsa. The pico has good chunks of tomatoes and green onions - it was some of the best pico I've had. Their lunch specials are reasonably priced. I ordered the fajitas lunch plate for $8. The chicken was tender and the peppers were smoky crisp. The rice could have used a bit more spice but, it was very fluffy and had a good texture. Their other lunch specials were taco, burrito, and enchilada dishes and are $8 to $10. I thought the service was a bit slow. My co-worker, who's a regular, said that this was not characteristic of them and they were probably slammed at lunch. I'll take his word for it. I've been coming here for 25yrs. The food has always been amazing. Today it was terrible. Their once best rice in town was hard & bland. I had carnitas which was nothing similar to carnitas. It was well done thin pork chops in some weird lemon & spice marinade. The other two adults joking me had their famous special burrito which is chili verde. Both were unsatisfied as well. It was dry & bland despite the sauce being fair. It was as if they just boiled the pork in water & dropped some sauce on top to save cost. The only compliment on that entire meal was the melted cheese on the top. Even the fries in the kids meal were flavorless as if they were dollar store frozen. The once delicious salsa has given way to something so spicy no one could eat it. Then the bill came! $70! For three adults & two children whose drinks were included in their meal. We all went to dinner Thursday night at Senor Pepe's & it was less than that for five adults & two children one of which had the most expensive item on the menu; with food that was at least worthy of bringing home to your dog. I will never again step foot in Casa Munoz & I'd advice you don't either. Stick to Loma Linda's, Si Senor or Senor Pepe's. Unbelievable. Service was amazing we had Julia. This use to be my favorite Mexican food restaurant in Bakersfield, over the years, I'm assuming as the owner as gotten older and the younger generation has taken over the service has gone downhill. I actually enjoy the fact that the waiters and waitresses are allowed to let the art on their body show, I do not enjoy the attitude I receive from a specific waitress. Maybe (and I have mostly European ancestry) a Caucasian waitress isn't a good fit for Casa Munoz. I might give it one more try, but if I get her and her attitude again, by business will go elsewhere. Always ask for Luis! He's the best! Came here for a late lunch with a couple of girlfriends. We had a wonderful time. The chips and salsa are both scrumptious. So is the food. I had a cheese enchilada with rice and beans that was yum! The enchilada sauce was a little sweet, but good and the cheese was just the right amount; not too little or too much. My two friends each ordered something off the menu. One had just a single enchilada with chili verde; with lettuce and sour cream. She was "mmm-mmm-ing" as she ate! My other friend had a single cheese enchilada with just rice. We ate and talked for two-hours! Our waiter, Luis, never once made us feel like we should leave. He joked with us and took pictures for us, kept our glasses full - he was awesome. They have a nice size parking lot outside. The inside of the restaurant was beautifully decorated. Even though it has been at this location for 24 years, you wouldn't know it by the look of the place. They keep it up nicely. read more

We started off with stuffed jalapeños, I wouldn't recommend them at all. They are just regular jalapeños you can buy at any food store. I was expecting more authentic home made appetizers. Once our food came out the presentation was beautiful and I felt like home. Chicken enchiladas were so juicy and flavorful, rice and beans are authentic which is a plus for me. Not friendly at all, I wasn't quite ready to order when she asked us and I told her I wasn't ready yet, she just stood there like rushing me to order so she wouldn't have to come back. I can truthfully say the food was awful. The refried beans tasted like dish soap, the rice had a strange taste I have never experienced before and my ground beef tacos were literally wet and soggy with no seasoning in the meat, one large chunk of tomato (looked like the center of a tomato), lettuce and a very small amount of cheese. I ate one taco, a small amount of beans, and a fork full of rice.That was all I could stomach as I was getting nauseous. I hope this was an anomaly and the food is normally better but judging from some of the other reviews I don't think so. I noticed that most of the good reviews came from people that said they have been coming here for years. They seem to have a sense of loyalty in their critiques. Now the service. The margarita was a syruppy, tequila-y sludge. The chicken mole was boiled chicken in a dark brown chicken broth. My friend and I met the owners of this restaurant last night after the Blake Shelton concert. We couldn't get a taxi, after heading to the hotel on foot in the rain, they gave us directions to get to where we were going. After walking 1/2 mile a truck pulled up to us. It was them!!!!
