I've been coming to SoCal Tamale for about two years, and I'm really disappointed to say that I won't be returning. Over the past few months, the quality of the food has noticeably gone downhill. What used to be fresh and enjoyable just hasn't been the same. On top of that, the customer service has been lacking, and the location itself has not felt clean during recent visits. We've also had repeated issues with our orders being incorrect. At first, we thought it might be the drive-thru, so we started going inside instead, but unfortunately the same problems continued. The last three visits all required us to go back and fix mistakes, which shouldn't be happening this often. It's honestly disappointing because when this place first opened, the food was really good and felt like something special. I know there's pride behind the brand, which is why this decline stands out even more. I hope this location can get back to the quality and service it once had. read more

For the past 3 years, I've always had the best experiences here, but today was very different. I ordered a country burrito breakfast special combo with an iced coffee in drive thru. The girl said "Iced coffee is an additional $3 and we don't have enough of the house coffee." How do you have iced coffee but not regular coffee? Isn't it just coffee on top of ice? But when I pulled up to the window the girl was annoyed and assumed we drove away. She gave an attitude and seemed so confused on what she was doing. She took our order again and said there's coffee now. She made us park and wait 10 minutes. My family decided to come here for breakfast this morning while the limited time 50% deal is still going through today. The music is still way too loud for the cashier to hear my order correctly. The communication isn't great because of how easy it is for them to mishear customers. It's hard to have a conversation while dining at the restaurant in general. Awesome... my brother and I asked for two orders of the 2 Birria Muffin Combo to go. We had to repeat ourselves like 3 times to make sure our order was heard correctly and when we got home it was still wrong. Also, we were charged full price for all breakfast items despite the promo. I've gave this place too many tries and it still always disappoints. I went for lunch with my coworker and all was good until I got home. My body was very weak and my head was spinning with a big headache. Food poisoning... from asada fries. I'm done with this place and I would suggest going elsewhere since the food isn't anything special either. Many more options out there. read more

We just had the worst drive-thru experience with an employee named Yesenia. She was extremely rude, cut us off mid-sentence, and even shut the window while we were still talking. At first I thought maybe we came off wrong, but we checked our dash cam footage when we got home just to be sure... and no, we were completely respectful. Her attitude was unprovoked and unnecessary. It's disappointing because this location usually gets it right, but customer service like that is unacceptable. We order from SoCal every four to six weeks I would say. The food is consistently good and the service at the window is always friendly. And (if you remember my review from last year) their menu board has also improved. Tonight my wife and I had carne asada bowls with "creamy sauce" (creamy cilantro dressing). I've never had their bowls before. Great balance of flavors and they didn't skimp on meat in favor of the rice... and the rice was fluffy! Absolutely delicious!!! Son had a trio burrito which he loved (and devoured) and we "shared" (I had a few bites and he ate the rest!) their loaded asada fries. Fantastic!!! I highly recommend!! read more

I had a horrible experience in this restaurant because of one of the employees, Anthony, whose attitude was unnecessarily dismissive, rude, and acts like he knows it all! On my third visit, I saw the "Review us on Yelp and get a free agua fresca" sign. I told one of the employees that I would leave a review on Yelp to get a free agua fresca. Anthony suddenly jumped in and said I already did it before and that he had already given me an agua fresca in one of my previous two visits... which is FALSE!! He kept arguing, and I decided to just drop it because arguing with a taco guy who doesn't have an education is not worth the stress. I was a regular customer at SoCal Tamal in 2021 at Calloway Drive Bakersfield until they stopped doing it there, and I started to go again very recently after I rediscovered their other location. But the unpleasant exchange with Anthony left a sour taste in my mouth, not sure if I wanna come back. I used to love this place , specially because I been a long time customer from 2020 when they posted up in District . Recently the business has been terrible . I walked in and notice only a couple people before me . When I started ordering the first item a coffee , the cashier yelled to the cook " are we busy "? Then the cook looked at me and back at the cashier and said yeah we are . Which from what I saw was not busy two of the workers where In the back just talking and the lady in the back was not even doing anything she was just standing around . So the cashier turns back to me and says " we don't make coffees when it's busy . I then asked for a taco plate which she then replies to no we don't have that .
