We've seen this place whenever we drive by and always wondered. I seen it on Yelp as somewhere we should try out so we did. It's very small but really clean. The waitress was really nice and took our drink order within minutes. The menu is small but perfect. Parking lot is not very big and bathrooms are outside. My daughter had the side of rice and she loved it. I had the Taquitos and enchilada. Both were very tasty but my favorite were the Taquitos. It took me back to Olivera street. They were big and you could tell they were not frozen like other place and oh that avocado cream was amazing. My husband had the chile relleno and enchilada and he said he loved his plate. Well here I go again reviewing another tiny restaurant. When you drive by it, if you blink, you will miss it. HOWEVER. Being a tiny restaurant does not in any way take away from their delicious food. I was full halfway through my meal and could not stop eating. Now I am in a food coma. 6 Hard Tacos, 2 Burrito Supremes with Shredded Beef, 1 Large Rice, 1 6oz Guacamole, 1 6oz Salsa 1 Medium Bag of Tortilla Chips and a Pepsi. GREAT FOOD! So for the second time in a row we went in after church to get chili Verde burritos wet burritos and some chips and salsa it was $30 and when we got home there was no sauce on the burritos and they were full of rice and beans and some shredded pork. I called the owner and he told me oh you said that last time so just bring them back and will give you your money back which is totally not true $30 for two burritos and they're not at all what we ordered customer service is terrible the food is not what it says on the menu it also said that the burritos were 1150 and I got charged almost $30 do the math I let the owner know that we won't be coming back he just said OK so I don't recommend this place to go eat read more

Best horchata in town. they actually make it there not from a mix. Best carnitas I've had. Pizole and carne asada was delicious too. Their tacos are $1.50 but they are really big. I wish my camera phone was not low on batteries when I was there because the food looked great. although, the good side of not getting photos is that I have to come back to take some! My mother(about 15 years ago) used to send me here to get chili rellanos, which she loved from here and she knew good mexican food. This place is really easy to miss and easy to write off if you're driving by but I find that as far as mexican food is concerned that is normally a good thing. they have improved since I was there last; more seating, new paint, and they take credit cards. They were WAY busier than they used to be. they also have sit down service and are very friendly. First thing when I walked in to pick up my to-go order, they were MICROWAVING my to go order. The food was not good and old. Cheese enchilada they just wrapped on old tortilla with some cheese and threw it in the microwave, Chile relleno was soggy, old, and covered in a wet sauce. Tried this place today based on the Yelp reviews that rang their praises. My friend did the ordering while I waited in the car. My test for a good Mexican restaurant is the quality and taste of the beans and rice. This place did not disappoint! The refried beans were seasoned perfectly, great consistency, tasty and no "bottom of the chafing dish" burnt smell and taste that is so common at many of these taco shops. I got two cheese enchiladas and they actually cooked them long enough to melt the cheese. Delicious and not too much enchilada sauce.....and the biggie...NOT GREASY! My friend and her hubs got carne asada street tacos and that's what I'm getting next time. The flavor of the beef was to die for and did not overpower the meat. Fortunately, we beat the crowd so were seated right away by the nice staff members. We tried their Fish tacos and Chile Relleno. I've had better fish tacos elsewhere, but they were still above average so 3.5 stars. The Chile Relleno was also above average and 3.5 stars worthy as well. Both items were affordable, and the portions were just right. After browsing through their menu, everything appeared reasonably priced. Even though the restaurant is not located in the nicest area, we will still be returning. I want to try more items on their menu. To summarize this experience: 3.5 stars for the food 2 stars for the atmosphere outside the restaurant (sorry) 3 stars for the ambiance inside the restaurant 4 stars for the fast and friendly service Definitely check this place out! I didn't see what other reviewers saw. It was okay, but not spectacular. Especially with the multitude of other Mexican restaurants nearby. El Taquito is a teeny tiny restaurant. It reminded me of a converted Foster Freeze or something. Want dinner and show? Well, this is the heart of Oildale so the motley bunch of characters milling about makes for some great entertainment. I had the pozole, and while it was a large heaping portion, the flavor just wasn't there. It was bland and a bit greasy. Towards the bottom it got kind of grainy. Yes, grainy. It was like dirt at the bottom. It didn't taste good and didn't feel good on my teeth. Looking around, I'm glad I still have my teeth.... I will hand it to them, they are efficient. In less than 40 minutes we were in and out. So if it's cheap and quick Mexican food you're into, try this place. Just be wary of the pozole if you value your grill. read more
