We were told by a friend about this place and they weren't joking. When you first walk in you are greeted right away and sat at your seat. The place was very cute. Not to big which is perfect. Very clean atmosphere, everyone working was very quick to clean the tables after you leave. The food was amazing. I had the steak ranchero and usually when I get this other places the steak is always tough and thin but the steak here was super tender and thick cuts. Great flavor and very friendly service. I would recommend this place to anyone. One of the best Mexican places that I have eaten at. read more

We had a great dinner. Our friends recommended this restaurant on FB so we decided to give it a try. Everything was delicious. My husband said it was one of the most tender steak rancheros he had ever ate. The portions were decent sized & it w was only about $40 for the 2 of us with only water to drink. At 1st, we were upset that a table who came after us was having their order taken 1st but then the waiter apologized & said "i saw you on the phone so i didn't want to interrupt but I'll put your order in 1st". That was great customer service because i hahd gotten a work call. We loved that it's a "hole in the wall" type of restaurant, those are usually the best. We actually passed it by & had to turn around. read more

Stopped in for lunch here with my husband, toddler, and baby today. The food was soooo amazing and the service was honestly so incredible. They were so welcoming and kind which means a lot to me because I have tiny kids and some places make us feel like an inconvenience. This will definitely be a new favorite place for my family. read more

I've always heard good things about this restaurant. We started attending after church on Sundays. It gets busy for lunch but service is quick. Food is hot and really good. The fries are good. Chips and salsa is good. The chile relleno wasn't our fav. I want to try more on the menu but stuck on the basic enchiladas rice and beans. Perfect! read more

Stopped in after taking our girl for some batting practice down the street. This is our #1 go to for Mexican food. They are super consistent and their enchilada sauce is the best I have ever had...from anywhere! Our server was super bubbly and on top of our drinks. It was Saturday, so it was fairly busy..but not too loud. If you have never tried their enchilada sauce...YOU HAVE TO. read more

We went for an early dinner. The food was delicious. The waitresses were nice, but they didn't come around very often even though the place was empty at that time. I don't know, maybe they were getting ready for a busy dinner shift. The restaurant is small but clean and cutely decorated. When you walk in the front door you could smell the food, it smells so good. I got the one item combo with the chile relleno. My grandson ordered the torta plate with carne asada and rice and beans. The chips and salsa were good but the salsa was pretty spicy but tasty. The torta was large and delicious there wasn't a single piece of it left. My grandson devoured it. My chile relleno was very good too, the sauce on it was kind of a brown color instead of the red sauce I'm used to getting but it was delicious. We are looking forward to going back and trying some of their other special items. They only serve beer and wine. They do have a margarita on their menu but i'm guessing it's made with wine. read more

We love coming to La Tapatia! The flavor of the food is always spot on -- fresh, authentic, and full of that real homemade taste. You can tell they take pride in what they make. The service is always great too -- friendly, fast, and welcoming every time we stop by. Whether it's tacos, burritos, or their salsas, everything hits the spot. Definitely one of our go-to spots in Bakersfield when we're craving good Mexican food!!!! the restaurant is always super clean. La Tapatia - Guacamole black and sour cream smelled rotten too - Mexican Near Me - Bakersfield, California

Was in the area and decided to try this place. I found it on Yelp and it had pretty good reviews. The restaurant is diner style with traditional decoration and a lot of tile and brick work inside. There are two seating areas so the restaurant is actually bigger than it looks. I was seated right away and the staff brought me chips and salsa and took my beverage order. Everyone was friendly and professional. I ordered a cup of coffee, which was tasty without the creamer so that is good, and the chips and salsa were pretty standard. I ordered the machaca plate, which comes with rice and beans and your choice of corn or flour tortillas. For me, I can always tell if the Mexican food is going to be good if the rice and beans are authentic and tasty. And sure enough... They were so I was super excited to dig into the machaca. The food was tasty and delicious, however, the eggs were a bit overdone. They were brown, and I am not a big fan of brown eggs so next time I will ask for an easy scramble. I ordered a burrito to go of the shredded beef with rice and beans and asked for it to be topped with red chile verde sauce and cheese. My son said it was delicious. We cannot wait to go back and try the other dishes. Enjoy! read more

Went here to celebrate the father in-laws birthday. Was excited to hear that they chose this place to have dinner since I heard it was one of the best Mexican restaurants in town. I got the fried chicken with chile verde since I heard it was one of their popular dishes. Tbh it was kind of an odd pairing and would prefer them separately. The rice and beans were on par though. Also had a bite of the crunchy tacos which was really good. Over all a good experience. Service was awesome! read more

My daughter visits here quite frequently. So, I finally decided to give it a try. The restaurant is on the smaller side, so not suitable for our family get togethers. . . unless we reserved the whole restaurant. The walls have brick arches inlaid with mirrors which makes the space look larger than it is. ( forgot to snap pics of food and restaurant =[. . . We were seated quickly and the server was prompt in bringing menus, water, chips and salsa. Servers were very attentive and very nice. The chips were a little stale, to me. The salsa had a good flavor. My husband ordered the chilaquiles with "red Chile verde", because my daughter said they had the best chilaquiles. I had a ground beef taco, cheese enchilada - no onion, and a Chile relent, because my daughter said they were better than grandma's!. The rice and beans were really good. The ground beef was lacking flavor but overall was constructed nicely and with fresh toppings (lettuce, tomato, cheddar cheese). The enchilada was so good. The sauce tasted homemade, just like my husband's. The relleno was really good but not as good as grandma's. Would I order it again? Oh yes!. . . lol. . . The relleno appeared to have the same sauce as the enchilada, which was okay for me. My husband was not impressed with the chilaquiles. The portion size was a little small for him and they were not as good as my daughter hyped them up to be. My portions were perfect ( I actually had the majority of the enchilada, relleno, rice and beans to take home for lunch. . . or dinner.) I definitely will be back to try some other things that caught my eye. read more

Best Mexican food spot in Bakersfield. IYKYK. Food is top notch. Service was good as well

This place is lively on a Sunday morning but we were seated immediately. Old school, local vibe with red booths. Homemade and fresh, Very generous portions. They have beer & wine only. We had the chicken corn tortillas and the Kip enchiladas, house specialties. We were so full we didn't eat the rest of the day! Really good! read more

This place is a hidden gem in Oildale, which is a community in the northeast of Bakersfield. The place is a little hidden, with minimal street parking. The food is great though. Good prices, great food, clean restaurant and a respectful and helpful services crew. I don't believe you can go wrong with most items on their menu. Their chips and salsa are on point and you can always ask for a hotter salsa. If you are near the area and are needing a place for lunch or dinner, this is a great place, especially if you're in a rush. read more

Everything is great. The food is authentic, great tasting, actually amazing! The guacamole is real and always delicious. Their red sauce is to die for. Green sauce is to die for. Hands down, some of the best menudo I've had in a while. It was a little on the greasy side, but other than that, no complains. The chips and salsa were good, and the staff was extremely friendly, polite, and overall attentive. We'll definitely be returning. read more

Second time here this past year and really regret it. Me and my partner ordered the menudo. He ordered the large bowl And I the small one. Our food took forever and it was not even piping hot but regrettably just warm. The tripe was too chewy. The menudo was lacking flavor and salt. Very disappointed. We both ordered flour tortillas and received only 2 tortillas. One a piece - so cheap!!! The salsa was more of a spicy tomato sauce. Chips were tasty. The first we came here it was the same. I will never go here again for menudo. read more

This little gem completely blew me away! The food is absolutely incredible--fresh, and so flavorful. Every bite tastes homemade, from the perfectly seasoned meats to the warm tortillas. The salsa had just the right amount of kick. The portions are generous, the prices are fair, and the atmosphere feels welcoming and authentic. You can tell the owners take pride in what they do, and it shows in both the service and the food. If you're craving real Mexican food that tastes like it came straight from someone's family kitchen, this is the spot. Easily one of the best meals I've had in a long time. We decide to go to la tapatia because we haven't been there in years well I kind of see why we haven't been there in years The food is not that great I've never had a tamale that was hard and crusty like it was fried or something tamale shouldn't be crunchy and it was new to me something different when we got in there we sat down of course and one person greeted us inside us down to be honest we didn't know who our waitress was because every time we turn around it was somebody different serving his food and we're like okay so who do I leave the tip to I only recommend this place if you're really hungry if not nah I don't go there The ambiance is okay they need to upgrade stuff cuz you just old and outdated I mean I know what's been there for years but hey you can't leave it the same way it's been for the last 20 plus years we won't be back ever because the service wasn't all that great they lucky I'm giving him a three and I usually don't give anybody a little score like this I can't see my enchiladas was okay I wouldn't run there to get them but they're okay read more

Excellent food, atmosphere and service. We ordered simple cheese and onion enchiladas and they were excellent.

The best food & service! Definitely recommend the chile verde fried chicken or the red chile verde nachos with chorizo!

Everything about this place was amazing. Came back from Washington state for a family event. Drove straight from Burbank airport to here and even after 20 years it does not miss a beat. Food tasted just like I remembered, goose bumps on the first bite. Salsa that slowly heats up the more you eat (40 tortillas later lol) and that tea just really relaxes you. Service is always top notch like you are family and even though some renovations done still feels like the small restaurant I have loved. read more

We always love going here. I never have complaints. This time the beans tasted off though, like dirty water. Maybe the dishwasher used a dirty rag or something. I just didn't eat the beans. Red chile verde burrito, pork meat was dry, the tortilla looked raw. Tacos were of a fast food chain quality. Have I really never done a review?? Their food has always been consistently wonderful. Chili Verde fried chicken so good. Perfectly fried chicken breasts topped with your choice of red or green chili verde. Hubby's favorite is the red. My go to are the Kip enchiladas. Two chicken enchiladas smothered with chili relleno sauce, then topped with Green chili verde cheese and sour cream. I try to branch out sometime, but when you know you just know. Wonderful friendly service every time. It's an amazing long time favorite. read more

This Mexican joint is very unassuming. It's a hole in the wall in Oildale that I have driven by countless times. Small dining room. Fresh chips with a just spicy enough salsa. They break the cardinal rule of no yellow cheese, but it's good Tex Mex style food. Taco shell was house made an crispy. Enchilada was a good size and the sauce was very rich. The relleno was good. Maybe a little to much breading. The sauce on the relleno was very good but had sort of sad brown color. Service was great and prices were fair. I will go again for lunch. read more

Have heard this place is really good and a popular spot decided to give it a try. The customer service was great. The place was clean, but the food was bland not much flavor not real authentic. They did bring out plenty of free chips and salsa read more
