This is my first time here. I don't get out to Arvin California very often so I decided to look up some local Mexican food. The margarita was delicious. Not too strong. The rice was nice and fluffy but not highly seasoned. The flautas were made in flour tortillas with just the right crunch. Both were delicious. Part of my Arvin/Lamont series, El Pueblo has been a staple in this community for years. Even under new ownership, the food still tastes the same, if not, is much better now than ever in my personal opinion. You eat with you eyes first and the plates here are appealing and appetizing to the senses. I normally come here for the half order of Cancun Shrimp. Another favorite of mine is the Camarones a la Diabla. However, I decided to veer off course today and ordered the Beef Flautas. The dish comes with 2 huge flautas. The filling is El Pueblo's signature tender shredded beef and cheese rolled in flour tortilla. The flauta is crisp-fried golden brown and topped with condiments: pico de gallo, sour cream and guacamole. The plate comes standard with beans and rice. Their El Pueblo tea was also refreshing on this particularly hot day. There really isn't anything on the menu that isn't worth trying. If you're not familiar with this restaurant and in the area to attend a business meeting, suggest to come meet here for lunch. It's also a great spot for after-work birthday celebrations. And if you're like me and had one too many margs, you'll end up having pictures wearing the sombrero display. read more

Stopped in for lunch today on my way back from Lamont, not great but not terrible. I went for the red and green enchiladas which is one chile colorado enchilada and one chile verde one with rice and beans. The chile colorado was lacking any real heat, I expected some level of spicy with the colorado but nothing really, the meat was well cooked just not flavorful enough for me. The chile verde had a little bit of heat but not much and it was kind of bland. When I have Mexican food I'm expecting big pops of flavor and it was just lacking here. The salsa is a garden type salsa, no real heat but still good flavor I did enjoy the chips and salsa. Rice and beans were well cooked and pretty flavorful. Might give it another go one day but I won't be rushing back. read more

Staying in Bakersfield for a week and I wanted to go try this place after years of not coming here. I was taken aback when I ordered their lunch special. This here is about $26. If there were more real stuff and no imitation fillers, maybe. This is a rip off. We've been going to El Pueblo pretty often since we moved to the area. We've never been disappointed in either the food or the service. My go to favorite is the giant sized chimichanga. Shredded chicken, shredded beef, beans, and the usual assorted veggies like tomatoes and onions. All wrapped in a huge flour tortilla and fried, smothered with a mild red sauce, with lettuce, sour cream, and their wonderful fresh guacamole. I've never managed to eat the whole thing. Kat almost always goes for some sort of seafood or another, since they do seafood so well. Especially anything with the white sauce. Last night was seafood enchiladas. No, it's not real crab, but they say so right in the menu description. One thing we won't tolerate is someone trying to tell us it's real crab when it's not. Just enjoy your surimi. It's good stuff. They bring two different kinds of salsa with the chips, but they're both too hot for Kat, so a waiter years ago went and got her some of their warm tomatillo sauce, and it's REALLY good. We appreciate the little things like that. Like I said, the service is great here. Friendly, knowledgeable about the menu, and always ready to help out with whatever they can. The pizzas are good in flavor but too much bread, they make them on a pre made crust. Over all their bread is actually better, and the ambiance is that of a typical bread shop, narrow counter. The sauce is very thin and watery. The red sauce that came enchilada tasted like the hot sauce at Taco Bell. I also got a Chile relleno that I'm sure was either pre made or store bought. My food came out in THREE minutes! There is no way that the Chile relleno was dipped in egg whites and fried in that time. Also the consistency of the outer shell was spongey instead of crispy and airy, indicative of store bought Chile relleno. My cousins and I pitched up at El Pueblo in Lovely Lamont a couple of weeks ago. It had been several years since my last visit. Weirdly, the place was virtually empty. I don't get it since the food is actually really good! I ordered the Puerto Vallarta which is a huge seafood extravaganza in a delicious sauce and covered in cheesy goodness. On a diet? Don't do it. We ended up at El Pueblo due to sitter location, but we do enjoy our visits & this time was no exception. Our early arrival on a Friday night was a good idea, as the Bakersfieldian crowd started coming as we were leaving. We walked right in and our friend had a table & had ordered our drinks and 2 appetizer plates for us. One plate of freshly fried nachos and a bean & chorizo dip and the other, a sampler platter of nachos, flautas and quesadillas drizzled in a light chile colorado sauce. Wouldn't have been my call ordering so much food, but I didn't exactly turn it away. ;-) So we went with Shrimp dishes, mine were enchiladas with beans & rice. I don't remember the name of my husband's dish, but he enjoyed it quite a lot. My entree was very tasty with huge pieces of shrimp & crab meat exploding out of the sides of these fajita-size tortillas. I had 3 margaritas, each stronger than the last. The waiter poured my shot of tequila in right at the table...Nice. This is the only mexican restaurant that my family and in-laws will drive for dinner that is outside Bakersfield. It is located on Main St. Lamont, catty corner from Rite Aid. Next to a local gas station. They have enough parking spaces in the surrounding areas of restaurant. Inside is very spacious that it can accommodate big parties and still have enough for small hungry groups. My staple order here is their Cancun shrimp. These are breaded shrimps over tomatillo sauce. Their menu shows the Cancun with 1 dozen shrimps but you have the option to get the half size order. They serve you the starter salsa and chips when you sit down, what my family do different is we ask them to bring us green salsa. I love them with chips! Like all Mexican restaurants, they have the variety of enchiladas (options of meats and cheese), Del Mar's, Vegetables, and sizzling plates. However, I noticed that they don't serve Albondigas (meat ball soup). We never had bad food from this place so we are definitely coming back. read more

Ok, we've been here twice now, and going back soon. We live on the east end of Bakersfield, so all the nicer restaurants in town are a bit of a drive to get to. So we decided to try one out towards home. A quick drive down Weedpatch Highway, (I love that name), and it turns into Main Street in Lamont. I'm gonna say it. As far as I'm concerned, there's no need to drive into Bakersfield for Mexican food. You're not going to get better food, or better service, or a better price, anywhere. There's no question. The service is personal, attentive, and they go out of their way to make sure you enjoy your meal. The servings are HUGE! And the food is DELICIOUS! I had the Muy Grande Chimichanga last night, only ate about a third of it, had to take the rest home. Chicken and Pork, with rice, in a giant sized flour tortilla, with a really good red sauce, sour cream, and guacamole. Kat had a seafood burrito, stuffed with fish, crab, and some other seafood, but it's the sauce that made it. Very tasty. We'll be back soon, and then again, every time we're in the mood for Mexican, especially seafood. read more

Sooo disappointed this evening. The enchiladas de Cameron were not even close to the original recipe. It was like they opened a can of stewed tomatoes and tossed some shrimp and imitation crab into a couple of tortillas then camouflaged it with cheese. I inquired about the change in the recipe and she said it was the same chefNot even close! Haven't been to El Pueblo for a while. But still some of the best Mexican Seafood I have ever eaten. The Puerto Vallarta is outstanding!

On those rare occasions when I go out to visit my friends in Bakersfield (they usually come this way since they live in Bakersfield), we almost always go to El Pueblo. Let me preface this by saying, we always have a designated driver and we always make great use of the cervesa and margarita selections. If you drink, be sure to have a DD because this place is kind of way outside of Bakersfield in a really small town. The food here is awesome (again remember that by the time the food comes out I am usually in a very happy mood because my friends and their drinking habits). I've had or tasted pretty much everything on the menu and it is all good. This is one of those places that takes it upon themselves to lessen the burden of waiting when it is busy by walking around with a pretty good bottle of tequila and topping off your margarita. This might happen more than once with the same margarita, so be prepared. Cheers to my Baco peeps! When we going to El Pueblo next? I had just come over CA 58 and stopped here due to YELP review. It was around 15:30 so there were no cars in the lot, and once inside I was the only one there. So it was a bit odd that It took a few minutes to initially get service, but once service began, it was very good service. They were attentive and well paced. I never felt that I waited for anything, nor did I feel they were 'hovering' My first big criteria for Mexican restaurants is the chips and Salsa. The Salsa was GREAT! It was thick and made with lots of fresh Onions, Tomatillos, etc. It had a great flavor and they serve it in a bowl that is gig enough to hold you for a bit! The chips were good as well. I ordered a Pacifico Beer to drink and the Mug had a thick layer of frost on it. (And I do mean think! Like Rime Ice! ... Perfect!!) When I ordered a second one, I got a fresh frozen mug which was nice. My Entree' was the Rd & Green Enchiladas and a side taco. (Crispy, Beef) The Taco was EXCELLENT. It had a wonderful flavor and next time I will order just them! The I had never had Chile Colorado, and so I have nothing to judge it on, but it was tasty. The Chile Verde Enchilada was a bit of disappointment in that it was bland. HOWEVER, the menu does indicate they can make things spicy, and I had not asked. I don't usually eat a lot of the "sides" but the Refried beans were most likely fresh, and were very good (Yes, I said Refried beans!) The rice was also good. I did not order dessert. Overall, it was a very good food and It is a Family owned place and the service, even taking in to account what I first wrote, was great. I would definitely recommend this restaurant if you are any where near the area. (As I mentioned, I was headed to SF and was coming across 58, and the detour was well worth it!) read more
