We stopped at Jarritos Mexican Restaurant for a quick lunch while passing through. I ordered the mixed fajitas (chicken and beef only). When it arrived, it looked decent -- the beef was pretty good, but the chicken was rubbery and tasted flat-out bad. Definitely not what I expected. The service was painfully slow. At one point, we actually had to go to the kitchen to get anyone's attention. What was supposed to be a quick meal turned into an hour-long stop, mostly just waiting. The restaurant itself is cute and has a great vibe -- it really feels like you're in Mexico. The staff was friendly, but no one seemed to be in any kind of hurry. We were hopeful, especially since the staff only spoke Spanish (usually a good sign for authentic food), but unfortunately, the experience was disappointing overall. I don't recommend this place -- there are other spots nearby that are much better. read more

The food reminded me of my abuelita. I had the Enchiladas Mexicanas. My dad had the chili verde. We both enjoyed our meal. The guacamole abs chips were excellent. Don't come if you are in a rush. They make everything from scratch, so it takes time. I knew the food was gonna taste good. When I asked the waitress what sauce comes on the enchiladas, and she named the specific chile they used. So I just so happened to be out in Arvin working , didn't bring anything for lunch and I was craving Mexican mariscos. It's as if all the stars aligned and it was meant for me to have found this hidden gem, and I'm sure glad I did. My co-worker and I arrived around 10:00am and it was not busy at all, so we sat down wherever we wanted and were attended to right away.The place is not big inside at all but just right,makes it feel homey. Our server was friendly and we had a couple questions about the menu items which she answered without a problem. We started off with the free chips and salsa that she brought out upon greeting us which were delicious, everything sounded good on the menu but ultimately I went with the Campechana, my co-worker ordered the shrimp cocktail and three shrimp tacos.OMG the Campechana was perfect! The seafood inside was fresh and abundant the broth flavorful so good you didn't even have to add anything to it. They have this little bottle of salsa on the tables that's homemade that I highly recommend it's a bit spicy so beware! My co worker devoured his cocktail and tacos and said it was the best he'd had in a while. Just happened to be in Arvin today on a solo mission to scout some Orchards. I picked this place out of the blue and sadly I was a disappointed. Right 9ff the bat the service should of been an indication. Had to repeat myself and point at the menu for the teenage waitress. Then she took my plate to the wrong table. She must have walked my my empty tea glass 5 times. Anyways I digress. I ordered the Chili Verde and it had decent flavor but the meat was dry and tough, the sauce was thin and had not began to set up. As I ate my Chips and Salsa I began to miss my coworker and turkey hunting partner I have never hunted with Joe. Joe would have ordered something with shrimp in it. It would have been hot. I sould have called him for some sage advice. Lesson learned. Good thing I only get down here a couple times a year. Arvin has some of the most authentic Mexican restaurants all lined up along the Main Street. This is one of my favorites, it's been around since I was a baby and it's only gotten better with time. My favorites: Enchiladas Mexicanas these enchiladas come either with cheese or chicken. I always choose chicken because there's plenty of cheese on top of them. They are cooked in a red sauces, fried actually which leaves them with a tad crispy flavor which is perfect. Once rolled up they add plenty of cotija cheese, lettuce, and jalapeños and cabbage in vinagre (vinegar). The best part is the potatoes!! Crispy delicious potatoes cover these already amazing enchiladas. The flavors all combined is like a party in your mouth. You can order 4 or 7. I've also enjoyed their tacos, burritos, breakfast entrees, shrimp cocktail. All of it so good and flavorful. Yum! They also have super delicious chips and salsa which is a great way to start things off. My favorite drink is their pineapple drink. So flavorful and great. Did I mention they serve their drinks in crushed ice?!? What a plus!! You can dine in, order ahead of time and pick up, or order to go there and then. read more

Can all those who are surprised that you can find Mexican restaurants in Arvin, please raise your hand? Anybody? Nobody? I didn't think so. From the outside, Jarritos is a little gaudy (what authentic Mexican restaurant isn't?) and the large painting of the Virgin Mary on a bright orange background might make one question whither it's actually a restaurant or a place of worship. Frankly, the inside is no different. Traditional colorful dresses and sombreros adorn the brightly painted orange walls that ranged in hue from that of a pumpkin to a Navel orange. Two flat screen televisions at opposite ends of the small dining room were broadcasting sports programs while a Mexican radio station blared music adding to the cacophony. Some of my best experiences with ethnic food have been at hole-in-the-wall restaurants so these disharmonious elements did nothing to dishearten me. We were seated by an extremely friendly waitress with a ready smile. My mother doesn't drink soda, so she was excited to see that they had orange juice, horchata, AND pineapple and lemon fruit drinks; usually her options are pretty limited. The lemon lime drink was rather bland but still pleasant, and the orange juice was good. Very friendly waitress kept apologizing for being do slow (she really wasn't). She was quick to deliver home made tortilla chips and salsa. The salsa was good but I wasn't impressed with the chips as they appeared to be freshly made but they were a little too thick for my taste and slightly overcooked. My mom ordered three mini tacos made with chicken (you have your choice of meat), sour cream, and thickly sliced chunks of avocado. The avocado was fresh and very plentiful but the chicken was way overcooked and too dry to chew. She left most of the chicken on the plate and it was honestly a 1 or 2 star dish. The chili verde burrito I ordered was nothing short or amazing - five stars all the way. First of all it was very large, liberally doused with bright green chili verde sauce, and stuffed full of rice and generous chunks of melt-in-your-mouth tender pork. I could barely finish the entire thing and for the next hour my tastebuds were supremely happy and my stomach was uncomfortably overfull. I highly recommend ordering these, but finish it at your own risk. I'm sure they'd be happy to box up the extra for you. The food is tasty. The prices are reasonable. If it hadn't been for my mom's tacos being overcooked to the point of being inedible this place would be a solid five stars all day long! The parking situation is extremely limited, though there is a tiny parking lot you can access through the back alley. I wouldn't recommend using it unless you're pretty talented at backing out of cramped spaces. read more

Fantastic! We just wanted to try something out of Bakersfield. My husband ordered a plate of 5 tacos. 2 Chile verde tacos 2 carne asada and 1 al pastor. I stole a Chile verde meat nugget, awesome! Each taco had 4 1inch cubes of pork in it. It was juicy and tender. He said the pastor was average. I didn't try it. I ordered a carne asada taco salad. It came in a freshly made flour shell and was a very beautifully dressed. I poked around to see how much asada I got. There was so much! The meat was lightly crispy, juicy, nicely diced and seasoned in such a great way. I parked the green table salsa with it. The salsa tasted like a lime avocado salsa. Not a lot of heat, but it was soooo good! I'm sure we will be back for the taco Tuesday deal,0.99¢ a taco. I will say that the menu pictures are outdated on yelp and prices have changed. Great traditional style Mexican food. The best in arvin. They bring you homemade chips to start with a very traditional blended salsa. I always get a wet chile verde burrito, it's amazing. My dining buddy gets traditional style tacos and he usually eats 5 or 6. It's just tortilla, meat, onion, cilantro and chile. Plus they have crushed ice. A local favorite. read more

this Spot has bad customer service. I ordered seven Mexican enchiladas with AsadaThe first time they made it wrong and remade it however when they made it again they did not add the Asada. I went back for them to remake it with the Asada. Instead of remaking the enchiladas they just threw Asada on top of the old Enchiladas And were annoyed by me. The ladies in the back were acting like I was the one making a mistake for asking them to fix my order that they got wrong. This place used to be amazing I don't know what happened. read more

It was the worst service I've had so far un arvin and their I had been their plenty of times and they had great service and yesterday I went in to the buffet they offered I could not get a full plate because they had no food during lunch hour then I asked for a coke and I never got one I waited over 20 minutes for my drink and 15 for food and nothing they told me please just wait so I paid them and left so I will never spend a dollar again they need better service I'm a customer and felt that they didnt care I asked the waiter for a diffrent drink if they had no Coke and he just didnt care to bring one get better service or keep food for your buffet dont offer if you can't keep food in the line thanks read more

I don't like to be mean but gosh party of 7 happened to be in the area passing thru actually. The rice the beans first off were not good and to me that's something that's hard to get wrong it's simple dishes and both missed the mark. The red sauce well the food in general was extremely salty but had no flavor just salt on everything . They have no meat except carna asada no shredded beef no ground beef just asada chewy couldn't even break it down meat. The sauce red sauce is just pure salt . The enchiladas Mexicana had nothing but that salty feta looking cheese with more of it on top no sauce they don't add sauce to anything really. Some of the best Mexican food I've had in CA! We had a variety of the mini tacos and they were excellent. The meats had so much flavor and weren't greasy! Found ourselves in Arvin over the weekend, and decided to eat here based on the yelp reviews, I think 4 1/2 stars. We came in and sat and sat some more, maybe ten minutes later someone takes our drink order, five minutes later we get our drinks. Very nice, they have crushed ice. You just don't see that very many places. We had been there around twenty minutes when they finally took our order. Tables that came in after us had already had drinks and the order taken way earlier than us. Ordered two shrimp cocktails and nachos grande with carne asada for meat. They had bought some good chips and salsa that really did not look good but tasted bomb, it was very smooth almost watery, but had good flavor. They eventually delivered one shrimp cocktail to our table, ten minutes later the nachos, maybe five minutes after that the second shrimp cocktail. The shrimp cocktails were very good, no complaints here. Ate every bite, and drank the juice. The nachos came without forks, no small plates for them, nor were there any jalapeno peppers on them. I didn't think you could make nachos without sliced jalapenos! Anyhow the nachos also came served with overripe slimy avocados that had the consistency of jello pudding and at least one black hair about 3 to 4 inches long. The service was so slow, and inattentive for us, while they took care of all the other tables with good service. We had to ask for EVERYTHING, even forks for god's sake! After waiting a long time we even had to ask for our bill. $36.46 for the ordeal! Literally an hour and twenty minutes. I gave the "waitress" $36.50 in cash and told her to keep the change. Yes the four cent tip was about equal to the service provided. We will not be back. read more

The food was mediocre and the service horrible. My sisters food was filled with hair, a rather long one. The problem was that initially our food took 10-15 minutes to come out. Once we sent it back it literally took 1 minute to come back out, I seriously doubt it was for the prompt cook. The salsa smelled and tasted like leftovers from the weekend. The tripas were soggy and mushy. To top it all off, although I wouldn't expect it, they did not offer to take it off the bill. read more
