Well we have seen this place for years but never have gone inside. Well today was the day. Let me tell you its a no frills little hole in the wall place. There was one server, and its small. Its clean, the letter grade was an A, which was posted. They did have one large table in the back. The menus are posted above each table. More than reasonable pricing. I ordered more than I could eat. My intention was to try things. And Im so glad I did. The food was delicious, and just exactly what I ordered. The menudo I ordered in a small was good. I did add a little salt and its got a little spice but good. It came with two tortillas and I ordered corn. The tamale was tasty and I loved the chile relleno. The cheese enchiladas well they were good, but they are cheese, my husbands dish. Chips and salsa was had good flavor as well. They had fans on it was a little warm but we live in bakersfield and its starting to have warm days. I have every intention to return and try more menu items. The food is great. The lady is very nice. The area is not very good at all a lot of homeless around I almost didn't wanna leave my car out there. It was also over 80 degrees inside of the restaurant so they could probably use an air conditioner in there to benefit the customers. I also use the bathroom there and it was outside and it was gross. They could definitely clean it a little more and add toilet seat covers. so over all the food is good, but it's hot in the restaurant. Very disappointed. I assumed they were going to have really good food, considering they have been around for awhile. Yes, it's in an area that no one goes to anymore, but I like Arizona cafe, I was going to give this place a chance. When you drive up, there's a fence around the place. Walking in there's plenty of tables. The vibe is very authentic. We were told to sit anywhere. We were their only customers at the time. Now for the food. The chips tasted old and the salsa had no flavor at all. My husband had their steak ranchero and I had what they call chili verde. I understand why it's cheap to eat there because they hardly give you any meat. The beans didn't taste good, the rice was okay, and my chili verde tasted like tomato sauce. It was not spicy at all. The salsa was hotter. My husband said the same thing his food tasted like tomato sauce. Mostly tomatoes and bell peppers. The reason for 2 star is because the service was great and the prices are even better. They just need to spice things up, add more flavor, and add just a little more meat. read more

This was disappointing to say the least. We got the Menudo and I was beyond bamboozled at how flavorless and chewy the meat was! I don't think I've ever had worse Menudo in my life (we order it almost everytime we go out). If you want authentic Mexican food DO NOT COME HERE. We decided to get a separate plate of rice and beans... once again we were disappointed. Beans were burnt, and rice was undercooked... RICE! Definitely never coming again. While I talked about the food, let me talk about customer service, it was horrible to say the least. We were the only ones in the restaurant for a good while and even then she took a very long time (around 40 minutes) to ask if everything was okay. Ive been going here since I was a little kid. The food is good the salsa is awesome it's a family owned business the same cooks/waitresses have been there for years. The gorditas and tostadas are my favorite you can call ahead and pick up your order and their prices are so good! I was surprised, didnt expect this tiny joint to be clean, decent, and pretty tasty. They give you chips and salsa. The salsa tasted home made, not canned like most places, and was nice and spicy. I only had a bean and asada burrito, but i enjoyed it. Don't expect a huge monstrous size like a lot of taco shops make. I liked the price point. Simple and tasty best described the experience. My husband has also been going there since he was a child. They used to live near there and would get a coke there after swimming at the Bakersfield Plunge. Back then he said it was a hamburger joint. We frequent it from time to time, less so since retiring. Our favorites have always been the a la carte items such as the chile verde burritos, the carnitas burritos, all of the soft tacos, and especially their tostatas. My favoritye is the shrimp tostada. Everything is fresh, with fresh chopped jalapeno chiles and guacamole. Their chips and salsa is good too. Terrible customer service!! This woman that works there has a TERRIBLE attitude problem. (Short black hair/glasses) she has an attitude EVERY time I go to the restaurant. I'm a young woman who dresses a little Risque; but I'm grown so i don't feel the need to cover up. I don't have my Bum* or nipples popping out. I just wear tight clothes that are very form-fitting... not sure if THIS is the reason she acts that way towards me but surprisingly, I am very humble and sweet so it's the only thing I could imagine she would have a problem with... I would call in orders and she would be very sweet over the phone(I'm very respectful and polite when I speak) but as soon as she SAW me in person her whole demeanor changed! I made orders over the phone quite a bit and it used to happen every time until she recognized my voice and started having an attitude on the phone when she realized It was me!! I've even sat down at the restaurant and she'd IGNORE me!! She would look directly at me and then go back to doing whatever she was doing. One of the other workers noticed she was ignoring me and had to come take my order! And when she did decide to come to my table she would slide the menu on the table and quickly turn around to walk off before I could even get a word in. It's as if she didn't even wanna bother looking at me. And the food took FOREVER!!! When I called my food in It was done in less than 10 minutes every time!!! The area is known for prostitution so I'm guessing she's thinking I'm one of them? Regardless if that's the case or not her actions are uncalled for. I stopped coming here for that reason but I decided to come back because I was starving and their food is great! This time there was a hair in my food and my fork looked like they got it from the FLOOR!!! Aside from the sauce on it in the picture I posted there's little black traces of lint and who knows what. I just felt like this was the last straw I refuse to go back or even call to complain because im not going to get anything but a free meal probably filled with more hair and poison. Everyone else gets such excellent service and if I were to put a hidden camera on my clothing You guys would SEE what I'm talking about. Place looks run down outside. But inside feels and smells like grandmas house! The plates and drinks are cheap and most of all the food was great!!! We were hungry going to EDC last year so we got off the exit of freeway and ate here because the sign"MexicanFood" haha. We left full and happy! After coming back home. I've been here easily dozens if not hundreds of times since the early 80s--30 years plus--so trust me on this one: There's only one thing bad about this place--the neigborhood. OK two things: the decor, or lack thereof--but who cares--go here for the food--as it should be. Personal favorites: Chile verde--in a bowl or burrito, chile colorado, and the salsa--all unequaled IMHO. Check out the other reviews--many mention DECADES of patronage--do you know even a single place you can say that about? In the Patch or anywhere else?Somebody should do a documentary on this place.
