From the outside it looks like Rancho Grande would be bigger but inside it's like one big open room. It was packed last night around 6:30PM. Thank goodness my co workers already had a table by the time I got there. Tables are a bit small and close together but the atmosphere remained intimate rather than crowded. The staff went above and beyond and were just delightful! Awesome job fellas! I had two different drinks and they were BOMB!!! My favorite was The Paloma, I give it a 10 out of 10! Came in with the intention of picking up some Tacos on Taco Tuesday for $2/each to go, then going to hang out with some friends. Unfortunately we have to dine in to get the $2 tacos or if I were taking them to go they'd be $3.50 each. Sadly we ended up staying and our friends couldn't join us so they missed out. The food was great! I enjoyed a combination of Carnitas, Birria and Al Pastor tacos. My wife and kid also got their mix of chicken and asada tacos as well! All of which were delectable! For our drinks we had a regular and a Mango Margarita. Both were great! Our server was super friendly and would check on us frequently to ensure we were getting the best experience possible. Overall the restaurant is beautiful, clean and well air conditioned. First of all the themed artisan furniture was super cute. The chips and salsa was very good a little heat but not so much it killed me, the guacamole was delicious, fresh and Big enough for 4 people. I ordered the mixed fajitas, steak and chicken which was also big enough to share. They were both very flavorful but the steak was a little tough. My husband ordered the white enchiladas and he loved them. Both of us normally ignore the rice and beans but these were so good we both ate them. Definitely recommend we will be back for sure ! Do not sleep on this place, came because of my husbands co-workers suggestion. He did not disappoint at all!! Never had such fresh chips and salsa in my life, and I'm a huge Mexican food fan. My mom lived in Mexico for my entire childhood and I've had lots of great food in Vallarta and Bucerias Mexico. When the food came it was just hit after hit. Our Lake Tahoe Trip back to Los Angeles was long and tiring so we wanted to quench ourselves with Mexican food. Yelp gave us Rancho Grande Mexican Grill in the heart of Bakersfield, California, home of the real Mexican communities, accordingly to most of the reviews. Rancho Grande Mexican Grill is located on a strip mall on Panama Lane, a couple of miles from the Freeway 5 Exit, very accessible to passing motorists and customers. I enjoyed their Carne Asada, one of the best I had so far, medium cooked, perfect beans and rice, a chile and perfectly served by our server Rosita. Before, all these foods were served, Rosita our server brought a plate of freshly cut avocados, salsa and a huge stone plate where he nicely showcased her guacamole-making skills and talent. Wow! We also had the shrimp (Gambas) entree and was excellent, prepared with some Alfredo like sauce and other veggies, it tasted like a 5 star dish. The salads were equally fresh and my sister wiped that out, too. Her comment was that, why don't other Mexican restaurants be like Rancho Mexican Grill? LOL Their soup was equally amazing and it quench my thirst of real food after a harrowing experience from our Lake Tahoe trip. I really do love this place.. it's honestly one of the best Mexican spots in town. However, they seriously need to improve the communication and accuracy with phone orders. I've had well over 10 incidents where my order was completely wrong, causing me to get all the way home only to realize I have to drive back and get it fixed. No matter how clearly you explain your order over the phone, somehow you still end up with something completely different and questioning your own sanity. The pickup times are also frustrating. They'll tell you 10-15 minutes, so you give them 20 minutes just to be safe, only to arrive and find out your food still isn't ready and sometimes you're waiting another 15 minutes after that. It's not just me, either. The same thing has happened multiple times to my family and friends. It's especially irritating because the food is genuinely SO good and this is one of our favorite Mexican spots in town. I just wish the phone ordering process was more organized and consistent because having to double check every order or make a second trip shouldn't be the norm. This place is such a favorite that I forget how awful the phone orders are and I forget to check! read more

This was the 1st time I visit this establishment. It was quite busy due to the concert that was happening on this day so I took that into consideration in my review. This is a very small place too. Not really good for big parties because of the space. On this visit we had reservations which were a plus and they did their best to seat our party. We probably wait 15-20 after our reservation time. When we finally got seated we had our drink order taken. We all got our drinks but 1 person in our group waited an additional 15 to get his drink which was just a fountain drink. We asked for separate tickets and they said ok. Our order was the Shrimp fajitas and boy were these so good. The flavor was perfect and the beans had great flavor too. I ordered huevos rancheros and a carne asada taco. Coffee was the best part of my meal. The sauce on the huevos rancheros just want not as authentic as I expected. Beef (carne asada) just was not so great. I clearly asked if they used ranchera cut of beef and they didn't have it. Definitely wasn't ribeye because there was NO fat on the meat. I went on a Daddy Daughter date with my two daughters and found this place by mistake after going the wrong way down Panama. That wrong turn led us here and we are happy that it did. I'll leave my review in 3 parts. Server - Our Main server was Maria and she was an AWESOME server . Aside from Maria there was a sweet older woman who came right over to our table not 2 minutes after we sat down and brought us chips and salsa and took our drink order. Which came out like 30 seconds later. This woman needs a raise. I didn't see her stop running back and forth the entire time I was there. Ok, back to Maria. Maria was awesome. She was quick to take our order and get it out to us. Every single time she passed by our table, she made sure to ask if we were good. My bill was $72.14 (for food) ($100 total with tip). Me and my daughters ordered. Bean and cheese burrito plate. 2 Enchiladas combination plate. Shrimp Fajitas. Complimentary chips and salsa. The chips and salsa were fire ! Warm chips and the salsa was fresh too. No complaints there at all. My plate. (Shrimp) came out steaming hot on a skillet with a side plate of rice, beans, guacamole. And the portions were huge ! Same goes for the other two plates. As soon as me and my daughter's seen the plates we said - "Yeah this is about to be good" and it was. This was my first time eating here. I received a warm, friendly greeting upon entering and was seated right away. The restaurant was very clean and the restroom was as well. I was there during the lunch special time so I got the combo plate with a shredded beef hard taco and a shredded chicken enchilada with rice and beans for just $15.95. I've been here for lunch and the food was good. I thought I'd give it a try for breakfast because I really wanted pozole and saw it on their menu thru Yelp. They no longer serve it because it was discontinued...which was a bummer, but I figured I'd just order something else. My son and I both ordered green chilaquiles and they were the most horrible and sad example of chilaquiles I've ever tasted. The presentation was great. Salsa looked appetizing and there was scrambled egg on top. I noticed that they were covered in raw red onion. Which was weird considering that there was already an over abundance of cooked onion mixed in with the sauce. The salsa completely lacked any flavor. It wasn't zesty, it wasn't spicy, it wasn't anything but bad. The rice and beans were ok. My son pulled three hairs from his food. We both left about half of the meal, got up to pay, and left. There are several mexican restaurants in Bakersfield I've been to many of them. Let me tell you this is the best one around: the ambiance is perfect the decor is awesome and unique. They have very fresh chips the salsa is out of this world delicious has very good flavor and spice. They have a wide variety of items to choose from appetizers to main courses and deserts. There are a lot of great Mexican spots in Bakersfield and I'd heard great things about Rancho Grande, but it just wasn't my favorite. I'll start off with some positives though. Our large party was able to get seated immediately for lunch. They had cute Christmas decor already set up and were quick to provide us with service. Our food came out immediately. The rice and beans with my dish were delicious and really enjoyable. I also liked that the salsa that came with the chips had a nice picante kick to it! I ordered the mole enchiladas and they were a miss. The chicken inside was really dry and the mole wasn't as flavorful as I had hoped. It'd be worth trying something else but I wasn't impressed. The staff are very friendly here as well as attentive. The atmosphere is is slightly more traditional than the other locations in town. The music is traditional music as if you were in Mexico. The food just as good as the other locations in town. The only knock here is the lack of booths, as in none. But the good. I was craving good Mexican food and stumbled upon this treasure. Everything from the food to the service was outstanding. It's a beautiful and colorful dining experience with a usually full dining room. I ordered the carne asada medium rare and when I received it unfortunately it was cooked well done. I let my waitress know and she immediately handled it and was so kind and got me a whole new plate to make up for it!! They handle the situation quickly and the re-make was absolutely delicious!! I ordered the fajita burrito with chicken and shrimp on my husband ordered a plate that came with three different kinds of meat, it had chili Verde, Mole, and another one in red sauce some kind of ranchero.
