Don Perico's has been a Bakersfield staple for years. They have multiple locations and all offer the same high quality Mexican food for reasonable prices. After our most recent visit, my dad is convinced they have the best Chile Colorado in town, and I may just have to agree. We actually went twice in the span of a week. If that isn't a testament I'm not sure what is. Always great service and plenty of smiling faces around the restaurant. We celebrated my great grand mother's birthday at their White Ln location, so Don Perico's will always have a special place in my family's heart. There are quite a few restaurants in Bakersfield that are Americanized-Mexican food. Don P's falls into that category for me. They seem to be crazy popular here in town and in all my time living in town I had never visited them. Our friends love Don P's so we have been a few times. This place is huge, and gets consistently packed but the good thing is there is no real wait. We usually are able to get seated right away. They really need to fix their tables, each time we have gone the tables wobble like crazy, making eating and drinking with friends a dangerous game of teeter totter. Service is pretty quick, and depending on the server it can be really great or mid. Sometimes they are on it and sometimes they forget all your stuff and your order. Food is pretty good. I really enjoyed their chicken burrito. I'll go back whenever our friends want but I believe there are better places with better food, drinks and prices. read more

I have visited this place so many times it has started to gain sentimental value and a family favorite. We enjoy the Sunday brunch, though we haven't been in a long time and hopefully they still have them. Many years ago we held our rehearsal dinner here. And now we have the occasional family dinners here. We always get the fajitas. The chicken or the steak are both are great. The kids enjoy the bean and cheese burritos, enchiladas, quesadillas. I was invited to dinner on a taco Tuesday. I knew it was a bad idea, but went any way. We waited about 15 minutes to get a table. Not bad. After we were seated, we got chips and salsa. One order for 5 people. Not enough. Drinks came later. Chip refill came waaayyyy later. Food took about 30 minutes. No drink refills or any other service available. We had to take extra napkins from the taco bar. My fajitas were good. The chili verde burrito was actually a bean burrito, but was switched out pretty quickly after we caught our server. I wish they had more people working. I felt bad for the staff running around like crazy people. Service was not good because of that. read more

It's almost always good. Sometimes the chips aren't fresh and usually need salt. That's a bummer. The patio is good when they're empty but it's a party place during games so it will be loud and you will be getting some second hand smoke. The salsa is a little spicy for me lately. The shrimp, which was moist and tender, was served in the Best Ranchero sauce I have had in Bakersfield. They serve a chunky style salsa with their chips. There are TVs in the dining room & bar. I want to give a special thank you to my server David. I left my to go box on the table as I was leaving. He caught up to me with it. I found my go to Spanish restaurant in this establishment. Waits staff are attentive, ambiance was relaxed when I came and it gotten busy. I like the happy hour drinks and their happy hour foods. I ordered my favorite shrimp enchilada, and "oh Boy" I had a great time eating it. I enjoyed the shrimps that is abundant, the taste is so authentic complete with frijoles and Spanish rice. This is my favorite place in town, I come monthly at least once! it's my favorite for food and drinks it's always so clean and the vibe is just everything. I always sit in the bar and we are greeted so fast and brought chips and salsa - if u ask sometimes they have that green sauce I forgot the name rn but it's to die for- the servers are always so kind and sweet and the service is so fast, you can't go wrong. This is the best Don Perico's, IMO. The atmosphere is decent, Happy Hour is great, at least on Thursdays. HH starts at 3pm. $5 margaritas and appetizer specials. And the margs are really good and potent! We had (between the 4 of us) 6 margaritas, 1 large draft beer and a huge plate of nachos for a little over $60!. Staff is super friendly. Ordered takeout on a week night around 5 PM. We ordered shredded beef taquito appetizer, an ala cart kids,, bean, and cheese burrito where I specifically asked for no rice and beans. Two chicken tacos and a combo meal with chips and salsa. I asked that all the condiments for the taquitos go on the side. when we got the food. The portion size was good. However, the kids being a cheese burrito was covered in cheese and and was unable to be picked up to eat they still gave him beans and rice, which fine I'll take the extra food. when I opened up the appetizer taquitos, the sour cream and green avocado sauce were smeared all over the entire box so much so that the taquitos were extremely soggy. They ignored my request to put the condiments on side. We got a nice large bag of chips with no salsa. The combo meal we ordered came with taquitos and a tostada, but the tostada was more like a mini taco salad it was definitely not a typical tostada it was a bowl shaped fried flour tortilla I'm not sure what happened there. Breaded chicken tacos were pretty good but got dry quickly because there was no salsa to add to them. All in all the overall service was okay but I really wish they took more care and packing our food. The money I spent on takeout is the same money I would spend going in overall I will return but it's not my first choice. read more

I normally go to the one on white lane, but today I met my husband for lunch at this one because he works in Rosedale. I don't know what's going on but they weren't busy, they had a hostess and one waiter. He sat me and brought me out my soda and chips and salsa while I waited for my husband. My cup had salsa all over it that spilled out from the salsa, and there was salsa all over the outside of the cup it was in. My husband gets there, and ordered a coke. We were ready to order and waited for 10 minutes. We were about to walk out, then our server came over. Like I said they weren't busy and he had walked by our table 4 times. They have awesome fajitas. I've also had their taco salad and it is good. Their chips could be better, but they have a Chili Verde dip I've been told is awesome but you have to ask for it. I recently went here for my first time. My meal and margarita was absolutely fantastic! They have really good chips and salsa, so try not to fill up on them. I really appreciated that their salsa was loaded with onions. I order a combination platter that had a taco and an enchilada. The platter isn't the prettiest looking, but don't let that fool you. It was delicious! The enchilada had such a flavorful Chile verde sauce. The whole meal really hit the spot. All of their margaritas looked good, but I ordered the jalapeño margarita on the rocks. Carnitas tacos with rice and beans. Worst carnitas ever. Never had dry, flavorless carnitas before until now. Many pieces were burnt and my mother just ended up pulling all the pork out and just eating the toppings. We asked if this was typically how they prepare their carnitas and showed the waiter, his response was, "This is how we do it." The rice and beans were ok. I had the chili verde and my only complaint was the chili verde wasn't (temperature) hot. I can't say we will be in a rush to come back here. How do you eat fajitas to go without tortillas? This establishment does not expo food orders!!! At $18 a pop, the owner/manager doesn't feel more than an apology is necessary. Gabe said he could discount the tortillas next time I place an order LOL Apparently discounting half the bill since I could only eat half my meal doesn't make sense to them. Really?? And what is worse is how their waitress Nancy speaks above and over you on the phone!! She also said Gabe is the owner and manager for all locations, which is a lie. First and last time here unless I get a full refund!!! I'm willing to remove my post then and only then. Funny how Gabe (the owner??) has lost the receipt from my order placed with the older waiter Caesar, but they were able to fully charge my card...just a sorry will not suffice. it was all right. the rice was good, but i didn't much like the dark meat chicken in the arroz con pollo. it was a good dish, and the tortillas were good, but i wasn't expecting it and there was some gristle. the ranchero sauce on it was pretty yummy. the salsa was tasty, with nice warm tortilla chips. and my companion said the mango margarita was very good and sweet. it looked like a very nice texture. the service was also awesome, very nice and quite fast. it was not too busy on wednesday night just before close. the interior was fine. read more
