I went to this restaurant on Mother's Day and it was very busy as expected. I went around 3:30 PM with my family, a party of 5. We were seated about 10 minutes after arriving. One of the first red flags was that the hostess led us to the table and did not even give us menus to look at. I had been watching them seat other tables while I was waiting and they provided the other tables with their menus right away. We had to hunt down the hostess to ask her to bring us menus to look at while we waited for the waitress. It took about another 10 minutes after being seated to get chips and salsa and for the waitress to take our order. We waited 1 hour before any of our food had arrived. The waitresses did not come to check on us at all in that time frame. Only at about the 45 minute mark were we brought another plate of chips and salsa. I noticed that we were not the only table with no food. I saw chips and salsa go to every table around us, but no food was coming out. I had my elderly parents and disabled sibling at our table waiting for food. About 10 minutes after we received our second plate of chips and salsa, I went up to the counter and flagged a waitress down. I stated that my family and I had waited for almost an hour for food and that no one has come to check on our table. The waitress rudely responded that we weren't "the only ones waiting." I informed them that I understood that and pointed out that no one in our section has gotten their food yet, only chips and salsa have been coming out. We eventually got our food about 10 minutes after I called the waitresses out. By this time, it was about 5:00 PM when we got our food. The food itself was average and not worth the wait. When it came to paying, the waitress was quick to bring us our check. The only problem was they brought us the wrong check. They brought us another tables check. We were about to pay it when another waitress that had taken our order came over and corrected our bill. It was understandable that they were busy since it was Mother's Day and it was obvious from the start, however the customer service was horrible. The least they could've done is check on us every so often to give us updates on the food and offer us refills on our drinks. Everytime the waitresses walked by in the hour that we waited, they would just stare at us and keep walking. In these instances, I don't think it's the fault of the waitresses and definitely not the cooks. It is definitely a reflection of poor management. We came in here today for shrimp cocktails deep fried red snapper and 12 empanadas as this is our "forever" order. The young lady asked us if we would like to sit at the first booth on the left closest to the bar. As we look towards the booth, the mariachi band standing in front of the bar started up at probably 90 to 100 decibels. The music was so fucking loud I would not sit there and eat if they paid me the $100 to eat there. As we turned to walk away she offered us a table out on the patio and it was 114 degrees when we parked our car outside. We just left and ended up with lame ass food from Sizzler but we did not have to listen to the band trying to blow our eardrums out. The music was so loud that if it were that loud on an industrial/worksite hearing protection would be required. And that does not take into account the part when they come directly to your booth or table as it is even more loud up close. read more

By the way Paris is this young talent in Bakersfield with an angelic voice that sings Selena songs ! On Saturday they have another girl that sings and takes requests she is pretty good too! The food is delicious! I ordered the chicken fajitas which by the way were grilled to perfection and were full of butter! I am usually not a big fan of butter but it have the chicken juicy and burst with flavor! My ultimate favorite dish here are the camarones a la diabla; the hot sauce that they pour is amazing! My niece ordered the regular shrimp tacos, the shrimp was bread to her liking, the tortilla was warm and tasty, the cabbage slaw was nicely cut...the one thing she didn't care for was the side of mayo used as a condiment...other than that she enjoyed it. I on the other hand ordered the crispy shrimp tacos. My shrimp was breaded to perfection, the tortillas were fried to a golden crisp....a medley of lettuce, tomato, purple onion were set on top of the tacos. It was as if you were getting a taco "salad". The food was excellent, hands down the best Taco Tuesday deal in town. I had shrimp fajitas, and the shrimp was cooked to a rubbery rock, the veggies were over cooked and floating in some sauce- it was not real fajitas, probably the stuff in the bag that some restaurants use. My friend ordered us some of the shrimp empanadas and were okay, but greasy. My friend had the pasta which I didn't try, she said it was good. We happened to be in the area when a friend suggested we stop by for lunch. It was full of people so business is good. We ordered fish tacos which were out of this world. Wow did they ever hit the spot. It's been a long time since we had great fish tacos and we both loved them. The service was also very good. Came here for lunch with my husband ahen we were in the area. We sat outside and were welcomed by the waitress. She was very sweet and gave great customer service. We ordered the shrimp empanadas to try as and appetizer. They were AMAZING. Full of shrimp and very flavorfull. For our main dish we ordered the vuelve a la vida. They brought us our dish and i immedialty smelled something similar to a dirty diaper. I thiught maybe it was a nearby house that had fertilized their yard since we were outside. I took a bite of my food and it was the food!! It had raw oysters and the oysters were bad! Definitely not fresh!! My hsuband and i scooped them all out of our food and informed the waitresa. I couldnt eat my food after because the water in the oysters was in the dish and it spoiled the flavor of the dish. When we went to pay the guy at the reguster gave us a 5 dollar discount only and stated to us that it was 'because it's a different species of oyster. Its not bad, is a different flavor.' We've had many oysters and FRESH oysters have a saltwater/sea flavor. We are going to give them another try for cooked stuff. This place is AWESOME!!! My husband and I take throw-a-dart-on-the-map kinds of weekend trips and on one of my birthdays, we decided to adventure. It was either Bakersfield or Santa Barbara and, for some reason, Bakersfield just called to us. We, then, asked her where we might get good local Mexican food (and then I added, "I could eat some seafood"), she said, "Well, there's this place I like, but it's not in a great neighborhood - it looks kind of dangerous". PERFECT. After some convincing, she gave us directions on how to get there and off we went. We arrived to a crowded room of festive people in festive chairs and a loud Mariachi band. (at this point, should I mention that my husband, a caucasian, and myself, a Filipino, were the only non-Latino folks at the joint so either we were really self-conscious or they were really all kind of staring at us?) A friendly host seated us, followed by another friendly server. I ordered garlic fish, he ordered lime fish. I think we stopped talking to each other for about 15 minutes while we each savored our bites (and I stole a few bites of his dish). YUMMMM!!! A few months later, we drove back for lunch and brought some friends with us... Everyone (except me) ordered the same dish - LIME FISH. I ordered a whole friend fish (I'm filipino - of course I eat the face!). The only reason they are getting a 4 instead of a 5 is because our friends also ordered some empanadas that seemed a bit non-descript. (A bit of warning about the lime fish: it's VERY SOUR and salty. It's a bit intense and if you don't like sour, then it may not be the best fish you've ever had :) We drove 2 hours from LA just to have lunch here and then drove back to LA that day. So far out of any Mexican seafood restuarant in town, this is by far my favorite! Although this place gets busy, it's worth the wait. The prices are typically don't go over $15.00 for any entree. The ceviche de camarones (shrimp), camarones de ajo (garlic shrimp) and camarones (shrimp) wrapped bacon are freakin amazing! The rice that comes with it has vegetables (which typically I don't care for) but nevertheless, the whole dish is good. The green sauce is PICOSO! (hot but delicious!) They lose out on 1 star because of the level of service when it gets really busy and the salsa. The salsa reminds me of a pathetic attempt of making ketchup into salsa... =/ If they fixed at least the salsa aspect then I'd give it a total of 5 stars. They have live mariachi bands and karaoke, so it's not a quiet place to eat. This is in a "seedy" part of the "Eastside" however, you're fine during daylight hours.
