3 combination plate with chicken and beef tacos and cheese enchilada
    Bethany R.

3.5 stars Synopsis: Food was good, drinks really yummy, and decorations for Christmas were really festive. Service was just ok and prices are pretty high. We went on a Tuesday night at 6pm. It wasn't very packed maybe 25-40 percent full. They have 2 banquet/large party rooms and one family was in one of them. The rest of the restaurant was sparse for a party of two away from The cold breeze/wind from the door they host said to we should go the tall tables in the bar area. We sat and waited a few mins and then someone dropped off chips and salsa. A few more mins later we had our server who was also the bartender taking our drink order. Then eventually our meal order. We asked for waters and they eventually came out with our mixed drinks. Food came out a few mins after. And the drinks were really good and the food was delicious. I had enchiladas suizas and hubby had the combination plate with 2 tacos and a cheese enchilada. It was hot, perfect juicy flavor, great food. We enjoyed our food and drinks but it was pretty pricey - 2 basic entrees and 2 mixed drinks was $70 before tip and a credit card usage charge. Service could be improved for the price you are paying. I know they are in a pricey area so I get that but the service quality was not matching the prices. it seemed like they were low on staff? It was a bit strange to be seated at the bar area that was the most full area of the restaurant and only have the bartender serving everyone in that area and making drinks for all the orders in the main room. My opinion -they could really benefit from a happy hour, I didn't see one advertised or on the menu, but a few discounted drinks and appetizers would draw in more people

Well I am not sure why I missed this place until Friday when I ordered food for my office lunch . I got so excited I went there again on Saturday night lol we really liked the ambiance the food and the customer service there . Some may think the prices are little high but hey you pay what you get right . Chicken and shrimp fajita and shrimp taco was great and my mango margarita was the best . Love it . If you are not there try it you will love it . My guarantee

This is my new favorite Mexican restaurant in Bakersfield. Everything is so good. The fresh made guacamole and salsa and the cheese dip are delicious. The waiters are very attentive and kept up with everything. Everything tastes really fresh you can't go wrong with the Cadillac margaritas either, they are massive! The vibe inside is quite nice. It's different than most Mexican restaurants. It's almost like a higher end restaurant. Everything I've had here has been good so I can't complain. I really like the fresh tortillas too.

There were 24 of us at a luncheon today. Our servers were greet. The wait time was very short. And the food was good as always. Recommend patronizing this local gem.

Always perfect! Such a pretty place and the food is amazing! Wonderful staff we just love it!

The refined Sol y Luna restaurant is a wonderful option for lunch! I recently dined inside with my husband and was so pleased I went again with friends, sitting outside on their lovely patio. We ordered off their ample Lunch Special menu, and their vegetable enchiladas with rice and pot beans are a fave, and for just $14.75, a terrific value. All dishes we've sampled thus far are beautifully served, and delicious. Joshua is an attentive server. Give Sol y Luna a try!

We always have a great experience at SYL. The staff is very friendly and attentive. We love it there. It was my son's birthday and this restaurant was his choice, when he could have gone anywhere. We really like the decor. You feel as if you're in a Mexican restaurant but it is classy and feels special. This is great place for a date as well as a large family dinner. The food is always amazing. The salsa has to be one of the best in Bakersfield. I ordered the shrimp relleno. Chicken mole was also ordered. They make their own mole and you can tell. There was also a steak dinner that was devoured. You really can't go wrong with anything off their menu. The drinks were strong and tasty! I appreciate a good margarita. Generous size glasses. You won't be disappointed. Enjoy!

I'm just not a fan. I like fun decor, comfortable seats, and good food. I want to relax and indulge. This is not the place for that. It looks very nice and fancy, so for people wanting the upscale experience this is perfect. The higher prices matched that experience as well as but not the food. The food was average at best. Like cafeteria food. And it was the same food you get from any Mexican restaurant, just not as good and more expensive. There didn't appear to be any unique offering. To add to the experience, our server had an air of superiority that was very off-putting. Not friendly and not helpful. It was very hard to get refills or more chips and salsa. The restaurant itself was cold. Any every time someone opened the door, most of the restaurant got blasted with freezing cold air. I saw people at other tables getting annoyed with it too. Like for the love of all that is good and holy, shut the door!!! I absolutely hate doing low stars on businesses. I just really did not enjoy this and for me it's a 1 star. But there were plenty of people there that seemed to dig the boujee experience, but I do not. Especially when the food doesn't match up.

We've been here three times. Twice for a celebration and once for a date night. Every meal has been delicious and fresh! Drinks are perfect, service was attentive and excellent each time! The manager was there two of the times and checked on us both occasions. She was very involved with the staff as well as interactive with the patrons, I love seeing that. The decor is gorgeous- from the plates, the chairs and tables, the bar, dining rooms, all of it. Plus, they offer alfresco dining too. They have at least one room that can be used for parties or meetings, as well as the ability to close the doors to the bar to separate that as well. One of my favorite things that's unique about this restaurant is that there is a little windowed room in the main dining area that you can watch someone make your tortillas by hand fresh! Totally unique and cool to see that, as well as knowing your tortillas are made there fresh daily. If you've never been, you should make this spot a priority for lunch, dinner, or book a celebration.

We really enjoy the fast and attentive service from Josue every time we come here. We tend to be late diners, so we love that the place isn't packed and isn't loud or bustling. The food is delicious and portions are big enough for two.

When I have a hankering for mole, this is where I go. I mean they have other great dishes and don't forget the tortillas are always freshly made! But the mole... I mean how can it be so rich, spicy and layered with flavors? Obviously they make it in house, nothing tasting that good comes from a jar. I mean maybe you don't like mole, but have you tried this one? It's one mind-changing mole... I know people who decided they actually like mole after trying this one. Okay so the service is ALWAYS superb, the chips and salsa are really good and there's an extensive drink menu. It's a place to go for a nice dinner, date or special event. But it's also a place that beckons me on a Tuesday evening, when I just stop in, sit in the bar and order dinner. If you haven't tried it, you simply must, and try the mole.

First off it was a steady flow of customers for a Wednesday evening. Many birthdays! We were sat immediately and waiter came to take our drink order. I had a mango chamoy margarita, while my husband got a roasted chili cucumber margarita on the rocks. His drink was SPICY! I ordered the shrimp fajitas and my husband ordered the chicken and steak molcajete. Our food was brought out super fast! The portions - humongous! But the food is so good! My husband is super picky when it comes to Mexican food, and he said this molcajete is his favorite so far compared to other Mexican restaurants we've been to. I couldn't really taste the difference between the Paloma and the margarita ‍. The place is decorated really nice but what they should've focused on was making agood food. Shrimp skewers I was told was okay but even that had more veggies than actual shrimps. The rice wasn't cooked all the way. The presentation on nachos was excellent but the nachos were gross. No flavor in guacamole. Beans were plain beans bland af. The chicken wasn't seasoned and had an awful charbroiled taste, just awful! The salsa weren't spicy or tasty. The place is pretty easy to find on the corner of 18th & R. There isn't a lot of seating for more than parties of 4. We were a party of 6 and we all smooshed into a horseshoe booth inside. There are only 2 of these booths available and they indicated they are not able to place additional seating at the booths. I imagine you might be able to put tables together outside for a larger party. We were greeted warmly, and while I felt overwhelmed by the amazing choices, the gal taking our order put me at ease by walking me through the menu board. We got amazing carnitas quesadillas and tacos and another dish that came on top of a mound of delicious fries. It's the kind of place where you order, then sit down and they bring you the food. Before my guest even arrived, I was told the kitchen was closing in 10 minutes, which made it impossible to plan or order properly for both of us. About 30 minutes after being seated, the waitress asked to close out my tab and mentioned they were closing an hour and a half early, something that should have been communicated when I walked in so I could have chosen to go elsewhere. The food was absolutely delicious, which is why I'm leaving this review, but unfortunately the service missed the mark during our most recent visit. We ordered our steak medium rare, but it came out well done. When our server took our order, our appetizers arrived quickly and then our entrees followed, but we had to remind him about the Starry soda that was ordered and never brought out initially. The biggest issue occurred when the Aguachile Ribeye was brought to our table. One of the plates was broken, causing food and sauce to spill all over me and the seat. While the server acknowledged something happened, there wasn't much concern shown about the spill on my shorts, and no replacement plate was offered. A simple apology and a little more attention to the situation would have gone a long way. Later, when we asked for a box for the leftover steak, it took quite a while and I ended up having to remind our server again. Overall, the food was fantastic and is the reason I continue to come back. The kitchen clearly knows what they're doing. However, the service could use some improvement, especially when it comes to attention to detail and handling issues when they arise. I'll still be back because I genuinely enjoy the food, but I hope the service experience improves on future visits.
