    Lengua tacos

I'm very picky and love to cook so I don't really eat out. I was driving back home from working in Bakersfield and was hungry. I was hesitant to come bc of the mixed reviews but I'm so glad I did. The tacos are freaking amazing! As if I was in Mexico!I ordered 2 lengua tacos large and they came with lots of meat and guacamole inside of them. I love guacamole. They are very very filling! I could've been fine with one taco.

We were staying in Willowbutton on July 4th on our way back to AZ. Nothing but fast food was open and we were hoping to try something local. Searched local and found Rocy's in the nearby town of Shafter and both my husband and daughter and I felt it was the best local Mexican we've had. And we live near Phoenix. Take the drive out to the country town. It's worth it. I had Carne Asada Quesadilla, my hubs had the Carnitas plate, and my daughter had asada tacos. The guacamole was light and fresh, the meat perfectly seasoned and the right amount of char. The refried beans... lovely. Huge portions and the only drawbacks are that they are cash only and they don't serve alcohol. But go of your way and eat here. Sooo gooood!

Tacos!! Lengua up front, cabeza in the middle, carnitas in the back. And pastor to the left.

Hello Shafter, how have we not talked about Rocys!? The tacos are delicious! Tried the pastor, cabeza, carnitas, and lengua. They use guacamole in their tacos. Which is a great touch. Of the four different meats we tried, the lengua was by far my favorite, not knocking on the others though, they were all very good. The lengua was just cooked perfectly. Also ordered a pastor burrito, it was a hefty thing. Would definitely recommend it. We came in when the store was empty. The staff was super friendly. The cashier extremely helpful in explaining each type of meat to my friend. The only down side is, it is a *CASH ONLY* establishment. If you don't have cash, you'll have to go next door. Other than that, I'll definitely be back again! They also have a location in Wasco!

Rocy's has the best carne asada in Shafter. They only take cash but it is worth the stop at the ATM.

It's my favorite in Shafter, the guacamole is included in every order. It's a little hidden but it's worth looking for.

To give an idea of the cost: a two-item combo was $17.95, a kids bean and cheese burrito was $5.95 (not including the $3.95 apple juice), and the shrimp cocktail was $20.95. They also charge extra for sour cream (about $0.75). I'm guessing some of the pricing may reflect the location on this side of town. As for the food itself, it was solid and pretty standard for Mexican food. I ordered the shrimp cocktail, which came served in a huge margarita glass (super cute presentation) and it was loaded with shrimp. It was delicious, and I finished every last drop. My husband ordered the enchilada dinner special, which is his usual favorite, and my child had the bean and cheese burrito. Overall, this is a good spot for an occasional meal, but probably not somewhere I'd visit every week because of the prices. One tip: if you have those local high school football discount cards, use them here. They can save you about $5 on a $35 purchase.

First off it was a steady flow of customers for a Wednesday evening. Many birthdays! We were sat immediately and waiter came to take our drink order. I had a mango chamoy margarita, while my husband got a roasted chili cucumber margarita on the rocks. His drink was SPICY! I ordered the shrimp fajitas and my husband ordered the chicken and steak molcajete. Our food was brought out super fast! The portions - humongous! But the food is so good! My husband is super picky when it comes to Mexican food, and he said this molcajete is his favorite so far compared to other Mexican restaurants we've been to. The bright colorful colors and great music selection really make it joyous and fun dining experiences. Highly recommend.

When I arrived, I glanced through their menu and decided to get the "2 Hardshell Tacos" meal, with a side of rice and beans. I wanted to get one taco with chicken and one taco with beef, but I could not do that. The cashier told me that this was not allowed, and the two tacos had to have the same type of meat. Strange, I thought...I don't see why it makes any difference. Slightly disappointed, I decided on getting both tacos with beef. As I prepared to pay, I then realized that they charge a small fee for their customers who use a credit card. I was a little annoyed with this as well; so, I then decided to pay with cash. After getting a Dr. Pepper as my drink with my meal, I sat in one of their booths inside and waited for my order. The cleanliness inside was just ok. As I waited, I realized that this location does not have an internal restroom for their customers after one of their customers asked to use it. The cashier said that their restroom was outside, around the side of the building. After getting my meal, it appeared appetizing. The tacos were quite delicious, but the rice and beans were just ok. I also got some extra sauces to spice it up a bit. After departing, I noticed the restroom doors on the side of the building; They looked pretty ghetto. The outside landscaping was nicely maintained, but I was annoyed by the group of homeless people that were just camping on the grass outside this location under the trees. If I owned this business, I would ask the city to remove these individuals because they are not only an eyesore, their loitering presents a safety concern and an annoyance for their customers. It may even turn some customers away from this location as a result. Overall, the food here is pretty good, but in my opinion, this location needs to make a few improvements to deserve a higher than average rating.
