My husband said it was one of the most tender steak rancheros he had ever ate. The portions were decent sized & it w was only about $40 for the 2 of us with only water to drink. For some reason I happened to think of El Sombrero, and we were glad I did. I had good memories of the food and service and they haven't changed. From the excellent margaritas to the lunch specials everything was perfect. We both had margaritas (on the rocks) and the enchilada lunch special. We both had chile verde enchiladas with rich and beans. The margaritas were excellent!! The chile verde was excellent!! Great flavor and just enough kick. The rice and beans tasted very fresh. Our waitress was outstanding (wish I had gotten her name), very attentive without over doing it. They appear to do a great lunch business as they were packed when we left. Also the chips and salsa were delicious. Chips tasted very fresh and the salsa had an interesting smoky flavor that really added to the flavor. I highly recommend El Sombrero for a great meal with excellent service! I won't be waiting 20 years to go back.

The restaurant is surprisingly roomy and was able to accommodate several large groups at once without ever feeling crowded or becoming too loud, making conversation easy. The wait staff was friendly and efficient, always making sure our drinks were refilled and that we had everything we needed. I ordered a piña colada, which was smooth, creamy, and the perfect way to unwind with friends. For my meal, I chose the #21 plate with a chile relleno, rice, and refried beans. The chile relleno was packed with lots of melty cheese, which I loved, but overall the dish was a little bland for my taste. I was really hoping for a spicy kick from the pepper, but unfortunately, there wasn't one. The complimentary chips and salsa were a nice touch, though the salsa also lacked the bold flavors and spice I was expecting from a Mexican restaurant.

Arriving around 4:30 PM was the perfect move, the restaurant wasn't crowded at all, and we were seated right away. Our server was incredibly nice and attentive, and in a cool twist, my boyfriend realized it was the exact same server he remembered from his high school days coming here after soccer practice. The Warm-Up: We kicked things off with some classic chips and salsa. The chips were serving perfection, soooo warm and seasoned with just the right amount of salt to keep you reaching for more. The Main Event: For my entree, I ordered the shrimp enchiladas, which came paired with traditional rice and beans. My boyfriend stuck to his classic and ordered the chicken burrito he has been getting for years. The Flavor Profile: My enchiladas were incredible; the green sauce was creamy, heavenly, and tied the whole plate together. The meal definitely hit the spot. As for the boyfriend's burrito? He confirmed it was exactly how he remembered it. Needless to say, we absolutely smashed the food. The Verdict: This place completely lived up to the years of hype. Between the fast service, the nostalgic hospitality, and the excellent food, it's the ultimate spot for a comforting meal.

She described it as a small hole in the wall that has incredible, delicious authentic Mexican food. Very true! It smelled wonderful when we walked in - yes, it was small place with a nice patio to sit. The people who worked there were terribly friendly. We were given free samples of aqua Fresca to try - and they were delicious. I couldn't follow exactly what the owner said was in them (my Spanish is terrible)- but the first had pineapple and cucumbers I believe and it was so refreshing and wonderful. The second tasted as if it had chocolate in it, but when my friend clarified with the owner - no, there wasn't chocolate in it. It reminded me of Mexican hot chocolate - only served cold. It was so good. My friend got the Horchata, which she always gets. I couldn't decide between the grilled fish and shrimp plate or the steak ranchero, so the very accommodating owner said he would make me a "plate" (singular) with both! How nice! I love it when I can get food the way I like it! In the end, I was served two big separate plates of delicious food !- The fish which I believe was tilapia - was perfectly grilled, lightly breaded. I asked for a salad, to go with it (passing on the beans and rice), and I was surprised when the salad came with a lot of sliced avocado. Then he brought out a whole plate of the Steak Ranchero. It was sooo spicy (even for me), but I couldn't stop eating it! I was on a diet, like I said, but who could resist fresh tortillas! My friend got the quesadilla, which is her favorite. It was huge... and she was very happy with it. She's a tiny thing, but she ate all of hers. The owner came by a handful of times to check on us. Did I need a box to take my food home? He assumed I guess that I would not be eating all that food. "OH NO!" I told him, "I'm eating all of it!" Our intention was to give the sweet faced dog who was hanging out, a bit of our lunch, but we ate everything except a few tortillas. I tried to get a little bit of the juice from my plates to flavor the tortilla and offered it to her. She said, "Eh, I'm on Keto" and walked away. Oh well.
