Food was great. After being closed for an extended time they had some kinks, only some of the old staff seemed to be back, we had a new server that did not have a clue but we called over one of the original waiters to clarify some questions we had. The menu is the same, better bread, bright, noisy but it always was with a full house. We had Chicken Ajilio on the bone, shrimp with green sauce and lobster in garlic sauce , a salad to start same as before but they didn't have the great tomato based salad dressing they used to have. Not sure if they will offer it. The complimentary chips & hot tomato sauce were fantastic but we got the last basket. The Sangria was great. We shared 3 dishes amongst 4 people. Almost every single dish was much too salted, particularly the pulpo. I prefer my octopus soft as oppose to rubbery, but my colleagues said it was much too soft. The chorizos were just okay (again, mostly salty and not really any distinguishable spices). Same for the gambas al ajillo. For the main course, we five split three main entrees: paella valencia, paella marinara, and the chilean sea bass a la luis.It was quite a lot of food. I've had much better paella (again, too salty). The fish though was absolutely delicious and highly recommendable. For dessert, we had the fried ice cream (serviceable) and sopapillas (a total mess). The decor was all right - old-school stype. Still a four star superstar - but with a warning. Don't come on a busy weekend or come knowing that there will be problems. We were here on a recent Saturday night and this was our experience. Our reservation was honored (which is unusual here) but the room was packed to the gills and very uncomfortable. Service was a mixed bag. Though no fault of our waiter, appetizers we ordered never came to the table. The kitchen was backed up all night and it took forever for our meals to arrive. Prices have crept up here and Casa Luis is not the bargain it used to be. I guess when I am paying $30+ for my entree I expect a better level of service and comfort. Decided to try this little spot after my friend moved into the area and based on his friends recommendation but unfortunately, I was a bit disappointed in the food. I'm also a bit confused as to what country the chef is emulating as one look at the menu will reveal both Mexican and Spanish cuisine. A few Spanish tapas type appetizers, then Quesadillas are thrown in. Next is two pages of Seafood common in Spain, but then you have the fajita option on the side. I was simply bemused. Ok so now the good stuff: the service was great. Very friendly and attentive staff. And the margarita on the rocks I ordered was also excellent. They serve you a basket of fresh tortilla chips and some decent salsa to start you off. Good start indeed! We ordered the chorizo and that was very good as an appetizer as well. My friend had the Paella Valencia which he says he enjoyed and he was given enough food for leftovers for the next day. Now the not so great: An overly dressed iceberg lettuce salad appeared for us to share, I guess included in the meals, but unfortunately the lettuce was so limp and covered in a tasteless dressing, I had to pass and decided to wait on my entree instead. Unfortunately, that wasn't any better. I ordered the Shrimp in Green Sauce, which is described as Shrimp with parsley, garlic and sherry. What I got was a plate of shrimp swimming in a white sauce overloaded with some bitter parsley and some strange flavor. I chose the Saffron rice as a side which usually I love, but this rice was flavorless. Needed some more seasoning, so I wound up trying to mix the shrimp sauce with the rice to make it work. Not the end of the world but enough of a disappointment where I don't feel like coming back. I really can't believe what I read on Yelp most times because this place does not make great food or even good food for that matter especially for the price I'll just list and rate for the smart Yelper 1.margarita 3 stars it was good but not 10.50 good 2.shrimp cocktail 2 star 4 big shrimp but lacked flavor skip it 3. Steak 2 1/2 was big but untrimmed and under seasoned 4. My kids quesadilla was microwaved big zero 5.paella 3-3 1/2 stars I liked it and ate all of it but I'm a Army guy so I ate a lot worse food... LOVE THIS RESTAURANT! The place never changes and that is why my family and I keep coming back. Their staff is always friendly an accommodating, the owner/family always greets their customers, and the food is consistent. We are frequently there and I always order the Paella Marinara, can't help myself, and it tastes delicious every time. My fiancée and I tried this for the first time, and we were very disappointed!!!! We tried hard to give them a chance, however things didn't start out well in the beginning. Based on the Dinner Menu prices, an average of $17-32, chips & salsa and cold bread and frozen cold butter was served. Presentation: We were surprised that chips were served in a plastic basket and plates and mugs were chipped on the border, with a high chance of bacteria to spread. My fiancée chose the Paella Valencia $ 23.75. They brought out a small dish and afterwards the remaining in a cast iron pot. Note to Staff: I would expect them to plate the food in front of us, as it leaves room for suspicion on whether the paella was made in a bigger stock, instead of served fresh. The rice was very soggy. I chose the Sea Bass with garlic sauce. The Waiter with great enthusiasm suggested garlic sauce. We both asked for "very spicy" sauce. When the dish arrived, there was no heat in the dish. Service & Management: We were not approached once to be checked on during the duration of our meal. When asked for the check, management miscalculated and added an extra $2. It took them 3 Attempts to fully understand. The first attempt, instead of correcting it, the management changes the price of Paella Valencia from $23.75 to $25.75. No explanation, just plain greedy. Lack of attention to detail with food, poor service and Illusion of full staff leaves me to not want to come again. Food Nourishing: After taste of meal, left a bloated and sick feeling. Had dinner table by the back brick wall... feet froze during the entire meal. Guess renovations didn't include insulation. Warm, not hot, soup went back after trying to flag down a waiter/server. Warm meals arrived, not hot. Extremely difficult to wave down a waiter who never appeared to inquire as to the fare. Service was ehhhh. Food was less than ehhh due to it not being right temperature. Delicious and very nice ambience but unfortunately their paella is not gluten free. Told the waiter I could not eat gluten but I'm not sure he understood what that meant and I got sick after. I tested the leftovers with the Nima gluten tester and it came back positive for gluten. Very good restaurant if you don't have issues with gluten but can not recommend for celiacs. I hope the restaurant will learn more about allergies and celiac disease so we can go back. read more

I am so disappointed in this place. I pass by all the time and we finally took the plunge and went here for dinner tonight. In short: chorizo sausage appetizer was half cooked. Seemed like they never flipped in in the pan. I ordered the paella. All I tasted was salt. There was no other flavor. For starters, I usually get the Callos (a stew of tripe, veal, and pigs knuckles), which is delicious. The Paella Valencia is great with enough left over for a second meal. Myself (being from Spain, Galicia to be exact) was INSTANTLY Brought back to my childhood in my grandmothers "parlor" stealing candy, and peoples leftover 1/2" of wine. The owner came over to the table to check in on how our Neal was going (a seemingly lost art nowadays" and offered us an after dinner cordial (nice touch). Place COULD use a little updating inside as you feel like you can be in any time period between 1950 and 1970. Especially with the popularity of so many "Tapas bars" around I feel like he can both keep it traditional and still cater to the yuppie "tapas and sangria" crowd. We have eaten here 15yrs ago and we couldn't remember why we never tried it again! Well last Saturday we remembered why we never went back! This place serves sub par Spanish food in a sub par setting. If you like eating sub par Spanish food in someones basement then this place is for you! The restaurant has not changed in 15yrs and probably not in 30yrs the carpet has to be 30yrs old (see pics) . We asked for a drink menu and we're told they don't have one only a wine menu. We asked for the wine menu and low and behold it was the drink menu. The night specials were not mentioned so we had to ask and they had about 5 specials that night. We ordered two top shelf Margaritas and they were great. We ordered the marinated pork for a appetizer and it was dry and swimming in oil. The main courses were not any better. I had the shrimp ajio that was supposed to be a very spicy dish and it was dull and over cooked. My wife had the paella and it was served out of a pot and put into a bowl no presentation at all and it was salty and over cooked with very little seafood. We had another round of Margaritas and had to ask for the desert menu and it was uninspiring it was mostly ice cream. I think the people that like this place are regular customers and haven't tried anything else. If you want good Spanish food just check out the many Spanish restaurants in the area just not this one. read more

I have been following luis "The owner" for 35 years when he used to have "The Iberian Restaurant" in huntington. As a matter of fact I loved the food so much back then, I had my wedding there! You cannot go wrong here...great food, casual dress...atmosphere is plain and simple and luis can always be seen walking around talking to the guests. Love the baked clams as a starter, baby whole little necks in a special breaded recipe sautéed in a light oil base....emmmmm then you must try the paella valencia with lobster (if preferred) or the mariscada in green sauce OMG both dishes are my favorite and are bursting with flavor! Both dishes come with scallops, fresh clams, shrimp and mussels the paella also comes with chicken and chorizo sausage. The waiter brings the pot to your table and "bon appetit!" Friday was our first time to Casa Luis. It was a family dinner with our daughter, son-in-law and his family. All the buzz around us was that everyone was happy that they were open again. We started with a drink at the bar, the margarita was delicious. We had 2 apps, chicken liver and octopus....YUM! Most of us had some kind of paella and mine was fantastic. Been living in this area for 10 years now and this is our first time going here. We had guests staying at our home and decided to give it a shot.. The staff was very friendly, the place is 100% out dated.. The food was a B to me and my guests, it was good but lacking something.. Needed to spice up my dish of rice/chicken/sausage with some hot sauce and salt.. They give you plenty of food.. The soda was a little flat, but drinkable..
