My feeling about this restaurant are very mixed. Yes, its dated on the inside and the tables are very close together but those things really didnt bother us too much. The noise level on a Friday night wasnt bad. We had a reservation for 4 and were seated immediately. Waitstaff was friendly. Appetizers were a hit and a miss. Chorizo sausages were just a couple ounces of sliced sausage on a small plate. Nothing else. Other similar restaurants have served chorizo appetizer with tortillas, rice or something additional versus a few slices on a plate for $10. Chicken quesadilla was very good. Paella Valencia was good but the salt level was extreme. Lobster entree was overcooked and dry. A menu item listed as chicken with bechamel sauce arrived a fried cutlets with a cheese sauce under the breading. While good, it wasnt what was expected. Chicken fajitas were good, with the chicken, peppers and onions in a red sauce. A request of hot cause brought a bottle of Tabasco Sauce. I expected a spanish hot sauce. Sides of black beans and rice were standard stuff. Dessert of peach melba and vanilla custard were fair. After finishing our dessert and paying the $230 bill for 4 people were we talking for 15 minutes before a waiter came over and politely asked us if we would mind getting up because people were waiting for the table. Considering our whole time at the table was less that 90 minutes I was kind of surprised. I dont think 15 minutes is too long to sit after the check nor is a 90 minute dinner too long to occupy a table. We wont return. read more

This was my first and last time eating at this restaurant. After taking 20 minutes to figure out what was spanish food on the menu I gave up and just asked the waiter. I ordered chicken and rice. When my food arrived I started to dig around in my plate to see what I had ordered. After eating some pieces of garlic and trying to get the chicken off the bone a waiter came over and asked me what I ordered. I said chicken and rice . He grabbed the plate and said this wasnt my order. He put the plate on the book shelf by the front door and it sat there for about 10 minutes and then he served it to someone else. I was totally disgusted. By that time I had already started eating my new pot of food. I know most places have video cameras so please view the video on Friday May 3 around 730 pm. I was sitting at the first table by the door with the small child. No kids menu and everything is overpriced. $$$ ..I was originally on my way to Cafe Havana and seen this place and decided to give it a try. Big mistake. read more

Sadly, the food poisoning reviews are true. My husband started feeling weird after eating some of of his chicken and sausage with rice and two hours later at home he was very sick. This little homey spot has quickly become a favorite. Wonderful, warm attentive service and the food is outstanding. Great prices for some outstanding specials. The sangria (red or white) is out of this world and sure to relax you before your senses are touched by the outstanding food. Dont let the crowded room, your fellow diners are close or the outdated decor throw you - this place is a keeper. You will be very pleased. We went there for dinner with some friends, it was Saturday night, place was packed. Some what of long wait to be seated. Mr. Luis, kept coming around and informing us that very soon we would be seated. The service was great, the food out of this world. So disappointing, one of the worst meals i've ever had! First we were served a basket of tortilla chips and salsa, what the hell does this have to do with Spain? Then, a salad with chunks of iceberg lettuce with one tomato slice, two slices of cucumber and a weird ketchupy dressing.. where is the famous Spanish olive oil and vinegar? The garlic soup was so salty that i could not eat it. When they brought the paella just 10 minutes later, I started to worry that it must'e been left over from last week or something which is exactly what it tasted like....... not a single vegetable in it and again the only spice was salt. The seafood looked good but had a terrible ammonia taste which I assume is from freezing and defrosting? I dont get it because it does not take a master chef to cook a delicious and simple paella!!!! read more

Went here with my husband for our anniversary. First time, just a random outing. The place was packed and it seemed like a really popular place. We were seated right away, not a great table but we just showed up so it was fine. Very dim lighting and small place, tiny but i guess that adds to the atmosphere. We ordered margaritas and I swear they are the ones you make at home where you buy the pack and blend with ice. I wanted a real margarita... not a slushy with barely any alcohol. But... whatever. So the menu was not hispanic or spanish (that im used to) at all. Almost everything was seafood. Like there was 2 pages of just that. I got the fajita to play it safe cause im not a seafood person. It was actually delicious. Loved the rice and beans. It was great. My husband ordered a veil steak which was huge and really an extravagant sight to see. Overall it was a different experience and was a fun night but not everyone is from spain and likes seafood. Can we get an enchilada or burrito on the menu please? read more

Meh. Drinks were great but overall I give this place 2 stars. It is in dire need of updating. As for the food It was pretty boring. I had to search for the chicken in the chicken and rice, there were 2 small pieces of sausage and an awful lot of rice that tasted oddly similar to Goya. No sides either. This was my first experience at this restaurant. We started out with gambas al ajillo(shrimp in garlic sauce), which wasn't bad. The entrees were Paradillas( a seafood dish consisting of mussels, clams, scallops, shrimp, and lobster tail in a semi-spicy sauce. It was pretty good. My wife had chicken a la Luis, which is chicken breast with a sauce of mushrooms and onions. Not too bad. However, one overriding factor here on all the dishes is SALT. Mega doses of SALT. As you eat , it stars to override all the other flavors, until that's all you taste. You wake up in the middle of the night to gulp huge quantities of water! On a positive note, great dinner rolls, and fantastic rice pudding, among the best I've ever had. If at least half of the salt could be eliminated, I might try this place again. Otherwise, probably not. One other thing worth noting: noise level is ridiculous! Hard to have a conversation with someone sitting 2 feet away. read more

I love this place. We have been coming here for years and with good reasons. It is always consistently great, and their green sauce is awesome. The paella is great and the staff always friendly and attentive. Whoever says they dont enjoy this place is most likely expecting plain jane mexican, in that case, just go someplace else as you really dont appreciate fine Northern Spanish cuisine. read more

I went to Casa Luis for the first time last night. The restaurant was loud and the tables are very close together. However, the decor was extremely festive and the restaurant has a very inviting and cozy atmosphere. The waiters were very accommodating and pleasant, even though the restaurant was packed. The paella was delicious -- the portion was huge! The baked clams were even better than some italian restaurants in the area! Believe it or not, my only complaint was the salsa. It actually tasted more like marinara sauce.. With that said , I would definitely go back again. read more

This is my 3rd time visit to Cafe Luis. Each time, I am happy with the food. This visit, my husband and I brought my Spanish girlfriend with us. First, she is amaze that we travel far just for dinner, not a special occasion. I told her, is worth it. We had chorizo, pinto, pulpos, and chicken liver for our 1st course. They were all excellent, especially the chorizo is authentic Spanish chorizo. My girlfriend ordered a pound to take home. My husband had the steak and the girls had the lobster Valencia paella. My girlfriend said, this is really good. We could eat desert as we are stuff but do try their flan if you, I had it previously and it is very good. Lastly, their sangria is great and the apples still crunchy, they make to order. Give it a try, it is a very small place so make reservation. read more

The food here is great. Everything I've tried here tastes delicious and has a homemade feel. The staff are very sweet and most definitely add to the atmospheres homey feeling. Interestingly the filet here is awesome, perfect juicy medium steak with sautéed onions on top, my favorite dish here; paired with the house soup and fried potatoes on the side. My wife and I along with 2 other couples had dinner here 1/22/11. We spent just short of $400.00 for this. It was very busy yet the service was good and the food was great. We were given our check before we finished dessert and the hostess was by 2 minutes later. We had not pooled our money that quickly. When we finally put the money (including a $60 tip) in the holder, the waitress snapped it up and gave it to the hostess. About 3 minutes later, a server came to our table and said being that we were finished , they would like us to leave the table so they could sit more customers. We were shocked and outraged!!!!!! We have been dining here since it opened and when Luis was the cook at the Iberian Restaurant in Huntington. We may never return. This is no way to treat loyal patrons. read more

Now this is "as good as it gets" long removed from his days at the Iberian in Huntington Luis and his family have maintained a property worthy of many repeat visits!!!. The wait is never a long one and frankly if you have to sit at the bar their daughter always makes you feel like you are in their home !!!! Plus they will find you and seat you the minute your table is ready. I have had so many dishes over the years to single one out would not be fair, they are all GREAT.. My lobster tails in white sauce are Number 1 on the list as are their sautee'd chicken livers and any shrimp dish they make is outstanding !!!! Servers are the best and have been there a long time and know exactly how to take care of us, but they are like that with everyone not just the regulars !!! Live in Nassau County but journey out to Casa Luis for authentic Spanish cuisine. Food is great and the staff is wonderful and attentive. Wife an I are of Spanish heritage and it's so difficult to find the real deal especially Callos (tripe stew). The establishment is small but cozy. Reminds me of Spain's family style restaurants. Come with a big appetite and for a few hours transport yourself to Espana. read more
