We celebrated my dad's 85th birthday with a lunch for 14 at The View in Oakdale, and it was absolutely wonderful. Everything was so easy to book and coordinate, which made the whole experience stress-free. We had a beautiful table by the water, the food was excellent, and the service was impeccable. The staff made everything feel seamless, and our whole family had a fantastic time. My wife and I try to have a date night on Friday nights but for the last few weeks life has gotten in the way. So I committed this week and when looking for a new place, View came up. Well, waterfront restaurant, how can you resist. My wife decides to invite her sister to come. No comment for now. Read about Valet parking but not there tonight. Restaurant not very crowded, in fact no crowds at 5:30 but got a little better later. Ok let's eat. First and to my surprise it's Restaurant Week. Special three course meal for )46. Seems like a no brainer. I started with Lobster Bisque. I couldn't find any lobster and not much flavor. Mrs. E has their Calamari which was ok but she said wouldn't order again. Dinner... I had the rigatoni with wagu meat sauce. This was pretty good and I would definitely have it again. My wife had the braised pork shank which was meh. There was a side but hard to figure out what it was. I know I said no comment to the sister-in-law but she had the salmon. Said she liked it. Just a side note. I hate it when someone says " do you want to taste mine ". NO. If I wanted to taste that I would have ordered it. Now my big, no huge problem. We ordered coffee. Just plain regular coffee. Comes out with a small vase of creamer. The creamer was very chunky. That's right clearly bad. Almost cheese. I pointed it out to our waitress who acknowledged it but left it sitting there for about 5 minutes. A little disgusting. Eventually new coffee and creamer comes back. Oh the view. Well it was dark out so the view was non existent. Not the fault of the restaurant. Will I go back? Maybe, maybe not. I think not. read more

I haven't been here in years. Tried it today. Food was good. Server was friendly. They seemed understaffed though. It wasn't that busy at 4pm and we had to wait to place the drink order and then wait for check for a long time. Would of had dessert but just wanted to leave at that point. The view is a great restaurant with a great "VIEW" - Live music and an awesome raw bar. we always order a bunch of apps like the crispy Thai calamari, the jumbo lump crab cakes and stuffed clams...AAA - The seafood is always fresh and tasty, they also have some pasta dishes and great deserts. Another amazing experience at View -from start to finish. Rob greeted us immediately when we walked in all the way from the bar to make sure we were taken care of. We wished to grab a quick drink at the bar before our reservation and he showed us to 2 seats that were available and served us right away. His personality and enthusiasm were infectious and so nice to be around. When we sat for our reservation, Grace was just as amazing and so attentive. Went on a Wednesday for lunch (table of four); only 2 other tables filled inside and 2 outside. Waitress came buy for drink order. Two of the same cocktails were tasteless; lacking the peach taste they were supposed to have. They doctored them up; slightly better but would not order again. Wanted to order appetizers and was told can only order appetizers with our entree orders. We explained we like to have our cocktails with appetizers...to no avail. Waitress stiff and unbending. Asked about bread. We can order bread though. Another server brought 2 small baskets. When the waitress herself came back she started to remove 1 basket saying we were only supposed to receive 1 basket. (She did leave it.) The food was less than mediocre with our roll sandwiches with fish were so overly toasted that they fell apart; small piece of fish only fair! Never to return. read more

My family hosted a surprise party at the View for my birthday. I can't thank the staff enough for making my special day amazing! The passed hors d'oeuvres were delicious! My favorite was the mini lobster rolls and spring rolls. My daughter in law said the manager and staff were very easy to communicate with and made the party planning a breeze. I dined at The View recently. The restaurant staff were welcoming and friendly. The outside dining area is mostly covered by an awning. I started out with the shrimp and scallop ceviche (a special) and little neck clams. Both were tasty! For my entree I had their warm lobster roll. It was filled with a lot of lobster. Very pleased and delicious. For dessert I had their Campfire sundae. Highly recommend! This is a great spot to dine during the summer months. read more

My daughter & son in law had their wedding here & all I can say is this place is perfection. From the planning to the execution, the venue covered it all. The couple used the partners of the View for photographer, videographer, flowered, DJ, etc, & everything was perfect. The staff couldn't be more accommodating & professional. Being on the river was extra special as we utilized inside & outside of the restaurant. The picture opportunities are spectacular inside & out. The gazebo on the edge of the patio was a perfect backdrop to the ceremony. Food & drinks were all made to perfection! An added bonus is the dockage as the couple & their family & friends are all boaters. Having several guests arriving by boat was unique. The new couple sailed away after the ceremony on their boat. It was the best wedding exit I've witnessed. We loved this place so much, we're looking to plan another event there in the future. read more

The View is definitely an appropriate name for this amazing venue. The gorgeous vista is complemented by spectacular service and fabulous food, and our 120 guests are still raving about the terrific time they had. Jesse and Jon went out of their way to help us plan a memorable Installation Luncheon for our Volunteer Fire Department, working with us to develop a menu to our challenging expectations, right down to the best gluten free cake I've had. They took a head of lettuce and topped it with shrimp. (My wife left hungry) C'mon.. I ordered the Scallops with lobster-white truffle risotto. The scallops were cooked well but the risotto had no taste and the rice was crunchy. Really?? After we all ate, we went to the bar and I ordered a beer. There was a musician playing guitar in a nice looking bar, I wanted to go outside and chill but all the doors were closed because of bugs. I had a hell of a View. The waiter came by 30 minutes later to take drinks then another 15 minutes for food order. At that point we ordered appetizers and entrees right away. The food and drinks were okay. Not the best considering the overall cost. Overall, the "view" was amazing but there's many other restaurants that offer great views but have better food and service. The place is clean and very pretty. View of the bay is lovely. Our waitress seemed disinterested in us all together. She got everything right but did not come off particularly friendly at all. On a positive their old fashioned was one of the best I've ever had. The seafood tower was reasonably priced and very good. My steak was perfectly cooked and well seasoned. Only had 4 pieces of brocollini and for $70 was very stingy. Also had the tuna tacos which were amazing. Highly recommended. Went for lunch. Got the duck tacos for a starter. Was it duck? Not sure. Could have been pulled pork. Smothered in sauce. Why would you do that to beautiful roasted fatty duck? No fresh veggies or herbs. Just an electric green guacamole piped on top that was not good or fresh and seemed not to be of this earth. Do they sell guacamole in a tube? If so, this was it. For main course we got a tuna poke bowl. Tuna seemed to be salted and weird. And no rice. Just noddles that I assume were squid? Not sure. Strange color. Probably came off the same truck as the guacamole. Also - supposed to have some spicy creamy sauce. None that we could discern. Dry and flavorless less the slime from the noodles and salt on the tuna. Just disappointing and left half uneaten. Also got a chicken salad wrap. Fries were awesome. All ingredients were fresh but with no seasoning or sauce or flavor. When they call it chicken salad they mean plain grilled chicken with lettuce and crispy onions which were the only flavor element. Someone needs to rewrite the menu to manage expectations. The poke bowl didn't say it was noodles - but is it me or do you just expect some beautiful freshly cooked rice and not slimy noodles. When you say chicken salad - umm - do we have a universal understanding of what chicken salad is? It's a beautiful view. Cocktails are good. Service and staff are lovely. I'm hoping those who run or own this restaurant will read this review. There was a lot to love. And I think with some tweaks the food could be great. But if they don't fix the menu we won't be back. First off we were told you must order apps and dinner together. That is silly. The baked clams were very good but the clams must have been ground up so small you could hardly taste them. The dinner arrived and it lacked flavor and seasoning. For what you pay for this you would expect a high quality meal. We went out to View for Restaurant Week the other day because it was a place and town we don't normally visit, they had a good deal for 3 courses for $44 each, so we said alright lets give it a try. We arrive and the place is jumping in the front room, looks like a cocktail party, tray passing, some kind of occasion. The two girls at the host stand look to seat us after we have a reservation, the dining room has a few tables eating but mainly pretty empty. They decide to sit us at one of the tables with a broken window, and this was the day it was crazy windy with sub zero temps, so we are like how bout somewhere else, they move us to a much better spot. Attention for service was pretty lacking, we wanted to order a bottle of wine, took 20 minutes and after apps came out they tell us they didn't have the one we chose, okay, so we get glasses. The food was average, nicely presented but nothing crazy to write home about, and the fact the server was just so sparsely seen, and didn't have great communication affected the meal, so we weren't too happy. Thai Calamari was pretty good though, recommend that. Price was fine, average food, I would give 3.5 stars if Yelp would let me, but if I were to choose 3 or 4, it goes with 3. read more

I've enjoyed many delicious meals here for years. The beautiful room, waterside view, and excellent food have been a winning combination. Recently, I brought a friend for lunch who had never been there. This is something I have frequently liked to do. On this occasion, things did not work out so well. My friend ordered the lobster roll; it was available in both a hot and cold recipe. She asked the waitress for a recommendation and chose the hot roll, a fairly expensive option on the menu. When it arrived, it was not at all what she had expected. She was accustomed to a chopped lobster salad type of preparation on the roll and this was small lobster claws with butter only. Because it's not what she was anticipating, she didn't enjoy it very much. But she loved the appearance of the place and clearly wanted a reason to return, despite not enjoying her lunch. And because she also craved lobster, she asked the waitress if she could have just a small taste of the cold lobster roll preparation. The waitress went back to the kitchen and returned, saying the chef refused her request; he could not do this. I'm a business consultant and, believe me, this was shocking to me; here was a first time guest who had ordered a nearly $50 lunch, was not happy with it, and yet obviously wanted to return and needed only a small validating reason to do so. My friend never dines out in the evening without at least another couple or two and could have easily come back with just the small encouragement she requested. I think now, the combination of disappointment with lunch and the chef's poor business choice has not only lost a new customer, one who brings people with her everywhere, but also has created a bad experience that will most likely be retold. I know I'll come back because I have frequently had good meals but the restaurant did not gain what would have been a new frequent diner on this visit. Too often, dissatisfied customers will walk away, and you'll never know why you lost their business; in this case the restaurant was given a gift: a dissatisfied customer who gave the View an easy opportunity to win her business and chose not to bother. read more
