My favorite place to take my girlfriend, 10/10 food & view! Especially in the summer.

The place is clean and very pretty. View of the bay is lovely. Our waitress seemed disinterested in us all together. She got everything right but did not come off particularly friendly at all. On a positive their old fashioned was one of the best I've ever had. The seafood tower was reasonably priced and very good. My steak was perfectly cooked and well seasoned. Only had 4 pieces of brocollini and for $70 was very stingy. Also had the tuna tacos which were amazing. Highly recommended. We skipped desert but I was extremely intrigued by the orange cremecicle creme brulee. Not sure we would go back to try though. read more

Went for lunch. Got the duck tacos for a starter. Was it duck? Not sure. Could have been pulled pork. Smothered in sauce. Why would you do that to beautiful roasted fatty duck? No fresh veggies or herbs. Just an electric green guacamole piped on top that was not good or fresh and seemed not to be of this earth. Do they sell guacamole in a tube? If so, this was it. For main course we got a tuna poke bowl. Tuna seemed to be salted and weird. And no rice. Just noddles that I assume were squid? Not sure. Strange color. Probably came off the same truck as the guacamole. Also - supposed to have some spicy creamy sauce. None that we could discern. Dry and flavorless less the slime from the noodles and salt on the tuna. Just disappointing and left half uneaten. Also got a chicken salad wrap. Fries were awesome. All ingredients were fresh but with no seasoning or sauce or flavor. When they call it chicken salad they mean plain grilled chicken with lettuce and crispy onions which were the only flavor element. Someone needs to rewrite the menu to manage expectations. The poke bowl didn't say it was noodles - but is it me or do you just expect some beautiful freshly cooked rice and not slimy noodles. When you say chicken salad - umm - do we have a universal understanding of what chicken salad is? It's a beautiful view. Cocktails are good. Service and staff are lovely. I'm hoping those who run or own this restaurant will read this review. There was a lot to love. And I think with some tweaks the food could be great. But if they don't fix the menu we won't be back. And we'd like to come back. We're locals and foodies and looking for a great consistent spot for lunch and dinner. We'd. love to have a reason to come back. read more

First off we were told you must order apps and dinner together. That is silly. The baked clams were very good but the clams must have been ground up so small you could hardly taste them. The dinner arrived and it lacked flavor and seasoning. For what you pay for this you would expect a high quality meal. The order included branzino, shrimp and scallop pasta, chicken Milanese and a burger. Besides the burger everyone said the food was bland. Didn't have much flavor. Not sure if it was underseasoned or what but my first and last time here. So many other places on the water at much less of a price. read more

We went out to View for Restaurant Week the other day because it was a place and town we don't normally visit, they had a good deal for 3 courses for $44 each, so we said alright lets give it a try. We arrive and the place is jumping in the front room, looks like a cocktail party, tray passing, some kind of occasion. The two girls at the host stand look to seat us after we have a reservation, the dining room has a few tables eating but mainly pretty empty. They decide to sit us at one of the tables with a broken window, and this was the day it was crazy windy with sub zero temps, so we are like how bout somewhere else, they move us to a much better spot. Attention for service was pretty lacking, we wanted to order a bottle of wine, took 20 minutes and after apps came out they tell us they didn't have the one we chose, okay, so we get glasses. The food was average, nicely presented but nothing crazy to write home about, and the fact the server was just so sparsely seen, and didn't have great communication affected the meal, so we weren't too happy. Thai Calamari was pretty good though, recommend that. Price was fine, average food, I would give 3.5 stars if Yelp would let me, but if I were to choose 3 or 4, it goes with 3. read more

I had the pleasure of dining here on a Friday evening. The service was non existent and horrible. I only had an appetizer due to the horrible service and waiting 1 hour after getting up twice and asking for service. The burrata was very good. The location was nice and there was valet parking. But that service won't allow me an another visit. read more

The seafood was tasty and fresh; the grilled shrimp and crab cakes have been my favorites. The state-of-the-art but laid-back environment became ideal for a date night or a get-together with buddies. Have always wanted to try this place, seeing their menu on Restaurant Week for many years. It was a beautiful night and when we arrived, the little beach on the property caught my eye. We entered the restaurant and it was loud and bustling for a Tuesday night. We were immediately seated. Our server was a not very friendly, a little frantic, not introducing herself and quickly jotting down our drink order. We ordered the burrata and the Thai calamari as appetizers. The calamari was only rings but sprinkled with white and black sesame seeds it was delicious. Dinner was the pork shank and swordfish, served over baby gnocchi. For dessert we had a cheesecake with berry compote and a hazelnut tart, which was disappointing. It's like they poured chocolate syrup into a tart shell and sprinkled it with hazelnuts. It should have been filled with Nutella. Good but nothing to write home about. read more

Such a great spot to enjoy a casual cocktail and appetizer in the bar/grill room. Scott makes amazing drinks. I love the dining room for less casual and for a special night out. I've enjoyed many delicious meals here for years. The beautiful room, waterside view, and excellent food have been a winning combination. Recently, I brought a friend for lunch who had never been there. This is something I have frequently liked to do. On this occasion, things did not work out so well. My friend ordered the lobster roll; it was available in both a hot and cold recipe. She asked the waitress for a recommendation and chose the hot roll, a fairly expensive option on the menu. When it arrived, it was not at all what she had expected. She was accustomed to a chopped lobster salad type of preparation on the roll and this was small lobster claws with butter only. Because it's not what she was anticipating, she didn't enjoy it very much. But she loved the appearance of the place and clearly wanted a reason to return, despite not enjoying her lunch. And because she also craved lobster, she asked the waitress if she could have just a small taste of the cold lobster roll preparation. The waitress went back to the kitchen and returned, saying the chef refused her request; he could not do this. I'm a business consultant and, believe me, this was shocking to me; here was a first time guest who had ordered a nearly $50 lunch, was not happy with it, and yet obviously wanted to return and needed only a small validating reason to do so. My friend never dines out in the evening without at least another couple or two and could have easily come back with just the small encouragement she requested. I think now, the combination of disappointment with lunch and the chef's poor business choice has not only lost a new customer, one who brings people with her everywhere, but also has created a bad experience that will most likely be retold. I know I'll come back because I have frequently had good meals but the restaurant did not gain what would have been a new frequent diner on this visit. Too often, dissatisfied customers will walk away, and you'll never know why you lost their business; in this case the restaurant was given a gift: a dissatisfied customer who gave the View an easy opportunity to win her business and chose not to bother. read more

I hosted a bridal shower for my daughter on May 25th, Sunday brunch. for about 35 people. Everything went perfectly, the room set up, food was plentiful and delicious, and very attentive wait staff. However, I was interrupted by the catering manager for $2.75! I had given him a bank check as required for the exact amount on the invoice. My friends and family were all stunned as well as I was. Seems there was a sales tax change a few months back. I handed him $3 and he just walked away. It was so disappointing and petty. That's not even the price of a cocktail! We had been emailing prior to the event so no excuse for that unprofessionalism. I certainly didn't expect that and had to ask my mother for the $3 since I only brought a credit card. It left a sour note to such a happy event. I understand your books have to balance but take it out of your pocket for your error. read more

I Dined at the View in Oakdale Last Friday , when I entered the view I was extremely impressed as to the over the top tasteful Holiday decorations, when checking in the very gracious hostess seated us at a quiet table in a private section. I requested table 53 which was unavailable due to the area having a lovely rehearsal dinner. We were seated by a warm glowing fireplace. Then we were greeted by the always cheerful assistant manager Jonathan Barrios. So I suppose it's appropriate to connect a three star rehearsal dinner with a three star experience at the place of marriage for my friend and his new bride (congrats to them by the way!). Yep, View was around that level of three stars (I'd throw a half on top of that) when we attended a ceremony/reception wedding here during the day. Now I don't want to take anything away from the wedding itself. That part was perfectly fun and enjoyable with friends, laughs, and all those good feelings. Though I can't entirely condone View as a strong wedding venue spot. For one, the structure isn't entirely ideal. It's got a fabulous nautical/maritime/rustic feel throughout with gorgeous views of the Great South Bay, but the interior itself doesn't flow well in the wedding setup. I'll give credit to the ceremony being outside facing the water, but there weren't enough chairs for every guest which is a big red flag to start. Once inside, most tables end up being too far away or tucked out of sight from the guests of honor due to the restaurant setup. And the room where dancing takes place is a tad cut off from the rest of the area which creates a little too much separation between areas. Eh. Besides that, the food at View was mixed in taste and quality. I enjoyed the bacon bar during the cocktail hour with plenty of savory pork choices, and the passed hors d'oeuvres were tasty (minor shrimp taco FTW), though the pastas and meats of the main meals weren't anything to necessarily write home about. Also, I don't understand the random distribution of salmon risotto halfway through everyone eating. There wasn't enough for everyone (not that I wanted it) so it just added a level of confusion. Overall, the setting and setup of View almost makes me want to return...for dinner. I'd be intrigued to try things out when the place is running their normal restaurant rigamarole and not the wedding aspect as the views (hence the name) are gorgeous (plus their wood-finished bar is a vibe in of itself). Perhaps one day I'll return for that, but for now, consider this a meh spot for a wedding. read more

I'm going to start with the positives first. Any place on the water with good seafood is a win win. The food was very good. I had the shrimp cocktail, lobster roll, and seafood risotto. For dessert I had the s'mores dessert which was actually too sweet for my taste. Now the reasons why I cannot give a 5 star review will follow. Parking is a nightmare, valet no where to be found on the evening I went. We had a private room with about over 50 people for a work event, and there was only one waitress taking all the orders. I felt bad for that girl, she was so stressed and overworked. I've been to multiple events at several restaurants ,and at minimum they have 3 staff covering a private room. My colleague asked for a drink twice, and both times was told to wait because she had to get all food orders in first. Multiple people ended up just going to the bar because our waitress did not come back to take the drink orders.The speaker was done with her presentation ,and we still had no food out. Everyone was hungry and complaining. Then ,they finally brought out bread and butter. Although the food was very good, I do not see myself coming back. I look for great food, great service, and great atmosphere; To only have one of those things is not sufficient for me to come back. read more

My partner and I had a wonderful time while at brunch our server Tina was fantastic!!!! She was quick with our drinks and was so kind. She even volunteered to take photos for us which was so nice of her. She told us that she would be moving from serving to the bar and for us this was a no brainer we wanted to stay and have a few drinks no questions asked. Unfortunately she did not go directly to the bar which ultimately led us to leave due to lack of service. There was an older lady whom did not greet us, she did not give us menus until I asked for them and even after this she did not inquire about serving us. This made my partner extremely uncomfortable after she served everyone around us and he voiced that we were being discriminated against which ultimately made us leave. I have been in the service industry for over 11 years and this is not the kind of service I give at all and I refuse to receive it as well. read more

On a rainy cloudy Friday we had a beautiful birthday lunch for my sister..our waitress was Colleen who was excellent as were the busboys who quietly cleared table after each course. Now for the BEST part-we shared duck tacos with their crispy freshly made taco shell..they were a perfectly seasoned hit. We also shared Thai calamari which had a delicious kick & the crunch of peanuts-EXCEPTIONAL..the calamari was very tender & the lime acidity was perfect. We had Baja shrimp tacos which were equally good served in a soft shell accompanied by yummy seasoned fries. Also good was the Shrimp Cobb Salad which had a delicious dressing bathing the greens,avocado & bacon.Another diner had the yellow fin poke bowl which was delicious but would have been easier to toss on a dinner plate as opposed to the bowl it came in..one more critique of that was there should have been more of the carrot emulsion on the side because it was a bit in the dry side. Dessert was affogato which is trending on dessert menus. It was a salted caramel gelato with a shot of espresso poured on top. We went for a special occasion. the hostess sat us right away by the window looking out in the water. Grace, our server came over and introduced herself within minutes. We had such a wonderful experience at The View in Oakdale! There was a steel drum being played. I felt like I was on vacation, the view was spectacular. The food was incredible. I had the lobster shrimp scallop pasta. My husband had the lobster roll and I enjoyed the watermelon salad and I think my husband fought a friend for the last spare rib appetizer! The staff wears masks and gloves. This was a really nice restaurant with a lot of space and great ambiance. It was really chill and very relaxing for a Valentine's Day dinner. The staff was very polite and service was fantastic. We ordered the Crispy Thai Calamari, Maine Lobster Bisque, and Old Bay French Fries for appetizers, had Sea Scallops and Maine Lobster Pasta for entrées, and had the Fire Islander and View Rum Punch to drink. Onto the food! The restaurant served complimentary bread, which was decent. It was fairly soft with cheese baked into it. It was a bit buttery and had a mild garlic taste but it was a bit underbaked. I wish it was a bit flakier and buttery with more garlic. Overall, 6/10. The Crispy Thai Calamari was a decent portion for the price ($15) but was cut very thin. It was somewhat crunchy and the tempura didn't flake off. The squid wasn't too chewy and it was well seasoned with a nice consistency. However, I didn't like the Thai sauce it was prepared in and served with. It was too sweet, which ruined the taste of the calamari. I wish it had a spicier taste to it. For me, it was a 7/10. The Maine Lobster Bisque was flavorful and rich, and the bisque wasn't too heavy. It was creamy and had a nice consistency in terms of taste. The lobster was flavorful but I wish it had more lobster. It was decent and around a 7/10. I enjoyed the Sea Scallops and the risotto it came with. The risotto was very well made, and full of flavor and was very rich. The risotto was al dente and was creamy with bits of lobster in it. The lobster was also seasoned well. The scallops weren't fishy and were slighty crispy and not too chewy. I would say this was an 8/10. The Maine Lobster Pasta was also really flavorful and creamy and very colorful. The pasta was al dente as well and the lobster was well prepared without being fishy or chewy. The bacon was chewy and added a nice saltiness to the dish. To me, it was an 8/10. The Old Bay French Fries was a good portion for the price ($7) and was very well seasoned. They were crunchy and not too oily, which I liked. It was an 8/10. The Fire Islander was really great! It was fruity and tasted like punch, and wasn't too strong. I love fruity cocktails so this was a solid 8/10. The View Rum Punch was also really great, with a good blend of orange and alcohol. It tasted like OJ with alcohol but it wasn't nasty or strong. It was a great drink and around a 7/10. Overall, this was a really nice place with a great view and wonderful ambiance. The food wasn't what I expected given the price but it was decent. It's great for a more fancy date night or for any events because the restaurant has great space. read more
