The patio view is the reason why this restaurant gets its business. The food is okay, but the lobster roll, sweet corn & crab chowder, and fish and chips are hard to screw up along with starting with a dozen of their fire island oysters. Make sure you ask for the sauce on the side for their Thai calamari or else it may come drenched and soggy. The staff is another plus. They may be busy and forget an order, but they rectify things quickly. Plus, they clearly have experience taking photos of the view for special occasions. That alone was worth a hefty tip for a Kodak moment to last a lifetime. Parking is ample and reservations are easy to make without any mix ups. If you want the happy hour menu, stay at the bar and come during dinner for free fresh, warm, and tasty bread rolls. Found this place for a last minute date... First off, Cara our waitress was fantastic from start to finish. Being that it's my first time here I had a couple of questions on the menu and she was extremely helpful and knowledgeable about everything. We started with the Duck Tacos that Cara recommended. Let me tell you they did not disappoint! The flavor and presentation were spectacular. Next I had the chicken entree, it was out of this world. Chicken was moist and seasoned to perfection. I've been to two events hosted at the View- a guest at a beautiful summer wedding and my own fall baby shower just yesterday. Lessing's is a well oiled event planning machine. The staff is always knowledgeable on service and the food is held to a consistent standard. The View itself is a beautiful location. If you're blessed with a nice day, the outdoor patio makes for a really beautiful space. During the wedding we attended they had the dj & dance floor outside, which was such a nice twist. On Sundays the View hosts public brunch and several small showers. I believe there were three other showers going on yesterday as well. This worked wonderfully for my group since we got the private room and had a midsized group (22 guests). Most venues wouldn't given us a private space for under 30 guests so this was very appreciated. They let my hosts in a half hour before the party started to decorate and didn't rush us out as we cleaned up. They also have valet parking, which when attending an event in rainy weather is appreciated! I was a little concerned about the shared brunch line. I didn't want my guests waiting on a long line instead of socializing and having a good time. But the buffet flowed so smoothly, nobody was waiting at all. I personally enjoyed the omelette station. This is our first indoor restaurant experience since covid19. Seatings were spaced out. We got a whole bunch of items to share. Pros - oysters were blue point. They were briny and has a clean taste. I haven't had oysters for months, so this was my favorite - lobster roll. Large chunk of oysters, buttery toast, and thin fries. - fish tacos were nicely fried. I went to dinner at the "View" with great anticipation, ready for fantastic venue and food. It was raining, but the ambiance was still lovely. It still looked wonderful, but then it was all downhill. The waitress treated us like some low-lifes not worthy of her attention. We got wine, after waiting. After another long delay, we were able to order bread and our entrees. I never knew it took a half an hour bring bread ( I guess they were baking it) and our entrees came out with it. By then, anything would have tasted decent. We asked for ice in two glasses and that took finding a separate server to get it for us. It was as if they were searching for the last ice cubes on earth. Finally it was time to eat our main course, and then dessert. After all that..... the food was fair. When we dined there, it seemed like there were only a few patrons there, and yet, it certainly seemed like they must have forgot about us. Getting the check was funny... then, they right there... when it came time for the check. My advice, is simple..... it want a wonderful dinner... with "Attentive service".... you should pass this place by and save your money for a place that actually caters to their customers. Good not great retirement lunch gathering in regards to the food on new lunch menu. There were some issues with food temperature not being hot enough for New England Clam Chowder & side courses. My salmon would have benefited from a cream sauce and the risotto presented was a little off and not creamy and needed some acid like fresh lemon juice. Was told the Lobster roll and and white cheddar bistro burger were hits as was the short ribs. On the appetizers the Thai Calamari was over cooked, the stuffed baked clams very dry and not hint of any piece of clam. The raw clams on half shell were very good as were the crab cakes. Just hosted my daughter's Emily's bridal shower brunch on 8/25 at The View in Oakdale, NY. In the tea room. Jesse the manager was excellent in helping us plan and manage the event! They also were very accommodating to the florist, balloon company who were setting up there. The staff were super efficient , very attentive when serving food and drinks, very respectful, and friendly and courteous throughout the event. They helped us bring all of our gifts and decorations to the car too! The brunch was delicious as were the drinks. Highly recommend, can't wait to celebrate another occasion there. Waiting service could be better, we waited over 30 mins just to get our appetizer orders in, another 40 mins to get them served. Then the waiters disappeared and we waited 45 mins before we had to hunt them down to take our orders. The food...tasteless. I ordered the fish and chips and I was greatly disappointed, everything else that we ordered was just as disappointing. I would not recommend this place unfortunately. Met a friend for Dinner and an an excellent waiter. She ordered a Belvedere Lychee Martini. Waiter returns and says we don't have Belvedere so she orders Tito's instead. Waiter brings my drink and states the bartender does not know what a Lychee is and we do not have it- We go to order dinner and I order a filet Mignon butterflied with melted Gorgonzola cheese on top. Waiter comes back and says chef never butterflies his steaks and refuses to melt Gorgonzola cheese on top. I call the ASM over and he asks the chef about the melted cheese and politely returns and stated no chef refuses. Place an order for fish and the risotto is watery. ( I did not complain) I see the GM walk by and I flagged him. He comes over and I start to explain the evening and he says in a condescending way let me stop you right there. I had heard of the View for quite some time. With a celebration in mind, I knew I was taking a risk for going to a new spot instead of an old favorite. The risk paid off and I'm glad we came here. The restaurant is very well designed. It's spacious and clean feeling, without going over the line of being kitschy nautical. The restaurant is appropriately named as the view is very nice. The service is very attentive. David and his fellow coworkers checked in often and were helpful. All of the food were presented beautifully. We ordered a variety of items from the menu but the stand outs were the French fries and frosé. David won major points when he said, "Here's a straw because you don't want to get frosé on your nosé." #nailedit This is a great spot to take someone for a special date/anniversary, especially if you're looking to impress. Last week we had a birthday get together with 9 guest. We were seated right away and the waitress took drink orders while a young man filled the water glasses. After about 30 mins she took our order. One highlight was we were offered separate checks. The young man was refilling water glasses and got water all over my leg. Most everyone ordered burgers. A few soups and calamari were ordered and a lobster roll. We were allowed to substitute the French Fries for salad. The restaurant was not crowded at all. After waiting an hour for our food we had to go looking for the waitress to see what was going on. The manager came over and said the food would be right out.
