Wasn't too busy. I ordered the lobster roll, and friends ordered oysters on the half shell, New England Clam Chowder and the Long Island Chowder (yum), shrimp cocktail, and two 1 1/4 lobsters (MP was $30/lobster cooked). Lobster roll was great, cold and well-seasoned. Oysters on the half shell were fantastic. The fresh lobsters were also enjoyed by others. Chowders are great and the New England and Manhattan are award-winning. Though, I really enjoyed the Long Island Chowder (mix of New England and Manhattan) Food did take some time to come out but that's fine because it is fresh. Enjoy the fresh air and boats going in and out of the inlet. Market had a great array of fresh seafood as well. Great stop on the way to or from the Sayville Fire Island Ferry terminal. White Cap View has a beautiful waterfront setting that's hard to beat. The restaurant could definitely use some updating, but the view alone keeps us coming back. I've always loved their New England clam chowder. This visit it was still very good, but it wasn't quite as good as I remembered--the potatoes were a little gummy, and there weren't as many clams as usual. The oysters were excellent--fresh, cold, and delicious. We also ordered the catfish, which used to be marinated, but this time it seemed like the fish was simply cooked and the sauce was poured on top afterward. It just wasn't the same. The biggest surprise of the meal was actually the fries. They were perfectly crispy, well-seasoned, and honestly one of the best parts of our dinner. We also tried the crab cake egg roll special, but unfortunately it wasn't for us. They were very dry, and the dipping sauce had an unusual flavor that almost reminded us of pumpkin. My husband was hoping to order the soft-shell crab sandwich, but they let us know they were completely out of crab that day. Even with a few disappointments, I still really enjoy coming here for fresh seafood and the gorgeous view. I was in the mood for a lobster roll, so I found this place on my phone and it did not disappoint. It's a cute little tucked away place off the side of the road near some water with a nice view. The place is a dive. Combo fried fish, overcooked, Bay Scallops the size of pencil erasers, shrimp are frozen from a food supply place, clam strips severely over cooked, flavorless and tough. The Lobster Bisque was nothing like I ever experienced, not pink but white, served at room temperature and I found it inedible and sent it back and was and refunded. Stopped in today to pick up some fresh fish for dinner . The shop is rustic with an aged interior and old wooden floors ,with a kind of old time feeling . I have eaten here in the summer several times, sitting out side by the dock is so relaxing . Everything I've ordered has always been fresh and delicious ! Today I brought home some jumbo shrimp , flounder freshly caught from Montauk and a crab cake , which looked so good I just had to try one ! The shrimp was good ,delicate and sweet ....the flounder was fantastic , flaky and super fresh !I enjoyed the crab cake it was nicely flavored , I would have preferred larger pieces of crab and a bit less bread crumbs .. but it was delicious non the less ! The best part about White Cap is coming here on a warm summer day, getting some fresh oysters and a fresh seafood lunch and sitting outside on their patio on the canal watching all of the fishing boats. Oh and with a glass of wine or a beer. At the time of my review, it is winter. But luckily there are some tables inside to still enjoy the food. They have an extensive menu with a variety of options and lunch specials. It is extremely no frills, but the food is made to order and very fresh. On the other side is the actual display case to purchase fish. I feel the quality here is ok... not amazing but not bad. It is local and convenient. White Cap Fish Market is one of those places where even as you're halfway down the entrance you'll be thinking "is there actually something here?". This little shack sits right by the water and sells fresh caught seafood as well as having a fully functional kitchen preparing whatever you order any way you want it. Fried, baked, broiled you name it, they can do it. So on this visit I got their Combo Platter, I noticed there was an option to have your seafood in different marinades so I decided to try out their teriyaki marinade. And honestly? It had no business being there, I was under the impression that they actually put them in a marinade, I didn't think it'd be a thick teriyaki stir-fry type of sauce drizzled on the finish. The flavors of the seafood just didn't mesh well with the sauce for me. Very well, I just removed as much sauce as I could and carried on. As for the actual seafood, it was superb and as fresh tasting as you can ask for. The combo platter contained clams, sole, shrimp, and scallops and they were all cooked perfectly. On my next visit I'll be sure to have a sauce-less platter and I would have their side pasta instead of fries. So be sure to check this place out before Summer comes to a close because the patio will keep you there longer than you think. read more

Place has been here forever. I don't find it to be the best fish market but it's pretty good. Mainly come here to eat their cooked food and enjoy some dock side dining. Staff is always friendly. More of a fish market than eatery, so expect no frills dining. read more

Today, I went in to the fish market and ordered 2 dozen muscles, 2 dozen clams, took a 12 lobster tail from the freezer cocktail sauce and a tarter, 6 crab cakes. When I got the bill for what I asked for, I said "Are you sure that doesn't seem to be enough" the employee said it's ok I checked and that's right" friendly nice young man. When I got home.....I was missing 2 dozen muscles. I was not charge for them but.....it was not part of a traditional Christmas Eve dinner. I still love the people. On a Sunday drive down Merrick Road we passed the inoccous sign for White Cap Fish Co...and passed it...and then got curious, turned around and drove up this rickety dirt road along a canal to this barn like building on the water. We parked behind it in the lot and walked around to find people sitting along the dock eating seafood...On the outside of the bldg under an overhang was a table loaded with fresh clams and oysters on a pile of ice, expertly being opened and served by a couple of good shuckers. Inside you can order cooked stuff like a lobster dinner special, baked clams et. al. We tried some of those dishes but my suggestion is to stick with the fresh clams and oysters and along with a beer take in the sun on one of the tables along the water. We will be returning again to do just that! read more
