We had such a good time at La Candela last Thursday! Hands-down, my favorite food the entire month was served at this restaurant. When we walked in, there weren't many people there, but we were greeted warmly. We were immediately given tablets, and told that there was a happy hour, so of course we flipped to the drink menu! Everything is so clearly described, along with pictures; when we had a question we asked it, and our server was so nice. I wish I remembered her name. The drinks were amazing, not too sweet, and the food - wow. It's so nice to go to a restaurant with FLAVOR in their food ! Hunny they went in on the preparation. Well seasoned, not too expensive, large portions- did I mention the happy hour !!? I need to come back here. The drinks we got were less than $8 each. The food was absolutely amazing and the service was top-notch! Each dish was cooked to perfection and the atmosphere was just fantastic.

This is the second Candela restaurant I have visited, the first one is in Hicksville ,I believe that this one is better, the service was excellent, they were always around ready to help, the place itself was nice and clean with pictures and sounds of Perú giving it a good ambiance, the food was great, enjoyed the whole experience, I had the special of the day, grilled octopus, delicious and everyone else in the party enjoyed their choices read more

My family went to the Commack location for the time and was disappointed. The waitress was sweet but she was the only one working and the drinks and food took a long time to get. The meals were flavorless and the dishes with the rice pyramid were just that...rice. There was hardly any beef or chicken mixed in. It's a nice presentation but a disappointment once you break the pyramid. We will not be going back again. read more

3 of us went for the first time...all were very happy! Such nice, efficient servers! That is important :) The food was great. All had different things, chicken and beef this time. 2 out of 3 ate every bite, the third brought some home & had it the next day! Love this chain! Love that they are expanding! We originally found the first candela in Hicksville which is a much larger space. Then when we moved to Commack we knew about the Candela is Huntington, also a wonderful and large space. Now they opened this spot, with AMAZING FOOD. They have their liquor license and they are up and running. If you want to taste good Peruvian food, it's a must go! The Ceviche Mixto tasted perfect and finished everything. The fish was so fresh! The stuffed avacado con crema and chicken in the middle was so dressing and light to eat. Our dinners, so much food and enough to take home if you don't finish. To end off we have a tiramisu cake and took home our favorite, alfajore cookie. Go try their food!! If you want the best Peruvian food on Long Island, this is it!! read more

Ordered camarones saltados takeout on 3/5 and spent all night extremely sick from food poisoning. Mind you--I ate only a few bites as the food was not very edible--bland with an unpleasant odor. I do not recommend this establishment as I've never experienced food poisoning in my life. Oh and the best part was I charged $30 for this order. Nice little place been wanting to try for a while. On a Thursday 3 of us just one other couple there. Started w/a sour cocktail not bad at all. On jericho tnpk right across from Dicks sporting goods. I ordered grilled octopus shared w/wife & daughter ordered ceviiche appetizers. Octopus portion was huge & impressively tender, not overly seasoned. Quite good. Cheviche scallops, shrimp & squid (also incredibly tender) served cold w/lime juice & cilantro...quite good. Can't believe in 64 years have never tried. Main course (quite full at this point) I ordered skirt steak quite good w/golden potatoes & salad. Once again not overly seasoned. Just enough. Not tough which means everything to me. Could only have a few bites wrapped the rest to go. Wife had the paella which she enjoyed & daughter had some shrimp and chicken dish. All in all thumbs up & would return. read more

The restaurant was clean and the food and service was good, but it is over-priced and they don't have a lunch menu.

We got takeout and the food was great! I loved the flavor of the pollo saltado and the papa las huancaina were also very yummy.

The worst in a long time. Four of us tonight for dinner at 6:30. Server informs us they are out of chicken ( their most ordered dish), no Caesar Salad), and martini's only available with apple, not just plain. 1/2 hour for drinks to come. Entrees come out but no appetizers. Server tells us we didn't order them, although she repeated order to us. Appetizers about 20 minutes later. Fried calamari is a mix of fish sticks and squid, though menu does not mention that. Entrees follow shortly after. Paella is almost inedible, filled with grit and uncooked foul tasting clams. As we're finishing entrees, drink refills come out - way too late. Server does not ask about coffee or desser, just drops check. The Worst read more

Had dinner with my wife and I. She ordered skirt steak special and I ordered the grilled octopus special. The steak was ordered medium rare. Came back barely cooked- ultra rare. Had to be sent back. The octopus was so rubbery that it was "inedible"! When I told the waiter about the octopus at the end of the meal, he barely responded. Bill was not adjusted. Will never go back to this place again. I ordered a chicken dish with linguini in a "special sauce" for takeout. When I got home the food was just warm, the chicken was hard and it turned out to be spaghetti? What it tasted like was a home cook tried to make Chinese lo mein and failed. A complete waste of money. read more
