Hidden Gem Alert! My friends and I recently discovered Pisco Peruvian Nikkei, tucked away in a shopping center in Centereach, and what an incredible find it was! From the moment we walked in, it felt like we had stepped into a chic Manhattan restaurant. The ambiance is a beautiful fusion of Peruvian and Asian influences. One wall features stunning artwork of an Asian woman, while another pays homage to Peruvian culture. A cozy lounge area with tan leather seating is anchored by a magnificent tree adorned with vibrant red leaves--it was absolutely beautiful. Toward the back of the restaurant, beneath the striking mural, is the sushi bar, adding even more character to the space. We chose to sit at the bar in the heart of the restaurant, perfectly positioned to take in both the Peruvian and Asian influences that make this place so unique. Our bartender, Santiago, was exceptional. He was warm, attentive, and genuinely wanted to make sure we enjoyed every part of our dining experience. Waiting for us at the bar was a delicious green sauce paired with roasted Peruvian corn to snack on--a simple touch that set the tone for the meal to come. For dinner, we ordered the lamb chops, and they were absolutely outstanding--perfectly cooked and so tender they practically melted in my mouth. They were served with fried rice infused with just the right hint of ginger, which was simply fabulous. Our host and manager, Kenia, graciously brought us a sample of their white rice, and it was just as flavorful and memorable. The food was exceptional, the atmosphere was inviting, and the hospitality was second to none. Every detail came together to create an unforgettable dining experience. I came in with high expectations and overall had a really good experience, with just a few things I'd tweak. First off, the restaurant itself is absolutely beautiful. The ambiance really sets the tone, it honestly made me feel like I was away on vacation, which I loved! It just has that kind of relaxing, elevated atmosphere that makes you want to sit back and enjoy the whole experience. The entrée was great ,the meat was cooked really well and the portion sizes were generous, which I definitely appreciated. The grilled Spanish octopus was also a standout, super flavorful and cooked perfectly. The mocktail I had (guava citrus) was amazing, refreshing and probably one of my favorite parts of the meal. The only thing that fell a bit short for me was the alfajores. I was really hoping for a fresh, melt-in-your-mouth dessert, but it tasted like it had been refrigerated. The flavor itself wasn't bad, just not what I expected, so I personally wouldn't recommend that item. I did pair that with a house coffee and wow it was so good I had to ask the waitress where was it from! The waitress was very knowledgeable, friendly and attentive! Nice Japanese-Peruvian spot with good food overall. I really appreciated that they customized an avocado cucumber roll for me--it's basically like a California roll without the crab, and it was perfect. Service is friendly, but the wait for entrées can still be quite long. Also, they only serve corn nuts while you wait, which felt a bit underwhelming. The restaurant is beautiful. Staff is super friendly. Food was just okay. While the menu had a decent selection of food and drinks nothing we had tasting out of this world amazing. Everything was extremely overpriced. The bacon presentation was nice but definitely was not worth the price. We also werent crazy for the scallops dish. At almost $4 a piece it was definitely not worth it. We ordered the sushi platter. It was $85 and while it was good. It was not worth it. There was only 3 different fish. All the fish was really fresh and delicious but for that price we expected more variety. I did love the sushi sandwiches and would ordered that alone if it was an option. Overall it was a decent meal and great atmosphere with the live music but definitely not something to go to often. Maybe just special occasions. read more

The ambience was a feel of Manhattan right here in Centereach. The service was top-notch. Hardly waited for anything very attentive to us. The food was very good. I recommend the Lomo Saltado. The Surf and Turf was overcooked but the Management promptly took care of this and ordered us around the drinks for the table as well as a generous discount off the bill. Very impressed. This place is a total vibe. Cool ambiance, good music, nice little lounge area up front by the bar. This was my first time trying Peruvian food which is very heavy on the seafood and I'm new to trying most types of seafood so I feel like this was a good opportunity to experiment. My bf and I split the scallop app and the octopus app-the tiraditos de pulpo-I didn't like that one at all but my friend had gotten the grilled octopus and that was much better. The scallops were very good, it was kind of like a ceviche in a clam shell. For the entree, I went with the haucatey salmon which came with mashed yuca. It was soo good I ate the whole thing! There were a lot of flavors going on in all the dishes. For drinks I went the improve whiskey and the bourbon morado-the morado was much better. We came here a couple weeks ago. The décor is beautiful, and the staff provided excellent service. They were both polite and attentive, which created a welcoming atmosphere. That said, the menu felt too limited and would benefit from additional options to provide more variety. Portions were small too. The meal was like an app in other places. The bar selection was also somewhat narrow and limited. While there was an extensive offering of tequila, it did not pair as well with the cuisine. Expanding the choices to include items such as sake or rum would create better balance. Another surprising detail was that dessert was available, but coffee was not. Adding coffee to the menu would greatly enhance the overall dining experience. After our meal, we had to visited the French bakery and café next door to round out the evening. This can be a deal breaker on the visit. Who ever heard of a place that sells desert and no tea or coffee. With the addition of entertainment, such as live music or a DJ, and some adjustments to the menu and beverage program, this restaurant could easily become a five-star destination. read more

My wife called to see if they were open on Memorial Day (they were) for dinner. She was told to make a reservation as they expected to be crowded. We showed up a bit early. There was one occupied table and a few people at the bar. We were told to wait by the bar as they needed to get the table ready. This was confusing as only one table was occupied and all of the empty tables were already set up. Someone came over to see if we wanted drinks. No, we were waiting for a table. 15 minutes go by, no activity at the tables, no one tells us anything. The hostess, manager and another employee were all just standing around the hostess stand talking. So we left. Seems like they directed us to the bar only to pad their bill and make us wait. Terrible customer service. Not worth even trying their food if they're going to be playing games. read more

We stopped by for an early dinner on a Saturday. The bar was widely available, but quickly filled up as the sun went down. We had a great time, David the bartender took care of us really well. We will definitely be back! The decor is beautiful! The drinks, apps, and food were all on point! We started with the Hotate a la Chalaca, which are beautifully plated scallops. They were amazing, reminded me of a plate down in Miami. For the entree, I did the Tri-color Ceviche, it was really good but it was very similar to my app, next time I'll choose differently. My only tiny complaint, the amount charged and what was provided was a little on the small side, for the sweet potato, I was given two very small cubes, at least try to fill me up that way, but I digress. My husband ordered the bistec a lo Pobre, it all came out very well. We will definitely be back to try other menu items. To finish off the night, I ordered the espresso martini. They didn't have the Pisco matcha cake, maybe next time. read more

I really wanted to give this place a 5-star rating because the ambiance and food were absolutely incredible. Unfortunately, the service was very disappointing. The waitresses seemed more focused on chatting among themselves than attending to their tables. I had to flag someone down every time we needed something, and our food was actually delivered by the kitchen staff while our waitress continued her conversation. Since gratuity is automatically included, it seemed like there was little motivation to provide attentive service. For a restaurant that presents itself as upscale, the experience should reflect that standard. With better training and management, this place could truly be exceptional. For now, I'd probably stick to takeout instead of dining in, which is a shame because I've been excited about this restaurant since construction began. I genuinely hope they improve, because the potential here is undeniable. read more

Pisco restaurant in Selden- i am Peruvian and like to try new places- this is Nikkei and was closest home. Inside is very nice, large. The music, a little loud for my taste & for speaking to staff& amongst ourselves! For appetizers we got Bao Lomo- very good but I like the softness of the bread and this was toasted! Meat Inside had excellent taste though also got causa with crispy shrimp app, deliciously done & lastly sweet ribs which my son enjoyed. Entree was confusing to me- originally I ordered Lamb Saltado, which to me should include rice and french fries- it didn't- my son got that & I ordered the 2 sides..it was lamb, nicely presented and a sauce underneath, again great taste! I changed my lamb order to La Mitad- a dish if Pesto spaghetti (tallarin verde) &yellow pasta(huancayina sauce) & 2 skewers of meat that tasted good but had fatty meat. My husband ordered Steak a lo pobre and let me tell you thete was nothing "pobre " about it- highest price ($43) on the menu- came with a small round of fried rice, steak, chorizo- he liked it. All in all, the food was delicious, little too much emphasis on the presentation and not actually on trueness of what you get... First time at the restaurant. I ordered a Pisco sour and the basic ceviche. While the sour was good, the ceviche was excellent. Fresh fish and my choice of how spicy. Medium was just fine. As it was a Sunday afternoon, there was a singer guitarist. She was very good, but the amp was too loud for me. It was difficult to have a conversation. Pisco is a restaurant with a unique concept -- a Peruvian-Japanese fusion that truly stands out. The atmosphere and décor are impeccable, the background music creates a pleasant vibe, and the presentation of the dishes is excellent. The food was exquisite, full of flavor and creativity. However, the service could use some improvement. We noticed that some of the servers are not very proactive or attentive unless something is specifically requested. They also forgot to bring the silverware and one of the dishes we ordered. Management should consider hiring staff with more experience in customer service, as that would elevate the dining experience to match the restaurant's high culinary standards. Perhaps if the gratuity were not automatically included, it might motivate the staff to provide more attentive service. read more

WOW - Absolutely love this place. This area has been craving a spot with that true city vibe and Pisco nailed it. We've already been twice and we're hooked. The food was way over priced and I couldn't hear the waitress because of the loud music, (house music only by the way) it's a Spanish restaurant that doesn't even match its decor, and I couldn't even hear my wife when we were speaking at the table. I heard the waitress say 40 oz steak for $55 and it turned out to be $160 just for the steak alone. This isn't even a steak house place and it wasn't all that good.
