Been here once before for a special occasion. Returned for Christmas Eve dinner. Had the skirt steak with rice and beans. Rice and beans were great! The skirt steak was better the first time I went. This time it was not as tender and it was rolled up vs the first time it was nicely cut and presented. My daughter's carne asada was the better choice because it was nicely sliced and a more tender cut of meat. The appetizers were really delicious, we had nachos, baked clams and calamari. The nachos are not on the menu but when we asked for it, they made it for us. For dessert the standout was their flan and chocolate lava cake. The place was a little chilly inside. I've driven past this place many times and finally came here for a date night with my husband. It was very good. The ambiance is perfect, not too dark and not too light. Service was good too aside from bit of wait to get the check, hence why this is four stars. Food was excellent. We shared the Avocado Shrimp Ceviche as an appetizer. My husband had the Ropa Vieja and I had the Island Salmon which had a nice crisp to it, excellent dish. For dessert we shared the Havana Flan. I've been searching for a delectable flan and I have finally found my place. The toasted almonds on top was such a nice touch. Tried Coco for the first time & everything was tasty & delicious. It was 5 of us that had a variety of food from pasta to steak. For apps the empanadas were cooked to perfection as well as the stuffed sweet plantains different & delicious. The drinks were also great as they had cocktail & mock-tail menus. I had the carne asada with rice & beans delicious. The pork chop was also great! The scallops made to perfection. We have been coming here for over 10 years. It is one of our favorite restaurants and our go to for Comfort food. The food remains excellent but we were disappointed with the pitcher of sangria The pitcher was smaller and it was not the same quality we had grown accustomed to. It tasted more like fruit punch than wine. The gratuity was also built into the bill. We always tip generously but didn't like being told too. This restaurant is a beautiful gem with authentic Cuban food. I ordered the chicken soup which was amazing down to the seasoning and actually pieces of meat chucks in it. My entree was the Seafood Mofongo- which was good however not the Top 5 best I have experienced in other restaurants. My date and I ordered chips & guac which was "Amazing" especially because the restaurant has well seasoned sauce from non spicy to very spicy "with the still very spicy because seasoned while still very spicy". My date ordered the Surf & Turf which was a very strong pick and good dish. I actually caught myself consistently picking at my date's plate because the dish was really good. Lastly, service was phenomenal and zero complaints about the staff. I would absolutely come back here. The plenty of parking is a plus as well! P.S. What a great atmosphere Coco Bistro has, the fish tank, the trees, the outside patio, very cool. The service was friendly and attentive. We opted for the empanadas which were good and I enjoyed the dipping sauce but for $5 a pop, I don't think it was worth it. For dinner my wife enjoyed the salmon, flavored really well. I had the Ropa Vieja and it was seasoned well, but for $32, I would expect a lot more beef than what was given. I probably could have eaten it in 3 bites. After my dinner with rice and beans and eating my wife's rice and beans, I was still left hungry. So the food was really good, I would just eat a protein bar or something beforehand. read more

For starters .., Amazing impeccable service by our server Sariah! We had a huge party of 8 indecisive ppl celebrating a bday & she handled our orders with care & dealt with our picky choices & moods. She Was very understanding , patient & accommodating. 5 stars to her give her a raise ! Now on to the food... Food was great too except that my steak was not cooked to perfection the way I requested. I wanted medium well & it was still bloody Sariah handled that & got a new steak prepared for me. The appetizers were amazing too! My partner and I went to coco bistro for the first time and truly enjoyed it. We had an early dinner so it was not a lot of people inside and we were seated immediately. We were than greeted by our waiter and he was lovely and also gave advice on the food. The dining area had warm lighting and we were put near the fist tank which was so nice to watch (almost calming). We ordered appetizers as well as a main and dessert; and everythign was so delicious. Went for a dinner during the holidays. The atmosphere here is great! Elegant and sexy. They decorated this restaurant perfectly. Winter Moscow Mule was tasty. Expresso Martini was a little bland. Came here for date night. Did not disappoint! We were seated immediately for our reservation time. The sangria was delicious and the appetizers were full of Flavor. I was a bit full but managed to eat some of the main entree. The roasted chicken is massive. The red beans are authentic excellent flavor, I needed more but decided to not bother the waiter. The arroz con pollo was also delicious, minor criticism could use more chicken to arroz ratio for those who focus on protein. For dessert we had the flan which is topped with almonds. New name, still the same fun food along with higher prices. Coco Bistro Kitchen & Lounge, a stalwart in the Smithtown dining scene has a new name but nothing else has changed. This is a big space, there are three levels of Dining, Dancing and Drinking libations. We usually meet our friends when we go out, one couple had a last minute emergency. My wife and I went to the restaurant 30 minutes beforehand to have a drink at their nice looking bar. Dancing downstairs is happening. I mean, I am Bill S, the non hispanic causing panic on the dance floor. Tonight, my wife wants a low key evening so we have a drink at the upstairs bar. We're able to have cocktails and conversation upstairs. Our friends arrive and we're quickly seated. I ordered Coconut Shrimp for a starter. Mmm.. It's my favorite appetizer. My buddy & I ordered the same thing, skirt steak with chimichurri sauce. Its my favorite dish and I wrote about it before and yes the Mofongo still sucks. haha After we finish dinner, I order an espresso as well as the famous Tres Leches cake. What an amazing experience! It's rare when you come across a restaurant that really hits the nail on the head- and this is definitely IT! The ambiance is very nice and intimate from the moment you enter the dining room- definitely the perfect place for a date night. From beginning to end everyone was very attentive and accommodating. Our server Sariah especially was very attentive to us and actually gave us recommendations towards what to get. Per her recommendation, I ended up getting the Seafood Paella and my brother picked the Skirt Steak. We swapped a bit of everything we got so we each got a taste of everything and our unanimous vote was that it was 5/5 stars from the meal to the whole experience! Appetizers: -Beef Empanadas: so flavorful and perfectly crisp. Perfect ratio -Stuffed Sweet Plantain: Such a pleasant surprise combined with the beef and mozzarella. Mains: -Seafood Paella: (saffron rice, mussels, shrimp, clams, scallops, calamari) AMAZING! so perfectly seasoned and moist. Such a nice ratio of all the seafood- a delight entirely! -Skirt Steak: (pico de gallo, chimichurri, white rice, red beans) FLAVORFUL! While visiting family in New York decided to have a girls night out and we ended up coming here. I have been here before when it was a different name, I believe the Cuban cafe...nothing has changed but the name inside looks the same. The drinks were great, ordered a Moscow mule which the first one was almost spilled on me but it was fine. Thankfully that wasn't the case. Only reason it receives 4 stars because of that and the flan.....I'm sorry but the flan tasted like it was in the fridge for a very long time and it was old. Wasn't a big fan of that and we didn't eat it all. I'm a flan lover and yeah that wasn't it. The food was delicious, I loved the chips and guac very fresh. I ordered the island salmon which was surprisingly delicious the coconut rice was amazing it was a great touch. My friends ordered the carne asada and the pernil asado...the carne was delicious and juicy! I loved it I tried a piece of it. The pernil was good too I do wish it was a little more juicy but all in all everything was cooked amazingly. Service and ambience is excellent. Came here for brunch, and all of us adults ordered a Cuban sandwich on a French baguette, and it came with a side of fries. The sandwich was so delicious. Yum, I had to order one to-go! The chocolate chip pancakes were also a hit with the kiddos. So soft and fluffy and mouth-watering whip cream. Also enjoyed their fresh pressed sunset juice, which consisted of carrots, oranges, beets, and lemon, and requested to add ginger. Our waiter was super attentive. Our cups were never empty. There seems to be a downstairs I believe is a club? Not too sure. Didn't ask. All I can say is we will be back to try more of their other deliciousness. All kids work here and have no idea how to run a business. The host Sophia is rude,nasty young girl who should not be the first person you see when you walk in. She tried sitting my husband and I at a table where we were not happy with and then sat us in the corner between two other couples, meanwhile there were so many tables open the whole time we were there till we left!! We should have just left at this point. Thank god Zach was such a great waiter! But the kitchen got our order wrong twice! We asked for pickled onions on our nachos and they gave us pickles !!! Came here recently for a happy hour visit with one of my girlfriends and we had a timeeeee!!! Omar perfectly crafted our drinks and we are eternally grateful for him. We tried three margaritas; pomegranate, blackberry and 43 berry. All were fantastic but the 43 Berry Margarita was our absolute favorite! We then shared an order of guava wings (a must have!) and each got a taco trio featuring shrimp, carne asada, and carnitas tacos. Though all were very tasty, the shrimp taco blew the others out of the water! We actually ordered more shrimp tacos for the road lol. Overall, we had a wonderful experience that only made us love the restaurant more. Wow, this was a pleasant surprise! My husband was given a gift certificate to Coco Bistro and we finally found a night to give it a try. We were skeptical because we saw that it was previously called Cafe Havana...and it just seemed like maybe they slapped some new paint and changed the name to get new reviews. Boy, were we wrong. It was a rainy night, so when we first drove into the parking lot, we both thought, oh geez, a dressed up diner. When we entered the doors, we were surprised to see a well-appointed outdoor patio. Up the stairs to the main restaurant;cozy, warm, absolutely lovely! Staff was friendly and efficient and got us seated right away. Thankfully we had made reservations because the place was packed! It's loud. It's expensive. It is Soooooooo good!!!!! I have to say, the staff was exceptional. We were so well cared for and the wait staff worked like a well rehearsed dance troop. The waiter would leave, the bus-people would attend to water, bringing food, etc., and all with a smile and lovely personality. I love when an establishment's staff is happy. It tells me that they are passionate, and take pride in their job, which is a positive reflection on management. We shared the coconut shrimp and crab/avocado salad for apps. The shrimp live up to their reputation-crispy, not greasy at all, well seasoned, and cooked to perfection. The sauce was on the sweet side for both of us, so we added a squeeze of lime from the crab salad-perfect! The crab salad was expensive at $24 but it was a healthy portion of super fresh, delicately seasoned crab, perfect avocado and accouterment of mango/tomato salsa. Honestly, I was full at this point, but food was still coming... Entrees: I had the "Island Salmon." I asked for it cooked medium and subbed out the black beans for veggies. I had low expectations because I can't remember the last time I had well-cooked salmon, but I love it so, and was willing to give it a shot WOW! I don't know how they did it. the outside was seared to a crisp outer crust, the inside was moist, juicy and cooked to perfection. Deftly seasoned with a hint of lemon atop a non-intrusive dollop of pesto. Served with a heaping mound of coconut rice that was SO good. Not sweet or tacky or gloppy. Just perfectly cooked rice with a smooth finish and fragrance of coconut. Veggies were simple zucchini and broccoli. Again, cooked to still have a fresh snap and tasty. Husband had the Perino Asada. I don't eat meat, so I didn't try it, but he was oohing and aahing as much as I was. He said the meat was so tender, it fell apart, and the flavor was deep and magnificent. He pretty much cleaned the plate. For dessert, we shared the coconut pie with vanilla Icecream. It was different than what we expected. Almost more like a flan texture than a custard, but very light and not overly sweet. The crust was also light and airy with a hint of salt that opened the palate. We ordered two coffee drinks: peppermint patty and buttered rum. They were both so delectable, we would take a sip, and swap! I forgot to mention; with our meal I had two glasses of the California Chardonnay, and my husband had two martinis--the cucumber mint and a traditional. Both were exceptional. The bill with tax/tip came to $242. Not an inexpensive night out, but well worth it . read more
