Island Salmon
Elizabeth M.

I've driven past this place many times and finally came here for a date night with my husband. It was very good. The ambiance is perfect, not too dark and not too light. Service was good too aside from bit of wait to get the check, hence why this is four stars. Food was excellent. We shared the Avocado Shrimp Ceviche as an appetizer. My husband had the Ropa Vieja and I had the Island Salmon which had a nice crisp to it, excellent dish. For dessert we shared the Havana Flan. I've been searching for a delectable flan and I have finally found my place. The toasted almonds on top was such a nice touch. The food was a little pricey for my taste but for the overall experience and delicious food I will definitely be back.

Joe and I had a very pleasant dinner with a few of our friends. Love the ambiance of Coco Bistro! The decor is gorgeous. Very spacious dinning area and large beautiful bar. Staff was hard working, friendly and helpful. We all thought the food was amazing! Would definitely recommend!

Tried Coco for the first time & everything was tasty & delicious. It was 5 of us that had a variety of food from pasta to steak. For apps the empanadas were cooked to perfection as well as the stuffed sweet plantains different & delicious. The drinks were also great as they had cocktail & mock-tail menus. I had the carne asada with rice & beans delicious. The pork chop was also great! The scallops made to perfection. It was pricey so make sure to check out the website to see the prices or extra charges! Overall birthday lunch was great with good friends & food!

For starters .., Amazing impeccable service by our server Sariah! We had a huge party of 8 indecisive ppl celebrating a bday & she handled our orders with care & dealt with our picky choices & moods. She Was very understanding , patient & accommodating. 5 stars to her give her a raise ! Now on to the food... Food was great too except that my steak was not cooked to perfection the way I requested. I wanted medium well & it was still bloody Sariah handled that & got a new steak prepared for me. The appetizers were amazing too! I loved the coconut shrimp & the sweet sauce it came with also the presentation served in a coconut added a nice touch. So divine! My mouth is drooling just thinking about them. The rice & beans / plantains were also very flavorful the other ppl in my party ordered red snappers & roasted chicken. & my fam is a very picky bunch. If they do not like something oh they'll make sure you know it lol. Everyone enjoyed their meal this night! Thanks again Oh & I forgot to mention the drinks they were tasty too the martini she suggested was spot on! Sweet but still enough to get the job done Thanks again

Empanadas

What a great atmosphere Coco Bistro has, the fish tank, the trees, the outside patio, very cool. The service was friendly and attentive. We opted for the empanadas which were good and I enjoyed the dipping sauce but for $5 a pop, I don't think it was worth it. For dinner my wife enjoyed the salmon, flavored really well. I had the Ropa Vieja and it was seasoned well, but for $32, I would expect a lot more beef than what was given. I probably could have eaten it in 3 bites. After my dinner with rice and beans and eating my wife's rice and beans, I was still left hungry. So the food was really good, I would just eat a protein bar or something beforehand.

My partner and I went to coco bistro for the first time and truly enjoyed it. We had an early dinner so it was not a lot of people inside and we were seated immediately. We were than greeted by our waiter and he was lovely and also gave advice on the food. The dining area had warm lighting and we were put near the fist tank which was so nice to watch (almost calming). We ordered appetizers as well as a main and dessert; and everythign was so delicious. I absolutely loved the stuffed plantain. My steak was rolled up and loved the presentation. I would love to go back as soon as I can.

Arroz con Pollo

Came here for date night. Did not disappoint! We were seated immediately for our reservation time. The sangria was delicious and the appetizers were full of Flavor. I was a bit full but managed to eat some of the main entree. The roasted chicken is massive. The red beans are authentic excellent flavor, I needed more but decided to not bother the waiter. The arroz con pollo was also delicious, minor criticism could use more chicken to arroz ratio for those who focus on protein. For dessert we had the flan which is topped with almonds. The atmosphere is intimate, dimmed lights. We will come back when there's music hopefully in the summer

Shrimp Mofongo

Went for a dinner during the holidays. The atmosphere here is great! Elegant and sexy. They decorated this restaurant perfectly. Winter Moscow Mule was tasty. Expresso Martini was a little bland. Mango Scallop and Shrimp were flavorful! Mofongo was ok, but the sauce was salty. Waitstaff were professional and attentive. Would definitely come back here to try the rest of the menu!

Skirt steak with mofongo

New name, still the same fun food along with higher prices. Coco Bistro Kitchen & Lounge, a stalwart in the Smithtown dining scene has a new name but nothing else has changed. This is a big space, there are three levels of Dining, Dancing and Drinking libations. We usually meet our friends when we go out, one couple had a last minute emergency. My wife and I went to the restaurant 30 minutes beforehand to have a drink at their nice looking bar. Dancing downstairs is happening. I mean, I am Bill S, the non hispanic causing panic on the dance floor. Tonight, my wife wants a low key evening so we have a drink at the upstairs bar. We're able to have cocktails and conversation upstairs. Our friends arrive and we're quickly seated. I ordered Coconut Shrimp for a starter. Mmm.. It's my favorite appetizer. My buddy & I ordered the same thing, skirt steak with chimichurri sauce. Its my favorite dish and I wrote about it before and yes the Mofongo still sucks. haha After we finish dinner, I order an espresso as well as the famous Tres Leches cake. Folks, this is a must when you come to Coco Bistro Kitchen. Great meal, great drinks in a fun setting, total fan of Coco Bistro Kitchen.

What an amazing experience! It's rare when you come across a restaurant that really hits the nail on the head- and this is definitely IT! The ambiance is very nice and intimate from the moment you enter the dining room- definitely the perfect place for a date night. From beginning to end everyone was very attentive and accommodating. Our server Sariah especially was very attentive to us and actually gave us recommendations towards what to get. Per her recommendation, I ended up getting the Seafood Paella and my brother picked the Skirt Steak. We swapped a bit of everything we got so we each got a taste of everything and our unanimous vote was that it was 5/5 stars from the meal to the whole experience! Appetizers: -Beef Empanadas: so flavorful and perfectly crisp. Perfect ratio -Stuffed Sweet Plantain: Such a pleasant surprise combined with the beef and mozzarella. Mains: -Seafood Paella: (saffron rice, mussels, shrimp, clams, scallops, calamari) AMAZING! so perfectly seasoned and moist. Such a nice ratio of all the seafood- a delight entirely! -Skirt Steak: (pico de gallo, chimichurri, white rice, red beans) FLAVORFUL! Such a well seasoned and cooked skirt steak with a combination of their perfectly tasteful white rice and red beans! Desserts: -Havana Flan: So rich and decadent. It is topped with almonds that are toasted and it really adds a nice texture, crunch, and all around flavor. -Lava Cake: (chocolate cake, raspberry puree, coconut flakes, toasted almonds, vanilla ice cream) Beautifully paired altogether! All around great experience- we will definitely be back for more!

While visiting family in New York decided to have a girls night out and we ended up coming here. I have been here before when it was a different name, I believe the Cuban cafe...nothing has changed but the name inside looks the same. The drinks were great, ordered a Moscow mule which the first one was almost spilled on me but it was fine. Thankfully that wasn't the case. Only reason it receives 4 stars because of that and the flan.....I'm sorry but the flan tasted like it was in the fridge for a very long time and it was old. Wasn't a big fan of that and we didn't eat it all. I'm a flan lover and yeah that wasn't it. The food was delicious, I loved the chips and guac very fresh. I ordered the island salmon which was surprisingly delicious the coconut rice was amazing it was a great touch. My friends ordered the carne asada and the pernil asado...the carne was delicious and juicy! I loved it I tried a piece of it. The pernil was good too I do wish it was a little more juicy but all in all everything was cooked amazingly. Service and ambience is excellent. A little on the high end price but there is value in the food, oh and It wasn't busy for a Friday night.

Run here! Are you running? Seriously! Bring yourself here ASAP! I didn't know what to expect when I decided to come here. I just wanted a new spot to go to with my dad. Pulling up to it, I was very underwhelmed. As soon as I opened the door, I saw the patio and I was intrigued and then the main door and I was just so confused in a good way. Where did all this come from? It's so Beautiful and big!! Really nice vibe! Service was great! AND THE FOOD INCREDIBLE!! That snapper thoooo . I'm Jamaican so we know how to fry a fish and THIS was seasoned and fried to perfection (not pictured are the plantains, rice and beans and veggies) all ginger looking good! My dad devoured his paella and the drinks were delicious! On the receipt , it said if you bring it to brunch you get 10% off! Not that I needed it, I already decided I was going back but the added incentive is a bonus! 10 STARS!!!!

Ask the Community - Coco Bistro Kitchen & Lounge

Are reservations excepted for a party of 15?

I would imagine it's the best idea to have a reservation for that large of a group so they are ready for you

Did they only change the name from Cafe Havana to Coco Bistro or is this a completely different concept/decor and menu now?

It's mostly just a name change, because the decor and menu are largely the same. They have added some new options though. I was nervous because this is one of my favorite restaurants, but I have been there several times since the change and it's… Read more

Any music live band in this atmosphere or only Dining?

No music yet, unfortunately

I heard there was salsa dancing here? Where?

The have a nightclub downstairs. Never been there when it was busy. Last time we dined upstairs, the club was closed - possibly for summer. Call ahead.

Do they have take out?

Yes Cafe Havana offers take out, or curbside pickup.

Is it kid friendly?

Yes, it is. I brought my one year old. (They have high chairs). There are steps inside though. And there is not a changing table in any of the bathrooms.

Do they have valet or handicap parking and Is the dining area on the main floor?

They have valet and yes dining area is on main floor

I made a reservation for two on a Saturday night, and the restaurant was pretty busy, but they had our table ready even though we arrived 30 minutes early. Our server was Evelyn, and she was so sweet and she helped us when we were trying to decide between two desserts and three appetizers. We ordered: - Spring Salad (5/5) this tasted so good with the fresh mango, the snap peas, and the carrot ginger dressing. - Faroe Islands Salmon (5/5) I only tasted the rice, and not the salmon itself, but the rice was so good, and I just kept on stealing more from the plate. - Roasted-Half Chicken (4/5) This was my own entrée, and I loved how the chicken was crispy, and I also really liked the garlic mashed potatoes, but the only thing that I did not think worked well with the dish was the swiss chard. I think it would've tasted better with spinach. - Strawberry Cheesecake (4/5) this was surprisingly very light for a cheesecake, we ended up finishing all of it, and the whipped cream was really good. The strawberries were not my favorite, I kind of wish that they were just fresh slices of strawberries, but to each their own. All in all, this was a super solid meal, there's plenty of parking, and the restaurant is quite spacious, and the single bathrooms are also pretty large.

I wish it came with chips rather than toasted pita because it was a little too heavy -French dip: this wasn't good. The steak was fatty and tasted reheated. Also I substituted truffle fries and they were way too salty. The overall restaurant was nice, but I wouldn't get the French dip.

Between the warm, cozy atmosphere and a live band playing, it felt festive without being chaotic. It's exactly what you want during the holidays. We went full "let's share everything" mode, starting with the Wood-Fired Artichoke-Spinach Dip Pizzetta, and wow. Spinach, artichokes, béchamel, shaved parm, mozzarella, garlic dressing, and baby arugula all working together in perfect harmony. Easy 10/10. I'm still thinking about it and already planning my next visit just to order it again. Next up was the crab rangoon dip, which was rich, indulgent, and dangerously good. Followed by the beer cheese jumbo pretzel. They wee soft, salty, and exactly what you want alongside drinks. Zero regrets. We wrapped things up with the Kung Pao Cauliflower Bites, and they were such a pleasant surprise. The tempura cauliflower stayed crispy, the General Tso's-style sauce had just the right balance of sweet and heat, and the cashews, sesame seeds, and scallions added great texture. Drink-wise, we shared a bottle of wine from their solid selection, but I also have to shout out their massive cocktail menu, so many options that I'll definitely be back to explore it properly next time. The cherry on top? We made our reservation on Yelp . Between the food, drinks, live music, and overall atmosphere, Husk and Vine was a total win for a night out. Can't wait to return!

A big thank you to our waiter Michael for his generous hospitality and for making my birthday lunch…read moreso special! Fauna was on our list of restaurants to try for a while and I'm so glad this was my decision. Hot and dirty martini to start b/c why not! So good. 10/10 Popovers one word. Get! Peas gave a good sweetness, pasta had a good lemony taste, the slow roasted ricotta had a strong sun-dried tomato flavor which paired well with the focaccia bread. 8/10 Expresso martini one of the best I have ever had. 10/10 Pecan chocolate cake for dessert, rich and decadent. 10/10 Highly recommend, and we both look forward to returning. We only saw the waitress one time. After waiting 15 minutes, she arrived to take our order and we NEVER saw her again. The potato purée with truffle cream and leeks, which we requested to arrive first hadn't arrived after what seemed like 15 to 20 minutes so we got up from the table and apparently they made a mistake and it should've been brought to the table and when it did, it was cold or barely warm. We tried to find someone to get us to help us, but after five minutes gave up and decided to eat it. You couldn't taste any truffle and we ate it just because we were hungry, but it was extremely disappointing. There were hardly any leaks on it and they were overcooked. Next, there was confusion over our entrée which we were splitting and we wanted to come out and we again had to try to track someone down to explain to please send out the entrée. When it arrived, the fish had been pounded down thin and was covered in breading and so much oil that it was completely disgusting and inedible. Instead of a beautiful piece of juicy flounder, we got a dry, oily thin piece, which was mostly breading and really disgusting. It had no flavor. Green beans which they put a fancy name on to make it sound special while they were overcooked and tasteless and the sweet potatoes were watered down. The rum banana was overcooked and would have been better suited as a dessert. We then had to get up from the table again because we never found our waitress so we had to go to the hostess so we can retrieve our bill and left a very undeserving 15% tip. We managed to find someone else to bring us some containers to take on the food that we hadn't eaten and in the end, I don't know why we bothered because it went in the garbage. If you want terrible service and terrible food, then head on over to Fauna . If you want good service and good food walk a few feet and there you have Flora. Flora is a small intimate restaurant that is decorated beautifully had amazing service and cooks their food perfectly. They treat each customer as if they are their most special customer. We felt welcomed there and we felt like they went above and beyond to make us happy. It was such a different experience going to that. We are shocked the same owners owned both restaurants. Maybe they should try switching managers so Fauna can learn how to run things more like Flora. I have a feeling that Fauna makes most of their money on alcohol because you certainly don't wanna go there for the food or ambience. It's noisy and obnoxious. If you want a peaceful restaurant, that's beautiful and knows what their theme is then go on over to Flora. Fauna has lamps with deer, antlers and wood that is dark and uninviting and strange wallpaper with different animals on it in the bathroom and terrible smelling soap. Their menu is confusing as with their music, which was a mix of salsa and a type of music you would expect in a Mexican restaurant. You really missed the mark Fauna.
