Please note that each occasion was all catering for family and group events of 15-50 people. The food is amazing. They have a catering menu with plenty of selections. One of the events was for a family gathering, we just didn't feel like cooking for the 20 family members that we were planning to have over the house. This was a great option for us. Each time the food was cooked as requested. I will advise to always plan for a slight delay when picking up your food if is for a large group. For me it has always been about 15 min. This place is full service restaurant with plenty of seating and food to go. The establishment is also equipped with a separate room for small events or large family dinners. We have enjoyed the food and service at this location.

The only reason this spot received two stars was due to the dj and the service. They were very attentive and the music was great. The place was not even packed to be charging $20 at the door. This Ronkonkoma location is definitely a solid spot (and almost five-star worthy) of an empanada-shaped crown. You see, for years I've had (from Medford) and known about IE, but somehow, despite living in Ronkonkoma for more than four trips around the sun I just never had it from this location...until a few weeks ago. Honestly, part of the issue is/was the price. It doesn't always feel like you're truly getting your money's worth when ordering empanadas and sides and things on their own. But I will say, the nightly 5-8 dinner box deal actually combats pricing pretty nicely. Three empanadas and a couple of sides with a drink for $15.99 is a steal. What may not be as fantastic is the interior of this Island Empanada as it definitely looks like it could use a facelift. The place has a bit of an outdated feel, but I'll say the employees are pretty darn friendly (which really matters more than aesthetics). And what is most important is the food, and the empanadas at Island are quite tasty. My go-to trio is chorizo and potato, chipotle beef, and four cheese. Each has distinct flavor and add in some green and red sauce (plus those tostones with pink sauce and the formidable rice and beans as sides) and you have a delicious dinner ahead of you. Overall, Island Empanada of Ronkonkoma is borderline five stars with its great grub and friendly staff. Perhaps the place could use a little TLC and the pricing still is arguable, but there are ways around these aspects which makes it worth a dinner trip for takeout anytime you need a good Spanish crescent. Eat up these excellent enigmatic options and that's about all the "e" words I can think of.
