--I am going from 5 to 3 stars based on my most recent experience. --The service and food both seemed off. When I called to make a reservation I asked if they could serve a piece of birthday cake with a candle. After dinner, they didn't bring anything as if I never asked. At that point it would have looked stupid to order a piece of cake with a candle, so we got the gelato which was old and under portioned. --The service was cold. I never really felt welcome or catered to, almost like they were doing us a favor. She never bothered to chat with us or even tell us her name. Accidentally came across this cozy restaurant as I left the sunken meadow park. We went for a late lunch with another couple and the food was soo fresh and tasty. We enjoyed all of the dishes we ordered, the fish tacos were delicious and my avocado toast very satisfying. You can taste the fresh ingredients and the service was wonderful. Very attentive staff and would refill my water constantly. The restaurant was nicely decorated with red accents and clean. A very cute cafe in Kings Park with great drinks and even better food. They have an amazing happy hour with $10 apps with lots of options from different flavored mussels, caprese salad, meatballs, and zucchini fries to name a few. Drinks are also on happy hour til 6. The space is small and seating is limited so best to call for a reservation if it's around dinner time. They always have different specials on the board and the staff are so friendly. The bartender makes a great Amaretto Sour. Lunch was delicious. My husband and I shared a chicken sandwich and the French dip both with french fries. I would gladly eat either again. My uncle got a meatball sub with spaghetti. He was happy and it looked yummy! My aunt got a different chicken sandwich with Caesar salad and she told me she gets it every time they go. For dessert we had coconut tiramisu. It was good, but didn't have a lot of the coffee flavor. I wouldn't get it again, but it is my aunt and uncles favorite. My husband had a pistachio brownie...like a brownie with walnuts or peanuts but instead it had bits of pistachio. That was so good. The waitress was nice, and good with refills....which I love as I tend to finish my water quickly and like it to be full. It was cozy for lunch and I feel it could be romantic for dinner. I have had numerous dishes from Cafe Reds menu without one disappointment, that goes for my two young adult children and their father as well. A Family owned restaurant who are all on top of their game on serving their patrons well. One can tell the food is always freshly made. Never an over used oily taste on anything fried. Their sauces are deliciously made. Service is again , pleasing , welcoming and inviting . A waste of time and money. We went to this place because they had another restaurant in Huntington that was a memorable experience. We ordered the seafood platter as an appetizer ($20) and got a tiny dish with ONE shrimp, ONE scallop cut in 4, 5-6 calamari rings that had been frozen and a bunch of zucchini fries. For the main meal I ordered the hay and straw pasta which was the reason we returned.This dish is supposed to be spinach and white thin pasta in a cream and truffle sauce. the pasta was home made but thick and hard and the sauce was pure starch, no cream. My partner ordered a pasta in tomato sauce, he was served a lump of white pasta with sauce on top and the dish was full of water at the bottom. He had to tell them how to actually cook the dish. This was a major disappointment - the people are so nice though but it's not what we went for . We dined at 4 pm on a Saturday - dinner menu - my husband ordered scallops and risotto - scallops def small - taste bland to fair - risotto too watery and lacking flavor ! Even after trying to fix it after being served . I ordered monkfish - it was def not as it should be - was dry and mutilated , they used the sauce to try and hide what is presumably a lovely fish ! The rice was hard , I should've sent it back but was trying to just get through at this point bc I picked this place for my husbands bday and he was already just trying to do the same with his meal ! These meals did not match what the reviews had said , I would not recommend. I went into this place for the first time after being a resident for almost 10 years in the area. I usually go to Relish, which is amazing, across the street, but it happened to be closed. It is quite apparent that we were given an attitude upon arrival because some of us were not white. We were asked if we had a reservation in such a passive aggressive manner. Meanwhile, the restaurant was empty and no other patrons were asked this. I ordered the steak and eggs special and it came out super cold. Stopped by this charming cafe yesterday for lunch & my sister & I were greeted with a friendly smile & shown to a table. The decor highlighted RED & was beautifully done. We each had a salad & our waitress was friendly as was the person who was shadowing her. The restaurant is on the smaller side but that is a cafe. They offer brunch,lunch & dinner & we thought the menu was extensive & reasonably priced. We each had a salad-I opted for Insalata Terra with added piece of grilled chicken. Absolutely delicious!! The salad had almonds,pear,goat cheese & prosciutto over a bed of arugula. I asked for it chopped & it was done beautifully..the chicken was warm on top of the salad & so moist. We opted not to have dessert but we will be sure to come back to this most charming cafe read more

This was my third visit to Cafe Red. This time I came for lunch with a friend, in times previous, it had been for dinner. The menu has been expanded since my last visit, so there were plenty of options to choose from. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal, Chicken Capriccioso, as did my friend, shrimp scampi. The waitstaff was efficient, but never came back to see if we wanted refills on water or drinks. Restaurant Week 2020 review It's 2020 Long Island restaurant week and my wife & I would like to try a new restaurant so we chose Cafe Red. Now I must point out, we're coming to Kings Park on the bizzaro part of 25a. I feel this is the mirror world of the country road 25a, we all know 25a starts at RT111! The other, much longer 25a runs all the way from Queens and it's called Northern Blvd! We're seated in a small cozy gem of a restaurant. I see the small bar with a few nice looking beer taps. What leapt out was the cocktail menu so I chose the Kings Park Lemonade. made with Jack Daniel's whiskey, Cointreau and a splash of fresh lime juice. WOW! That was a pretty upscale cocktail. Our starters, I chose the fresh sea scallops wrapped in prosciutto. My wife chose the Frito Misto. Both items were cooked perfectly, my wifes dish had a lot of items for her starter. My entree, I chose Chicken Capricciosa. It a large piece of chicken cutlet that was pounded thin. It was topped with arugula, cherry tomato, thin red onions along with fresh mozzarella DRENCHED with balsamic vinaigrette. The chef was very heavy on the balsamic, it made my eyes water. I had to scape off all the arugula salad and take small salad bites with my chicken. My Coconut Tiramisu was a nice recovery, it was a large redeeming piece of dessert. We had couples on both the right and left sides of us that we spoke with while dining. Everyone was enjoying their meals, it seemed like they were regular customers. I have gone to Cafe Red a few times a year since they took over the space from Ciro's and always had a pleasant experience--the food and service was good and reliable. Well, not tonight! After I made a reasonable request from the manager, he was very rude as was some of the wait staff. I don't need to spend north of $200 for that. I hope the other patrons who "are regulars" were worth losing this long-time customer. Will NEVER come back. Do yourself a favor and just go down the street to Ciro's. read more

Cafe Red is a super small yet always poppin place. Again, we were walk ins and the hostess was super flexible with finding us a table. The menu is extensive but I heard a rumor about how well the scallops were prepared here.. they were right. Cooked to perfection and the mashed potatoes were so creamy. The frito misto was perfectly breaded and not greasy at all. Of course we had to get dessert. The crème brûlée was hands down my favorite, so flavorful and light. The tort had great flavor but could have used some ice cream or sauce with it (which I learned after you could have requested). Shoutout to hector as well- what great service!! read more

Went for dinner with my parents a few weeks ago. The food and service were both great, and the plus to it all was that waitstaff noticed that my husband had gone back to the car to get my nearly 90 year old mother a sweater since the AC was blowing pretty hard and they turned down the AC without us even asking. I have been wanting to come here for months and finally convinced my wife....Well we were not let down-Service was fantastic-Food was outstanding-So good that we actually went back for brunch the next morning- Caesar salad-outstanding dressing and fresh and delicious. The frito misto was outstanding! They had a watermelon soup special which essentially seemed to be watermelon purée with toasted almonds. It was good, but I would have included some feta or goat cheese crumbles and perhaps some chopped mint to round out that dish. The veal meatballs over fettuccine were outstanding--very light, and terrific flavor. We also enjoyed the ravioli bolognese--the flavor on that really packed a punch. Service was great. Wanted risotto, while researching, I seen this restaurant had it on their menu (didn't get it lol) & was only 20 min away from where I was. Never been before so I decided to go earlier (6:45) than I normally eat dinner since I read that its small, had time limitations to eat & I didn't want to wait too long. No wait at all. For a local spot, it's nice and yes, small so now I know why they put a time limit for ppl to eat. They do have an outdoor seating area in the parking lot. The server recommended the Prix Fix Dinner so that's what I went with (app, entrée, dessert) I chose, for my app, Eggplant Parm which was fine. Then Chicken Franchise which I've had better but it was ok. Two pieces of chicken, it comes with rice, one stalk of cauliflower & one stalk of broccoli, a few green beans which to be honest, perfect size for me since I only ate one piece of chicken. You can see exactly how it looked in the pic. Just something to keep in mind, the price on the website for Prix Fix Dinner states $31.95 pp in reality it's $36.95 just thought I'd mention that so ppl are aware. Oh, & the Blue Hawaiian was more $ too vs the website but I chose a Chianti instead. To be honest, I didn't compare the other prices on the menu with the website so I can't provide any more info. From reading random comments on yelp, I've noticed that ppl have been complaining about the prices, that's why I had mentioned it. The best part was the dessert....coconut tiramisu -delicious....they say the desserts are made in house. I was done in exactly an hour! They really time it to the minute. 1 hr for 1-2 ppl, 2 hrs up to 3-4 ppl, 2 1/2 hrs 5-6 ppl, 3 hrs 7+. Take a chance and try it, you never know, you may like it & if not, at least you tried someplace new. Lastly, the staff were all very nice!!! read more

The atmosphere and service here were very good. I found the service to be on the slow side, but not in a bad way. They don't rush you at all. If you are in a hurry, I would tell them at the outset. We weren't so well liked not being rushed. The food was very good. The veal meatballs are amazing, but I was a little disappointed that the pasta only came with two meatballs. If you're only getting two meatballs, I kind of expect them to be enormous and they were not. I get that food prices are really high right now and I'm not trying to take away from how delicious it was, but if you're starving you might try a different dish. read more

So as promised almost a little less than a year later my mom and I came back. After coming back the other night I quickly came to the immediate conclusion that I honestly made the most perfect choice for my mother's 60th Surprise dinner. No... I'm not kidding. Can I also mention how much I love Kings Park and the tight knit community that Kings Park is?! Seriously Cafe Red is quite an incredible and delicious and cute restaurant! First of all... eat the crusty bread with the eggplant caponata. I don't care if you're not eating carbs... here's to a night where you are and you will enjoy them! Trust and believe me you need to do it. Here's what we ordered: - French Martini: for Mom. Although she had to ask the waitress to ask the bartender to shake it a bit more she said it was delicious. I had a sip too and it was quite good. - Pink Lemonade Martini: for me. Honestly perfect. So so good. - Caeser Salad: which I had them split for the both of us. As I said to my mom, it was perfectly dressed and not overly done. Just the right amount of crispness from the lettuce to the perfection of the shaved parmesan to the crunch of the croutons. I had also asked for fresh ground black pepper on top of mine. - Hay & Straw Pasta: for me. It's fresh spinach and semolina pasta with mushrooms, cream, and white truffle oil. As it was Ash Wednesday I couldn't eat meat. This pasta is incredible. Some may feel it is too rich and maybe it is a little but it is damn delicious. - Seared Sea Scallops: for mom. It's scallops in a ginger and lime beurre blanc sauce and it usually comes with jasmine rice but as my mom doesn't care for rice she subbed it with mashed potatoes with seasonal vegetables. This dish is also damn good. The scallops were perfectly executed and able to be cut with a fork. Mashed potatoes tasted homemade too. Unfortunately we were stuffed and didn't have room for dessert but hopefully next time. And trust me... there will be a next time! Also unfortunately we didn't see Keith either. Had he been there I would've thanked him again profusely for a wonderful party for my mom. So Keith if you're reading this... THANK YOU AGAIN from the bottom of my heart. read more

As of January 2019, I am updating my review. Decided to have New Year's eve dinner at Cafe Red. While the portion size is very small for the money, the food quality is still good. That said, the staff, including the manager, could not have been anymore unfriendly, non-attentive, RUDE, and seemingly unhappy to be there. Considering the quaint atmosphere, there should definitely be more of a "happy" and "family" type of a feel... especially if you choose to dine in an establishment on a holiday like New Year's Eve. It's disappointing because Cafe Red is a place I really enjoyed going to. Been there many times in the past several years, knowing that "service" was never their forte. Clearly, it has sunk to a level that is not worth the prices they charge, and makes the good food an afterthought. read more
