As we were driving by, this restaurant caught our eye so we stopped in for dinner. We were sat quickly and presented with a bread and butter basket. Restaurant was clean, full of patrons and on the loud side. For appetizer, my husband ordered the fried shrimp. It was a large serving, served with both tartar and cocktail sauces. There was a nice, crisp breading on the shrimp, but I feel like they were fried just a little too much, as they were fairly dry. As we waited for our entrees, we became aware of the heat in the restaurant. It was extremely hot during a heat wave, and very uncomfortable. To the point, we asked for to-go boxes and our check from the server when she served our entrees. It was too hot to actually enjoy the meal. For dinner, my husband ordered the chicken pinocchio. A generous portion. Smothered in gravy, mushrooms and onions. He said it was delicious. I ordered the appetizer mussels marinara as my Entree. Again, a large portion. The marinara sauce was very good, and there were large slices of garlic throughout, which I enjoyed. Service was good. Spuntino has always been our go to restaurant for many years. Decent Italian food, good service and pleasant staff, however the last few times we have been there, the service was horrendous. Wait staff is very inattentive. Throughout the meal, it was difficult to get the server's attention for simple things like refilling drinks or asking for condiments. Appetizer dishes were not cleared before dinners were brought over and there was no room for meals plates. The waitress failed to come over and asked if we needed anything the entire time we were there. This last time was a disaster. It seems to be getting worse every time we come. Good service can make or break a dining experience, and unfortunately, this visit missed the mark. The food is great! When we went it was very quiet. We got a basket of bread once we sat down. I ordered a chicken Caesar salad; there was enough that I brought home my leftovers and got an extra meal out of it. I definitely recommend! read more

This place has THE BEST pizza. Came in a the first few times to grab quick slices and just... wow. Their pizza and bread in general is on point. They figured out the formula and they nail it every time. We recently went to Spuntino's St. James for the full in house dining experience and that was also fabulous - excellent service, friendly staff, very accommodating to any requests we had. We got a table quickly around 6pm but the place started filling up as the night went on. I've gone to Spuntino's numerous times in the past two years. Great place with friendly staff and a varied menu. Portions are HUGE; you honestly could get most appetizers as main courses. The main criticism I have is that a lot of the food is SLATHERED in sauces. It's quite overwhelming and I need to remove 2/3rds. Except for the pasta. Pasta is sauced nicely! Sputino's is located right on 25 A in the quaint hamlet of St. james. One of only two St James roads this is on the busier road. Its a bigger Pizza / Italiam restaurant and had a good number pf people enjoying wine, calamari and lunch in the dining area. We grabbed a vegetable slice loaded with Vegs and flavor. Also used some red Vegs in lieu of tomato sauce. They have a good variety of pizza slices, rolls and also a good looking calzone to stay or go. Would also stop again for a pleasant dining location to enjoy sitting and staying a while with wine etc. Casual but nice here. Friendly welcoming people. read more

Had lunch at 2:30 today with 5 other ladies. (Seniors) Some had appetizers from the dinner menu and 3 had a regular meal- which wound up from the dinner menu. All the food was excellent. Finally got to check out Spuntinos for dinner with my family. Went on a Sunday and it wasn't too busy. Service and food were both great! We started off with the Arancini with was great! I thought it was going to be served like a rice ball but was surprised to find it served in a large baking dish. It was delicious and definitely can serve a large amount of people. We were able to take more than half of it home! I had the Chicken Milanese and my husband had the Chicken Scarpariello. Very large portions and again, able to take more than half home with us! Stopped by here after seeing it on the side of the highway home. We were starving and stopped in for some pizza. We were sat immediately as there were only about 2-3 tables or people. They let us bring our dog in which was odd but nice, they also brought him some water. We started with the compliment garlic bread-soso yummy. Got a Caesar salad which was loaded with cheese, good but a little too much for my liking. We also got 2 small pizzas for the table, I would recommend this over one larger one. We got a classic margherita and (I cant remember the name, but it had sausage and peppers). Both were so good. Delicious! Love their grandma pizza, fresh basil and delicious seasoned tomatoes on top, super flavorful. Their regular pizza is great but after having the grandma pizza, the regular tastes bland. I love Spuntino! And this St. Janes location is no different. We came here after perusing a few open houses in the area as house hunting makes us hungry! Our waiter Joe was so nice and so friendly. We gobbled up the focaccia from the bread basket in minutes and he kindly brought us a fresh batch straight from the oven. After all, carbs are the way to my heart. The menu here is the same from our usual Dix Hills locale and it's hard for me to stray from my favorite, the penne melanzane. I usually order it with rigatoni but it was just as good with the penne. Our little dude loved the tortellini brood soup, hubs had the broccoli rabe and grilled chicken panini and MIL had the lasagne. All around, everyone loved their meal and the warm ambiance of Spuntino's. We are happy to know that if we end up moving east that one of our favorite restaurants won't be too far away. read more
