This was awful. Nothing at all worth even the one star I'm forced to bestow upon these clowns. Upon being seated, we waited ten minutes for any server to acknowledge our existence in the restaurant. We finally were greeted and placed drink orders and ordered an appetizer. The drinks arrived nearly a half hour later and which came out incorrect. By this point, neighboring tables which arrived after us had already received their food. But no sign of the queso. We placed our food order, and settled in for another extended delay. Finally the queso arrived, skinned over and cool. Over an hour and a quarter later, and after asking a manager no less than three times, our food arrived. There was no silverware with which to eat, and when provided, we were thrilled to discover the food was nearly ice cold. At least the company was good, but it would've been just as good eating gas station sushi. At least we would've been fed, then. I've honestly had better food and service on an airplane. read more

I FOUND A FINGERNAIL IN MY FOOD! where do i even start? i guess with the fact that it took about 10 minutes to even get greeted. no chips or salsa. no drinks. by the time our server got to us we were ready to order which they seemed annoyed about?? next thing to go wrong, we ordered a queso comp and got a regular which we were fine with letting go but then it was COLD. we made a joke about our "sizzling" fajitas coming out without the "sizzle" and GUESS WHAT?? they were NOT sizzling. they were warm at the most! my partner reassured me that it was fine. so i let that go too. next to come was THE FINGERNAIL IN MY BEANS! absolutely disgusting! i ran to puke the food in my mouth OUT! i asked for the manager who then had the nerve to say "i mean i cant say that it's not.." while sounding skeptical! sir, that is a fingernail! that SCRATCHED my mouth! i'm still gagging. says he'll "take care of it" which he never does. he actually never comes back to our table so we get the check and they end up charging us for a queso comp which we did not receive as well as extra beans and a surcharge for beans?? i tell our waiter and they say they will fix it. so we ended up just paying the regular price for our bill and left with a sorry half ass apology. to top it all off as we're leaving the table next to us gets their fajitas and they're SIZZLING. haha! From sa wanted a good Mexican restaurant with homemade tortillas. Locals said casa Garcia was AMAZING! Sat at the bar service took forever girl with the BLUE hair continued to pass us by. I can't blame the girl with the short red hair. She was busy with the tables. Although she was nice as can be but couldn't really attend to us bcuz she was so busy with the table but did her best! Girl with the blue hair looked like she hated her job and her vibe was such a negative Nancy. Everything we asked from her was a bother. One lady sat next to me again the Blue hair girl ignored her. I had to get their attention for her to get service! Food: food was NOT good I ordered crispy tacos, I was better offer going to Taco Bell. They were horrible. Rice was old and pasty. Went here last night. It was packed and we had to wait 20 minutes, no big deal. The service was fine although she seemed very rushed. Again, no big deal. Casa Garcia's gets 2 stars because the food SUCKED. SO MUCH. I know what Tex-Mex is and this is 0% Mexican and 0% Texan, if that even makes sense. This is the kind of "Mexican" food I would expect to eat if I went to Wisconsin. The queso was so bland, we thought adding salsa would be a good idea but it wasn't. And yeah yeah I know, queso is totally an American thing but at least throw some tomatoes or onions in there, shit! I've been eating velveeta all my life! The enchilada looked so Americanized it brought a tear to my eye. Straight up chedda cheese (SICK) and what tasted like Hormel chili sauce. The taco was so-so, nothing special. Guacamole was boring. Chicken mole was no good, fajitas were also nothing special. Rice and beans - also part of the bland band. I wouldn't be as annoyed if they didn't charge somewhat high prices for shitty food. This is based on my personal experience with the staff, food, and restaurant on Sunday 1:35pm. It just opened so I am not going to rate the wait times. We have a Casa Garcia's in Kyle!!! That's where the excitement ends. We have been to the location on Manchaca and William Cannon for years and the one on South Lamar. We love it especially the mariachis on Friday. We were excited to hear one would be open in Kyle soon. We did not go for the opening because obviously it was going to be busy so we decided to wait on dining in and opted for take out. I read a lot of reviews and some are not very fair when it comes to wait times. It Just Opened they are going to be busy. Other reviews caught my attention was about the staff and hostess. I believe that is the issue. I called to place my pick up order and Gabriela answered the phone. It was like talking to a teeny bopper teenage girl. I could just imagine her on the other end of the phone filing her nails, popping bubbles on chewing gum and twirling her hair. She was like "Casa Garcia's" Not "Hello Casa Garcia's in Kyle. How can I help you?" I told her I wanted to place an order for pick up and asked if there is an extra charge. She said no. Then started to giggle, she obviously had her attention on something other the me, the customer. She then said "hold on" and placed me on hold. Not " can you hold please?", just hold on. I waited for 2 minutes then she came back on the line..."Hal Lo" (a ghetto type hello), Not "Thank you for holding may I take your order?" I said "yes I am still here." she asked "what can I get you?" I told her "6 Carne Guisada tacos and a Numero Dos plate." She asked " Arroz" I said "no, a Numero Dos", she asked "lunch number 2?" I said "no A Numero Dos", she said "Oh a Casa G's Numero Dos, it is not the same thing". Per their menu online there is only one Numero Dos plate. Whatever. I placed my order she did not even give me a total. She said it will be 30 minutes. No thank you or nothing. I had to thank her So I get there and the hostess does not even smile at me when I walk in the door! She said ' yes?" I am thinking in my head maybe this is Gabriela but she had no name tag, it sounds like her. I told her I was there to pick up an order for Chris. She says "Oh I think she went to go get your food" she meaning another girl in a yellow shirt that walked into the kitchen. So I wait the yellow shirt girl comes out with food but not mine. The hostess never talked to me again the girl in the yellow shirt finally asked had I been helped I said no. I am here to pick up an order for Chris. My food was right there!!! All the hostess had to do was turn around and read the ticket. I paid for my food. the girl in the yellow thanked me and said have a good day but never did smile. The one person I heard and saw smile the whole time while I waited for my food was a female bartender. She told a couple that was leaving " thank you for coming in and please come back and see us. have a great day!' with a big beautiful smile. Overall I am not impressed at all. The restaurant it self was very nice! So was the Inside and had a full bar! People that were leaving seemed to be happy and i asked one couple, "what did you think?' They said nice inside and food was good and staff was good. The only complaint... "The hostess seemed like she did not want to be there." The couple said. I went here a 3 weeks ago and ordered a burrito with no beans. when it came out it had beans in it. I told the waitress and she said oh I know you said that but I thought you ment no beans on the side. I told her no and asked her to fix it. She said ok and walked away. About 10 minutes later when the food wasn't ready to order I asked can I make a to go order and just have the plate with the to-go order. She said yes. So I ordered and got the food. Assuming that everything was there. When I got home the burrito plate wasn't there. Also one of the plates for the to-go order wasn't there. I called the restaurant and told them. When I talked to the manager he apologized and said he would send a gift card in the mail for a refund. I still haven't received that card. It's been almost 4 weeks. Okay, so I have to say I do not agree with the other first two reviews...yes, they just opened so you have to considerate that any new restaurant, especially in their opening night, is going to have some difficulties. However, you can tell Casa Garcias #5 is working on making service better. Saturday, was their second night opened and my husband and I decided to give it a try despite the horrible two reviews on their opening night... First of all we called before we even decided to go there in order to see how long the wait was to be seated...they offered to put our name down even though there was only three people ahead of us when we called. I thought that was very considerate of them. When we got there, I have to say we only waited about five minutes if that to be seated and that was around 7:30pm. The restaurant was full both inside and outside. Yet, we still got our booth as requested. We thought the restaurant looked really nice...decorations were simple yet nice and we didn't feel like we were just in Kyle. Ok, so we decided to start with DRINKS... Their regular margarita was very tasty and fresh. I rarely like regular margaritas but when my husband gave me a try it was really good! Strong and refreshing! What else would you ask for in a freaking humid, hot, evening? I got their 1800 Mex martini and it was nice and smooth. Their olives are good...just like I like them. Not jalapeño stuffed but still tasty. We also started with their FAJITA NACHOS: OMG . their beef fajita is soooo tender and they give you a great portion of beef fajita! What else would you ask for? Since the nachos were a good size we decided to try their soups. Hubby got the MENUDO soup, which I personally do not like. He thought it was amazing. As matter of fact it was the best menudo he have had in a looooong time! It looked really red. I got the TORTILLA soup, and it was sooo flavorful. The broth was nice and tasty. Chicken was perfectly juicy and it was white meat! What else could I ask for??? Both, their corn and flour tortillas are MADE ON SITE! Something I forgot to mention...our waiter, Isaul, was great! Very attentive and even brought us a sample of their awesome Barbacoa and diablo sauce when we told him we would really like to try their Barbacoa to see if it would be worth getting a good amount to take home some other time. read more

This is some of the worst Mexican fare around, I am sorry to say. It is a nice looking restaurant in a great high volume shopping center location, but that won't fix the food problem that is the elephant in the room. I grew up in Texas, have had more than my share of Tex Mex and traveled extensively throughout Mexico. I'm willing to be reasonable and modify my expectations when it comes to Tex Mex, but Casa Garcia's doesn't give me anything to work with. Friends in the area sometimes like to meet there because the location is convenient. But this last time will be my last time. The food has never been great, but now it isn't even passable fare. Gnarly little hard bits of nearly flavorless colored rice accompany the meals. How hard is it to make even passable Mexican rice? The gristly strips of meat with a ghastly red powder sprinkled on but not cooked in was no match for any tacos al pastor I've ever encountered. Whatever the grainy yellow stuff served as queso might be, I'm sure it never knew a cow. Every other place around has better chips. The iced tea tasted a little sour. The waitress, in probably her first few minutes in customer service work, was clueless, only taking the order with some difficulty for someone else to serve and then later depositing the tab after being nowhere in sight for 25 minutes. So what's going on? Clearly there is little staff training and I'm not sure how it is possible to have a cook with so little talent for Mexican food right here in Texas. The ingredients used reflect no pretention of quality. The one bright spot has always been the bar, where service is informed, friendly and attentive. Just don't eat there. read more

First off, I love Casa Garcia's. They have some of the best Tex-Mex in the Austin area. We've been going for years. They are reasonably priced - comparable to most other restaurants. Mariachi band on the weekend, and let me tell y'all, they are GOOD!! Salsa is always good - sometimes actually a little too spicy, but I don't mind that. :o) They have a pretty extensive list of enchiladas. Personally, I love a good Suiza Enchilada plate. Their rice is also some of the best...EVER. Their margs start at $5 for the regular house marg, and go up from there. They have a few special drinks, and while they're good, they are upwards of $8 and for that price, I'd rather have the large bowl margarita. I have no complaints. They only thing I want to say is that of course it gets packed on the weekends, so if you're going to complain about the wait, then do us all a favor and take you name off the list and LEAVE. They tell you the expected wait time at the time of your arrival. If it's 7:30 on a cold, rainy Friday night, then yes, you can expect a longer than normal wait. My husband and I were excited to try this place since there are only a handful of restaurant choices in Kyle. Maybe it's because they just opened but our experience was awful. The service was terrible - the guy who waited on us at the bar seemed totally overwhelmed and like he didn't want to be there. My husband asked him three times for water, and finally had to whistle to get his attention the fourth time. (and it STILL took a couple minutes more to get the water!) The food was totally bland - I had the tacos al pastor and was really disappointed. My husband had the relleno which was better but still kindof meh. The two stars are for the good salsa and a little mercy since it's a brand new restaurant. On the same note, the service is sub par and very consistent. The bartender (woman with shoulder length black hair) pays her bills and talks on the phone louder than the TV's. I've had previous Margarita issues here, but the beer is cold and the food has always been good; though some items not what expected. The interior is appealing with traditional styles with a fresh uncluttered feel. The vegetables and meats we had were all very fresh and not "over-cooked". We were able to order custom combos and make reasonable substitutions. The wait staff could be more knowledgeable about the menu and serving in general. We have not dined here, but we have ordered to go and of the three times we ordered something was always missing. I have to admit we gave them 3 chances and the third time no more. Of all the 3 times we ordered, we ordered the Caldo de Res, and Menudo. Oh don't get me wrong,, their food is delicious. A lot better than the other Mexican restaraunts here in Kyle, that's why we gave them 3 chances. Forgetting the tortillas the first time was ok, that's understandable. Forgetting the condiments for the menudo, ok something is wrong. Forgetting the flan was very unforgiving. Yes we did talk to the manager, John, who was constantly apologizing, and his statement was when we called, "I should have taken your order" Excuse me but your the manager, you shouldn't be taking orders, that's what the person at the counter should be doing. You should be making sure EVERYTHING IS GOING FINE, making sure people get their food in a sufficient amount of time. Oh did I say they were slow too! So my wife called in the order when I was in San Marcos and when I got there, I had to wait another 30 mins, if not more. Shoot! She could have called it in when I was in San Antonio and I still would have had to wait. Not sure why this place is always so busy. Except maybe the fact that it's in Kyle. However Taco Cabana might be a better bet! I've been here a couple times before and don't remember it being that bad but it was. I tried the Taco Salad which is a staple at most Mexican joints. It was about half the size as any taco salad I've ever seen. They up charged me $2 for fajita chicken which was not fajita chicken. It was baked and bland. Even sadder were the dressings, they don't even make an in house ranch dressing. Their "cilantro lime" dressing which you would assume to be a vinaigrette was a gross honey mustard tasting concoction. I don't even know how they accomplished that. The first time I went here It was a great experience, then the past two times after that its just been awful. Last time our waiter took forever to get us drinks an even come up to our table. I asked for lemons for my water twice, never got em. My husband asked for a certain plate but asked to cook the bacon in WITH the meat but never happened. He had to ask again an instead of them taking his plate back, they brought him out two pieces of bacon on the side after half way done with our meal. Never saw the waiter again through out whole meal. Last night we got seated right away, which was great. Brought us chips an salsa an bam!, a hair in our salsa... GREAT. Whatever, not the end of the world. We ask our waiter for another one, she immediately brings us out a fresh cup. Then we order. I don't eat Rice so what I do is always order double beans, I usually ask for two different types of beans because most restaurants serve different types an the lady explains that she has to charge me if I get refried an Charro beans because charro cost extra, EVEN tho Im just trying to sub out the rice. My husband an I both kinda look ar her like seriously?! She immediately gets defensive an says "I dont make the rules, Im just letting you know" so I just say dont worry about it. I look around to see if theres a manager on duty, of course there is but he's up front talking to three ladies the entire time. Literally the entire time he's up front with whom looks like another lady who might be a manager but they are up front the whole time. Some of it might be that it's new and the kinks are getting worked out - like having to wait a while when there are open tables because there don't seem to be enough staff to cover them all. That's frustrating when you're hungry and the minutes stretch on and on. However, the staff has been really, really nice and attentive once we've been seated. The margaritas are strong, the food has come out piping hot for everyone every time we've been, and it's been good. No, it's not excellent or innovative or anything even approaching authentic. It's old school 50's style TexMex, which should have some other name because it's neither Tex nor Mex, but its own animal. It's a tasty animal, though. We eat here a lot, and there are two things I can say that are very consistent about Casa Garcia's: their service is always friendly and spot on; their food is very reliable. My favorites are their chips and salsa and their breakfast, which you can get at any time of day. Chips are a good thick consistency and the salsa is also thick with a rich tomato base. I especially love their migas. I also order black beans to go with it rather than refried, and I am so happy with that! The potatoes that come with it, on the other hand, need a little help. I don't think they are homemade, or real or something. I wish they were. Family gets nachos, chicken enchiladas and fajitas, and are always happy with them. They are consistently good, served the same way, with all the sides and are huge servings. This is our go to place for Fajitas for 2, they are always made fresh. The tortillas are made fresh daily and always delish. I love the fact that you can get breakfast any time of day. The only reason I didn't give it a full 5 stars is because it is a little pricey and when we order the fajitas the size of the sides are small, I love their rice and my girlfriend loves their beans but they never give us enough of either. So we started coming here about 3 yrs ago, now not only are the sides smaller but the fajitas for 2 are barely enough, and the price is higher. Its pretty sad when the fixings are larger than the main dish. read more

"We" have been four times: 1st: opening night & we were turned away. They were closing early because they couldn't handle it and didn't wan anyone to "have a bad experience". Well, at least they are concerned. 2nd: 20 minute wait; couldn't get anyone to take my money at the bar when we were called to the table. Chicken dishes all around: stuffed avocado, tortilla soup, enchiladas verdes. None of it very good--bruised avocado, generally dry chicken, not enough green sauce and not very good either (stolen from Woody Allen). Chips and salsa, tortillas, and frozen margaritas all very good. 3rd: All the good stuff as before, pork in red sauce: OK; I've had better. Beef enchiladas with chili con carne: good, hard to mess up. 4th: I didn't go but I heard the fish tacos were excellent. Overall, fair to good food at somewhat high prices. The bar is a nice upgrade over the Palms or the Vegas, but the food and prices are in the other places' favor. Update Aug 31 2012. We've been many times, so it must not be too bad. The margaritas are still good and I am always happy with the nachos. They did manage to mess up the beef enchiladas with chili con carne. The sauce was so thin you could see the individual particles of chili. You could also see that there was no carne at all. The manager agreed. I might have taken him up on an offered replacement but the service had been incredibly slow and I didn't want to wait another half hour. Here is the thing... I LOVE their food, but their service is just so so. There are two male servers that we have had that were great, but otherwise no good. I also would like to say that I am very disappointed in their take out. They ALWAYS forget at least one item. The only time they didn't forget something, they gave me beef enchiladas when i ordered cheese and I don't eat beef. They also now charge for chips and salsa with takeout.They said it was because of the cost, but I would think they would lose more business that way. I was told that I could get a "complimentary" size but the person who took my order did not tell me about this (even though I mentioned being upset about paying for it) and still charged me. Went Saturday evening - long wait with open tables, very, very slow service. Finally gave up on receiving a drink that was ordered. Mediocre food made with velveeta-ish cheese. The chicken enchiladas with tomatillo sauce are good, guac OK, but meh on the rest. Most of the plates were overpriced by a couple of bucks. They do have a full bar-one star for that. I really like this place. I've DEFINITELY had worse Mexican food than this, so I'm not sure what everyone is complaining about. They have a large menu, although it is a little pricier than what I think it should be but it's still not bad. At least they keep the place clean (from what can be seen), so it could be worse. I've ordered a double-whiskey twice, and have been disappointed both times with the amount I receive and the amount they charge. Wow. Another Mexican Restaurant in Kyle. Do you not think we have way too many to begin with? We walked in an were immediately greeted by the host. We asked for a to go order. We wanted something simple. We asked for Nachos. I asked if they were individual chips or a pile of chips. I was told it was a pile of chips and would easily feed 2 people. For almost $10 for Nachos, I would certainly hope so. This place was new and was hopping with people, even at 9pm at night. We waited around for a few minutes while our order was being prepared. A few minutes later we were handed our food. We get home and we were very disappointed. There were probably 6 large chips in the box. The meat had not flavor at all. I am not sure what kind of cheese they are using but it tastes nothing like cheddar cheese. They gave us a box with onions, jalapenos sour cream and guacamole. It was enough for one person at the most. It was not worth the almost $10 I paid for the nachos. Su Taco down the road has nachos that 2 people can eat for $5.99. I had planned to get something else a la carte but everything on the menu was $9+. If I am going to spend that much on Mexican food, I will go someplace where I know I can get great mexican food, not Casa Garcias. Glad to see another restaurant on Kyle open. Okay food. I was expecting better. Had the beef fajitas and added shrimp. Beef had no flavor, did not taste "marinated" at all. Salt improved the flavor considerably. Shrimp the same. Next time I am looking for a good dinner, will have to look elsewhere. Service was okay. Nothing really negative, nor outstanding. Mexican martini was good on strength, but only decent on mix and forgot the olives. Happy Hour: Mon-Fri from 4pm to 7pm. We managed to slip in by 7, so we hurriedly orders some margaritas before perusing the menu. If you've managed to read one of my other reviews, you would know that I am a snob about my alcoholic beverages. A well crafted drink should be just like a well crafted meal - flavorful, balanced, visually appealing... The 512 margarita (though lacking in the visual appearance department)...might possibly be the best margarita I have ever consumed. My boyfriend is normally the margarita order-er. I tend towards the more interesting cocktails. However, 9 dollars for a large frozen margarita? Sure. Why not. AND IT WAS WORTH IT. A rather unassuming drink, it came out with the average salted rim accompanied by a slice of lime. Now this was a frozen margarita, which i don't normally do frozen drinks, either. They tend to be too sweet or over powering in any one type of flavor. But the server convinced us to do it so we did. After all. 9 dollars? Sure! We stirred the lime in and took a sip....Wow! Perfect level of citrus acidity, sweetness, and tequila 512 packing a hearty but leveled punch throughout the entire time. Complete with a little lick of salt, and it was margarita heaven. I would literally add nothing to that margarita. Not to mention that it was smoothly blended, soft consistency. Not like i was finding chunks ice. GOOD JOB. I honestly would've given this place a 5 for their, but their food was not that impressive.Very basic, and rather inexpensive, but definitely not 5 star quality. They are generous with their portions. My suggestion: go there during happy hour. Munch on some chips and queso with some homies and order that 512 margarita. You won't be disappointed. read more

I've now eaten here three times. First time I had beef enchiladas. I thought they were pretty dang good. The second time I went for breakfast and got the beef fajita omelet which I thought was great, but my wife had to send her chicken fajita plate back because, although the plate was hot, the chicken was cold. The waitress was slow and forgot a few things. She was very nice, though. This morning we picked up breakfast tacos. The bacon/egg/cheese and sausage/egg/cheese tacos I had were fine...I mean, it's hard to make something that simple either very bad or very good. In all I will likely go back, but they do have some improvements to make. read more
