They were able to accommodate our Vegan needs!!! We got the avocado burrito, sub tofu for eggs($1) salsa for pork verde avocado for meat and potatoes on the side soooo good!! Also they did not charge us extra for substitution on anything else. Also great drinks! Everyone was really helpful and super nice! read more

You can't beat the food, service, or brews at Carvers. Every time we're in town the kids beg to come here for the food & the staff is friendly & responsive. BEST ALL AROUND! read more

Did I even experience the same place as the other reviewers? Being steered to this place for breakfast by a local's recommendation as well as Yelpers, I can't stop thinking about this place, and this is what I'm thinking: "How in hell do they stay in business other than to cater to beer drinkers." The service was oddly abundant and slow: too many servers milling around, talking with one another, forgetting to bring what you had asked them, not filling coffee cups, and claiming they were new on the job. The food came out in dribs and drabs; all in various states of coldness. And, this place was not cheap, although I routinely pay a lot for a good breakfast. The food itself was not tasty, and in some instances, not as the menu stated. I ordered an omelet that was supposed to have "caramelized onions and roasted red peppers". Sounded good, huh? Well, raw onions and lightly sauteed peppers didn't really fit the bill. My husband's "special pancake" was tough, dry and flavorless. Of course, my meal was stone cold, while the others dishes at the table were scorching. Oh, and the coffee was horrible... There is nothing about this place that would make me want to revisit...unless they start from scratch...or I wanted to drink beer at 9:00 AM. read more

This place was incredibly depressing. Every staff member looked like they were about ready to beat themselves to death with serving trays rather than work another second. Maybe because it was kind of late (10:30ish?) at night? Stopped in here for snack/dessert type food and it was just ok. If memory serves, bread pudding, cheesecake, chocolate cake and stuffed mushrooms were ordered. I don't remember being particularly excited about anything but my visit was about 5 months ago. Should really get a bit more timely with these reviews! read more

Could not wait to try their beers........oh wait beer! The double IPA or the "Big Bike" was so awesome we didn't even try the others. Great little location in down town Durango it's bike, dog and beer drinker friendly! We were lucky enough to get a table outside and met so many friendly Durango-ians and their dogs. It was great weather the staff were friendly and attentive and even the manager came out to check if everything was okay. Gotta love that. We only came for the beer(s) but read the menu and we will be back. The menu looked awesome and the variety was intriguing. So...stay tuned. I will be back. read more

Great beer. Great service. Nice space. Tasty food. We would go here all the time if we lived in Durango.

I got the beer braised beef tips and they were honestly one of the best things I've ever had! Went here with my boyfriend and a friend of his, and we all agreed that this place was awesome! They split the reuben and said it was fantastic! My boyfriend's buddy also got the soup of the day, which was Cream of Mushroom soup and it was delicious! We can all also recommend the Oktoberfest beer and the Irish stout! All in all, this place is a definite go again!! read more

My sister and I needed some quick comfort food and a beer after having our tent blown away in the crazy high winds. We had been camping in the desert at Chaco Culture National Park in New Mexico, but after the tent incident, we were ready to get back to Colorado. Don't worry, my sister caught the tent after some amazing sprinting. She also had done research online to find that Carver Brewing was one of the best vegetarian options in Durango. Lucky for us the internet was right and we found ourselves looking at a menu with several easily veganized options. I had the Navajo Taco: an amazing vegetarian chili in a baked flat bread. It was hearty, beany, delicious and just what I needed. My sister had the Oriental Noodle Salad with tofu. I was a little jealous of her choice but luckily she let me try it. It was incredible as well. Who knew a salad could be so inspired? Who knew I would fall in love with lotus root in Durango, Colorado. Last but not least, our beers were delicious as well! I had the Colorado Trail Nut Brown Ale, and she had the Cascade Canyon Cask IPA. Our waitress was so nice and helpful with all of our vegan questions! read more

Rude people. Rude waitstaff. Rude hostess. Rude everything. Horrible place. I've been here every winter for years in a row and I'm horribly disappointed!!! Update*** I tried to send an email to the company's contact and was sent a mailer demon. Doesn't do any good to complain. read more

Full disclosure: part of the negativity behind my review is probably based on the high expectations I had for this place after seeing the Yelp reviews... and the subsequent dashing of those expectations on the rocky shores of reality. Bluntly: their food reminds of fancy Applebee's and my brother's roommate brews better beer. Overall, decent (though too expensive) for a not-so-special family night out, but poor compared to other breweries. When I hear "brewery" or "brewpub," I think of an establishment that defines itself by its brewing capabilities first and foremost, and offers food as a supplement for those interesting in making a meal out of the experience. Often, as the beer is the main draw, the chefs are free to experiment with interesting culinary whimsy (just as often, to great effect). For Carver Brewing Co., I can't tell whether the beer or the food is supposed be the supplement... in a bad way. It's like they had the wherewithal to make really good beer or really good food, but not both, but they decided to try anyway. When I first sat down and saw their menu, my heart sank a bit. Whereas at other brewpubs I have spent a long time looking at the menu, having a hard time deciding what tempting item to order, here I also spent a long time looking at the menu--trying to see if I would like *anything*. I settled on a buffalo burger--it didn't look that bad, and the fact that it was bison was a cute twist. They didn't have it. I ended up splitting a reuben and another sandwich with my brother. The food honestly wasn't BAD, but it was probably only a 3/5. At that point I was hoping that the beer was where they could really shine, but sadly I was disappointed. I ordered the raspberry berliner weisse, which came out fluorescent red, tart (which is ok for a berliner weisse), and very sweet. It tasted like they might have added some fruit-flavored chemicals or something--like vinegary raspberry soda. The other two beers I tried did not impress me either. They tasted like what a macrobrewery would do to try to get in on the "craft brewing" phenomenon--a bland simulacrum of good beer. Anyway, long story short: expensive, just-above-decent food, and macro-style craft beer. read more

The best dining experience that I had in Durango. Their Colorado Trail Nut Brown Ale was a perfect brown ale. Nice roasted nut flavor, very smooth. The Raspberry Wheat Ale looks exactly like pink lemonade, (complete with the lemon wedge on the glass!), but tastes almost like a lambic. I had their delicious Chicken Stew for dinner: thick in all the right ways, with chunks of potato and carrot. Very very good, and served with a freshly tossed, crisp Caesar salad. Even the wheat roll I got with dinner was delicious. My husband went with the classic burger and fries, except the fries were delicious spiced potato wedges. Service was fast, the restaurant was well decorated, and our meal was well-priced. read more

I don't usually eat breakfast. But we were in town and thought we'd give this place a try. Wow!...I was quite surprised at how good my breakfast was...I ordered the "Mexican Scramble." My friend ordered the Durango omelete and said his too was pretty tasty. My other friend was not impressed with her pancakes (I think they had coconut and bananas). But for me, I'd come back here again. They also serve lunch and dinner....and there is a full bar. The place was fairly full, so there must be something good that make people return. Guess I'll have to come back and try lunch and or dinner some time. read more

Stopped in for a night of drinking and it was full up front. There was a music festival going on in town, and no seating. I walked out to the beer patio and it was empty. We got our group of 4 and found a table. No sooner than we had sat down and got ready to order a round, a waiter came up and told us we couldn't seat ourselves. We were ushered out and not offered seating. The entire beer patio had 6 people in it and 2 tables that needed bussing, but we were ushered out. I would not recommend this place. I know I will never be back. read more

I am impressed with Carver's! Our meal began with a beer flight and a Carver's Bulldog. The root beer is made in house, and the mixed drink was delicious. We ordered stuffed mushrooms as our appetizer. They were gone in about five seconds flat! My boyfriend had a burger which he absolutely raved about, I had a pasta dish with an egg on it. Strange combo, but it worked. Service here was great. This place is going to be my go-to for all future visits to Durango. We even brought home 2 growlers with their raspberry ale. :) Cheers! read more

From the outside it looks like a small and dark pub. We decided to brave it anyway because they had a beer on tap that we just couldn't resist. They took us in and asked if we wanted to sit on the patio. Patio? What patio? Sure, we innocently said. They snaked us through the typical pub part, then through this other garden bar part, and finally ended up in this wonderful patio with live music and a totally chill vibe. We perused the menu and decide on some chocolate cake for dessert and the seasonal brew never experienced before: an Oatmeal Stout IPA. The beer and chocolate cake hit the spot and our night in Durango seemed complete at that moment. read more

This place was a pleasant surprise in Durango. The atmosphere is spot on with a cozy and open environment. Being gluten free, it was also nice to learn that all their beers are gluten reduced! They had a fun selection of beers that all tasted amazing. I also liked the food selection from vegan options for me to hamburgers for my partner. The only reason I gave four stars instead of five is I thought that the food could have been spiced a little better, but overall I was happy with this place. We even returned a second night for another round of beers. :) read more

Great service , very poor food. Wish they offered a real lite beer. Fries we cool and not worth eating.

I've only had breakfast at Carver's, so this review speaks to that. But, if the rest of their menu and daily/nightly service is as good, then I'll be back for sure! Breakfast service is busy busy, so come early if you can. We had about a 20+ minute wait on a Sunday a couple of weeks ago. However, as soon as we saw a couple of seats open up at the bar, we grabbed them. The bartender that waited on us was super friendly and lovely. He was extremely attentive -- hands down some of the best service I've had at a restaurant. We ordered a couple of deluxe bloody mary's, which were delicious. They come with a little beer chaser (which the bartender refilled), bacon (!) and other accoutrements. I had the IPA for the chaser, and my friend at the Oktoberfest. Both were standard and pretty good. My friend and I shared the coconut-crusted French toast and an item on their daily special -- a savory pancake enchilada filled with eggs, sausage, cheese and covered in a green chile sauce. (Hatch green chile season means they are everywhere!!) Both dishes were quite good, and the proportions were huge! We were hungry, so we ate most of them. But we were certainly stuffed. My one small critique would be that the pancake enchilada should have come with more of the green chile sauce and perhaps a bit more sausage. Because of the size, it really needed a bit more of both. The size of the restaurant is kind of misleading. There is actually two dining spaces/bars. We sat at the one front of the restaurant. But in the back, past the bathrooms, is another space. It seemed pretty empty, so I don't know if you can just go back there and seat yourself or that is also part of the waiting list. I imagine Carver's probably stays busy, as it's pretty centrally located downtown. I'd be interested to go back and have lunch there or evening drinks. read more

Recent Happy Hour visit was tasty on multiple dimensions - both the food and the drink. We sampled a few different brews and we were very happy with them all. We tried the Oriental Noodle Salad - it was yummy, but would've been better with the seared Ahi or sauteed tofu. The beef chili was tasty and spicy. My son enjoyed the steak fries with cheddar cheese (who wouldn't?!?). BTW, there is no "Happy Hour" pricing at Happy Hour... read more

Have the cob salad. It's different with a lot of dressing but really tasty if you like it like that! Great waiter. The beer is super.

We were looking for dog friendly dining on our Durango trip and a few websites suggested this place. We went by on a Tuesday early evening and found a table out front. Just a couple high tops on the sidewalk with a nice view of the main avenue for people watching. My bf had the beef tips which were awesome! I got the special, apparently Tuesday's are a gluten free option. I am not GF but good to know. It was chili chicken on brown rice with roasted vegetables and it was seriously awesome! Our server Tyler was great! He didn't hover but was there when we needed him. And how can you not like the friendly guy bringing you beer? He also brought our pooch a bowl of water which we really appreciated! Delicious beers! Delicious peach pie for dessert! Overall a great experience and we will definitely return next time we're in CO! read more

Because Carver Brewing Co. is both a brewery and a restaurant there are two parts to this review. The brewery part: The beer is great. I'm not sure how many beers they brew, but every one of them that I've had has been great. The Lover's Chocolate Stout particularly stands out. The bartender was super nice and friendly and gave me plenty of samples. The restaurant: The food is good, but not great. The service is good. The prices are a little on the high side, but not terrible. Even though the food isn't five star worty I'm still giving it five stars because the employees are friendly and the beer is amazing. They also have a great selection of Scotch. read more

Carver Brewing Co. - Four Corners Steak Sandwich on a Pretzel Roll - New American Near Me - Durango, Colorado

In Durango for the weekend and Carver Brewing was our first stop! It did not disappoint to say the least! We started with the pretzels, which were excellent. Headed again for breakfast to cure the prior evening's debauchery at same said locale. The Southwest fare was excellently executed with a local chorizo in my Huevo's Rancheros, I would certainly rate that dish 4.5 (it would have been a perfect 5, but the green chile was not quite 5 star worthy). As a lover of craft brews, I regularly stop in to the big 3 whenever visiting Durango, this time their Class 3 IPA brought a very big smile to my face, making me very hoppy. :) The root beer is certainly top notch and don't miss the upgrade on the bloody at breakfast (the ultimate includes a slice of bacon in it). read more

The Raspberry Wheat was amazing... So much so that I'm giving this place 3 stars... Because beyond that, the bar section of the brewery kinda sucked. The bartender had some friends in, which means that he ignored everyone else the rest of the time & we had to basically fight for service. read more

Went tonight with six relatives. This is the eighth time at Carver's. every time we visit Durango we go to Carver's. it has changed over the years. Gonna start with the negative and then hit the positives: Audrey our waitress had zero personality and only an ok server. I had a bacon cheeseburger and fries. The bacon was raw and the fries cold. I ate a half a fry and peeled off the bacon. My niece's mashed potatoes were cold. My burger itself was delicious. Everyone else's food was very good. The chicken wings and artichoke dip was very good. I had a bite of my wife's chicken soup, yummy. I am giving this four stars based on past experiences and everyone else's food. Will return the next time we are in town for a visit. Happy Holidays read more

Carver Brewing Co. - Best darn Bloody Mary I've ever had! - New American Near Me - Durango, Colorado

My review is simply based on the Pork Chop. My husband's red trout is good. My children's chicken tenders are good, too. The New Style censor salad is decent, too. Therefore, with all of the food comparing, the pork chop is a big disappointment. The pork is just like root, tight, hard to chew, and no flavor. I forced myself, but couldn't even finish two bites. read more

Dinner was excellent. I had the Mahi-mahi which was cooked properly and the dish was seasoned expertly. The service was good and price reasonable. The menu has indications for vegetarian and gluten-free and offers many dishes in those categories. Breakfast was a different story. We prefer more traditional fare and it was a little too trendy for our family. My daughter refused to eat her pancakes because they were bland (unsweetened). The french toast was a winner. Coffee is served with low-fat milk without notice and I had to specifically request half and half after ruining my first cup. There was insufficient wait staff for the number of tables. The egg dishes were tasty and well-prepared, but the offering didn't have the variety we were looking for. read more

We were directed here first for breakfast and let me say it was some of the tastiest french toast I've ever had. For six of us breakfast was under $40. Not bad. We also had dinner here and it was reasonable and tasty. Their beer selection is okay but they have a wide variety of their own brews which are pretty good. Lover's Chocolate Stout and Oak Wood were excellent. They also have wifi if you are looking for a place to connect. Atmosphere was certainly kid friendly and we'll be back for sure. read more

I've been here several occasions, and when I decide to eat here, it is always a disappointment. The menu is pretty tiny, the beer ok just ok, but the thing that bothers me THE MOST is the TERRIBLE SERVICE. I mean, the last time I was there, it took about 10 minutes for 2 glasses of water, another 15 minutes for the server to come get our order, but that was because she had to deal with the fact that the people next to us had been waiting for their check for a long time, because the people next to them had been waiting for their food for a long time. It is always like that. The hostess isn't doing anything really, you hardly see your server, someone else drops off food and drinks... but somehow everything takes too damn long. That, coupled with a tiny menu? Well, that just means the only time I go here is when forced... or when I am not hungry. read more

I won't go back. I was in town for work and took my team for dinner. There were 7 of us and I made a reservation. During dinner the waiter came and asked us to move to the patio. A couple of things about this bothered me. It was obvious that this was business and that I was paying and yet the waiter asked one of the gentleman with my group. Had he asked me I would have said no. I mean we were still eating. I come to Durango every month and take my team members out and now Carver's is off the list. read more

tucked in hockey jerseys, waiters in skate shoes, folks still wearing their snowboard boots. high BMIs . little dogs with little dog backpacks on chewing on purses. baggy jeans. sausage fest. lonely non-sequitur t-shirt sales displays, hats as decoration. pleasant indirect lighting. surprisingly delicious food. you'd have to be a really intense beer snob to think they lacked selection--my sampler had no fewer than 7 home-brewed varieties, from light lager to hopsy IPAs and amber ales to sweet barleywines and cherry dark wheat beer. minus two stars for CARPET in a freaking BAR. plus one star for it didn't smell as bad as it should have with CARPET; minus one more star for the tucked-in hockey jersey. Service was friendly and quick but a little stressed out under all the pressure--seemed like they were more of the chilllllll outttttttt type. go look at the tanks of beer in the back; that's also where you'll find all the CARPET. read more

Road trip restaurant stop #4. We were all pretty disappointed with this place. The service was not good and neither was the food. After a long day of driving, my family and I were very much looking forward to a delectable meal before hitting the hay. We were seated in the back room, which was a sports bar with high tables and chairs - I found this strange since there was a half full dining room up front where we could have sat. Our server was sassy and downright rude, making it very clear that she was not happy about having to serve one more table before her shift was over. Expressed wishes not to go over the beer selections with us. While we were waiting for her to come back to take our orders, we could see and hear her talking about drinking tequila with another server...wtf? I had the sagamity (veggie bean chili) and salmon tostada and neither were very good. The chili was a couple of steps worse than what I could make for myself at home - it was flavorless and boring - just a bowl of canned beans and corn. The salmon tostada was even worse. The menu advertised a "fire roasted tomato, green chile cilantro sauce" which was a major reason for ordering it, but it was more like an overly sweet ratatouille and totally ruined the already so-so dish. My whole family tasted it and we were all in disbelief and thought that the sauce had to be a mistake. When we asked our sassy server if that was the right sauce, she said, in a very patronizing voice, "Yep, that's the salmon tostada," as if we were complete idiots or something. After that, I vowed I would Yelp them and let the world know 1) don't eat here (drink, maybe, the beer was decent, but don't expect good service) and 2) if you have no other choice but to eat here, then be very cautious when ordering and don't be surprised if the food you're served is not what was described and also doesn't taste good. As if to affirm everything we were feeling about our dining experience, not a single one of the numerous staff members greeted us on our way out the door. A simple "Thanks!" or "Goodnight" from them on the way out would have left me with a better taste in my mouth and I may have forgiven some of their missteps. Wish I could have those calories back. read more

Carver Brewing Co. - NASTY SALMON TOSTADA (with imposter sauce) - New American Near Me - Durango, Colorado

Little restaurant in downtown Durango....breakfast order included french toast and sausage, it was palatable, I ate the whole thing. Never understand why syrup doesn't arrive hot and delicious...ho hum, at least the pour bottle was full. My companion ordered a tinga chicken omelette with green chili of course and I'm afraid it did not agree with her. Unfortunately it also arrived lukewarm. Likely should have stuck to the more traditional breakfast fare. Bloody Mary's look good, mimosas looked delish, but we could not partake due to our 3 hour drive home to Montrose. Service was friendly and speedy...our server happened to misplace our check, which truly was not a problem for us, but she felt compelled to comp the coffee and juice. That was a nice surprise. Great location, beautiful day. Will try it again if I'm ever in downtown Durango again. read more
