Asked an employee to let me know what was taking over an hour for something that should have taken 30 minutes. Wow! What a friendly and professional operation. We arrived at 10:30 in the morning on a Saturday. Was immediately greeted by friendly Carmax employee. He entered my name in the system and ask me to have a seat and someone would be with me shortly. Chris arrived to ask me how he could help? Told him I was there to sell my vehicle. He was polite, professional and detailed. Chris told us it would be about 45 minutes to assess our vehicle. No problem. Within 30 minutes our phone rang and Chris told us our offer was ready. CarMax honored the estimate given through the internet. Wow! We promptly accepted the offer and Chris handed over the paperwork for us to take to the cashier. We dropped everything off with the cashier, Julian who told us it would be about an hour to get the paperwork done. No problem. My husband and I went to have lunch and received a phone call from CarMax that they were ready to give us our check. When we arrived back, Katy greeted us at the cashier window. She walked us through the paperwork and we were out the door within fifteen minutes. What a great experience! Let me start first by saying my entire experience with CarMax has been exceptional. I will start first with Eddie who helped me snag an amazing car in Cali even though I live in NJ. Yes, I had to pay the fee to get it to King of Prussia, Pa, but it was worth it. When I first found this car on CarMax online, I had placed the car on hold. But ... I let the car go and moved on to another car at another dealer. After careful consideration, the red Lexus convertible at CarMax (instead of the white one at another dealer), kept calling to me. It was in Cali, never saw snow but the drawback was, it could take up to a month to get. But ... with low mileage, perfect color combo, and it was a car I heavily researched, I decided to go for it. Eddie was honest and kept me informed of everything from beginning to end. He did the walk around with me, checked the car out and answered a hundred questions I had. PUNCTUALITY I went in this morning. I got there at 10:50am because the hours online say they open at 11am. They opened right on time. Five stars for punctuality. SERVICE I was the first one there and Jeff came and helped me. He was really great and didn't try to salesman me as I told him I was there to get a quote for my car and I needed to be out in 30 min. There are pros and cons to this place... I'll start with the pros... 1) They have a lot of car options. You can look at pretty much every model at the same time. 2) The sales people aren't pushy. It's almost like they could care less if they sell you a car. 3) While you aren't going to get a great deal on a car here, you won't get hosed on one either. Cons... 1) If you have good credit, find outside funding for a loan. There rates were 7-9% for us and the local credit union was 2%. 2) If you want an extended warranty, again, cheaper with outside companies. 3) If you want Gap insurance, again, cheaper with outside companies. And now the most disappointing thing to me and what even prompted this review....the service department. Supposably there is a 30 day warranty on the car. So in our case, the AC doesn't cool as fast it a normal car does and the weather seal fell off by the roof rack. It's a car with 8k miles on it. Everything should pretty much work, right? We get a call from someone in service - "AC takes a while but it does cool down eventually so it meets our guidelines". "And the weather stripping isn't really necessary and it's really expensive to repair so we aren't going to do anything about that either. We don't worry about weather stripping" Hmmm...I thought they had a full 30 day guarantee. I guess it only covers what they deem as important. Took this car to the dealership today and guess what - they saw both problems and agreed to fix both problems at no cost to us. They deemed it important. Thank you Chris at Infinity for taking care of business. Next time I'll just buy directly from your dealership and avoid the hassles of the stereotypical used car dealership. read more

This place is horrible. You make an appointment and they don't have anyone available. The buying process took 5 hours and that was with me making obvious suggestions about how they could speed up the process (i.e. have the old car appraised while we are working on the paperwork for the new one). The salesperson, Robert, lied through his teeth and it was clear he was just trying to upset along the way. There were a few things that needed to be fixed on the new car and they said they would easily take care of it. Nobody ever called. We had to call them numerous times before anyone responded. I have nothing but good things to say about Carmax! Came here 3 weeks ago in search for a new to me car. Luiz met us at the front door and explained how the lot was set up, and let us walk around by ourselves to browse. He advised he will be back in a few minutes to check if there were any cars we wanted to either sit in or go on a test drive. No pressure/No hassles to buy anything! After viewing a few, we came across a BMW that i just fell in love with (Red Leather) Took it out on a test drive and we both knew this was the one! We went inside to began the process, and was out the door in about an hour. I have to say this was the easiest & most pleasant car buying experience i have ever had! About a week later, i had my old car towed to Carmax, and the buying process was just as easy! We did go on a busy Saturday, so had to wait a bit longer in line.. None the less, completely hassle free and they offered me fair value for my car with transmission issues. Shortly after, i started to notice some irregularities with the paint on my BMW. Specifically, the car was repainted but the white color on the passenger side doors were slightly different. I did not notice this when purchasing, i blame the red leather again! I brought it into the Carmax service department, and they offered to have the car repainted and color matched at no cost to me! They even gave me a loaner vehicle which i did not know was available! Shutout to Rick in the service department- he has excellent customer service skills! Kept me updated on the status of my car, and kept me happy! We arrived right on time for the appointment and we were seen right away by a sales person. We were looking to sell his car ASAP and buy a new one at a different dealership. -The store was busy as it was going to take about 40 minutes to get our car appraised, not big deal. Not even 30 minutes went by we got called back by our sales person stating it was done and showed us the value for the car. Completely seamless inspection (took about 10 minutes to inspect the engine, interior, and exterior condition while my car was on), easy appraisal & offer process, AND they took care of all the paperwork right there while they were giving my car a test drive to make sure it was mechanically functional. CarMax is a one-stop shop if you're looking for a good price for a used car that's been fully vetted by professionals. Long story short, my Prius of 11 years ended up needing a new hybrid battery (surprise!), which costs roughly $3000. I had to make the bittersweet decision of putting in the money to keep my beloved car or to get a new car. I chose the latter (for other reasons as well). I want to say the guy who helped us was named Max. He was such a gem! While my car was getting appraised, he walked us out on the lot and actually listened to what I wanted. Honestly, getting a new car wasn't on my mind until a day ago so I had no clue what I was looking for. I also have the hardest time finding cars I'm comfortable driving. There were several options on the lot (a huge reason I love going to CarMax is because of their selection and the fact that they can transfer cars from other locations). CarMax gave me a beyond fair deal on my Prius. After learning what I wold get for it, I went back out on the lot and decided to test drive a car that Max said would probably be a good fit for me. He was so right. Everything from the moment we stepped foot through the door, looking at cars, the appraisal of my car, test drive, finding out more information about the car I was interested in, looking at all of my options from other CarMax locations, and going through financing within a short period of time, was just SO EASY. Had a great experience here selling my 2008 Honda Civic. CarMax purchased it for above the Kelly Blue Book value and I was really pleased, plus it was $1,500 more than the used Honda dealership was willing to pay me for it! The whole process took around 2 hours from start to finish, but they kept us apprised the whole time of approximately how long each step would take. First time visiting this Carmax service location, and was so fortunate to have Rick Stokes as my customer advisor last week and today. Rick is one in a million when it comes to top notch customer service, client relations, and car expertise; and because of him, I would highly recommend this Carmax location to others. When I first visited this location last week, Rick made me feel welcomed, kept me informed each step of the process and explained what they were doing to proactively check to see why my rear view mirror sensor wasn't working properly, explained the next steps, and even walked me to my vehicle on my way out. // Then when the replacement part came in today, Rick called and texted me and fit me into their schedule. He told me they double-checked other similar vehicles to see my mirror should be functioning properly, kept checking to make sure I was comfortable waiting and letting me know how things were going, and then gave me a receipt packet before he walked me back to my vehicle. I can't believe how quickly my rear view mirror was replaced (less than 1 week), and believe Rick's leadership and attention to detail made this possible. Went here yesterday to have my car appraised for sale. They were quick with the inspection of the car and came back to me with an offer in under 15 minutes. The offer was extremely fair and actually over what Kelly Blue book had it listed for. It took another 20-30 mins for them to complete the transfer of title paperwork and drive my car once around the block. I was out the door with my check in less than an hour. First impressions are everything and I can't hesitate tapping 5 stars. From the moment my wife and I walked in the door we were put at ease, made comfortable and educated. Yes, at a used car dealership. However, due to the professionalism and incredible service we received while in the very capable hands of our sales person, Julia Newbern I cannot in good conscience use the term 'dealership' when referring to Car Max of Escondido. Mrs. Newbern is hands down the most technically knowledgeable person in the auto sales business that I have ever... EVER, had the absolute pleasure to work with. And here's the kicker, we didn't leave with a car. Not because there wasn't anything that we were interested in. Not because the experience was bad as I mentioned earlier in this post. We didn't leave with a car because Mrs. Newbern took the time and opportunity to walk us through our current financial situation - complicated, at best - in relation to the vehicle purchasing /financing process and helped us to see that it would be in OUR best interest to wait just a little bit longer for a more appropriate time with regard to our credit and etc. What we did walk away with is knowledge which is infinitely more valuable than any machine...short of a money printing machine.
