    Overall, my experience with CarMax in Escondido was positive. Of course it is a car dealership, afterall, but I have to say my experience with buying my used BMW there was relatively easy. There was none of the hard-sell you find at other dealerships, and I felt I could say no at any time. Of particular note, I'd like to credit Julianna Tate for her help with my paperwork, administrative work and helping me with MaxCare forms. She was efficient and competent, but also friendly and easy to work with. She made the whole process smooth and almost effotless.

    Carolina L was really nice and helped us find a car in our budget that we loved and decided to buy! She is welcoming to all people, LGBT safe, down-to-Earth, funny, and has great customer service skills. When I originally test drove the car we wanted, I heard a weird noise with the gas pedal so I asked her about it, and never once did she make me feel like i was crazy or annoying for feeling worried...she immediately said that if I had a safety concern, she would put an order in to have a mechanic look at it right away. I was relieved over this because most sales people would have brushed me off, but not Carolina. Thank you so much for helping us find a car we love! Next time we need to buy, we will come here again. You should ask for Carolina Lopez when you come, too!

    My sister bought a car from Carmax in Atlanta, so when I found a car on their website I was happy. My sister had an exellent experience and recommended them to me. I got a Mini Cooper Countryman 2018 in the perfect color I was over the moon. A few days (5) after the car started hesitating when taking off. I called Carmax and got the call center. I was transfer to the service dept. After 2 minutes the phone cut off. I called back. I choose the option that tranfered me to service. I got the answering machine. I left a message. I waited 10 minutes and called back. This time a lady answered the phone. I told her what the problem was and she said they were booked til after the 10th. When I told her I wanted to get it checked before the 10 days was up, she said you can always return the car. After that answer I hung up. I am a veteran with sever PTSD, I was getting upset by this time. Having received no help I called again after an hour. After being transfered to the message machine once I finally talked to someone in the business office X6090. I was transfered to service again. This time I was told I could bring it in on October 1st. That was day 10. When I expressed my need to have it fixed before day 10 I was told it wasn't possible. I returned the car that night. No one cared about the sale of this car, me or keeping my business. That was ashame. I was really hoping to keep that car. But all I have a a bitter taste in my mouth from a USED CAR BUSINESS. I should have known.

    I had the EASIEST, most stress free, dare I say enjoyable experience buying a car here! If you take advantage of the options CarMax offers online before you make an appointment to go in, it could literally not be easier to find and get a car. I scoured the website and app for a few weeks until I found the car I wanted, I liked that when you make an account and use their Pre-Qualification tool you can browse for cars in your exact budget. Once I found the car, I called CarMax directly to reserve the car and make an appointment to test drive it. Arturo from the Call Center was SO courteous, patient, and helpful in assisting me. He helped me navigate reserving the car I wanted, we set an appointment to come see the car in person, and Arturo offered to go over the Pre-Qualification in more detail on the same phone call. Because I needed my husband present as we both would be financing the car, Arturo gave me a number to text when we were ready to go over everything all together. I was able to text him when it was a good time, he called us, and within roughly 20 minutes we were Pre-Qualified and had two offers from different lenders. We let him know which one we wanted, and he had everything prepped and ready for our appointment later in the week. IF YOU USE THIS METHOD, AND YOU LIKE THE CAR YOU GO TO TEAT DRIVE, YOU WILL LITERALLY BE IN AND OUT OF THERE IN AN HOUR AND A HALF! We checked in at 10:00 this morning, they were aware of our appointment, and Percy took great care of us. We went over the preliminary information, Percy was fantastic at explaining things clearly and answering our questions, and then we test drove the car. We fell in love with it, and drove it back to the lot for paperwork. Because you need insurance to drive the car off the lot after purchasing, make sure you either have it ready or do what I did and get a price quote a few days before, select an insurance, build an account with them, and then most of their apps or websites will save your info and make it a few clicks away to purchase the day of. I had the insurance set up within five minutes, we put our down payment down, we signed the paperwork, and then they escort you to their own DMV paperwork area. Daneen was so friendly and kind, she explained what we were signing so nicely and clearly. Because I'm neurodivergent, I can't emphasize enough how appreciated it was to have everyone here achieve that perfect balance of explaining things to me clearly and efficiently, while not rushing through it or fast talking me. We completed our DMV paperwork within five minutes, and finally Percy walked us out to our new car, handed us our keys, and we were off! I am not joking when I say we were literally in at 10:00 and out before 12:30. Compared to my last experience I had at a dealership (where it was an 8 hour day spent there, I was fast talked and upsold on the biggest lemon that would bring me years of grief), this was the EASIEST experience ever. I've had longer and more difficult grocery shopping trips, I don't think I could get out of Costco in under two hours let alone buy a car. What I appreciated the most is that Percy took the time to make sure we understood everything, he ensured we knew all the things that our CareMax and warranties took care of, and finally- Percy told us that this wasn't the end of our relationship, this was the start of it. I cannot tell you how nice it was to hear that they are here to help me if I ever need them for maintenance or repairs or anything at all. I truly had a wonderful experience here, and I can't recommend this location enough. Just remember to do the work beforehand and set up as much as you can over the phone, and you will have the EASIEST time!

She was helping our daughter purchase a car, and throughout the process the numbers kept changing. Every time we spoke with her, more costs were added and the price was constantly adjusted. After finally agreeing on a deal, signing day became even worse. Adriana told our daughter that she had to purchase the warranty or they would not sell her the car. My husband directly asked if the warranty was mandatory, and Adriana admitted it was not but she won't sell that car without my daughter purchasing it. However, she then said that if we declined the warranty, they would require an additional $4,000 down payment in order to move forward with the sale. That immediately felt dishonest and extremely misleading. It seemed very clear they were hoping we would not carefully read the contract or question the terms. When we confronted Adriana about the contradictions, she repeatedly changed her story and claimed she "didn't remember" saying certain things. What makes this even more disappointing is that my husband and I previously purchased three vehicles from the National City location and never experienced anything like this. We were always treated fairly there. I strongly encourage anyone considering this dealership to read every document carefully, ask questions, and do not allow yourself to be pressured into unnecessary add-ons. Thankfully my husband and I were there with our daughter, otherwise she could have easily been taken advantage of. If you decide to purchase from this company, I would recommend going to the National City location instead.

Not even a few days of owning the car there were electrical issues and the car horn didn't work.... They offered to fix it and the car seemed to be running fine up until a few months later I get a check engine light on and the car goes into complete limp mode. I take it to a few mechanics but still after every service is done the cars still seems to not want to turn on or drive over 20mph. I've only owned this car for a year and haven't been able to drive it from May-November due to how many issues there were and the final decision was getting rid of the car in its condition and getting no money back for it. Previous owners of this car had reported a coolant leak to the engine 3 years ago before I had purchased my car from this place, this information was not disclosed to me during the sale. Eventually this issue had led to complete engine failure in the 2019 Ford Escape. Definitely look out for small details like this before purchasing a car here and check the car fax!

By choice. That's another story. But, I had no credit history, no down payment, and saw an ad on Craigslist. A day later, they had me in a vehicle with a very low down payment (that was flexible) and a very low monthly payment. Paid the loan off in 4 years. I now began my journey for another, better, vehicle. Every dealer from South Bay to Carlsbad said no. Went on Craigslist again and ran into the same dealership. Messaged them at 8pm and they replied within minutes. Next day, they had me approved! Not only for the vehicle I wanted, but with a decent monthly payment. Because of my work schedule, I was not able to get to the dealer until the next day (Friday). That evening, I was driving home in MY new (used) vehicle. On top of all of this, the vehicle I originally wanted was at their other dealership in Orange County. They drove all the way there to bring it down to Escondido for me. I felt bad because when I got there, they let me test drive another same year, make, and model vehicle, but wanted this one instead. I still test drove the one I originally wanted but they had no issues with me changing my decision. I mean, c' mon! That's some customer service right there. I'm telling you. If you've ever been turned away from other dealerships and you feel hopeless, please give this place a try and reach out. I know I sound like a paid advertisement but I'm not and everything I say is true. I've bought from this dealer twice now and each time they were able to get me approved! Thanks Quantum! The same day I bought the vehicle, the check engine light came on. I brought it back to the dealership, was told the issue had been fixed, and the very same light came right back on as soon as I got the car back. I was then told to use the $1800 warranty they sold me to get it repaired. I followed their instructions and took it to a Jeep dealership--then was told by Baldwin, the warranty company to take it to another Jeep dealership instead. I even had to pay nearly $300 just to get my Jeep out of the first dealership so I could move it to the second one. My vehicle has now been sitting at the second dealership for six weeks, and I've been without a car for almost two months. The warranty company is refusing to cover the repair because they say it was a pre-existing issue, and I've been told that the code had cleared before I bought it so it is a pre-existing condition.As a result, the repair is now coming out of my pocket--even though I'm still making payments on a car I can't drive And purchased the warranty. I have also been paying for a rental car while these repairs are supposed to be made. Throughout this entire situation, I feel that Baldwin Auto Sales has offered no meaningful help. Based on my experience, I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere if you're shopping for a used vehicle. This has been extremely stressful, expensive, and disappointing, and I don't want anyone else to go through the same thing.
