I wish I could give you ten stars. Totally worth the 45 minute drive !!! We started off with clams in garlic & wine sauce - I would of drank the broth (it was so good) but I didn't want to be judged. I ordered the shrimp & crab wrap & my husband ordered the seafood fra diavlo - everything was absolutely delicious. The staff was super friendly & so was the owner, they made us feel so welcomed. We will definitely be coming back for more !! read more

I took the drive from Rockland County to Captain Jakes at the suggestion from a coworker. I was craving a nice waterfront seafood dinner but will not eat inside a restaurant yet. I made a reservation for two for outdoor dining. We were greeted by the inside door and brought back to our table, it was along the wall and right next to the door that opens and shuts constantly between inside and out so that took away any nice ambience feelings for me. We could not see the water since we were so far back. At least we were outside though. What seemed to be the manager seated us. There was a scan code taped down to the table which was explained to us how to pull up the menu on our phones. Unfortunately having small screens and somewhat elderly eyes, along with the fact that a lot of the dishes didn't have any prices posted made it difficult for us to decide what to order. We were also given a little piece of paper with a few special on it. Our waitress stopped by and took our drinks order. We also asked for water which we never received. Upon her return with our drinks we placed our food orders. Within 5 minutes our appetizers and bowl of soup all appeared at the same time. Then we waited. And waited. And waited. Not one person came by to offer us another drink or to to ask if there was anything we needed. Our entrees finally came. They have food runners that just place your food and leave. Still not a glass of water. I asked someone who seemed to be walking around supervising for some water. She forgot. Over halfway through our food I had to ask her again. Where was our waitress?? No offer of bread or Parmesan cheese or pepper for our meals. Finally got our water as we were finishing up and then our waitress shows up. I guess she figured she would show her face to get a tip. Would I ever come here again? No way. Extremely overpriced mediocre food. Horrible service. Paid $120 to not get bread or salad or water? And a final thought: they DO NOT sanitize the tables after each use. We witnessed this several times as were had a long wait for our food. The waitress wiped the tables down once over very quickly with a dry cloth. No spray or cleanser. Didn't even touch the seats. Sadly to say I will not be returning. read more

A friend and I decided to come here because Hudson Taco had over an hour wait. They seated us a little bit before 8 p.m so we knew we only had an hour to eat. I will say that our waitress was very night but the service was extremely slow. Not necessarily the food but the time between sitting down and ordering our drinks amd then ordering our meals. She came by took our drink orders but then didnt come back for another 10 minutes to take our food order. We decided to get the calamari and both of us got the fish tacos. I will say that we didnt get our app until 8:30 and then got our dinner at almost 8:45 pm. Food wise, the only complaint I had was the tortillas for the tacos that were a little tough. For whatever reason they used 2 of them but they still tasted good. We also both opted for fries instead of rice and beans. The one thing that confused me was they close at 9pm but were seating people at 8:55 and then asking us after 9 when we finished if we wanted dessert. I assume that because they also have the bar they stay open past 9 but wont seat anyone that comes after. However, we were sitting right near the waitress's station and they were definitely complaining about people coming in so i dont know. We decided not to get dessert, paid the check and left. Overall it wasn't that bad but i would steer clear of the cocktails, they were definitely not that strong and pretty watered down. If you want a strong small cocktail for the same price go to Hudson Taco read more

We have been to this particular restaurant many times and have always had a great time. The staff make you feel right at home. We were there on Memorial day and it was packed all night and all day. I read the review by the person who said they were racially profiled and find it absurd. It was so crowded that day that there were literally no seats anywhere most of the time. There are always people of different backgrounds there as there were that night and day. The staff in this restaurant are always polite and friendly they make you feel like you're having dinner with family. I have never had a more comfortable experience in any restaurant we've been in. read more

From the Host who took my call for reservations, to the servers, it felt like family, awesome. I've eaten here a few times before and am yet to be disappointed. The food was Unbelievably good, and they checked several times to make sure we were ok, just like all my other visits. I can't wait to go back. read more

Tryed for the first time Captain Jack by the waterfront two weeks ago for my anniversary. I was expecting a delicious meal but unfortunately I was extremely disappointed with the meal. My husband and I ordered surf and turf. When the food came out the steak was cold, over done and the lobster was hard and rubbery. Not to mention we hardly saw our waiter, but she did seem to always be having a glass of wine by the bar. Not to mention we payed $180 for a meal that was probably warmed up in the microwave. I will never again visit this restaurant. read more

This place is amazing in every way. As soon as you walk in you you get that " Home Feeling " that you would get when you went home as a kid after playing outside on a cold Winters day. The staff is friendly and attentive. And its hard to believe it could get better, but then the food came out. I got a Lobster dish that was to die for. This place was outstanding. read more

A friend and I met for lunch on a beautiful sunny day (ideal for dining al fresco) so after hearing good things, we decided to try Captain Jakes. As we arrived, the restaurant was just starting to get busy. The servers were friendly and informed and patiently answered our questions- including questions pertaining to a food allergy. To start, I ordered the raw oysters-selections from both the east and west coast. They were super fresh, briny and delicious! For my main course, I ordered the smoked trout which came with nicely dressed spring lettuces. The portions were generous and everything was really yummy and fresh. My friend started with the beet salad followed by the crab cakes-which she really enjoyed as well! The menu had a nice array of dishes from land to sea without being too fussy yet inspired enough for someone who is a bit more adventurous. The bar crowd inside was bustling and seemed to draw a nice group of locals. The specialty drink menu had some really nice options. I could see coming here to take advantage of their raw bar, appetizers, and some cocktails. All in all, this is a great casual spot on the Newburgh waterfront with outdoor seating and a lovely view and great vibes. This is a nice option for those who live in the Hudson Valley or take day trip out of the city. I look forward to coming back very soon! read more

Just had the best dinner ! It was my first dining experience since quarantine. It was perfect. Place followed all rules. Very clean. The service was top notch. The food never disappoints. It's my absolute favorite. read more

The ambiance is an expected nautical theme, but is rounded out with a beautiful view of the Hudson River harbor just outside. At night, twinkling lights from nearby Beacon across the river add to the somehow comfy mystique of the area. Fabulous raw platter consisting of fresh jumbo shrimp, oysters and clams. The waitress graciously brought us two additional oysters when we realized there were 10 instead of the promised 12 from the menu description. Our sea scallop dish came replete with a scrumptious risotto and ultra-green broccoli side. Everything was washed down with a reliable 2009 Vouvray. Our waitress Patti was accommodating and friendly despite having to cater to most of the clientele there tonight. All in all, this is definitely recommended. Ask for Patti! read more

Atmosphere: just sit outside Food: fine; unremarkable Atmosphere: The indoor seating is a bit packed and loud, but we sat outside where it was beautiful, right on the river. Our server and the rest of the staff were friendly, but they seemed understaffed and hurried (although our server was plenty attentive). In the bathroom, the garbage was overflowing with paper towels on the floor. I let one of the staff know, and she said she was glad to know and would get someone on it. Food: The food was... fine. Nothing great, nothing bad. We had the lobster rolls and the cod sandwich. I've had better; I've had worse. The french fries were above average. The prices were fair, especially for the cocktails, which were around $9 each. I wouldn't mind going here again, but the next time around, I'll give the other places a shot. read more

Went to Captain Jakes for Mothers Day. I don't mind paying for a nice dinner but at $29.95 for scallops you would think they would serve a basket of bread for the table! When we asked we were told a slice of bread would come with the Steamed Clams appetizer we order and it was just that a slice of toast! Also for the prices they are charging how about a soup or a salad choice? None. Salad is very reasonable for a restaurant to buy and serve. The scallops were very small and slimy. Will not return anytime soon!!!! read more

Just returned from a lovely lunch overlooking the Hudson River. Service was friendly and attentive. My Caesar salad with shrimp was delicious. Couldn't have been a better choice for our lunch - even the weather accommodated us! read more

Hi I have eaten many meals at Captain Jakes. The restaurants atmosphere is great. I came back after a couple months and the main menu was the same. The menu is stale and needs to be updated. PS the Shrimp and Oyster Poor Boy was Pretty light on the shrimp and oysters. G read more

We can all agree that the views are amazing!! When it came to my selection of ordering a po boy on the advice of my sister who had one before and enjoyed it. She spoke about it the whole time on our way to the restaurant so of course when I got there I ordered a po boy. The hero arrives with four jumbo shrimp inside are you kidding me? Management with summoned and the manager said that inflation caused them to take some of the shrimp out; or it would have been an up charge to $20 if they added more shrimp. Either add more shrimp and give people what they want a Po boy instead of a Poor Boy; or take it off the menu. $40.00 for a Monday afternoon view of Newburgh waterfront from an order of three Poorboys we ordered. read more

I just left your restaurant and my wife got food poisoning from the sea scallops immediately. She's violently throwing up. I ordered a hamburger. A hamburger. How can you get a hamburger wrong? The worst experience I've ever had eating a BURGER. It had a bitter taste to it with a STALE BUN. The fries were horrific. I paid over $100 for a nightmare meal! I'm telling everyone about this. read more

Excellent. I had the lobster roll. Yummy. I love the fact that when you ask for lobster roll you will get lobster. I had previous experience where you get a mix of fake seafood with small pieces of lobster sprinkle on it. With the Captain you get the real thing Lobster baby, I also had the Lobster bisque pretty good. I had the fried caamary. It was ok. I will say average. read more

Love Captain Jake's! The food is always fresh and the staff is super friendly. We frequent here and have never had a bad meal. Highly recommend!!! read more

Expensive food, mediocre quality. I had crab cakes. They were mushy, with the texture and taste of overly worked tuna salad with too little tuna and too much mayo. Wife had lazy man's lobster. Cut up deshelled lobster pieces. It was ok, but was $39. Son had lobster Mac and Cheese. Plenty of cheese, too little lobster. Was about $25. Place was jam packed. Mostly bar patrons. I wouldn't recommend the place or return of my own volition. read more

Went to Captain Jakes on a Tuesday around 7 and they immediately sat us at a table outside with a good view. Both the Swordfish and Lobster Fettuccine were really good. Service seemed pretty good at the beginning but seemed to get slow towards the end when we wanted to pay. When we could finally leave it looked as if the staff was having their dinner and that was probably the reason behind the slow service at the end of the night. We will probably go here again and would recommend to a friend. read more

Great water front view, nice restaurant. Went on a tuesday evening for our anniversary wasnt crowded at all but it took over 30 mins for appetizers, and an hour for out meal! we spent about 2 hrs at the restaurant and the food was great but we prob wont ever go again because the wait was wayyy to long. read more

I found this place unexpectedly while exploring Newburgh. I walked in and the bartender Jessica was amazing. She is a great friendly bartender. I had the sesame salmon and it was on point and delicious. The crowd was casual locals who enjoyed quick draw.... Who can complain about that?! Just got in from El Paso TX and the front desk at the hotel said to go and eat at a restaurant called blue point. We decided to look around and thank God we did, we found Captain Jake's. Its outstanding all around front the service to the food. Highly recommend this place. My counterparts had some sea food and they had nothing g but great thing to say about it. I had the Brisket Philly Cheese Steak sandwich and it's great. read more

At first I was a little hesitant as pricing was higher than I expected. I am a foodie and I hate going out for dinner where the food is not comparable to it's prices. I ordered the salmon and was not disappointed! In fact, I then craved the salmon for the longest time and when a birthday celebration came up, I recommended Captain Jake's and was thrilled that everyone agreed! I got my salmon... superb! The service is spectacular, Nicole was on top of everything, kept the drinks flowing, our orders were exactly as expected, timing was perfect and she was absolutely delightful, checking in here and there to make sure everything went smoothly and perfect. We ended up staying at the bar until closing because we were so comfortable and having such a good time. This place deserves 5 stars, food was amazing, service was amazing, atmosphere was fantastic, it was clean, well organized and a great place to gather with friends and family. Reservations recommended if you plan on going on the weekend. read more

Captain Jake's - Seafood Near Me - Newburgh, New York

Definitely our go to restaurant for seafood. Everyone is so nice and inviting. My favorite meal is the lobster rolls. The lobster bisque is amazing. Some of my favorites are the shrimp and oyster Po boy sandwich, the steamed clams and buffalo shrimp. You must have a reservation as they are always packed. Ambience is very nice: read more

I've never had to leave a restaurant because they couldn't prepare my meal in a reasonable amount of time. After placing an order at 1:13pm, and not receiving my food at 2:30pm, I asked for the appetizers bill and packed up my family and left. In the time we sat waiting for our food multiple families ordered, ate and left. If a dish is going to take unusually long to prepare (I ordered the lazy man's lobster) maybe flag it for the customer? Particularly if you see she has young children? Even then, anything that takes longer than 45min should not be on the menu. But an hour and 20?! It still wasn't ready. Which is laughable because the restaurant has a sign that says "90 minute maximum stay" or something similar. The cod sandwich was good and the kids enjoyed their grilled cheese but that was it. Clams oreganata were too garlicky and the lobster bisque was inedible. Waterfront view was nice but I regret making this restaurant the first stop for our family's first trip to Hudson valley. read more

Ok , everyone in America , and I'm talking to the people that especially living in the orange county area , captain jakes, is one of the most wonderful places you want to take your family and friends to eat , the food is great the waitress and waiter's are respectful, the food is absolutely amazing , no other like this, in up state n.y. captain jakes should be in NYC or long island , but we all should be thankful they brought a little class and elegance to the city of newburgh , to call these people racist because you don't know how to pick up the phone and make a reservation is crazy , my name is darryl beamon, born and raised here, and I glad I don't have to take my wife and family out of town to have an enjoyable time . read more

Sitting at Captain Jakes now; great view. That's it. Food mediocre, service terrible.

Overall had a nice quiet, casual yet upscale dinner on the deck. Food was delicious and perfect portion sizes. Service was comfortable, not too fast but not too slow. We didn't feel rushed to eat and our water glasses were always filled. read more

.If you do decide to go to this restaurant eat inside! - They were pretty busy so we sat outside, don't ever sit outside. The table was nasty and sticky it was clearly not cleaned. They have a major ant problem next to the railing closest to the river on the back porch. The crab was flavorful but once I received my food a bunch of flies showed up. read more

My wife and I had lunch here today , sitting out on a warm, breezy day. Everything was excellent. I had the pan seared sea scallops and she had the cod sandwich. The scallops were fresh, large and cooked to perfection in a brown butter sauce. The potato croquet was also excellent. Her cod was fresh tasting and came with French fries and coleslaw - also excellent. For dessert, we split the walnut brownie a la mode- this too was excellent. What a great place to celebrate our birthdays! read more

I didn't even eat here. As soon as I was about to step in I passed the kitchen (which is open on the side of the entrance) and saw someone from the kitchen drop a piece of meat they were cutting on the floor. They literally picked it up and put it back in the bowl. Disgusting. I turned right back around and didn't even go in. read more

Been to this place two separate occasions and was informed that there was over a 2 hour wait for outdoor seating. Went next door to the Italian pizza place (which was GREAT by the way) and was able to sit outside and clearly see MULTIPLE tables open at Captain Jakes the entire duration our meal. We had two kids with us so maybe that's why they didn't want to seat us. If that's the case, this listing should definitely not be named "kid friendly" nor should they have a kids section on their menu. I'd much rather give my business to a more honest establishment. read more
