Waitress continually came over to ask us if we needed anything. So much so that it becoming annoying and very rude. She also cleared our drinks when we were not through with them. Zero common sense. First Thing First: All employees were wearing masks, there were multiple hand sanitizing stations available, and everything looked clean. There wasn't an overwhelming feeling of being at a restaurant during a pandemic, but you did feel comfortable and safe eating here. Drinks: It was happy hour, which in month 5 of COVID-19, I desperately needed. This margarita hit the spot. It was refreshing and classic. It wasn't too weak, it wasn't too strong. Food: I got the ahi tuna tacos, which was absolutely fan-flipping-tastic. Honestly, it was so fresh and the flavors were all there. We also started with the Queso and Guac, which we good. The chips they serve almost taste like Fritos. Now, the main attraction. The Mango Tres Leches. It was to die for. You literally must try it. Service: We were promptly greeted, sat, and served. The waitresses taking care of us were extremely friendly and kind. They even recommended the Mango Tres Leches, and I was so happy they did. I probably would of never experienced Cantina Laredo if it wasn't for me receiving a free entrée coupon from my job. My first visit was to the one on Royal a week ago but they were closed due to a power outage. That lead me to this location a few days later. I arrived on a Saturday evening about 6pm and pleasantly surprised that it wasn't packed. They have a large dining area that was only about 20 percent full and it was just me and 2 other people at the bar the whole hour or so I was there. I was greeted in a timely manner by the bartender but surprised that she didn't come with chips. I received that AFTER I ordered. Different. I did receive 2 things of salsa and warm chips. The salsa was a Lil too spicy for me but I asked for a "fruity" drink and the bartender recommend the passion fruit margarita. I was debating between the pineapple one but she said it would be more tart. I loved the passion fruit margarita and was really leaning towards another one but I had to drive home. The entrée I chose was the pull pork tacos. They were 3 tacos a lot similar to street tacos. I would say just fancier with the micro greens and feta cheese (or maybe it was goat cheese) crumbles on top. I enjoyed it. The meat was extremely flavorful and tender. It comes with rice and beans. I doubled up on the rice since I'm not a fan of beans. The bar is nothing extraordinary but they do have a interesting way they display their limes and lemons together in a bowl which I thought was cool. The bartender was a sweet young lady with braces. We have been coming here for a while. I'm always amazed that it is not more busy. It's on a quiet side street with outside seating. The margaritas are well balanced with fresh ingredients. Not to sweet, not too tart. The salsa is full of flavor. A great addition to any meal. The food is what I describe as fresh-tasting, they pay attention to the details. What a waste of time this was. This is supposed to be a really nice authentic Mexican restaurant, but they served my draft beer in a small plastic cup that they claimed was 16 oz. Check the bottom of the cup and wow, it says 10 oz. I ordered the Carne' Asada Tacos and the presentation was very nice (this made it two stars), but only 2 small carne' strips per taco left me wondering "Where's the beef?!?!" The staff is friendly and professional, and they are following guidelines regarding masks, sanitizing, and social distancing. The food was fresh and delicious per usual. It's well located near the Southeast corner of Belt Line Road and Midway Road. It is also south of the Addison Airport and north Dallas by 10 miles. Their flowers out front were well kept, the place was sparkly clean. We arrived just after noon, and I loved that it was not jammed pack with folks. We were seated immediately, and were given menu's. These are new menu's that we were given. The new items were pointed out to us by our waiter. We started out with some fresh chips and two different kinds of hot sauce, one served warm and the other cool. The hot sauces were both pretty darn good, I would have voted for the warm sauce. The chips were the freshest I have ever seen. My friend got the "Juarez", it is and cheese enchilada with chili con carne and ground sirloin taco. Now my friend goes there quite a bit, and I believed he ordered it without onion and maybe not tomatoes. Any how, it did not faze the waiter one bit! My friend thought his plate was great. I ordered off of the lunch menu, the new stacked pollo tinga enchiladas. It consists of poblano chicken tinga, a sunny side egg, roasted red bell pepper, avocado, corn tortilla, sour cream, and fantastic tomatillo salsa. My plate was served with a Mexican rice and black beans. I asked for a half order, and once again, no problem with the waiter. The service was top notch, we were even greeted by the manager on duty. The staff kept busy and everything seemed well. Our food came out fast, but not were you could tell they had been sitting in the window. I'm from California, new to North Dallas, and looking for some good Mexican food. Decided to try this place. I was very disappointed. It didn't taste like Mexican food. First, I ordered a Cadillac Margarita. They didn't know what that was. So, I said just make a margarita and add a floater of Grand mariner. It might have been the worst Margarita I have ever had. I never leave a drink unfinished, but I made an exception here. I ordered chicken tacos with beans and rice, and they tasted awful. I was actually gagging they were so bad. The rice was super dry, so didn't eat. I left hungry and a little less in my bank account. On the plus side, the service was great. The chips, salsa, and guacamole were outstanding. But, unfortunately, I won't be back. I am told that this is how Dallas Mexican food is. So, maybe by Dallas standards it's good. But, California has some of the best Mexican food in the world. That's where the bar starts for me. Doesn't matter where I am. If you're going to serve Mexican food, make it right. read more

It makes me sad to see substandard reviews for Cantina Laredo on here because I think it's freakin' amazing. It's my favorite Mexican restaurants in Dallas and one of my favorite chains to come out of Dallas. I never miss a chance to pop in and order the fish of the day or the enchilada veracruz. One gloriously served enchilada with a side of sauteed veggies and almond slivers - just enough food, not enough to send you to food coma. They'll make the guacamole fresh to order and the salsa is ace. Today I was there with a 5 year old and the kids nachos looked amazing - 5 big chips, smothered with cheese and a large chunk of grilled steak. He was in heaven. If you are looking for some Mexican with character - not bland basic DFW tex mex - stop in here. If you are expecting gigantic portions of enchiladas smothered in red sauce and bad cheese, go somewhere else. read more

I've reviewed this place twice previously, one 3 star, one 4 star. Today is a reallllll stretch for 3 stars. Something was just totally out of sync today and I am confident it WAS NOT me. So, knowing the potential for this establishment, have generously given it 3 stars. I had a certificate through the Addison Perks Program for August for a table side guacamole....note, key word here is "table side". Greeted by a friendly server who I have had before, glad to see me, and said he'd be right back to take my drink order. Moments later, a nice young lady, Jenny, bringing chips and salsa, approached my table and asked for my drink order. Selected the Cabo Wabo Margarita, their version of top shelf which she recommended. And, it was pretty good. I liked it but have faves which I like more (Tupy's, Ojeda's, Blue Goose) at more reasonable prices of $7-9, rather than this one @ $12.50. No problem, it was really okay. Rate 3 stars. The chips were good, just needed salt, One salsa was warm, one room temperature and was my favorite. I asked Jenny to describe the differences between the two. Rate 3 stars She - "one is warm, one is cold". Me - (Uh, duh) I mean the flavors. She - they're the same, just one warm and one cold. Me - politely and sweetly (that's just my nature, having been raised by my Southern Mom in beautiful East Texas!), I think the flavors are different. She - hmmmm, let me check with Chef and I'll let you know. Get back to you on this. Me - (Okey dokey, let's give that a try.) Thank you, I'd appreciate that. She - would you like to start with the "table side guacamole". Me - yes, can't wait. She picks up the red bowl with two large avocados (which are on every table) and walks back to the kitchen. Then, returns 5 or 10 minutes later with the prepared guacamole. (BTW, I do have my marg to sip on during this slight wait) Uh, what happened to "table side" wherein the diner specifies exactly what ingredients and what portion they want in this special appetizer? Serving was enormous, but....way too much lime juice, it was sooo tart. The jalapenos were in large chunks, not minced, as were the onions. No salt at all. Probably some of the worst guac I have ever had, so glad it was complimentary. Rate 1 star. On to food. I ordered the Enchilada Camarones with (obviously) shrimp, spinach, roasted peppers, & onions in a corn tortilla with a Poblano cream sauce. Not bad at all, pretty good. It was very filling and rich and I enjoyed the harmony of the flavors. But, per the menu description it was to be served on top of "sauteed vegetables" and rice. However, the "veges" were slivers (tiny, tiny, tiny) of red onions, red cabbage and poblano peppers. Not what I expected. Thought it would have been some squash, zucchini, onions. Nope, not my idea of "sauteed veges" at all. Rate 3 stars And now, it gets really fun. At the end of my meal, I tell Jenny I'd like to finish my marg at the bar and that I'd like to take my leftovers home. She - (quizzically) do you want me to box them up for you? Me - that would be so nice, thank you. I move to the bar and just relish in the quiet, staring out of the window, daydreaming and sipping. My oh my, what a wonderful world (sans Louis Armstrong) Sometime I just love dining solo. Jenny walks by and I ask her for my check. No prob, get that right away. Later, see Jenny. Me - do you have my check? She - yes, it's on your table. Do you want me to bring it to you in the bar? Me - Well, that would be very nice. Thank you. She - brings check. I give cr cd. She - brings final tab. Me - I inquire about my take home bag. She - Oh, it's on your table. Do you want me to bring it to you in the bar? Me - Thank you. (What more can I possibly say by now?) LOVE the atmosphere, it's so comfy, casual, relaxing, and really, all the staff are sooo friendly and welcoming. Rate 4 stars Do you think Jenny might be new to the restaurant service industry? She was really nice. Ya know, all in all, it was kinda humorous, not a really bad experience, I just had to work at it. Yep, I will go back. (And BTW, after two inquiries, Jenny never got back to me with the salsa descriptions from the Chef. Love this location, staff is always friendly and on top of your orders and needs. Friendly but not hovering and annoying. Thursday is Ladies Night so their casa Rita's are half price, can't beat it! Food it always good, wish they hadn't gotten rid of their crab cakes, but other than that I never have a complaint coming here! Their chili con queso is to die for, amazing home made tortillas, the simple table salsa and chips are yum, I've never had anything I didn't like here! Just went to Cantina Laredo last night--and I've got to say, I was NOT excited about it after reading all these reviews. Perhaps my expectations were low as a result, but I was pleasantly surprised. As others have noted, the interior was low-key and not overdone. But I can dig on simplicity. The menu reflects the interior: perhaps a bit bland, but satisfying--and you've got to remember this is traditional Mexican; not Tex-Mex, which is what we're all really used to and have come to expect. Let's just say I ate my entire serving of spinach enchiladas (sour cream sauce?? yes, please). The waitstaff was incredibly friendly. I was really impressed when they served my Negro Modelo with a frosty chilled glass. And the 3-piece mariachi band was just the icing on the tres leches (which I will be back for next time)! All in all, I probably prefer Tex-Mex. But when I tire of the same old thing, you'll be able to find me on this place's patio. read more

Brought out two salsas with the free chips- mild and a little stronger. Definetely more of a Tex-Mex place than straight Mexican. I had the Fajitas Tres- chicken, beef and shrimp wrapped in bacon. How could that ever be wrong?? My only complaint was that the shrimp had their tails on it. Seems a silly choice when the idea is to put it in a fajita. All meals came with rice and beans that were average on a separate plate. The separate plate makes for a really large presentation, we were running out of room on the table. I was here for Cinco de Mayo with a few friends and it was delicious! Great food and service! I had the chicken fajita omelet, which comes with a complimentary mimosa. I would highly recommend it! I will be returning in the near future. We arrived at 11:30 (not busy at all) and we were seated outside, which we had a reservation for. Cons - Wildly overpriced booze, restaurant lacks an identity, odd salsa, freakin' mariachis First things last - if you're going to open a Mexican restaurant in Dallas, you have to have swagger, and establish a brand. Cantina Laredo doesn't appear to offer anything particularly unique. On purpose, anyway. My date and I were seated by Rambo (as verified by his employee name tag), and we waited several minutes for a server. Once he arrived, he rattled off a list of specials that sounded anything but. I went with a house margarita. I would have preferred a Patron-based concoction, but I thought it was a little too early in our burgeoning relationship to ask my date to co-sign on a loan for a couple of Perfect Patron Margaritas. ...just a little pricey for mixed drinks, considering how many I can put down. We opted for the fresh guacamole, and split a botanas platter consisting of the usual appetizer staples as well as steak/veggie skewers. What really set these off was the chimichurri sauce drizzle on the skewers. It added that tangy zip that was missing from the rest of the experience. The guac appetizer was essential as the salsa was a bit unorthodox. It was a warm blend of unidentifiable veggies that lacked substance or spice. Some people have an irrational fear of clowns. Me? I'm freaked out by mariachis. As my date and I ate and nervously joked about the experience, the house band inched closer and closer to my personal space, playing a loosely translated version of a Brian Adams song. I was saved from a full-blown panic attack when birthday singing from a few tables away caught the attention of the wandering trio. Overall, the restaurant was pleasant.
